I fear that as other towns make it more difficult for them increasingly AP will become the county dumping ground for convicted sex offenders. While we may not be able to stop something like this from opening (although there have been some creative suggestions on that, and this would be another way of making it a bit more difficult to open shop here) at minimum we need to ensure that preditors are not among those who flock to our city. I suggested the same to the council last month. They seemed to agree. Others need to press the council to introduce the ordinance prohibiting ssex offenders from living within 2,500' of schools, daycares, libraries, parks, etc. Yahoo! --- In AsburyPark@yahoogroups.com, asburycouple [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Yesterday was another great beach day, despite some wind. However, I was really struck by how much litter was on the beach. If we're going to continue our momentum and attract more visitors, the beach really needs to be as clean as others. There's always going to be some trash unfortunately, but it seemed really excessive. Do we contract with anyone to do this throughout the summer? Perhaps it was the wind. Sat night the beach looked clean. We have a new beach cleaning machine. Also, what's the deal with only one lifeguard on the beach on weekends? Is this normal? We moved away for about a year, so missed last summer, but two years ago there was always a lifeguard on the beach near convention hall. Perhaps it's just too early to pay someone when few are swimming. Does anyone know? June 28 I believe the lifeguards start at all beaches 7 days/week. Yahoo! It is one thing to take care of your own town's problem, and even pick up some of the outside area's problems, but it is another to become a dumping ground. Furthermore, the self-policing of these faciltiies is many times not sufficient. First hand experience look at what goes on many times at Trinity's lunch. It is a problem. Yahoo! I don't think anyone suggests that we shirk our social responsibility. What it is however is an overload on the city. More importantly, many of these services start shipping clients into the facilities. It is one thing to take care of your own town's problem, and even pick up some of the outside area's problems, but it is another to become a dumping ground. Doesn't this issue owe its existence to the colossal failure of our courts, policing and system of incarceration? In almost every instance the courts exist to tax those caught breaking any one of an ever growing list of societal taboos; everything from child predation to the nickel and diming of parking meters, speed traps, drinking and driving, which now includes operating a bicycle and ever more ludicrous acts which share one thing in common. How much money can judge and prosecutor extract from the fool before them? Clearly this has proven profitable for government treasuries but at an ever growing cost of greater disrespect for the courts. NIMBY is part of this but the greater problem is the failure of sentencing to address the ill health of those caught; shipping them further down the road is akin to sticking your head more deeply in the sand. Why not insist government clean its own house and deal with societal problems? Yahoo! Groups Sponsor ~-- You can search right from your browser? It's easy and it's free. As a long time former resident of Asbury, and a soon to be future home owner and part time resident, I am happy to see the changes that were waited for but never happened 20 years ago. I am inspired so much so from my recent visit, that I quickly began to search for a home so I can visit as often as I can. I want my 4-year-old son to know this place. I live in FL and care for elderly relatives here in my home, otherwise I would move full time. It's good to see that butterfly finally emerge from a rather long and painful metamorphasis. Yahoo!
