I don't use ARLIST often, but when I have off and on these past 15 years, I am
usually pleasantly surprised.

Thank you for the flood of responses to yesterday's request for default SRM

As we approach the annual RUG week, finish a week with volatile subjects,
VOTE for MVP etc, and just in general appreciate the usefulness of having a
resource like arslist, its time to let Dan (Daniel Bloom) know how much we
appreciate his efforts. As with most volunteer jobs, thanks are far and few
between compared to the daily work involved. Dan does a great job keeping
the list active so we can continue to ask our questions, receive great
solutions, and debate relevant topics.

Take a moment to thank Dan for his efforts because without them the arslist
would not be as effective as it is.

Thanks Dan for all your contributions !!

Thank you and Goodbye!

2014-12-30 Thread Nau, Michael
Dear Listers,

today I ran the shutdown script on our ARS servers for the last time. After
almost 7 years of Remedy, we're moving on. I will think back to countless days
and nights of hard work, frustration, laughter and satisfaction we had with
Remedy. I want to keep this short, but as an engineer / developer hybrid I have
to say that the stability of the core system was always excellent. We had ONE
downtime supposedly caused by an internal error in all these years.

I haven't contributed much to the list, mainly because whenever I was thinking
about a 'might-work' solution to a problem posted here, one of the gurus had
already supplied a 'will-work' solution ;-) I have, however, gained great
insights from reading the discussions and your vast knowledge of the inner
workings of the system. When searching for a solution to a problem, our search
order was always List - Community - Google.

I wish you all the very best and a great start into 2015.

Regards,
Michael

2007-09-24 Thread arslist
Well, actually more like 4000 of you now,
official numbers out at BMCUserWorld.

My wish would be: Please ALL VOTE for the MVP and other
Awards.

That is how you show how much you appreciate the list.

Which reminds me, come to BMC UserWorld, 4 Great Reasons:

1) An Evening with Engineering.
Bring your toughest questions and ask away.
Ignore what the schedule says, it ends when it ends and not a moment before
(well, okay, everyone usually gives up by midnight)

2) Meet those folks you have talked to electronically on the list in person
and network with a great group of people

3) The usual conference stuff, sessions, tutorials, keynote speakers etc

4) VANCOUVER a spectacular setting. Great Restaurants. Rain.
Well, 2 out of 3

 Daniel
p.s. my favorite charity is The Stop www.thestop.org
if you donate please mention that it is in my honour :-)

It was the only way that I could think of to contact all of the people I have
worked with in the world of Remedy.

I know that in my 16 years of working with the AR system, I have crossed
paths with a number of the members of this great list and I just wanted to let
that at 8:30am the 17th my 23 year old son will be donating his kidney to me.

He graduated from college in December (with a degree in IT security) he has
put his life on hold and spent his time helping my wife and I as we struggle
with the loss of my kidney functions (due to some RA meds I was on in the 90s).
We do dialysis at home, so I can work fulltime and he sees my struggles every
day.

I know that we all think our children are unique and will always do the
right thing, but Andrew is the example of that. How many of us would in truth
change our lives forever for someone else? He is doing this with humor and a
desire to get his old man (me) off of that darn dialysis machine. Words cannot
describe how proud I am of him. In a lot of ways he has set the tone on how my

Sigh.
That email is that they just got to the hospital. We await the promised
update.

Should we have asked for them to arrange for volunteer staff to twitter us
with every detail,
Or perhaps just wait to hear back from him?

Considering he said in a few days, there is a chance that we will have a
reprieve from the usual banal Friday humour,
(we haven't heard from Gidd in a long time), by receiving some heart warming
news that all is well in Richter Land.

Then we can all raise our glasses on a Friday afternoon to Howard and Andrew
:-)

2012-02-08 Thread LJ LongWing
Just to explain/clarify thisI was just as confused when I started
working with itbut basically here it is for you.

When dealing with Overlay/Custom objects (both Dev Studio and API), when you
connect, it checks to see if you are a member of a group that has the flag
'Overlay Group' (Look on the group form) to 1. If not...you cannot work on
overlay objects. If you play around a bit with this field on the group form
you will see that there are certain groups that you cannot set to 1
(Administrator, Computed, Dynamic, etc)so, when connecting via the API,
if you don't set which 'group' can work on overlay/custom objectsyou
can'tsetting the two values below say that if you are a member of group
1 (Administrator), you canwhich I think is ironic because you can't set
Admin as the group through the GUIbut as you mention...it works :)

FYI for 7.6.04 java api
If you need to operate on Custom or Overlay objects
set the following in your api code
context.setOverlayGroup("1");
context.setDesignOverlayGroup("1");

'-
Api docs are getting less and less verbose, not even sure there are
any docs on the functions listed above...
