RE: [Asterisk-Users] IAX2 Over Satellite = It works !
What differences between IAX2 and SIP did you see? What sat provider are you using? And what's your average bandwidth available? I'm in Guatemala, and I know some people on satellite would be overjoyed to find a working VoIP solution. Unfortunately, it's mainly DirecWay, and they really suck (750ms seems to be on the low end of response times :(). Hello all , I´d like to annouce and share my results on using IAX2 over a satellite conn. here in Brazil. I´m using IAX2/G.729 and works very well except the latency on my link ( =~750ms ). Downstream conversation is perfect , the Upstream works fine but i feel some long delays. I don´t have any kind of echo :) I was using SIP/G.729 and i didn´t have problems ... but i have to say ... that IAX2 is better in this case. Re: [Asterisk-Users] IAX2 Over Satellite = It works !
Hello Michael , I´m using Hughes Telecom services. His satellite footprint unfortunatelly , don´t cover your area. I have sucess using other providers. My contract allows me a downstream conn ( 512kbps/s ) and upstream ( 100kbps/s). I don´t know exacly to say why IAX2 over satellite is better than SIP. I only have made some tests and i had a better conversation Using IAX. Regards , -Jefferson Carvalho Michael Giagnocavo wrote: What differences between IAX2 and SIP did you see? RE: [Asterisk-Users] IAX2 Over Satellite = It works !
How does the call feel to you? That would be a one or two second delay between your statement and the other person's reply, no? Just curious, since this could be a great solution for some of the remote areas of the US, if it is workable. I know StarBand as of two years ago would be entirely useless, but Hughes may be an alternative. -Original Message- From: Jefferson Carvalho [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Monday, October 18, 2004 2:14 PM To: Asterisk Users Mailing List Subject: [Asterisk-Users] IAX2 Over Satellite = It works ! RE: [Asterisk-Users] IAX2 Over Satellite = It works !
Thanks for the info. We are using Hughes down here too (since they provide services to DirecWay). Not sure how the relationship is exactly. I think here (Guatemala) we use SATMEX5. Next week I'll try it out. I'll be shocked out of my mind if it works on the sat connections down here, but hey, more sales :). RE: [Asterisk-Users] IAX2 Over Satellite = It works !
Which Sat company are you using? I struggled and got it working on Aramiska but their latency is up to 4.5 seconds. Haven't figured out why it's so long but assume they have some bad routing issues - as they are now going to offer a new service that guarantees 600ms.
