[AsburyPark] Re: Library Square Park update and Trinity Church Meeting

2007-11-06 Thread 2fine4u
Jack,
So glad to hear that you have connected with someone. I edited my
reply just to say this. Yesterday I celebrated my anniversary, by
going on an early Christmas shopping jaunt and lunch in Eatontown. We
came through Sunset Ave. to Main St. At the light was the dog and
pony show, the PD on horseback, a gross waste of money IMHO, but if
this is what the residents want, who am I? Being of a practical mind,
I could think of so many better ways the funds dedicated to this,
could be spent. Having been raised in a large city, Cops on horseback
were used during Mardi Gras season, when the Circus came to town and
at the Superdome. Crowd control! Where's the crowd here? I've also
seen mounted police at Veterans Stadium, during football season, yeah,
I know it was torn down and at Shea Stadium, when the Jets played
there! crowd control! Is it me or is Asbury, a gentrified fairy
tale? I mean that literally, no puns or jokes intended! I'm serious!
What a waste, as they trotted and walked down Main St. Couldn't
wait, to get away from them. It's a shame and we allow it!

 Greetings,
I'll like to update the group with things concerning LSP.
First off, I'm continuing in my effort to get the lighting fixed.
Reidy still hasn't returned my
email, but I have had a discussion with his assistant about 2 weeks
ago, but as of yet, still
no progress with getting the lights fixed. I'll keep trying though,
and I may have a meeting
with JK very soon to discuss this.
The PD has been patrolling the area since I found the hypodermic
needle, and the ocean
front security patrols have also expanded to the east side of the park.
Since the cleanup of the park, no new drug bags have been found.
Unfortunately, some of
our residents still view the vandalized fountain and surrounding
park as a dumping
 ground.

Thanks to those of you who responded to my post yesterday. I really appreciate
your kind
words and support. I'll keep you posted as I move forward. Now, I'm trying to
think of the
best way to help implement the Change for Asbury Program I described
yesterday. I've
never done anything like this before, so any suggestions would be appreciated.

2007-11-05 Thread asburycouple
Jack, thank you so much for the update. It really sounds like
Trinity is committed to trying to serve it's purpose with an eye on
also being a good community citizen and listening to those who
surround the church. Bravo.

I would be happy to contribute to the fund you mention below. Just
let me know. I'd be happy send it to you.

And thanks for staying on this issue. Sometimes it may seem like
nobody's listening but you are in fact making a difference and should
feel very good about that.

The PD has been patrolling the area since I found the hypodermic
needle, and the ocean
front security patrols have also expanded to the east side of the
park.
Since the cleanup of the park, no new drug bags have been found.
Unfortunately, some of
our residents still view the vandalized fountain and surrounding
park as a dumping
 ground.
I also had a great meeting with David Stout on Saturday. He was
very happy to hear my
concerns, and we discussed quite a few things that would help to
keep the area safe and
 clean. Here's some highlights;
 1) Trinity now has a person dedicated to cleaning up the area after
their soup kitchen
closes for the day. While it's only one person at the moment, it is
making a difference.
 2) Trinity now opens their bathroom for soup kitchen users, under
supervision. This will
cut down on people using the park as a bathroom.
 3) David and I discussed creating an incentive program
called Change Asbury Park which
would provide a small amount of monetary assistance to people in
need who are
interested in helping to keep our city clean. We discussed the
possibilty of having a
change drive to help fund the program. I've already offered to
donate the large amount of
change I generate each month to help with this. This clean up
program would start with
the park, and expand throughout the city. We are hoping that we
could teach the city
about littering by example. I know this sounds optimistic, but
nothing else is being done
at the moment and we have to start somewhere.
 4) David would also like to see the other churches surrounding the
park get involved with
cleanup, so that's something we will be working on
 5) We also discussed the creation of a community based webcam
network that would
consist of webcams placed on all of the surrounding churches, which
could be viewed on a
common webpage, and monitored by citizens.
 6) I didn't bring this up, but I'm willing to donate stickers and
printed plastic bags to
identify the handouts coming from Trinity. This would help to
identify the people who are
littering with these items, and possibly provide an incentive not
to do so.
 7) We also discussed the fact that the park is underused by the
community at large, and
that it would be great to bring some small events into the park.
This will be an ongoing
 discussion.
That's about all for now. I'll keep the group posted on our
progress.
I also would like to say that David Stout has his heart in the
right place, and he
understands the need to become better neighbors with the
communtity. He wants to work
harder too, and it was really great getting to meet him.
I also had the opportunity to see the soup kitchen in person, and I
must say it was a bit
sobering and depressing. They are serving people ranging from 10
years old to seniors,
and being helped with compassion and dignity.
In closing, I'd just like to thank my fellow group members for
their support, and hopefully
in time this effort will make a little difference in our city.
 Jack
