This was not really about what I like or dislike. When I said I did not like a particular word, all that was meant was that I thought I wouldn't be able to use it in the context that I wanted it for.
I am not a literary giant/Xahittik like many of you on the net, but I know this much (as I repeatedly mentioned in my posts) that a phrase like 'mone-mone' has many nuances. Like I said in my first/original mail, 'mone`mone` thaka/thakok' may have been meaningful but rude in certain situations. 
But as a layperson and a native Assamese I would say this much - if 'mone`-mone`' by itself means 'quiet please' then I don't know the language as a native Assamese. I sincerely hope this does not foretell perceptive standards for Assamese translation.

But I can play a drum even when I am MOUNO.

This was not really about what I like or dislike. When I said I did not like a particular word, all that was meant was that I thought I wouldn't be able to use it in the context that I wanted it for.

Quiet is also not a verb. Mone mone is an adverb just like quite. 
NIXOBDE is another adverb one can use.
Quiet, Mone mone, Nixobde are all adverbs and mean not to make sound (not 
merely not to talk).
The problem is we are used to the English words but not to the Assamese or 
Hindi words.
If we post the word NIXOBDE in Assamese on a wall in a hospital, people will 
understand like they will understand if we write the word QUIET.
MOUNOTA on the other hand mean simply not talking.
BTW we can use the word ONUGROH as a verb by simply writing ONUGROHE meaning 
ONUGROH KORI.
For a change, we Assamese need to think original what the Hindiwalla and 
Bengaliwala are not thinking.
We don't have to follow them like a litikai in every field.

also, 'mone`-mone`' can be used for so many things - like 'mone`-mone` kotha paatiba, mone`-mone` jaaba, mone` mone` khaba', etc.

It is for our library - people can talk, but not loud enough - we can't expect them not to make any sound or not to talk but respect others and be considerate of and not disturb others . What do they write in the libraries in Assamese in Assam? Or do they even write that in Assamese? 'laahe laahe kotha paatibo'? how do they say 'quiet area'? 'Nistobdho' would mean total silence - no noise at all. 'Xaanto jega' would mean peaceful - would mean much more than just being quiet, 'hulosthul nokoribo' wouldn't fit either. It sounds so easy but it is so difficult to get the right meaning sometimes, especially if it has to be short, isn't it? Thanks again.

If you want one word, MONE MONE is a good  Assamese word. It is not rude like 
Hindi CHUP. 
I donot think it is used in Bengali. Thus Mone Mone is a unique Assamese word.

I think "MOUNOTA BANCHANIYA" may serve the purpose in Assamese. In hindi it may 
be "MOUN RAHIYE". It is my opinion.
