[AsburyPark] PAramount and CH more and more
getting back to being THE draw for AP. That, the ocean, the beach and bw. THAT will help grow the rest of the city. So maybe you'll wind up with condos or hotels or rooming houses or an apartment building on the ocean. Time will tell. Dickey Betts Great Southern coming 10/9 to the Paramount. Yahoo! [AsburyPark] Paramount walks away from Neptune/Shark River
citing neptune refeusing to use eminent domain, current market etc etc etc, PAramount walks away from developing the nepotune peice of the shark river. 1. They couldn't buy the land fair and sqaure. 2. The current economy And (my guess) there is a particualr project that needs to get sold out. Like another 100 or more units. Given that and their bank (amboy) has quite a few shakey projects that will ahve to account for real soon. Yahoo! Facade of Paramount Theatre to be restored by November Posted by the Asbury Park Press on 10/11/07 BY NANCY SHIELDS STAFF WRITER ASBURY PARK Larry Potter and his Landmark Studio crew out of Pittstown, Hunterdon County, hope to finish up the first phase of their restoration work on the Paramount Theatre facade by early November. Madison Marquette, the lead developer of the entertainment portion of the city's beachfront plan, brought Potter to Asbury Park to first work on the ornamental ceiling of the 1,500-seat theater in April. By June, Potter started on the south side of the 1929 building's facade where his workers are repairing and replacing stone blocks on the corners and restoring numerous decorative copper and terra cotta ornamentation including copper sailing ships and lanterns. We're trying to get this (south) elevation and arcade in good shape, Potter said. The theater, part of the Convention Hall arena and arcade complex designed by architects Warren and Wetmore, was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979. Potter is taking apart a 12-foot sailing ship with three masts on the south roof. Another 12-foot ship, which looks like it is slowing sinking, awaits him on the north side, and two smaller ships are on the theater's west side. The copper is in very good shape, Potter said. The way we're pulling it apart is very important on how it goes back together. Madison Marquette also has begun renovations of the Casino and power plant at the southern end of the boardwalk and is following a plan to renovate the boardwalk pavilions. The work at the Paramount includes reglazing the colorful terra cotta designs of sea horses and sea monsters, and restoring three types of lanterns sconces, barrel lamps and ship lamps. Yahoo! [AsburyPark] Paramount Classic Movies
In a message dated 10/5/2007 12:46:11 P.M. Eastern Daylight Time, [EMAIL PROTECTED] writes: I've said many tines that Asbury Park should fill the viod left by the removal of entertainment and recreation from the surrounding area. Seems like a 'no-brainer' in terms of market potential. Museum with Imax perhaps? Roller/Ice Skating or Indoor Tennis at the Casino Arena anyone? Would be great if the suit peeps could bring this or something similar to APpreferably the Paramount. No nickle and dime effort, though...Think big like Clearview's little Red Bank house, but not like their Middlebrook strip mall garages. Call it Paramount Classics, Classics on the Boardwalk, on the Ocean; Esperanza Classics, whatever. _Click here: Clearview Cinemas: Chelsea Classics_ (http://www.clearviewcinemas.com/classics-chelsea.shtml) SEE THE CLASSICS! [AsburyPark] paramount entrace and walkway
The new short lights in the half round shape near the Parmount entrance look nice. i suspected they were coming a few weeks ago from the size of electrical bases they had. Looks good. There are still 2 mystery light bases on each side of the walkway. I can't figure out what they will be, maybe something different that takes longer to arrive. It's pretty amazing what that area has become, and what it has gone from. When you talk about land use, this is land use at it's best. I enjoy what's there now a lot more then what was there before. Before the grassy area may have looked nice, but think how much more usefull this new layout is. It's not full of concrete either. Theres lot of green and relaxing looknig plants too. Theres also a lot of space for outdoor music and other outdoor events. Also, take notice how many crowds of people walk from Ocean Ave to the boardwalk. This wasnt even thinkable in the previous desgin. Side by side on the one small sidewalk is how it was! Yahoo! [AsburyPark] Paramount entrance
what's everyone think of the new Paramount entrance? Now that it's taking shape, we can see what it's going to look like more. I wasn't expecting the huge courtyard next to it, but it looks like it will open things up a lot. I hope the walkway goign from ocean to the boardwalk is still curved, matching the HoJo ramp. If they square it off to match the courtyard ill be mad. But i'll see what happens. Yahoo! Re: [AsburyPark] Paramount Entrance
Werner, Very good observation - I missed it originally. My concern is that maybe it is intentional blight - as they did with the Casino - let it fall into horrible disrepair and not adress the small maintenance issues so that people forget how beautiful it once was and then a few years pass and no one is that concerned or questions the numbers when they say the building is a total loss and will not be able to be saved In a message dated 3/30/2007 1:45:32 AM Eastern Daylight Time, [EMAIL PROTECTED] writes: When I posted the note about the demolition at the Paramount Theatre I intentionally left out my commentary to see what discussion would turn up. I fear that everyone has missed the point. Its not about whether it was the real entrance or not (it was not). Its not about building a better entrance either. The issue is, why spend resources - time, money, manpower, reconstruction, etc on something that was not needed. The ConHall needs serious attention, the windows, terra-cotta, structural steel, architectural metals, etc. The building is deteriorating and nothing is being done to halt that. Instead a functional, usable entrance is demolished. Doesn't that strike anyone as being irresponsible? Werner ** See what's free at http://www.aol.com.
Re: [AsburyPark] Paramount Entrance
a ha! yes, i noticed you didnt leave your views on it. interesting points, and true. they probably chose to work on it, so that whole courtyard area will be new looking. they said that whole area would be done with the same time that that hojo ground floor would be done. i guess they figured thats a straight view out of the hojo downstairs windows. makes sence kind of. i see your points though. the windows are on their way, arnt they? - Be a PS3 game guru.
