Equivalent of SET-RO-COLOR for Disabled Fields..

2013-09-13 Thread Joe D'Souza
Sometimes I wish there was an equivalent of the SET-RO-COLOR for disabled
fields as on forms with white background its harder to distinguish between
Disabled Fields and Read/Write Fields.

Has anyone implemented any sort of clever workaround for this in the past?
The best I have come with is putting a gray color on the field label in the
past..

Are you running this process from an active link? Methinks you need the
@@: prefix, but it's hard to say. Is that command even available in
ARS 5.x?

Re: SET-RO-COLOR and System fields

2008-03-02 Thread Joe D'Souza
BTW just so you know as a workaround I did try setting these fields using
AL's again to Read Only and then the background thingy works but setting
them defaulted at the form level to Read Only makes them Read Write in the
Search Mode when the form is opened.

From what I remember in the previous version this workaround was not
required..

The 4 default fields on my form whose Entry Mode is Sytem viz. Request ID,
Create Date, Last Modified by and Modified Date have their display property
set as Read Only but the action SET-RO-COLOR fails to set their background
color..

I am pretty sure in version 6.3 where on a couple of custom apps I had
used SET-RO-COLOR successfully on all types of fields as long as their
display property was set to Read Only..

Has anyone else noticed this on V 7.1???

  Cheers

SET-RO-COLOR like option in 7.1 for disabled, required, optional fields..

2008-02-21 Thread Joe DeSouza
I know that SET-RO-COLOR was supposed for a few versions now...

But there wasn't a similar option for changing the color for other type of
fields like data fields like disabled fields, required fields or optional
fields... Has that changed in 7.1 by any chance? I didn't find anything in the
docs so far..

It was of course worth asking...because Ro-Color isn't documented...so I
didn't se any reason why they would document the other one...:)...if it

Re: SET-RO-COLOR

2006-09-13 Thread Greg Parish
Just adding to this thread a little after the fact.

Another method to keep people from setting focus into read-only fields,
especially after you've changed the color is to place a box around them
with the Background Mode (attributes tab) set to transparent. Make sure
the box is set to the front (Layout, Bring to Front).

If you don't want to display an extra box, use the etched display
attribute and make it the same size as the field, placed directly on top.
You can barely tell it's there if placed correctly.

The users can see the fields, but not able to click into them.

Greg,

Yep that works, but the user can still tab to the fields.

You could add active links that trap the gain focus and change the
focus to another field too. (But that gets real old if you have to
maintain dozens of fields like that too.)

I think there is an RFE in that thought

Add the the ability to remove a field from the tab order for a form. (
So the field can not be tabbed to at all. )

Re: SET-RO-COLOR

2006-09-13 Thread Eric Cleereman (IT)
I take a similar approach to it, but there is a way to do it with only 2 active
links.

I set my tab order up similar to this:
   Tab Field 1
   ...
   Tab Field 99
   No-Tab Field 1
   ...
   No-Tab Field 99

The first active link is on Tab Field 99. The active link fires on lose focus
and sets the focus to the first field they should be able to tab to.

The second active link is on No-Tab Field 99. The active link fires on gain
focus, and sets focus to Tab Field 99. This is needed because it is possible
to tab to No-Tab Field 99 by hitting shift-tab from Tab Field 1.

As the user can never tab into any other No-Tab Fields, I don't need active
links on any of those.
