I am using windows xp sp3, and I have even disabled and uninstalled my antivirus and firewall software, and yet it still tells me after it downloads the zip file that it cannot find the needed text files author.txt or settings.txt in the map packs folder.

@whocrazy, Did you manually copy map packs into the game folder?Or have you been using the in game map pack downloader?Are you launching the game with a desktop shortcut, or running TacticalBattle.exe directly?Try a fresh unzipping of the game and only using the in game map pack downloader, and launching TacticalBattle.exe directly.If those things dont work then Id like to see the current state of your Tactical Battle folder.If you can zip it up and give me a dropbox or sendspace link to download it that would work.

AudioQuake Beta Release

Its been a long time since I made an official release announcement about AudioQuake, and Im still not tired of doing it. Matt (the leading coder and other half of the project) has put together and finalised the working executables for both Mac and Windows (7+, Im awfully sorry XP users, Ill try and get to you, eventually …) that include the game launcher and modernised engine that we have been using for a while now. Other than that, the project is essentially unchanged from our last release, although with the new TTS stub and restored video renderer we will expect that you will notice some differences in the way that it operates. We have not yet addressed any particular grievances with gameplay, and to be honest--because weve got to be honest--the game is now of mostly historical interest, and LDL is probably of more immediate interest to new tinkerers, and is as yet not included. This is clearly beta; the first thing you will need to do is allow the Windows firewall access to the game in the modal window which appears (without speech feedback). Still, please, have a blast, frag away, and enjoy yourselves. And if you have feedback or bug reports, post them to our Google group (or just here, if youre lazy, although Ill have to manually enter them for Matt to see them). Frag this way for your copy of the AudioQuake beta.

Moderation!  A couple of people have engaged in offtopic posting here, ie, just asking an unrelated question. Remember, if your post has nothing to do with what was previously in the topic and reads like a new question, it probably needs its own thread, I know we were discussing Ios games here but I feel some of the shifts in discussion have been a bit abrupt to warrent being in the same topic,  really there is no reason not to start a new one. @Rori, Im afraid I cant help you on Ios 8. I specifically have waited to upgrade until several bugs are fixed, Ive heard of this vo bug you mention and am waiting until it is solved myself. Im still running Ios 7, and intend to do so until I can be sure most or all of the kinks are worked out of 8, and on 7 all the Choiceof games Ive played have been fine.

Did you by mistake turn off the internet in the notifications center? its possible to do this (Ive used it to save battery on occasion), but obviously you need it reconnecting. Does it say 3g or 4g, or wifi in the notifications area?

Its something you get used to, and its not so much about hearing a dog as just being understanding. Dogs are more than capable of communicatingg if you pay attention.However bad it ends up being, I will say its worth it in the end, indeed Reever is currently curled up on my feet as Im lyingg on the settee with my wireless keyboard, so yes, definitely worth it.

I used the in game map pack downloader and I am running the program directly in a folder. Everything else works fine, I just cant download the map successfully.I mean, the file downloads and when it gets to 100% I get the error about the missing text files.I unzip the game into c:\battle.

I see. Yesterday, I heard the super awesome 3d audiodrama The Mist written by Stephen King. [[wow]], this audiodrama is awesome, and really scary!  But well, some of the characters are as you describe, and most of the story is happening in one building... Just like if this building was the whole world. Lol. But anyway, a nice, extremely scary and weird ending story, which Ill highly recommend if you can grab the audiodrama somewhere.

King as I said does have a tendency to almost the opposite of the Koontz style niceness, given the amount of his characters who ar alcoholics, or drug adicts, or embezle money, or have cheat on their wives/husbands, indulge in abusive relationships or whatever, although I never found this quite as bad as the opposite tendency, because evenif King does have seemy characters they have more to them and there are at least some vaguely normal people in their too. Heck, King occasionally raids the American dream family flanders style character box too, look at the amount of old neighbors he have who turn out to be goood ol buddies of the main character, however as I said King does balance things quite a lot, and he doesnt tend to crank up the nicy nicy too far the way someone like Koontz seems to. I have heard good things about the Mist audio drama, so Ill definitely bare 
 that in mind, although as I said inmonthly chat Im very much in sf mode at the moment.

4 extra has got as far as relative dimension, rather entertaining. It was nice having the throwback to Susan even though Ive never seen any of the episodes with her in. The bit at the end about the doctor deleting all but one room from the holding ring is interesting, the obvious answer would be Alexs room since hell eventually inherit the tardis but since he has no personal posessions on the tardis I strongly suspect it was Tamzins room in case the doctor manages to pry her away from the Monk. Of course youll already know the answer to this most likely Dark, grin.

Hi,Just chiming in again with something that happened this morning (I know this topics more about life in general, but I just wanted to tell this story.)I heard a new song that I put on my android, it was a japanese tune. Well, I really liked the drum pattern to it. I knew what I wanted to do.I went into the spare bedroom to find that my drum kit was still set up! I also found the Bluetooth speaker I used back when I was having lessons. Well the speaker was set up for my iPhone, but thats OK, theres a 3.5 jack on it.Well I opened the draw to find a patch cable. I tried plugging it into my Samsung phone. Guess what? It wouldnt fit! So I tried for a minute or so to see if I could get it to fit, luckily, nothing broke. Well, the result was that I just gave up, put the cable away.But I wasnt going to lose that easily, I really, really wanted to give this a shot.So I just thought aah to heck with it, and turned on the Bl
 utooth.Well, I played that vocaloid synth song that I found. I then found my playlist with stuff from the my little pony soundtrack and thought, aah come on, Im here I might as well try.So I played a few of those. Then i ended up moving to the rhythm heaven soundtrack. Well, needless to say I found a track I liked and ended up playing, in the end, 6 or so tracks from the second set of stages that you unlock when you beat stage 6, the post game if you will. Then I moved to the wii soundtrack and played the track from stage 6-01, the one where you have to launch rockets. I went nuts, as its a marching piece, so I could really go for it on the snare.Of course, due to the recent release, I had to give some super smash bros tracks a play. Well i dont know how many I played. I just... drummed to whatever I could find in the soundtrack, one of them was very cool as it started off sort of a pop piece then went reggae style, so it was quite hilarious, I fo
 rgot about the reggae section.Then I finally went back to that vocaloid song that Id played earlier to end on, Im glad I didnt bring the house crashing down, I had to maintain control as I was getting rather loud with the hits.Finally, I was done. I was really excited and happy.I felt next to me, grabbed my phone, put the rods away (I didnt use sticks as they are too loud for the small room), I then realized that what was meant to be one song had turned into an hour long solo jam.Then, after all that, I realized that I forgot to bring my olympus in to record it! All I can say is, how ironic. Oh sure, I can do a session again and record it, but seriously, theres nothing like a random, completely impromptu session. Its a shame I wont have anything to remember it by accept this post, but to end on a happy note, that was possibly the most rediculous and impromptu thing to happen this month so far, and it was an absolute b

His problem was that the players position variable was being incremented thousands of times a second. You could use a wait() function, or you could check your results against a timer. A wait function will basically hault execution of the program however until the wait period end.

sorry to say, but those sounds are crap, pack 1 is missing. those sounds were from original quake. please improve the sounds!

That unit dying and getting attacked thing got fixed I think in version 2. Upgrading to version 10 of the parser is better because thats what new flags will be based off in the future (like script flags those are v10 only) I think, and it also makes it easier to read in some cases.

Hi guys,Im relatively new to Linux in general-Im currently using vinux...A question for you guys: Im attempting to install gcc and g++-3.3 and 3.4...I cant seem to find the correct sources to add to sources.list--it may just be the way that Im looking at it.I was recommended to use the snapshots.debian.org and Im just wondering if you guys have any tips for installing these through dpkg?Thanks for any helpDaniel

Yep, I saw the review yesterday, very nice. I dont know what you mean by magazine Thereused to be the audeasy magazine that went out monthly but there hasnt been an issue in about 7 years or so, indeed that was part of the point of setting up the articles room that people could write articles of the sort that used to be in audeasy, reviews, walkthrus, serious discussions etc, and there would still be a place for people to go and read them. I will however put a link to your review on the Db entry for papasangre two as I did with Quasars.

yes I wish we could play online against and with friends. like I could be the good and an online friend could be the enemy. or you could do team player. hey this would be perfect! in tacticle battles3 online play where either 1. you are good and your friend is the enemy or 2. you do team play with a dota2 mod where you and a friend or some friends team up and make towns or towers at the bottom of the map and the enemy team makes towers and recruits archers and dragons and things at the top of the same map and then you all go at it all out war! oh and how about a call of duty map or lord of the rings, or how to train your dragon, or power rangers. in power rangers for example the command center is your base at bottom left of the map you start out as human. you fight putties and then you get to upgrade and become a power ranger with basic powers. then you upgrade to the other kinds of power rangers. and once you get so much experience you can then get zords and megazords and things.
  I love tacticle battle and I wish I would have tried it out earlier! Oh, and you could even do a deer hunting mod where your hunting cabin is base and you recruit archers and guys with guns to shoot deer which would be the enemy in that game.

Yep, Susan and the Doctor meeting is an example of how to do emotional character stuff with he Doctor right, though I dont know if it would have as much impact if you didnt know as much about who Susan is. I havent seen that many original first doctor stories, but Ive read some of the audio books (including Dalek invasion of earth where Susan leaves the Doctor), and Ive also heard a lot of Big finishs companion chronicles some of which feature Susan, indeed the fish creature from quinis is actually a call back to one of the companion stories.  Another rather amusing and interesting fact is that Alex is played by Paul Mcgans son, who I believe is also called Alex, then Doctor who has always had some whacky casting and at least Bf admited that one was rather deliberate, where as the Bbc trying to maintain that the Doctors Daughter from the episode of the same name being played by the Daughter of Peter Davison was a 
 coincidence! What I also find entertaining is shes now marriedto David tenant, so you had a situation where the genetic clone of the tenth doctor was married to the tenth Doctor while being walked down the isle by the fifth doctor! [[wow]], Freud wouldve had a field day with that one . I actually found Relative time quite appropriate when I heard it sinse I was listening to all the 8th doctor adventures over Christmas of 2012, so that was a nice bit of timing and far more fun than the Christmas special on tv.

Hi,Just chiming in again with something that happened this morning (I know this topics more about life in general, but I just wanted to tell this story.)I heard a new song that I put on my android, it was a japanese tune. Well, I really liked the drum pattern to it. I knew what I wanted to do.I went into the spare bedroom to find that my drum kit was still set up! I also found the Bluetooth speaker I used back when I was having lessons. Well the speaker was set up for my iPhone, but thats OK, theres a 3.5 jack on it.Well I opened the draw to find a patch cable. I tried plugging it into my Samsung phone. Guess what? It wouldnt fit! So I tried for a minute or so to see if I could get it to fit, luckily, nothing broke. Well, the result was that I just gave up, put the cable away.But I wasnt going to lose that easily, I really, really wanted to give this a shot.So I just thought aah to heck with it, and turned on the Bl
 utooth.Well, I played that vocaloid synth song that I found. However, thats when thigns got interesting.Well, I was in the music app. I think you guys know whats coming. I moved all over the library, and thought, aah come on, Im here I might as well try.So I played a few tracks from my party playlist. Then i ended up moving to the rhythm heaven soundtrack. Well, needless to say I found a track I liked and ended up playing, in the end, 6 or so tracks from the second set of stages that you unlock when you beat stage 6, the post game if you will. Then I moved to the rhythm heaven fever wii soundtrack and played the track from stage 6-01, the one where you have to launch rockets. I went nuts, as its a marching piece, so I could really go for it on the snare.Of course, due to the recent release, I had to give some super smash bros tracks a play. Well i dont know how many I played. I just... drummed to whatever I could find in th
 e soundtrack, one of them was very cool as it started off sort of a pop piece then went reggae style, so it was quite hilarious, I forgot about the reggae section.Then I finally went back to that vocaloid song that Id played earlier to end on, Im glad I didnt bring the house crashing down, I had to maintain control as I was getting rather loud with the hits.Finally, I was done. I was really excited and happy.I felt next to me, grabbed my phone, put the rods away (I didnt use sticks as they are too loud for the small room), I then realized that what was meant to be one song had turned into an hour long solo jam.Then, after all that, I realized that I forgot to bring my olympus in to record it! All I can say is, how ironic. Oh sure, I can do a session again and record it, but seriously, theres nothing like a random, completely impromptu session. Its a shame I wont have anything to remember it by accept this post, but to
  end on a happy note, that was possibly the most rediculous and impromptu thing to happen this month so far, and it was an absolute blast!

Sighted people seem to be really liking Vox and from what Ive reqad about it it looks very good indeed. However, its not very accessible - lots of unlabeled controls, but more importantly the list for your playlist and library is inaccessible. They did say at one point to someone on Twitter theyd look into VO support. Might need to give them a bump about that but Ill probably wait for Yosemite to go public as it has simplified Accessibility APIs first.

And this, my friends, is precisely why Im still playing. I have a set of complaints with the system, a couple of things that annoy me, but the feature list is such that I can just look the other way for the most part. Today, I had my engines shot out from under me, which made moving my aircraft anywhere impossible. Its realistic, but theres nothing you can do at present when your ships only means of constant propulsion is damaged beyond repair. For the record, it was during a mission and given that Im new at it I suppose that in itself was a risk, but I completed the mission nonetheless and was left with an inoperable engine, which meant not getting anywhere with the ship. Unfortunately, I havent an idea on how to deal with such a Chrisis, else Id suggest it, but in all reality, its not as important as the rest of the game being functional and full of exciting things to do.Another thing I hope wil
 l be looked at is that at current aside from debris salvaging there isnt much for new players to do, and it stays that way as far as I can tell until you reach status 3. Debris salvaging itself is not the problem, so much as that it becomes rather tedious and monotonous for some people. Usually I tend to keep myself distracted with other things while Im salvaging to make the process go by a bit faster, but it is rather boring on its own. Nothing really changes; youre flitting around a sector collecting stuff, or searching sectors to try and find the best source from which to collect debris otherwise.then there is the amount of information that isnt available. The help manuals are very well put together and I have no complaint with them at all; no, its the stuff that isnt obvious that bothers me. A fair amount of it I know now, but unless youre around when the information is divulged your stuck guessing or
  asking other members and there doesnt seem to be any method by which one can access it, making it almost mandatory that you remember everything of this nature on the spot. If you are told where you can obtain missions when you sign up youd better remember how to go about it or ask someone familiar with that bit of information. if you dont know where a certain upgrade is sold youre left at the mercy of the player base which, while good and generous is not the thing everyone wishes to turn to, sometimes because people feel like they might annoy other players in doing so, sometimes just because people like to feel resourceful or play on their own without having to interact with others.As I stated above, minor annoyances, slight irritations, most of which I dont think about regularly because Im too busy exploring the scope of what this thing has become. To see something on this scale is refreshing. Just when I believed 
 Miriani was going to be my only source of space entertainment I am pleasantly surprised.

I hope today is super special and magical for you. I cant remember what, if anything, I wrote in this thread earlier.I was worried about breaking my dog. Would she hate me? Would she not want to have anything to do with me? Im completely blind as well, and grew up with mostly cats, and a few smaller dogs. The only interactions Id had with bigger dogs were friends guides. But I absolutely love animals all to pieces. I just hoped she would love me back.She spent the first day sitting by the door, crying and crying for my instructor. I put her in her crate so I could shower that night, and I heard her crying, so I sang and talked to her so she wouldnt be sad. I can remember sitting on the cold floor right by my door, petting this black lab, talking to her, singing to her, and nothing worked. She wouldnt play, wouldnt come away from that door. I was stranger danger, and she was not happy.The first few guiding sessions were ha
 rd. She moved like a snail, and I thought, Man, is it always going to be this big of a hastle to get her to walk faster? I was ready to get down and plead with her. The first little bit, she looked to my trainer for praise and direction. There was definitely a transition period before she started looking to me.One day, near the end of training, we were doing something with chairs. In the large open room of the training center was me, my class partner, our instructor, and another instructor who wasnt in that rotation. He had a dog in training just hanging out. I think he held onto my dog so I could check something out; I dont exactly remember. I was gone away, across the room from my girl for a few minutes, and she cried for me. She stared at me. When I came back to get her, she jumped up and wagged, so happy to see me. That was one of the best feelings in the world; finally knowing she accepted me as hers.The best advice I can give you is just to 
 relax. Its not a test to pass or fail. Its not a one-shot deal, and if you mess up, youre done. Its progress, and its learning, so just be open to it all. Try to blow away any expectations of what it should, or will be like. Just take it one moment at a time. Leave yourself and your mind open to accept and receive. I know that sounds new-age hippy, but its how I approached training. Reading my girl through the harness just came to me. I dont know when or how it happened. It will take time for your relationship to grow, so just let it do its thing, and keep us updated.

It can actually matter quite a bit. the more complex the game, the more it matters. For example when youre playing blast chamber it wont matter much but if you play a large map with many units in tactical battle and you have a slow processor, the battle report will take a while to generate.If you want to play more complex games, I would also go for an i5. Also take a look at the number of cores and the speed (ghz) of the processor. a dual core processor at 2.5 ghz should be enough.

Hay Aaron that is cool! I need to get the soundtrack to the new smash brothers, as I have both previous ones and still love hearing tunes from my favourite games like Kirby and Metroid remixed, even if I cant actualy play smashbros myself like I can some of the original games in the series. I didnt know you were a drummer, the session sounds cool and while Ive not particularly had that experience with music and recording, Ive definitely been in that position vocally where I just hit something that happened to be amazing for a short blast and dont know quite why. Ill also add that actually, monthly chat is supposed to be about life and what is going on generally including random fun stuff (or in my case with the not so great sf convention, not fun stuff), so feel free to report any incidents or interesting stuff, its just supposed to be a sort of casual chat topic, or such is the idea anyway.

Hey Dan_C, if you have a GBA emulator, Ruby or Sapphire would be a good game to start with. I find them fairly easy to navigate and there are sounds for lots of things such as moving around menus, some of which werent present in the games before them, while not yet having touch screen headaches like many games after them.Invites to both of you coming up momentarily.

[[wow]] Cinnamon that sounds hard. I had similar experiences with Reever as I said, although ironically the thing that started to solve things was me getting her to do something which her trainer definitely didnt approve of, climb on my bed with me as I was just lying down reading an audio book (by staggering irony it was Robin Hobbs Assassins apprentice). She initially found the idea weerd and just looked at me, then she jumped up and setled down and that was what started it. I think for her, being so close when I was perfectly relaxed playing core exiles with my wireless keyboard or reading a book was what she needed, just the idea that there was someone around she needed to be close to. With the Guiding, funnily enough that was the easy part, or at least I was able to recognize that all the mistakes were just matters of muscles that would be no trouble to solve with time, then again Reever is such a gentle dog commands werent a 
 problem, as opposed to the emotional bit. So, yes, time is what is needed, and dont give up! I confess there were points I nearly did, especially sinse because literally the week before I started training my light opera society with whom Id done five years of productions changed directors and got someone who objected to the disability thing, so I wasnt feeling great to start with. with Reever though it worked out fine and now wed definitely not be separated, indeed as I said she is still quite anxious about being left.

Hi all and TreseBrothers,I like this new CK update, however I have two problems.There are still some unlabeled buttons on the hud that are after the group of buttons. They are also on the computer screen, status, etc.Another problem which is making it impossible to continue the story is that I cant call Luca. I got to the data terminal, but clicking computer, PDA, and under phone book, Luka Porsh, tapping it does nothing. Neither does tapping phone book. Talkback doesnt see it as a button, just text, if that helps.

We dont have stuff for everything for ruby and safire. For example, as of now, you wont get directions from town to town or through caves, but you can probably get through a lot of it on your own, as long as you read a mainstream walkthrough to help you recognize where your at as you play.

You dont need any special objects to engrave, its an upgrade.3. Fiona is an amazing doggy! that is all!I got her this morning. The trainer was really nice, and so was the dog! As soon as she came to the house she was jumping on me and really excited.We hung out in my room for a while and she was great; She didnt really listen to my commands at first though.When we got her on the harness, she did really well. We actually did some grocery store work, which the trainer says hes never done before on the first day. Right now fifi as Ive started calling her is on my bed relaxing. Im kinda excited to work tomorrow!

No, not really, not for Audiogames.Processor is kind of odd now. The truth is that processors are no longer the limiting factor in your computer: we can execute x instructions a second, but only get y amount of data to the processor in a second. Y is much less than x, and so it usually ends up waiting on your RAM. This is less true of a certain type of application, but audiogames arent that certain type.So basically, dont *just* get the best processor. You want faster RAM and an SSD if you can get it. Id not say that the processor matters much for Audiogames, but it definitely matters for everyday use. Just, not so much without the other hardware to back it up, too. Faster RAM and an SSD will make as much if not more of a difference.

Thee thing is that yesterday i were playing swamp and some good friends invited me to join up in a teamtalk cannel. [[wow]],glad that this toppick came back. Right now im just impressed for myself. Yay, yay. The thing is that yesterday i were playing swamp and some good friends invited me to join up in a teamtalk channel. Now, remember, english is not my first languaje and i dont practice it too much (speaking). So i was very nerbous. But then i realiced, to my surprice, that i were quite understandable. Sometimes i neded to repeat twice what i were saying but..., being the first time i tried this was, just [[wow]]! Any idea when it comes out of the beta version?Also, there is a bug in my version where if I have a unit that has the hp_restore_mod for healing skills, it also affects attacks for some reason so I do 100 damage then restore 70 hp to the target. Is that also fixed in the newer version?

@Orin - thanks for the feedback. The current big items I now am tracking against on my list are:1. Allow Enter Building / Access Data Term via VO (this is what is blocking you. Youve arrived at the data terminal, but you cant access it. ... if you play Star Traders, this is like going to the planet but not being able to land on it. In CK, at the moment, there is no VO way to enter the building or access the data term. #1 issue to address).2. All status pages lack proper VO queues.Were fighting through a rash of other issues at the moment with jobs and such, so our latest release went out without any accessibility enhancements. Hopefully the follow-up will include some more progress, and I will be sure to post about ithere!

Overall I agree, audio games have very, very low system requirements compared to mainstream games. No doubt part of this is the high demand placed on the system from graphics not being needed in audio games.For performance within Windows any quad core I5 would do great but dont worry too much about the GHz value, also try not to get the unlocked K model of the processor unless you plan to overclock because you lose the turbo boost function. Other than that cram in at least 4GB memory and the more the better, and an SSD really is fantastic for making your system start and shutdown faster but depending on your storage requirements you might need to back that up with a normal spinning hard drive.

Glad to hear it. Dont worry, Kirk didnt really listen to me when not in the harness at first. They put a group of us up in a hotel for a couple weeks so they could train us all together and when I told Kirk to sit this older ladys guide dog sat instead while Kirk simply didnt bother. That said he is rather stubborn even to this day.

Well I was generally aware Susan was the Doctors granddaughter and she had travelled with him but beyond that nothing.Sometimes its nice when they keep the occasional role in the family, it keeps the connection to the past very much alive without being stuck there.
