[Audiogames-reflector] vegetarianism- your views?

vegetarianism- your views?

well, there was a rather heated discussion among my friends on whats truely vegetarian, and I thought of putting it up hear for different views.wickipedia defines the term as A vegetarian diet is derived from plants, with or without eggs or dairy.while this defenition might seem satisfactory enough, if one were to think of the true cause, the true intend of being a vegitarian, the whole view bounces out of the confinement of the above defenition. if the intend is, (as in most cases), to avoid killing, or distruction of any lifeform, then the cunsumption of food granes will have the same effects as that of an egg, right? (both are embryos, waiting to give rise to a new life.) then a strict vegetarian must confine him/herself to a diet involving pland parts like fruits, roots, leaves and the like? and above all these, lies the age old questian of the dairy products. are those truely veg?so, what do you think?URL: http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.php?pid=169941#p169941

hi.First of all,i am excited to be one of the winners in swamp competition.I have responded to sneaks email. Thanks alexander very much.About that weapon program, i like to see armur protection aded to that to. And if updating this file for next release isnt possible at this time, i think updating it and putting its link in the first post like swamp language file could be grate. And for the final thing, i have a request for swamp players who are good at creating campaigns to do a favour and creat a campaign that symulate the multiplayer aspect of swamp. Because now the only way to try swamp free of charge is by using offline mode which lacs lots of multiplayer features like leveling, upgrading character, buying and donating items etc. This helps new players to try the symulated version of multiplayer of swamp before buying an account.URL: http://forum.audiogames.net

Re: [Audiogames-reflector] vegetarianism- your views?

2014-03-24 Thread AudioGames.net Forum — Off-topic room: tward

Re: vegetarianism- your views?

Chandu, as far as my views goes I consider vegetarianism is principally of consuming foods that come from plants such as roots, leaves, stocks, fruits, grains, etc. Basically, any part of a plant that can be safely consumed by a human being. I dont really consider dairy products as being vegetarian in nature because that comes from cows, goats, etc and I dont consider eggs vegetarian either because those come from ducks, chickens, and geese. As to the issue of avoiding the destruction of any life form then you are going to find that is pretty much unavoidable no matter what you eat regardless if it comes from a plant or an animal. Fruits carry the seeds required for that plant to reproduce so if you happily munch down on an orange, apple, grape, etc you are in a sense killing the plants young. You can minimize this by saving and planting the seeds, but most people dont do that. If you cut down a celery plant to eat its stocks you are once again killin
g that plant to eat its stocks. If you dig up a carrot or onion to eat it you are once again killing the plant because carrots and onions are a vital part of that plants root system. Eating its roots is going to kill the plant. Grains like wheat, oats, etc are a part of a plants reproductive system so once again we are back to eating the plants young.Point being, if you are adopting vegetarianism out of some altruistic sense not to kill life be it fish, cows, sheep, fowl, etc then you havent considered the fact that we kill plants all the time in order to eat their seeds, roots, stocks, and so forth. Unless a person is willing to starve to death taking life in order to survive is all a part of the natural order of things. Every animal in the world does it so I think adopting a vegetarian diet should be done out of health benefits not because someone is squeamish about killing a cow for hamburger or turning a chicken in to chicken filets.URL: http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.php?pid=169949#p169949

Re: vegetarianism- your views?

As I understood the terminology the principle difference between vegitarian and vegan was that people on a vegitarian diet can eat those products derived from an animal that did not mean the death of that animal, eg milk and dairy products, and according to some definitions eggs (sinse some vegitarians such as Peter singer do not considder the potential Embryo of a chicken, duck etc to be a living animal).A person on a Vegan diet however refuses to eat anything even vaguely derived from animals, so a vegan pretty much lives on plants.I dont say I agree with either of these positions personally these are just the definitions Ive read. Personally while I do not like the idea of eating meet derived through unnecessary suffering of a sentient animal, eg, battery farming, use of tethers etc and try to by free range when I can (though I cant always), Im not intrins
ically against eating meet itself, sinse practically humans need protein and there are ei eight essential amino acid groups that can only be derived from animals and a very few plants.URL: http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.php?pid=169972#p169972

Re: Swamp, zombie fps by Aprone

JDrenth, Mehgcaps armor description might answer your question. When it comes to skill points, each time you level you can type /reset to reset your skill points. You can do this on the older version of Swamp also.CAE Jones, it would give you the same not using the same version message.LOL SLJ!Michael Pyron, everyone with a new account will begin with no characters, and they are allowed to create up to 5. After you create a new character you can type /import name password to import the data from an old character you have. When you import, it brings over the levels, experience, hardcore status, skill points, and inventory. What it does not do is import the actual character name, which means you can use this to continue using some old character with a new name.Lots of people have asked me to explain the importing thing with new names, so Ill do my best to explain it so that it makes sen
se. Lets assume I have a character named Aprone on the old Swamp server, who is level 500. When the server changes over and I have an account, I begin with no characters. So I want to have my Aprone character back, but maybe I would rather have him named Potatohead. I create a new character named Potatohead, then I type /import Aprone password. Password would be the old password used on the Aprone character. Now when I log back in, I see I have a character named Potatohead, and he is now level 500 with all of the items and points that my old Aprone guy had. So I still get to use my old character but Ive managed to give him a new name.If I didnt want to use a different name, I would have just created a character named Aprone, and used the /import Aprone command. I hope that makes sense. You can only import a character once, and also you can only import onto a character that has not leveled up yet. So if I
already imported my old Aprone character, I cant import it again onto a new character. Without this rule, people could have 5 copies of their most powerful old character! I also have to do my import before I start running around leveling up. So if I had made my Potatohead guy and leveled him up to level 2, it would not have let me use the /import command to import Aprone. Imports only work with fresh new characters that are still level 1.URL: http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.php?pid=169981#p169981

You guys are silly Right now Im working on some armor tweaks to make it work out better for lower level characters. I still need to fix a spot on one of the warehouse maps that is causing the zombie AI to get stuck. The breaking fence on that same map needs adjusting. The AK apparently still makes an out of ammo click if it is loaded while youre using the bayonet, so I need to fix that. The question has come up among myself and some testers, should the server sponsor messages be removed now that Swamp is going to be paid? I have to decide on that and possibly remove it if thats what I decide to do. And lastly I still need to write up the gamer account thing and add in an resend activation email option on the webpage.I believe thats all thats left, but then again some of these things were spot

I think sponsor messages should stay. After all, the $24 fee is not really paying for anything more than the taxes and whatnot inherent in setting up a payment system, Aprone is making pretty much nothing from it to put towards his development efforts. Therefore, sponsors are still important and should still be recognized. I can see why that happened--it is a good game, and they were a supporter. The two people who told me to post this in the new games area were refering to this topic, suggesting that it be moved to the new releases area, because they think it says I made a new game, although they didnt read it carefully enough before jumping to that conclusion. And there are supporters, and I thank them and are greatful they even take interest in what Im creating. But, even though I can see why youd think that, post 22, and 16, were not supporting my game. They were telling me to move it somewhere else.URL: htt

The bigger guns are good for sweeping a lot of zombies away. The smaller guns are good for dealing with small groups, and with the bump in rep/xp for using the sport rifles, and the clothing making them and the Browning faster to use, these have a purpose. Frankly the AR15 and its cousins seem to be the redheaded stepchildren, too loud to use in close quarters, not sufficiently deadly to justify their loudness and with no cool tweaks. (Note that Ive not have the opportunity to use a bayonet on the m16 and the AK47, so I dont know how special this is, but the others dont have even this.) Can anyone suggest to me the r

There may be reasons why a player might not wish to have his/her identity spread across Swamp when they log in/out, particularly with the friends feature and multiple characters. I can construct a scenario where a player wishes to play under multiple IDs because perhaps one has been the target of harassment or malicious amusement by others. That player may not wish to have the linkage drawn between multiple characters with the friends feature. This should perhaps be an option given to each player on the main menu to toggle on or off multiple character identification through the friends feature, or at least give players a /block command that prevents another player from friending the first player, like FB has.Sorry, I know this is a feature request late in the game, and its

They did so out of the conviction that it was a good thing to do.Clarification about mission rep rewards: If I read things correctly, the standard rep reward for a mission would have the amount of reputation/food given by all players added to it. If I understand this correctly, for example, a mission with a 10,000 rep reward that four players sign up for would have an actual rep reward of 14,000 if the cost were 1,000 to join. In principle, this prevents missions from ever being a net loss. Does the reward remain if not all participants survive? In other words in my previous example, if one player dies during the mission, do the remaining three still divide 14,000 or do they divide 13,000? Does the mission initiator count toward the reward total; would a solo in the above situati
on be worth 11,000 or 10,000? Does this increase the incentive to recruit lots of players, then kick some off for the increased reward? Of course that incentive exists now and Im not opposed to the way this works, just curious about your game design decision process.I have been wondering about the usefulness of the guns under the assault rifle category. Since weapons dont break, and points are resettable every level, is there any reason to hold on to or use multiple weapons of a given class? With shotguns, I can now see the special usefulness of the browning, along with its greater damage but smaller capacity, it has a better scatter mode. But for most classes, I cant see ever using anything but the best weapon in class you have. People are going to hate me, but I think Id like to see weapon destruction return, perhaps the same way armor works, with a small chance of damaging the weapon and a higher chance if you go below 75%.finally, Id like to put a thought out there. Arc, heres the thing with the paid system. It is *not* paying for the costs of the game - that price would be way higher. The $2 per month price is as low as Aprone can possibly go before he *loses* money on the deal, so paying is not helping to support him much at all. Therefore, donors are still important, and so should still be honored. Plus, as TMV said, they donated in the past, before this new system. Their donations helped get the game to where it is now, so why not continue to thank them in this small way?URL: http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.php?pid=170013#p170013

Aloha, the old characters will be around forever (or for the foreseeable future). Just make sure you dont forget your old characters password if you will want to import it later. DD, I have boosted the AK bayonets speed a bit since that last change log was posted. It is not as fast as it used to be when it was bugged, but it is faster than the M16 bayonet again.TheMadViolinist, the join price is indeed added to the mission prize pot. If a player dies, the prize pot does not lower. If 10 people joined a mission that cost 100, then 1000 points are added to the pot. The survivors of the mission divide up the final pot meaning they all get back their join cost in addition to extra. If players die during the mission, the survivors end up splitting the join cost from those dead comrades. It wasnt in the la
st change log, but weapons do break again. I fixed that bug.I like your idea of being able to opt out of being added to friends lists, but it will likely be something I figure out for later. Originally the friends list worked on individual characters, but it was found to be annoying when you had to keep track as friends made new characters. The conveniences of having it account based, do introduce a few down sides for people who want privacy. I will keep this suggestion in mind. Most of my list of things to do have been solved. For everyone else, Im happy to say that, as promised, the next update will contain an HTML version of the readme file! You can open this in your web browser, and move by headings, links, lists, or whatever you want. Ive also included in-page links for places that say read this section, so you can jump right to the section in question. The only thing Im not sure of is the multi5 description. If anyone has explored that map thoroughly and wants to provide a detailed description, Id welcome it. Im not looking for something that explains where each store is or gives exact coordinates, just something so someone new to the map can have an idea of the layout.Speaking of multi5, Aprone, is that a sub map or a multi map
? I ask because only sub maps have injury loot, but in 3.1 multi5 had those items too. In 3.2, will it still have them, or are the Shootout Zones enough danger? The reason the Aaron and Nicky voices arent available anywhere else is that to my knowledge they have been developped by nuance exclusively for apple. There are a few dat files in them that specifically mention Siri. Unsurprisingly, Apple being apple kept this a big secret. Of course, the jailbreak for iOS 7 eventually came out, at which point it was just a matter of finding the folder which contained the voice data. Same thing goes for getting them to work with Voiceover. Re: I'm making a new game, but have a question

My post was perhaps too harsh. I do however stand by the information contained within, and will not be deleting it. I do not believe in attempting to edit out my mistakes from the past, as theyre never really gone anyway and, should it turn up, I just look more stupid. At the moment, I do not disagree with any part of my post, but believe I may have conveyed the wrong impression. I have no problem at all with you as a programmer or a person, and understand that this is a first project. Believe it or not, I believe you will be successful. On the one hand, I could simply give you small bits of information and state the problems I see as they come up. This never really finishes conveying the information I see, and doesnt help anyone improve (and it is possible for the person stating the problems to learn something, as the person who is writing the software may have a novel solution-and this solution may be something never done bef
ore anywhere).I can cross-link a thread from 2007 or so, back from before I discovered spelling or programming, wherein I wanted to start a mud. People decided to side-step around the core issues because I was a new programmer. If someone had come out and said This may not work because of x, y, z, and w (in order lack of spelling, lack of programming ability, lack of dedicated server, lack of the ability to even compile it myself), I would have saved a bunch of wasted time during which I never learned anything. It might have caused me to get mad--at that point, I wasnt used to having discussions about programs and plans for writing them as opposed to the people behind those programs or plans--but it would have at least let me see the problems and, once I got over the initial indignation, ask questions about them. In a way, I think this would have been more likely to have lead me to a working Mud in the long run. If I could someho
 w time travel, Id give myself a similar post about spelling, compilation, and what C is. I posted post 16 because it is my belief that you can benefit from it, not because I am out to get you or anything of the sort (if I think the author of a thread on programming cant benefit from anything I have to say, I dont post. My goal is not demoralization.). My goal is successful programmers; I work towards this goal by conveying information on current problems and points of improvement as I see them.I do want to elaborate on luck/skill, however: the skill required to win a card game increases with increasing information and rules, i.e. Uno which requires managing a whole hand of cards, colors (in some variants), points (in some variants), the ability to directly penalize your opponent at will. There is probably some algorithm (for the purpose of discussion, call it A) which will solve Uno, giving all players the best outcome possible;
A is far too complex for most if not all Humans to memorize. What we do is replace A with skill at the game-those parts of A which we have managed to work out, plus the fact that other human players may be bluffed and manipulated by your knowledge of them. Note that in this case A is probably not easily programmed and is probably an AI problem. Is there an element of luck with Uno? Yes. But luck is not necessarily the most major determining factor in my ability to win. Trash may not have this problem, but by your explanation in post 14, it does. Googling Trash turns up, as the most common variant, a version for 5 year olds; perhaps it is possible to extend it and perhaps I am misunderstanding the rules (and yours add at least one thing that makes the game longer), But if you havent, extended it or Im not misunderstanding my solution should work while remaining simple enough for pretty much anyone to memorize. There is a card game
called War. It is the perfect example of the other end of the spectrum. You have literally no choices. You win if the card gods favor you. You lose if they dont. War was fun for about 3 weeks when i was in 5th grade, and then me and everyone who I was playing it with all saw this (oddly, all around the same time; maybe this says something about mental development?). I then started trying to invent variations, unsuccessfully unfortunately. Therefore, I assert the following:Skill (card games): both the amount of informational content that must be managed to remain within the rules, and the number of possible actions one can take at any given time. I would say that this maps closely to the complexity of the algorithm a computer would need to always play optimally.Fun (all games): The net enjoyment gained from playing the game. I cant map this to computer science, as computers have no concept of fun (if only I
could run the funchecker on my code...).Skill increases increase the age of the target audience with the max probably somewhere around 20 or 30, as increasing age allows one to manage more information and think further. Changing required skill

Re: Goodbye Windows XP, i still get nistalgic over you.

Well, I have done some experimentation with the time limited Windows XP virtual machines downloadable from modern.ie.And if it is of interest to anyone, here is what I have found so far.The virtual machines are available for different virtualization software including Virtualbox, VMWare and Virtual PC.The interesting part here is that the disk images are of VMDK type but in stream optimized format meaning that you cant mount or edit them directly. But what you can do is converting them with VMWares Virtual Disk Manager.vmware-vdiskmanager -r input.vmdk -t 0 output.vmdkNow wait one moment for the conversion process to complete.Mount or open the new image output.vmdk and look inside. There is the familiar root folder structure i.e Windows, Program Files, Documents and settings. You may now use Winmount, Winimage or another virtual machine to inject NVDA or another screen reader. The activation clock does n
ot count until the virtual machine itself has been powered on for the first time so you might just save the clean image before booting the first time.So now you can use Windows XP forever without activation, cracks or wasting your genuine product key.Hope that this solution helps someone.URL: http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.php?pid=170025#p170025

Oh, can you let me know what the accurate armor numbers are, so that you wont have to fix my armor example every time I send a new file in? Thanks.URL: http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.php?pid=170029#p170029

Mehgcap that could work.I discovered that the account system is not happy with a whole slew of foreign characters. Ive spent the past hour battling with Unicode support, and I appear to be losing the battle. Ill keep trying because I dont really want to have a big list of unsupported characters. That could really mess people up. Imagine if the English letters U and T didnt work in character names. That would suck, so I dont want to do that same thing to other people.URL: http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.php?pid=170028#p170028

Re: Swamp, zombie fps by Aprone

Armor can only instantly break if your health is below 75%. This is the same as in 3.1. The only difference is that weapons would not break in 3.1 even though they were supposed to.Armor can be damaged (with a 0.1% chance) regardless of your health. Damaging armor is not the same as breaking it. When items break they are instantly gone. Damaged items still exist, but offer less protection.Good plan. Here are what the values should be. + Head armor: 15% + Shoulder armor: 16% + Chest armor: 25% + Waist armor: 12% + Leg armor: 20% + Foot armor: 12%URL: http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.php?pid=170030#p170030

The activation clock does n
ot count until the virtual machine itself has been powered on for the first time so you can just save the clean preboot state as snapshot and start over again before the end of the 30 days. Now you can use Windows XP forever without activation, cracks or wasting your genuine product key.Hope that this solution helps someone.URL: http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.php?pid=170025#p170025

Oh. And mind you, that I didnt mean that I was done programming by the last post--no, sQuad, my software company, will continue to spin out projects. But Im afraid that, though he may have good intentions, if Camlorn continues to point out flaws in this project, I will begin to realize that there happens to be no point in it, and discontinue it.URL: http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.php?pid=170032#p170032

[Audiogames-reflector] Some Mac Questions

2014-03-24 Thread AudioGames.net Forum — Off-topic room: Guitarman

Some Mac Questions

Hi everyone.I just got my new macbook pro and I am having trouble getting it started. The setup worked fine until I got to the snapshot part. Voiceover asked if I wanted to take a snapshot for security and I declined. After that the computer froze. I tried to go back but it wouldnt let me. I tried shutting voiceover off then turning it back on again and it didnt work. Can someone help me with this? Also just one more question. Im interested in making games for ios and im wondering how you transfer games to an ios device. Do I compile it on the mac and it will automatically transfer to ios or can I compile a script on the device to run it there?URL: http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.php?pid=170033#p170033

Re: I'm making a new game, but have a question

The project thus far looks interesting. My initial project involved pressing the space bar in a programming language, and marveling at my ability to produce audio output. I wouldnt allow yourself to become discouraged on that front. Using NVDA as an output is fine, however for larger games Id recommend attempting to find a solution that can incorporate Sapi at least. A potential solution for this kind of cardgame be readable texts listing the status of the game in progress, or some form of event text box history thing.URL: http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.php?pid=170034#p170034
