[AsburyPark] a political rant
Is anybody else sick to death of the complete and utter bullshit being heaped upon America this election season? Here along the Jersey shore the assembly and senate have become increasingly ugly. For instance, we have two woman running for senator. For all intents and purposes they are both extraordinary candidates. Very sharp, hard working, and ethical woman. I really can't decide who to vote for so I have made a point of reading up on them and trying to catch their debates on ye olde boob toob. For those of you who don't know, NJ sets the standard for political corruption. Along with corruption, we in Monmouth County are now facing the closure of Fort Monmouth. The closure of Fort Monmouth, 90 years old this year. The main defensive and offensive facility to protect NY harbor, Fort Monmouth was instrumental in our winning WWII. Radar and the walkie Talkie were both developed at the fort. In fact, after the war, Bell Labs emerged from fort personnel and our phone system was developed by these electronic engineers. When the BRAC Commission voted to close the fort, CECOM, the communications team at the the fort , were working on a means of detonating roadside bombs so that our soldiers in Iraq wouldn't die from these incessant roadside bombings. Evidently, due to a multitude of reasons, one which was simply a reaction to the loss of jobs and the impending decision to move to wherever they decide to relocate the fort. Well, it's 2+ years after the decision and it has come out that the 750 million dollars needed to close the fort is more like 1.5 billion. This is not a slight error on a calculator. This is outright corruption at the highest level. The 2 leaders of the BRAC Commission both had ties in Maryland where a large chunk of the forts mission is supposed to relocate to. So, you would think that 2 state senate candidates would be hot to trot over this issue. No way, instead the girls are sniping at one another over traffic tickets and other seemingly mindless BS that means nothing. One of the candidates has already spent 4 million dollars on her campaign, most it toward mud slinging ads at her opponent. How about last weeks Democratic debate and the furor over Hillary. They will say whatever they have to in order to win the presidency. But that is not the issue. The issue is that nobody seems to care. Let 'em lie, let 'em cheat, let 'em steal. It's as if that has become the American Way. In the wake of Bush and Clinton, somebody needs to rise above this bullshit that is suffocating The American Way of Life. Re: [AsburyPark] Re: Clear Channel Bruce Springsteen's Latest
Let's face it the country is runing low on money so they sell licenses. There have been a couple of cases recently where a group of citizens had hired a lawyer and petitioned the FCC to block license renewal based on the fact that the station in their area wasn't serving the public. Since the FCC does not, well isn't supposed to, concern itself with content teh licenses were renewed. To comment on why Clear Channel plays old music rather than music by old people. If the music you play is older than 25 years old you don't have to pay music licensing fees. If they were inclined to play music by old people they would have pay for it. --- 2fine4u [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: See what I mean? I was originally very excited about the prospect of this restaurant...good food, casual atmosphere, great location. I was even there on opening night. But recently there has been a tail off in appeal... limited menu selections (even with their new chef ) gets a bit boring and $100 dinners and $60 lunches for my family has got me thinking that those paninis 2 doors down are looking pretty appetizing... --- In AsburyPark@yahoogroups.com, dfsavgny [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: --- In AsburyPark@yahoogroups.com, oakdorf oakdorf@ wrote: --- In AsburyPark@yahoogroups.com, joy norton cujosmom2@ wrote: Is it just me or was this other people's experience too? Do you approve the amendment of Article VII,Background:...The sales tax increased from 6 to 7 cents in July of ... Reasons to vote yes: · Property taxes are very high relative to other taxes in New Jersey. This dedication is a step toward providing relief to property tax payers. · Dedication of tax revenue prevents it from being used for general spending and insures its availability for the intended purpose. A constitutional dedication can only be changed by the voters. Reasons to vote no: · Constitutionally dedicating taxes reduces the flexibility of the state to direct revenues to changing priorities. · The one penny increase in the sales tax passed in 2006 was to provide additional money to help balance the budget. Dedicating this increase leaves the state budget under funded which will force budget cuts or borrowing to fund programs not defined for use by the property tax relief fund. =For me, the above format provides the most useful tool for decision-making. [AsburyPark] Another Twist on BAD Lighting.
Noticed tonight that the small signs along the Ocean Ave sidewalk of ConHall have been lit up. I mean LIT UP to the point of being a distraction and diminishing the natural beauty of the building. I had hoped that good sense would prevail and the simple incandescent lamps in the archways would be the defining feature on the front of ConHall. A beautiful series of arches and columns. It is not to be. Another example of TOO MUCH light for no legitimate purpose that erodes the intrinsic beauty of Asbury Park. Not to mention a National historic Site. I havn't posted on the board in a long time, weeks, if not longer. Nice job on pointing that out Werner. I noticed what you spoke of a few days ago. For anyone who's not sure what's being spoke of; the square wood framed display cases that read Paramount have been lit up. Lit up to the point where their brighter then a flood light! I think the bulbs have always been inside the boxes but were never turned on? Not sure.. I like the idea of lighting them up, however the lights currently being used are too bright. As bright as they are, they don't even light up what needs to be scene! It's a blinding light around the perimeter of the box. Charlie __ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam? Yahoo! Re: [AsburyPark] Re: Salt Water Cafe - is it just me?
I've never been to the Salt Water Cafe, so I can't speak too much about it. However from the first day it opened it was obvious it was a completely different type of place. It wasn't a bad place in my mind, it still isn't. I just don't think it's what most people invisioned being in that location... I'm sure once the rest of the high end condos and townhouses are built up it will fit right in... ha. You have to figure, it does make sence, an upscale looking place like SWC has to cater to the needs of these new owners to some extent. I don't like the direction the boardwalk is going in right now. I like all the new stores and food places that opened in the SWC building but they don't give the right look for what the AP boardwalk was. or sopose to be. Something as simple as the awings over each new store gives off an upscale look. Something you would not find on a Jersey Shore boardwalk. Maybe it's just my artistic eye that picks up on these things. I don't know. The awnings look nice, nothings wrong with them. But when you start seeing them everywhere, it starts to give off an entirly different look A look that doesn't even look like your on the boaredwalk. __ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam? Yahoo! The 2 key issues facing our nation are terrorism and corruption. The war being waged by the DOD against terrorism is so rife with corruption that America stands no chance on winning either battle. That not one candidate, from the locals to the nationals is standing up to this challenge is evidence that we are in deep shit, er, make that deep bullshit. Yahoo!
