The answer is that you can but you really shloud not as it
complicates lots of things. You can install both versions and run them
at the same time as long as you pick different ports for all services
like SIP, IAX, AMI, RTP, etc. Not using default ports will mean that
you have to modify all configurations for each endpoint you want to
connect to the secondary Asterisk.

If you only want to try out Asterisk 12 why not use a Virtual
Machine for testing?

2014-09-22 Thread Deepak Rawat
Thank you for the response Carlos! We have done the testing on a VM. I want
to deploy it on a production machine which already has 1.4 on it. I want to
keep both so in case there is any issue with 12.4, I can quickly revert to
1.4. I can take care of configuring different ports for different services
but will there be any issues due to upgradation of dependencies? Is there a
way to install dependencies of asterisk 12.4 at different path so they
don't conflict with 1.4 dependencies?

No I didn't.
I would have thought that rubygems installation should car of this (adding

As I'm new to Ruby, I wondered if I forgot something (before or after gem

To be more specific, I followed instructions from

Replying to myself, it seems this question has already been debated (see:
http://stackoverflow.com/questions/5616156/rubygems-doesnt-add-var-lib-gems-1-8-bin-to-path

Adding in config lines such as export PATH=/var/lib/gems/1.8/bin:PATH is
left to sysadmins on a case by case basis.

I can now understand the reasons behind.

Thanks for replying.

 Hi.
I've been working with Asterisk for a few month now with great results.
I'm very happy with this product. I hope I can be of help in the

Right now I'm having some problems installing it in a new server.

I wont bore you with details because finally the solution to my
 problem was
clean and elegant and it came from a guy in a Linux mailing list.

 Here is my question.
My first install experience was quit a headache. I downloaded the
 sources from Digium,
make them and after that make install them. Before that, I had to
 install all the dependencies
bison, ncurses, zlib,gcc...and all there devels packages.
After that, libpri, dahdi and finally Asterisk.
I did it the first time for a server with Fedora 12. Took a while but
 it is running now.
Then I decided to install in a new server. My project is geting bigger
 so, why not ?
This time, the server was up with Fedora 13. No problem.
Well not so fast. Yes problem !!! I can not install it !!!
But my new friend from Linux.org mailing list suggested: yum install
 Asterisk
and voila There you have it, Sr. A new Asterisk up and running in
 5 seconds.

How come nowhere in the internet, nor in Digium.com docs, blogs, or
 whatever,
anybody mention that yum install is available ? Why nobody ever make a
 small
note telling that asterisk is available from repositories to install,
and that is so easy ?

Can anybody explain that to me ?
 Thanks
 Alberto.

The short answer from someone who sees Linux as a means to an end (
running Asterisk ) is the rpm install forces one to accept Asterisk as
built for the rpm, whereas installing from source gives a much more
flexible install regarding any options.

Also, I would suggest next time use CentOS 5, rather than Fedora. Linux
distros are always somewhat of a religious argument, but many fewer
problems seem to be reported that with Fedora.
and then there is the Debian camp!

Fedora made the packages for their yum I'd guess. Their job to document.

For CentOS there is documentation:

http://www.asterisk.org/downloads/yum

Which is top result for 'asterisk yum install'. I figured asterisk.org would be
a good place to look for Asterisk stuff..

He will need DAHDI if he plans on using MeetMe().

Also, internal timing is only available on 1.6+. So if he plans on running 1.4,
he will need DAHDI in order to playback audio files.

While working with Rhino hardware I was told by their technical support that
no virtual machine software gives access to the PCI bus, so using zaptel or
dahdi is not an option over the virtual machines. Although somebody has said
otherwise on this list but make sure you actually have access to the dahdi
hardware from within your virutal machines before trying to compile these
drivers. If it is possible to do so, it would help me too.

Debian, Fedora, OpenSUSE and Ubuntu include binary packages of Asterisk.

Digium maintains a yum repository of packages for Centos5:

There are various other binary distributions that include Asterisk, such

Re: [asterisk-users] install the digium card TC400P howto?

2009-08-26 Thread F6HQZ
Hi Francois,

Here is Francois too. :-)

Why to not ask to your Digium card provider ?

Example for Zaptel (fortunately same for Dahdi) :
via Linux console and dmesg :

Registered codec translator 'DTE Encoder' with 92 transcoders
(srcs=000c, dsts=0101)
Registered codec translator 'DTE Decoder' with 92 transcoders
(srcs=0101, dsts=000c)
Zaptel DTE (G.729a / G.723.1) Transcoder support LOADED (firm ver = 6.12)

via CLI :

*CLI transcoder show
0/0 encoders/decoders of 92 channels are in use.

change by this way via Linux console :

rmmmod wctc4xxp
modprobe wctc4xxp mode=g729

The module will be loaded with the G729 exclusive mode and 120 channels
will be available.

dmesg extract after that :

Registered codec translator 'DTE Encoder' with 120 transcoders
(srcs=000c, dsts=0100)
Registered codec translator 'DTE Decoder' with 120 transcoders
(srcs=0100, dsts=000c)
Zaptel DTE (G.729a) Transcoder support LOADED (firm ver = 6.12)
Found and successfully installed a Wildcard TC: Wildcard TC400P+TC400M

*CLI transcoder show
0/0 encoders/decoders of 120 channels are in use.

Checks with 120 concurrent calls :

transcoder show
120/0 encoders/decoders of 120 channels are in use.

*CLI core show channels
...SNIP...
240 active channels
120 active calls

*CLI core show translation

  Ok.

Now, I follow the digium documents.

  I have the TC400B-user-manual-1.pdf

Where have I to insert the mode=g729 ?

  Chapter 3

  Configuration

At this time no zaptel.conf or zapata.conf changes are necessary to
utilize

this card. The ‘mode’ module parameter may be used to specify which

  complex codes are allowed.

„ mode = mixed: This default option will enable 92 calls of G.729a or

  G.723.1 (5.3Kbit)

  „ mode = g729: This option will enable 96 calls of G.729a

The SpanDSP one in Etch is too old and the one in Lenny is too new.
That said, I really don't see why people stick with that old spandsp
0.0.4pre16 . There have been bug fixes since. Not to mention some
crashes. This is why I bothered backporting spandsp from Asterisk 1.6.0
(app_fax.c is also a better behaving Asterisk module. e.g. does not keep
its own personal log files).

Hi Andrew,

JFYI - I run (successfully) agx-addons with 1.4.22 and Etch.

Make sure you have the right version of SpanDSP installed (as well as the
 tiff libraries).

which are (thinking of both SpanDSP and libiff) ?

How can I compile this without first installing Libtiff 3.8+ ?

I have a patched version of 3.7.2 that I need to keep to maintain my Hylafax
Jbig/Jpeg support. (Unless someone knows of a more recent Hylafax libtiff
patch)

I'm not sure mate - as I don't use HylaFax on that particular server.
Hopefully, someone else can help. Sorry.

I have installed the pre-requisite versions asked for and successfully got AGX
addons installed. Except it doesn't work. Failure to train remote modem at
2400 from the sending system. This suggests to me that it is trying to use
VoIP communications.

Is there a way to make this support T38 or do I just have to conclude that so
far every option is lousy?

I mean - how obvious is it to create something that works with T38?

We don't all have cheap PRI circuits available.

For some darned reason , the RxFax would not pickup an inbound fax .

Starting from asterisk 1.4.22 it did not longer work.

Should you really use this agx-ast-addons to get app_rxfax and
 app-_txfax running with latest 1.4.22 ?
If positive, should you take this libtiff warning into account ?
If positive, where can you find such libtiff version as Debian

 libtiff3 not libtiff.

Older base packages (older MySQL, etc).

As far as overall running Asterisk, you're not liable to run into
anything negative on the 4.5 side as opposed to 5.

some of the packages in 4 (4.5) are pretty old, eg. sox
that is bundled with 4.5 does not recognize several
common audio formats. You can upgrade some of the
 packages to more current versions.

If you plan to do any asterisk-AGI using php, centos 4.5
installs php4, most of the new php stuff is written in php5.

I would also suggest evaluating debian as an alternative
to centos 4 5 for your * box.

In my limited experience, I have found debian 4.0 (Etch)
to be a better platform for * than centos 4.5 5.
But please, I don't want to start a distro flame war here.

 YMMV.

I heard that the soon available CentOS 5.1 will have high resolution

timing quite a bit. For that reason alone I would prefer CentOS 5.1.

Except that FreePBX has problems with php5. I played with this a little with
asterisk 1.4 and CentOS 5 and got it all working, I just have not had time to
get the scripts finised.

The other thing with CentOS vs Debian is that CentOS packages do not change
every month or so. Debain seems to a little more on the bleeding edge of this,
which is not the best thing for a production system. It is totally person

Amen ! I have used centosplus and found it to be a very
 valuable companion resource for centos.

 On debian the equivalent is

 aptitude install php5-common php5-cli php5-dev php5-mysql

one difference I found between using yum on centos
aptitude on debian, and I am not sure if it is universally the case,
is that the packages hit the ground running with debian.

 Eg. I run
aptitude install ntp
and the system clock syncs in a few secs, I run
aptitude install mysql-server mysql-client
  and mysql server is running.

whatever happened to the need to dig around in obscure
directories looking in obscure .conf files, after installing
a package, trying to decide if you can have space between
the option -p the value :-)

I posted the original message because two different versions of the
libnetsnmp existed on the two systems, and the makefile indicated the
author was having issues that were suspected to be version dependent. So
I was offering up a system that had the problem (both fc3) in order to
assist in identifying the root cause.

I really don't have an interest of actually implementing snmp at this
time; just trying to help identify issues where I can as a non-programmer.

English is not my first language, so the instructions might be hard to
understand. If you are reading the README, it is because you already
extracted the tarball. You can place all files wherever you want: a
nice place is under /usr/local. I usually use /usr/local/fop. , the
only thing that is mandatory is to move the html and swf files
somewhere into your webroot for an obvious reason.

All other files can live anywhere.. and the .cfg file is just in the
same directory as the README, op_server.pl, etc. Anyways, FOP's
mailing list is a better place to seek for help about it, as is not
directly asterisk related.

Re: [Asterisk-Users] Install just to play with experiment

2005-08-12 Thread Mark Phillips
AAH uses the latest released version of *. This is somewhat different
to the CVS but can be considered stable for the purposes of production.

It also has the added benefits of a web front end to configure it as
well as some other nice webby features to make life easier when running it.

The CVS and the Stable versions have to be hand crafted when dealing
with the config files etc.

I have run both in my time. Currently I'm using AAH which for the most
part is fine as long as I don't want to do anything that the web front
end won't let me do. Once I start editing the config files the system
falls apart.

Horses for courses I think.

Re: [Asterisk-Users] Install just to play with experiment

2005-08-12 Thread Tom Rymes
[EMAIL PROTECTED] is not a feature limited version of asterisk designed for home
users. It is actually a collection of various software projects,
including Asterisk stable, the AMP Web interface, SugarCRM, a Cisco
phone configuration editor, plus ConfigEdit and a bunch of other
stuff, all nicely tied together.

On the other hand, Asterisk by default is a blank slate and there are
extremely few limitations on how you can configure it to meet your
needs. Extreme flexibility is the rule, and many do not like that
GUIs (AMP included) necessarily place limits on this flexibility. As
a result, it is harder to make more complex customizations.

However, I think that the average user will actually find that AMP
brings some order to the chaos that is Asterisk. Rather than
limiting their freedom, many users see it as saving them from
reinventing the wheel and having to learn the minutiae of Asterisk
configuration. In addition, if you are willing to invest some time
studying the inner workings of AMP, you can figure out how it works
and place custom programming in the /etc/asterisk/
extensions_custom.conf file.

In the end, it depends on what type of user you are, and what you
want to accomplish. If you want to develop an easy to use and
configure replacement for a traditional PBX that does not require you
to really get into the nuts and bolts of dilaplans, etc, then I think
[EMAIL PROTECTED] is for you. If you want to get into more complex things such as
connecting databases to your system to let customers access their
data interactively, etc, then you probably want to avoid the GUI,
because it will limit your flexibility.

As with most everything else, it depends!

And otherwise, you can try Asterisk @ Home, but be warned that it installs
a complete new system, so do not try it on an existing machine you do not
wish to be wiped clean first!

Considering your description, I think that you should definitely try
out [EMAIL PROTECTED] It includes AMP already configured and working,
and makes it very easy to configure and set up a SOHO system. you can
even set it up to make and receive phone calls by configuring an
account at Teliax, VoipJet (outgoing only, no incoming as of yet...),
or Broadvoice.

Go to asteriskathome.sourceforge.net and dowload the ISO fiile. As
mentioned earlier, BE CAREFUL!!! This CD will format your hard
drive, wipe out all data, and install a new CentOS system without
asking for your say-so.

Re: [Asterisk-Users] install BRIstuff on *@home?

2005-02-23 Thread Niksa Baldun
Each release of BRIstuff is made for a specific * version. BRIstuff
installer automatically downloads the correct version, patches and
installs it. You should just run the install.sh and it will replace your
current * installation. Your existing configuration (extensions.conf
etc.) will not be changed.

Bear in mind that you have to copy the BRI modules (qozap.ko and
zaphfc.ko) manually to your /lib/modules/`uname -r`/misc directory.

Erwin de Raad wrote:

I'm new to this so I probably am overlooking the obvious.
Can I just install BRIstuff onto a fresh [EMAIL PROTECTED] mailto:[EMAIL
 PROTECTED] install?

The BRIstuff installer downloads another * from Digium. Will this
interfere with the @home install and must I comment out the Asterisk
install in the BRIstuff install.sh file?

 Any pointers are much appreciated.

 Regards,
 Erwin.

Hello

Maybe offtopic but in relation to asterisk.
I like to create just as i've done before for dialin internet

Creating a ins file(windows) with php to give my user an easy setup with
x-lite.
This ins file push the vars into the windows registry.

Maybe someone like to help me to crack down some problems.
I don't know the pasword format it's not md5 but (the password in

I will set the php (click to install) script online, If more people like it

Re: [Asterisk-Users] install software version to mediatrix 1204 (how to)

2004-09-01 Thread Rich Adamson
i'm new here and i need help on how where can i get
software version 4.0.x of the mediatrix and how can i
 install it...

mediatrix unit im using has a software version of
2.4.9.57. i would like to use H.323 not SIP...

please need help asap!... hope to hear from anyone of
 you soon..

 thanks in advance!

The last time I checked, Mediatrix expects their resellers to support
their products directly. The resellers are told to charge their
customers for all software. Therefore, you'll need to go back to the
reseller from which you bought the box and ask them for the software.

In addition, you'll need the Windows configuration software that
matches the specific software that you're going to be using.

Behind the sceens, Mediatrix gives their resellers copies of both
the sip and 323 software. If you know your reseller well, you might
be able to talk them into giving you what you want. Otherwise, be
prepared to pay.

Re: [Asterisk-Users] Install Question

2004-06-14 Thread Brian McSpadden
From what I have seen and read, the TDM400P does not
require the wcfxo module, even though you have the FXO
modules installed in it. It appears that the code to
run the FXO modules has been rolled into the wcfxs
module. Make sure you are running a fairly recent
version of the zaptel source however. It is not in
0.7.2, but should be in .9 and newer CVS versions.

(There is no other error message before that, no header file seems to

1) Install Zaptel first.
2) You might want to wait until the end of the day or so, as it's
rumored the next release of Asterisk is just about to happen.

Might want to make sure your binaries are in the right place, or at least,
where the install script is looking for them - this was my problem.

This is one of those easy questions that you will learn should be
answered quickly by either searching with google, or later with just
 knowing what you are doing.

Your problem isn't that the libraries aren't installed, but rather you
don't have the -dev packages installed. When you compile software, you
need to have the headers to compile against the libraries.

Hopefully this lesson will help you get past what will probably be your
 next two or so questions.

Depending on the distribution you are using, you can probably find RPM's of
the development packages you need. If you are using Mandrake 9.1, the
packages you need are definitely available (though with Mandrake 9.1 you may
need to get some of the packages from the contrib section of Mandrake
online). If you re running Mandrake 9.1 and can not find all the packages,
send me and email and I can send them to you.
