Re: [asterisk-users] Install Asterisk 1.4 and Asterisk 12.4 on the same machine
Thank you for the response Carlos! We have done the testing on a VM. I want to deploy it on a production machine which already has 1.4 on it. I want to keep both so in case there is any issue with 12.4, I can quickly revert to 1.4. I can take care of configuring different ports for different services but will there be any issues due to upgradation of dependencies? Is there a way to install dependencies of asterisk 12.4 at different path so they don't conflict with 1.4 dependencies? Right now I'm having some problems installing it in a new server. I wont bore you with details because finally the solution to my problem was clean and elegant and it came from a guy in a Linux mailing list. Here is my question. My first install experience was quit a headache. I downloaded the sources from Digium, make them and after that make install them. Before that, I had to install all the dependencies bison, ncurses, zlib,gcc...and all there devels packages. After that, libpri, dahdi and finally Asterisk. I did it the first time for a server with Fedora 12. Took a while but it is running now. Then I decided to install in a new server. My project is geting bigger so, why not ? This time, the server was up with Fedora 13. No problem. Well not so fast. Yes problem !!! I can not install it !!! But my new friend from Linux.org mailing list suggested: yum install Asterisk and voila There you have it, Sr. A new Asterisk up and running in 5 seconds. How come nowhere in the internet, nor in Digium.com docs, blogs, or whatever, anybody mention that yum install is available ? Why nobody ever make a small note telling that asterisk is available from repositories to install, and that is so easy ? Can anybody explain that to me ? Thanks Alberto. The short answer from someone who sees Linux as a means to an end ( running Asterisk ) is the rpm install forces one to accept Asterisk as built for the rpm, whereas installing from source gives a much more flexible install regarding any options. Also, I would suggest next time use CentOS 5, rather than Fedora. Linux distros are always somewhat of a religious argument, but many fewer problems seem to be reported that with Fedora. and then there is the Debian camp! Older base packages (older MySQL, etc). As far as overall running Asterisk, you're not liable to run into anything negative on the 4.5 side as opposed to 5. N. Zaheer K. Master wrote: OK Thanks! Re: [asterisk-users] Install Scripts for CentOS 4
Except that FreePBX has problems with php5. I played with this a little with asterisk 1.4 and CentOS 5 and got it all working, I just have not had time to get the scripts finised. The other thing with CentOS vs Debian is that CentOS packages do not change every month or so. Debain seems to a little more on the bleeding edge of this, which is not the best thing for a production system. It is totally person preference and nothing else. But please, I don't want to start a distro flame war here. YMMV. The nice thing about CentOS (as opposed to Redhat proper) is that they provide the CentOS Plus repository, so installing PHP5/MySQL would be something like: # yum --enablerepo=centosplus install php php-mysql -- Kyle Sexton ___ --Bandwidth and Colocation Provided by http://www.api-digital.com-- asterisk-users mailing list To UNSUBSCRIBE or update options visit: http://lists.digium.com/mailman/listinfo/asterisk-users ___ --Bandwidth and Colocation Provided by http://www.api-digital.com-- asterisk-users mailing list To UNSUBSCRIBE or update options visit: http://lists.digium.com/mailman/listinfo/asterisk-users

There is something wrong with the instructions??? English is not my first language, so the instructions might be hard to understand. If you are reading the README, it is because you already extracted the tarball. You can place all files wherever you want: a nice place is under /usr/local. I usually use /usr/local/fop. , the only thing that is mandatory is to move the html and swf files somewhere into your webroot for an obvious reason. All other files can live anywhere.. and the .cfg file is just in the same directory as the README, op_server.pl, etc. Anyways, FOP's mailing list is a better place to seek for help about it, as is not directly asterisk related. -- Nicolás Gudiño Buenos Aires - Argentina ___ --Bandwidth and Colocation provided by Easynews.com -- Asterisk-Users mailing list To UNSUBSCRIBE or update options visit: http://lists.digium.com/mailman/listinfo/asterisk-users

Re: [Asterisk-Users] Install just to play with experiment
AAH uses the latest released version of *. This is somewhat different to the CVS but can be considered stable for the purposes of production. It also has the added benefits of a web front end to configure it as well as some other nice webby features to make life easier when running it. The CVS and the Stable versions have to be hand crafted when dealing with the config files etc. I have run both in my time. Currently I'm using AAH which for the most part is fine as long as I don't want to do anything that the web front end won't let me do. Once I start editing the config files the system falls apart. Horses for courses I think. Mark Michael Jones wrote: Is there a significant difference between the features set of [EMAIL PROTECTED] and regular asterisk? (important missing features?) Re: [Asterisk-Users] Install just to play with experiment
[EMAIL PROTECTED] is not a feature limited version of asterisk designed for home users. It is actually a collection of various software projects, including Asterisk stable, the AMP Web interface, SugarCRM, a Cisco phone configuration editor, plus ConfigEdit and a bunch of other stuff, all nicely tied together. On the other hand, Asterisk by default is a blank slate and there are extremely few limitations on how you can configure it to meet your needs. Extreme flexibility is the rule, and many do not like that GUIs (AMP included) necessarily place limits on this flexibility. As a result, it is harder to make more complex customizations. However, I think that the average user will actually find that AMP brings some order to the chaos that is Asterisk. Rather than limiting their freedom, many users see it as saving them from reinventing the wheel and having to learn the minutiae of Asterisk configuration. In addition, if you are willing to invest some time studying the inner workings of AMP, you can figure out how it works and place custom programming in the /etc/asterisk/ extensions_custom.conf file. In the end, it depends on what type of user you are, and what you want to accomplish. If you want to develop an easy to use and configure replacement for a traditional PBX that does not require you to really get into the nuts and bolts of dilaplans, etc, then I think [EMAIL PROTECTED] is for you. If you want to get into more complex things such as connecting databases to your system to let customers access their data interactively, etc, then you probably want to avoid the GUI, because it will limit your flexibility. As with most everything else, it depends! Tom On Aug 12, 2005, at 4:37 AM, Michael Jones wrote: Is there a significant difference between the features set of [EMAIL PROTECTED] and regular asterisk? Re: [Asterisk-Users] install software version to mediatrix 1204 (how to)
i'm new here and i need help on how where can i get software version 4.0.x of the mediatrix and how can i install it... mediatrix unit im using has a software version of 2.4.9.57. i would like to use H.323 not SIP... please need help asap!... hope to hear from anyone of you soon.. thanks in advance! The last time I checked, Mediatrix expects their resellers to support their products directly. The resellers are told to charge their customers for all software. Therefore, you'll need to go back to the reseller from which you bought the box and ask them for the software. In addition, you'll need the Windows configuration software that matches the specific software that you're going to be using. Behind the sceens, Mediatrix gives their resellers copies of both the sip and 323 software. If you know your reseller well, you might be able to talk them into giving you what you want. Otherwise, be prepared to pay. ___ Asterisk-Users mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://lists.digium.com/mailman/listinfo/asterisk-users To UNSUBSCRIBE or update options visit: http://lists.digium.com/mailman/listinfo/asterisk-users
Re: [Asterisk-Users] Install Question
From what I have seen and read, the TDM400P does not require the wcfxo module, even though you have the FXO modules installed in it. It appears that the code to run the FXO modules has been rolled into the wcfxs module. Make sure you are running a fairly recent version of the zaptel source however. It is not in 0.7.2, but should be in .9 and newer CVS versions. When you compile software, you need to have the headers to compile against the libraries. Hopefully this lesson will help you get past what will probably be your next two or so questions. Depending on the distribution you are using, you can probably find RPM's of the development packages you need. If you are using Mandrake 9.1, the packages you need are definitely available (though with Mandrake 9.1 you may need to get some of the packages from the contrib section of Mandrake online). If you re running Mandrake 9.1 and can not find all the packages, send me and email and I can send them to you. -- Thanks, Tim ___ Asterisk-Users mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://lists.digium.com/mailman/listinfo/asterisk-users
