Re: UPDATE: Daylight saving time Technical Bulletin for AR System 6.0.1, 6.03 and 7.0.01

2007-01-21 Thread Easter, David
AR System 7.0.01 patch 002 is currently scheduled for early March. If a
hot fix is needed for your specific issue, hot fixes may be supplied
prior to Patch 002 through BMC Support. Support would also be better
able to determine to which defect you are referring and to and its
current status.

Listers,

Just a note for anyone that is utilizing a Server Group. I have been
advised not to install patch 1 for 7.0.1. I did upgrade to 7.0.1, but
there is a bug where the server does not recognize floating licenss
issued for a server group. This is fixed in patch 1, but I was informed
that it introduces another bug where the server does not release the
licenses from the user, after logout or after specified time. So I
cannot apply patch 1.

David,
Is there going to be a patch 2 coming that does not contain these
issues.?

As with all patches, it is recommended that both the server and Mid-Tier
are patched to the same level. However, were you to choose not to do
that, what I can say is that the patched library exists in the Mid-Tier
portion of the patch. As with all situations, you should try it in your
lab to determine if there are any negative effects in your environment
based on your decisions. Please read the readme files for each portion
of the patch for details on which fixes are within which portions of the
patch.

The information provided is there to enable you to make the best
decision for your environment. The affected libraries are used by both
the server and Mid-Tier, although they are more heavily used by the
Mid-Tier. Ultimately, each customer must review the information
provided and make a decision based on how the customer's environment
will be affected vs. the time and effort necessary to apply the patches.
Obviously, BMC's recommendation will be to load the patches.

In terms of a 7.0.00 Mid-Tier, the recommendation from BMC is to move
the Mid-Tier to AR System 7.0.01 and apply patch 001 because there is no
patch for AR System 7.0.00. Were you to stay on Mid-Tier 7.0.00 Patch
002, you would encounter the issues listed in the Technical Bulletin
that affect the Mid-Tier.

In a mixed environment, the recommendation would be to patch both the
Mid-Tier and Server with the appropriate files from patches. In other
words, if you are running a Mid-Tier of 7.0.01 and an AR System Server
of 6.03, load AR System 7.0.01 Patch 001 on the server and AR System
6.03 Patch 020 on the Mid-Tier (just like you'd do for any other patch).

Hi all:

To further add to Michelle's question - We are running AR6.3 p 18 / Mid
tier 7.0.0 patch 002 - Do We need to patch both the Midtier and ARS
Server to comply with the DST patch? Or can We just update to 6.3 p 20
and continue to run on Mid Tier 7.0.0 patch 002?

Reason I ask is because the latest Mid Tier release prompts a guest user
message as javascript alert (ARWARN [59] No such user exists --
successfully connected as a guest user :username) - same message as user
tool when logging in.

We have a script that automatically passes the username to remedy to
login, and it doesn't display this message on earlier mid tier releases.
This message confuses users when submitting tickets to our servicedesk -
anyone know where this message resides either in a filter or active
link?

All these users have records in the people form, but not in user form -
the user form should only have licensed support users correct?

Thanks for the help!!

My understanding always was that the ARServer does not keep its own registry

Is there anything that gives more detail as to what (and how) is affected?

Hi George,

In general, AR System does use the OS or Java Run Time engine for DST.
However, there is a library that is used in the Mid-Tier that does its
own DST calculations. This library had to be patched.

Overall BMC DST information can be found at:

I'm pushing BMC a little harder for [...] a more specific
description
of what will and what will not work properly after the DST
change on
 03/11 on a pre-DST-fix release

As mentioned, such a document is in the works and should be
available
next week - perhaps as early as Monday the 15th. When the
document
becomes official, I will post the contents of the technical

Re: UPDATE: Daylight saving time Technical Bulletin for AR System 6.0.1, 6.03 and 7.0.01

2007-01-16 Thread Lucero, Michelle - IST contractor
Sometimes, I really need to take a deep breath before I click send.

I would like to retract the last statement. It's ARS 7.0.1 that FB 6.3
is not compatible with.

So, back to my original question.
Do you know if the DST patches were tested in mixed environments as
well?

In particular Mid-Tier 7.0.01 Patch 1(DST) against ARS 6.3 Patch 20(DST)
and Flashboards 6.3 patch 20?
There always seems to be some slight incompatibility issues, especially
when it comes to Flashboard 6.3 qualifications and Mid-Tier 7.x.x

Thank you in advance,
Michelle

Whoa,

I just noticed something kind of wicked that I could have sworn wasn't
there before. Flashboard 6.3 is NOT compatible with Mid-Tier 7.0.1.
I'm pretty sure that when Mid-Tier 7.0.0 was listed there was a Yes
listed in the compatibility matrix.

With that said, does this mean we can't stay on Mid-Tier 7.0.0 with some
DST patch?

Thank you so much for updating us, David. We really appreciate it.

We all know that the compatibility matrix allows the 7.0.x Mid-Tier to
point to an ARS 6.3 server.

But, do you know if the DST patches were tested in mixed environments as

Hi All,

The DST document detailing the information that we know about how the
DST 2007 change affects supported versions of AR System is being made
available at:

http://documents.bmc.com/supportu/documents/78/29/67829/67829.pdf

It should show up on the support website by end of day on Jan 17,
2007. I have attached a .txt version of the PDF for those without
support access or that need the information as soon as possible.

Re: UPDATE: Daylight saving time Technical Bulletin for AR System 6.0.1, 6.03 and 7.0.01

2007-01-16 Thread Caressimo Jr., Anthony
Hi all:

To further add to Michelle's question - We are running AR6.3 p 18 / Mid
tier 7.0.0 patch 002 - Do
We need to patch both the Midtier and ARS Server to comply with the DST
patch? Or can
We just update to 6.3 p 20 and continue to run on Mid Tier 7.0.0 patch
002?

Re: UPDATE: Daylight saving time Technical Bulletin for AR System 6.0.1, 6.03 and 7.0.01

2007-01-16 Thread Easter, David
