migrate “form only” ? Every time I check form only, Migrator migrates all

Kathy,

Welcome to the wonderful world of Migrator.. :-)

Migrator does some funky things sometimes when migrating forms and fields.

First, when using Migrator, even though you select the forms, and then right
click and select Form Only, you'll also want to check to make sure that
under your preferences (Tools/Options/Migration/Required Objects) you have
the related objects unchecked.

Second, if I REALLY want to be sure I'm only migrating the forms, I usually
export them to a file first. You can use the Export feature of Dev Studio to
export to a .def (which Migrator will convert) or use Migrator to export to
a migrator file. Either way, I am then able to check the file for any
unwanted objects before migrating.

Tim Powell

We are in the same boat and would also be interested in other people's
recommendations and experiences with the ITSM 8.1.x upgrade. I'm leaning
towards upgrading in place because I'm not at all familiar with using scripts
to bring over the latest production data - and what about the data in stored in
custom forms, not to mention all of the background forms?

I guess the big question is, how long does it actually take? (I guess we'll
find out soon as we prepare to run it in Test.)

Thanks for your help.

Hi Koyb,

I think you will find that there is no upgrade in place facility for 7.0.3, so
I would recommend you stand up a new server.

We offer a Data Migration Script package

fixed price data migration service
http://www.softwaretoolhouse.com/services/srv_migration_details.html
solution that will bring all your data over (Foundation, Transaction,
Templates, CIs, etc) and allow a high degree of changes – such as Operational
and Product Catalogues, Support Organization and Structures, even Operating
companies. It will also move Changes of type Release to the Release module.

Let me know if you are interested in a presentation or a trial. Trials are

Please setup new environment , install present version products and then import
 DB from PRODUCTION.

After that, I will recommend you to use config checker which is packaged with
AR Installer zip file. The tool has ability to find most of configuration and
unique ID violation issues due to which remedy upgrades can fail. It will save
your efforts.

Note : no need to revert DB if upgrade fails. We can fix the issue and re-run
installer….You can prepare a document with all issues you encounter during the
process.

Additional documentation :

1] https://kb.bmc.com/infocenter/index?page=contentid=KA400850
this KB mentions all important links and documents related to pre and post
 8.1 upgrade.
Refer cook book attached to KB for solutions on upgrade issues.

2] You may find msm arx failures. We can fix them after upgrade.

3] asi_MSM_MigrationTasks_cfg.arx during ITSM upgrade import may take long
time if data 200. This increases upgrade time .. if you have multiple
environments then we can share the workaround to save 10 hrs. We skip those
2-3 arx imports and execute a direct SQL command to update required data.

The most common way I have seen discussed is actually an 'upgrade in place
on new hardware'

That meaning, to standup a new server, install the current version of
Remedy onto it, restore the prod DB to it, and follow the recommend upgrade
path to bring it to the latest version/patch that you are moving to, then
do vigorous testing to ensure that everything is cool...then do a DDM of
data from current prod over to 'new prod'and release it back into the
wild.
