Hi,

BMC mapping recommendations are the following:

CI

Class

Product Categorization Tier 1

Product Categorization Tier 2

Product Categorization Tier 3

Other attributes to set

CI Type in BMC Remedy Asset Management

Cell phone

BMC.CORE:BMC_ComputerSystem

Hardware

Telecommunication

Cell phone

System Computer System

Mobile user device

BMC.CORE:BMC_ComputerSystem

Hardware

Personal computer

PDA

PrimaryCapability = Mobile User Device

System Computer System

Personal digital assistant (PDA)

BMC.CORE:BMC_ComputerSystem

Hardware

Processing unit

System Computer System

You can rename/re-use existing attributes for the information or create
additional attributes - which is recommended as opposed to creating
additional classes.

Thank you Tommy and Sandra.

Sandra, so the federated data is stored in another system? Today, we store
all mobile phone info in a home grown application. We are trying to do away
with that app and move it to Remedy CMDB.

I think I may leverage the Computer System form and add the needed fields.

Thanks,

Marcelo

We use the computer system class to store the device, adding Tier 2
Telecommunication and federated data to store other information like phone
number (original changed), PIN, SIM, etc. instead of adding fields.

Thanks!

Looking to start tracking mobile phones in Remedy CMDB. I've looked at the
CMDB data model but am unsure where mobile phones should be tracked. Ideally
we would need a field to capture the phone number. To those of you who are
tracking mobile phones, where are you doing it?

Thanks,

Marcelo

Re: CMDB - mobile phones - where?

2013-10-17 Thread Hennigan, Sandra
Our federated data is a custom form in Remedy.

Workflow adds a wireless record when a CI is added and the wireless record is
updated as the CI is modified. When the CI is related to a user, the assignee
is pushed to the wireless record; assignee is removed when the CI is un-related.

This allows for lots of data pertaining to the wireless item to be added, keeps
you from adding new fields to the OOB forms and keeps non-CMDB data out of the
CMDB. The wireless record is opened from a link on the CI record.

Thank you,

And you can use a BES export to populate, update, reconcile and validate your

There is no class for telecom assets so I created one.
Of course you can always argue that mobile devices in general are really
Computer Systems now. They all have an OS, memory, chipset, extended memory
capability (except Apple and that's because they hate you wanting to store
stuff outside of their reach).
