Unfortunately, at the moment the access guidelines for what is a new release are rather specific, it has to be playable by a fully blind person with the same amount of effort as a sighted person. I usually cannot read graphical text (or at least it would need to be gigantic for me to do so), so what i've done in most console games and the odd pc game is learn menu highlighting and position, sinse I usually can see where the text is, eg, I was playing streets of rage 2 on my megadrive the other day, (yes I still have working 16 bit hardware), and I know that of the four beginning options, the options is at the bottom and the first option in options is difficulty, which can go from 
 easy, normal, hard or hardest and is set on normal by default, and I can get out of the options menu by going down to the bottom highlighting the last line and hitting start.On the other hand, in the Pc game Rick dangerous I just hit b to disable  background and have everything play on an easy to see plane black, where as Michi Nu's To hell with Johnny actually speaks all menu text via microsoft sapi despite being a graphical game.How does Sol work in this respect? I'm quite interested to play the game now, given I've  been a platform game fan for years (you can also find me over on the Turrican forever forums), and love games like Mega man and metroid with exploring not to mention all the original mario brothers.

@Keyisful, the legal rangle I just meant if you created a game called dracula live where you played a battle and battled other vampires, had blood as a currency and slaves who were hourly blood producers etc, ie, just about ripped off every aspect of vampires live. then! you might expect a legal hassle (and even then it wouldn't be certain).Really, when people are at the point of worrying whether creating a mission called "secure teretory" or "Check an ambulance", and when creating vampires in a game with magical transformations for rat, bat, cat, dragon etc is a concern of copywrite things are going craazy! Personally I'm getting almost as bloody sick of this copywrite paranoyer as I am of bloody vampires!

@Avid gamer, I can possibly answer some of your questions, and if I cannot maybe The beatstar db page can. First, yes, there is a user guide to read. Second, I don't know what you mean about "copywrites" the hole beatstar thing is free, so copywrite doesn't apply, and if it did, many, many many! people would be in deep dodo due to the awsome packs that so many people have made, so in this situation (as indeed in many situations),  copywrite can go sue itself . Personally having the other tracks from 1000 heartbeats in beatbox would be great, as would more opponent sound files, though I like the idea of a timed sorting minigame, rather like  the bomb defusing or bone matching in hunter or pipe two. @Adel, I personally am happy with the coin amounts in me
 mory, however i do have one suggestion regarding coins,  particularly sinse the more minigames we have, the more coins people will earn, and while people do have to buy the minigames initially, and risk coins on the minigames, with skill games like boxing the  coin supplies are going to increase, and so as any good economist knows when supplies go up you increase demand. As I said, Beatstar is now turning into an arcade in it's own right with it's own currency that earns fun rewards. So, just as in real life arcades you have those bonus tickets you earn from machines and can save up for a prize, well how about having some prizes in beatstar? (and I mean some better deals than 100 bonus tickets for a pack of chewing gum).Just like people submit packs now, why not let people submit prizes.  each prize would essentially be two sound files, one giving the name of the prize, one giving a short soundclip or movie. Each prize would need to be bought w
 ith coins like a soundpack before it could be unlocked, and prizes would be expensive, like about 25 k coins each.Once you had a prize, you could go to a "prize cabinet" option to listen to the short soundclip or movie. Essentially prizes would be rewards just there for bling value, but hay when we're talking arcades and games, what's up with a bit of bling? and of course you'd still need to decide whether that killer prize with it's short movie was more worthwhile than another soundpack for beatstar or unlocking all the minigames (indeed I don't expect people would go for prizes until later in their careers). Prizes would not be achievement trophies for getting onto scoreboadrs, scoring x in a row in beatstar or memory or one of the other games, or playing beatstar 900 times. Such things would be fun of course, but not specifically a coin sink as I imagine the prizes to be.

even when you connect the newbie flag won't be there, but now, it's fine cause... people have something to do now! To fish... and eat the fish and keep the hunger below 1000! So I believe the killing won't be as much. To eat a fish, use the captured_fish witht eh knife to gut it, then used the gutted_fish with your knife one more time, then you have a raw_fish! At this point, make a fire and repeatedly use the raw fish on a fire, like a knife on a tree. After a while you will get anetible_fish, which you then can eat! Yayayayayayayayayayayayayayayayay!

Nope, never had that bug happen, and I don't think it's related to the smugglers 5 versions. what I believe has happened is your screen resolution has got turned up. This isn't usually an issue in audiogames, but sinse in s5 the text has to tally with the graphics if your resolution is too high it won't work. In Xp (and I believe 7), you can set your resolution by going to control panel and display, finding the settings page and choosing a resolution with the list box. 800 by 600 or 1024 by 768 is what I would recommend and what  should make smugglers 5  o at lest it did last time someone else had a similar issue. hth.

Should I still make a thread in New Releases for this game?

A couple of weeks ago I released a new game (Sol, for those wondering) which is self-speaking and has some features such as contrast settings and zooming that can be used to make the game playable for those who are legally blind (even if you can only see some blobs). It still isn't really playable to those who are fully blind (i.e. no residual vision) though, and even though that is being considered it'll take a long while (some heavy modifications would be needed to truly work as audio only).Here's the question: should I still make a thread in the new releases category or not? I know it can't go into the database due to the aforementioned limitation (at least until it's fixed), but I'm wondering if a thread is still OK for those who are partially blind.Thanks.

that bug's been around for a while now, no idea why they haven't tracked it down yet but if you have a shortcut key for NVDA or have the icon on your desktop its pretty easy to fix, these days whenever I get it I can have it fixed up in about 10 seconds

@Dark, actually it is a deck gun not a depth gun. In any case. Dark's answer is essentially correct. You do not have to move from your position. Most of the ships will pass in front of you and you can pretty much shoot them without moving at all. However, if you want to complete the mission sooner you can turn slightly to intercept each at an angle. Although, like Raul I can take out all of the enemy ships with the deck gun so don't really have to move.

If the sound card worked properly, i would recommend monologue for windows and willow pond tts.Also, I found the old dzip game interpreter which means I can play the games that are on my braillenote in dos box or in the windows command line.

Hmm, interesting topic.  I hear tones on occasion, my hearing will temporarily get dim and I'll hear a tone that's probably around 900 or 1000 hertz sometimes, but it only lasts maximum 30 seconds so I just dismiss it. It doesn't happen too often though.  Also I find I have head rushes if I get really stressed. Basically, when that occurs, I have to lay down for about a minute or two and it passes. That doesn't happen too often; I had one on Thursday , another last month, and I can't remember when the last time before that was. As for the falling down sensation when asleep, it's happened before, and when it does I wake up with a racing heart and well startled. I think that what it is, though, is when I'm half asleep, and move my body a little bit to whatever side I feel like I'm falling to, and my brain interprets the sudden movement as falling because hey, it's asleep! Oh well, if I ever fall off of my top bunkbe
 d, I'll be awake when it happens.

Update to the latest version now and try, musical profeser. Everyone else, I have added a lot of fishing in here! I will now put instructions for making a fishingpole and lure. First: make too carved wood by combining wood and knife. Next: carve both of those with a knife, then combine the 2 shafts. After that, combine the long_shaft with a branch, and then, a string. Then you have a fishing pole. After that, take a clay, combine it with your hand. Then repeat that action, then combine the too dipped_bowls. Then you have the lure. To fish: Go a a body of water such as the stream of pond. To cast your line get the fishing_pole out and keep the other hand empty, and press t. Your pole will cast. Then get your lure and continuasly combine lure and fishing pole to atract a fish. After a while you will hear splashing. That means, a fish! But it doesn't mean it's on your line. Keep luring until you get a bite. This is signified by a loud short metal scraping sound like forse o
 n your fishing pole. When this happens, very quickly put the lure away and press t to start luring in. Keep pressing t until you hear a click, but after the click it means it's back in so t will cast again and your fish will eagerly escape. Instead of overpressing t, get your knife and combine it with the fishing pole to spear your fish! Enjoy!

For me, the "tones" happen continuously I believe. Gosh I wish I could find out at least what HZ its close to. Well above 1000 though. Maybe 1100 or so, probably a little less than that. I can focus on them, which makes them louder. Sometimes, there is a different, lower tone at the left or right ear. Sometimes, when my muscles in a part of my skull is tense, there is a very low tone.

Hi.In my opinion, it is reasonable for people to distribute these games as well as the unlock information. This is because I believe that Justin specificly said that he was closing his doors and no longer selling or maintaining. While he did offer a 75 dollar deal to buy all of his products as one package, that deal is no longer valid. I believe that he should have kept his games up as freeware if, as indeed he has said, he is no longer supporting them. While I am hugely against cracking, I believe that people have valid reasons for wanting them, because this is a different story. For someone like draconis or pcs games, people should not ask for those games for free, because as dark has said, they did not sepcificly say they were abondend. But bsc games is a different story.

That might be an option, but I expect that learning how to navigate in windows 7/8.1 takes less time than setting up a vm for someone who probably hasn't done that before.And plus, vms tend to have high audio latency, I tried gaming on one but it wasn't any good.

I agree with roelvdwal but with one qualification.Getting off XP is good advice, but if you *must* continue to use XP for any reason I highly recommend  only using it inside a VM with lock down security.Ideally Windows XP should only play inside the VM, and all potentially leaking VM features like folder sharing should be disabled, and the virtual OS should be set to nonpersistent so that everything is reset after each restart.

survver may be running, but I can't get on.   it just says connecting and then it hangs in the air for better way of putting it.   I can excape out and do everything with no problem but can't connect.   this happened when I updated title.   gets quite nerve racking.   I probably shouldn't have updated this.   then it might work and key word is might.   well no not quite cause it kept saying I needed latest version.   that's probably ware I should have left it alone cause I can't play it at all now.

So, in both versions of Smugglers 5 (latest versions) I can no longer click on treasures, lifepods, artifacts, ghost ships or lifepods. Is anyone else experiencing this, and if so is there a workaround?

Hi.It is a really bad bug. Only happens to a few players.It is very disruptive.Way toward the sound of the item, and not get caught. And sometimes picked up items that do not make a sound.I have to give several turns to get take the item on the map. It's like he was out of the sound.This happened before when the way loot points was released.But he had settled. Now the bug again. It's a shame ... Alright, here are my thoughts on this.  As for jaws, I'm running 15, so maybe what I have to say regarding jaws could be considered invalid.The reasons I like NVDA better than jaws are:1. NVDA is light weight and portable. I can just grab a copy, load it to a USB drive, and pretty much run it on any computer with Windows I want to.2. To obtain a fully functional copy of it, and that also means no demo restrictions, takes a maximum of four or five minutes, depending on how your computer feels like acting that day.3. It hardly takes up any memory at all. It runs quickly, at least on my machines. Even though I don't like ESpeak much, there are plenty off equally portable, quick speech synthesizers out there for NVDA.4. NVDA has only been developed for nine years, and useable for seven. But despite this, NV Access has implemented a lot, of features. And with three or four updates per year, users of it are always getting new features 
 and bug fixes.5. The mouse navigation, or I think it's called that anyway. It's whatever you're moving with NVDA+shift+arrow key on a laptop. That, in conjunction with left clicking, right clicking, and focusing the mouse has helped me a lot when encountering programs that were not accessible with the regular keyboard.6. I find NVDA to work better when I code. Even though Jaws anounces line numbers, it's still a pain because it will sometimes skip the text of a line or speak a graphic after it.7. When navigating folders, or browsing for files, or going through a list, I might here something like:"Graphic 680 graphic 632 Documents"Whereas with NVDA, I never have this issue.8. I find that when opening word Pad on my computer with Jaws, Jaws crashes sometimes, and I have to restart it. This can be very, annoying.9. It is possible to play games with NVDA without turning it off. This is not possible with JAWS.I
 ssues I have with NVDA but not with jaws.1. Sometimes, even if I'm just accessing a menu, NVDA will freeze for a second, and then go into this mode where I have to restart it because it speaks whatever text you tell it to, and you cannot stop it with the control key. Furthermore, NVDA key does not work.  The good thing with this, however, is that when I press windows D and hit "nvda" to get to the shortcut, I can open the shortcut and NVDA restarts itself.2. Jaws opens in a window. So if there happens to be an issue, you are usually able to scroll over to the window and close it, no matter if the Jaws key is working or not.3. I find that Jaws doesn't have the same issue where it totally freezes up like NVDA does.  Those are just my comparisons, how both affect my life, since I use each on basically a day to day basis. Hello everyone! Yes, I did record the call, but each recording was almost 2 gigs, so it took me a while to convert it into something reasonable. I have 2 versions. An ogg version which is like 363 mb in 7z format which has the full quality, or mp3, which is like half the size, but doesn't have a very good quality, in a zip file. I couldn't really give a better mp3 because then it would have been huge. Anyway, for the links. The first targeting mission is actually imho harder than the second. what you need to do is stay in place and then turn around to face the ships. As I remember the first one comes from in front of you so you can pretty much face north, but the second one is coming in at an angle to your position so you need to turn right around to get it. Raul gillegos in his walkthru could do them all with the depth gun, though I never got that successful myself. I do remember though that once I got the trick of killing the second and third the last was easy.

Sounds very cool indeed, the gogogogogooal! in the football game made me laugh! . I love the way beatstar is now sort of turning into it's own arcade with it's own prizes in terms of soundpacks, I also think getting safeguards another way would be good sinse I never personally want to spend on them sinse I always want to save my coins for unlocking new packs. Btw, Beatstar is already listed as donation on the database so people know they can donate if they wish, indeed I might well do s again myself if the next version of beatstar is to have all these goodies.I'm actually considering splitting the donation license type classification to distinguish games like Parkboss, Angel gift and beatstar where the developer accepts donations to help with future work, and games like a lot of the mmorpg type games where the donations are supposed to buy an i
 n game  item of some sort, though I've not really got a good snappy title for the second sort sinse "freemium" is a bit of a loaded term (as so many freemium games are pretty devicive, but certainly not all games that sell in game bennifits are like that). Maybe distinguishing that license type as gamestore?Either way, Beatstar pro sounds fantastic, indeed when i saw the title I did wonder if this would be a paid version of Beatstar which wouldn't really be unreasonable.

Hi thereI installed this and it works very good. But I like more the new versions of eloquence.Brad, if you get Chinese speaking, or like me, who got Spanish talking, just go in the voice settings menu after you've selected Microsoft sappy 4 synthesizer and in the Variant section press the home key, and you will hear the American English. Then you can move through the voices and different variants.Hope it helps.

Hello.I've listened to the trailler and it was very great! Specially the Boxing mini game. I'm looking forward to play it.However, in the latest version of Beet Star that I have played, There was a game mode called Beet Star Memory. In that game mode, even if you lose, your beet coins doesn't remove and you can obtain too many beet coins in a very easy way, just by starting that game mode and playing for 3 or 4 sequence and lose a game and start over. it makes buying safe guards and new sound packs very easy. please remove it from beet star pro or make getting beet coins in that game mode disable.

Clarification on mines:  You do not need to jump away immediately on setting them.  The mine will be placed at the next square of whatever direction you're facing, so that means that if you then step once in that direction, you will get hit.  So you can turn left, place a mine, then turn right and continue to proceed normally, or vice versa if you place the mine to your right.  However, moving away is recommended if you hear an enemy approaching the mine, as if you are one square away when it blows, you will also take damage.  One thing I have done on levels is to stand close to the door and allow my other characters to proceed into the area.  As the police start to enter, I will drop a mine and move away, thus killing the police before they can reach my two accomplices.  Then I will move back close to the door and repeat this.  I usually can do it three or four times before the numbers of police are too large to handle.  This buys
  a little extra time for them on missions before we're overwhelmed with police, and it also keeps them from immediately being distracted from picking up things by incoming police.

Hi.I think, if the developers do read this, that there should be an option to make every item you get either go to your bass or go to your inventory, so that there could be collectors, who collect stuff and that's it, and all that stuff goes to the main boss, e.g. you, and you could choose what you wanted your gang members to be; collectors, fighters, money horders, and so on.

Hello,Definitely can't wait to punch some gus with the boxing game. It'd be cool if eventually ou wil be able to mod these, although that might be maybe taking it too far, but imagine boxing against a robot one round and a monster another.

Something I have noticed about people that come and go, is they expect instant gratification, whether that involves training up almost instantly, or doing some advanced things right away. To that, I say this: Flux has a "feel" to it, and a certain timing, which runs on a more relaxed pace. You cannot just join, do everything, and be done with it in a few hours or even a few days. Some things happen over quite a period of time. It takes time to be familiar with the flow of things, in order to appreciate things like the conjunctions of the two moons, or meteor falls, or the rise and fall of the stock market, or the changing prime interest rate which can affect many things. Beyond this are even longer term things, the growing of the food, the height of the trees for harvesting in the forests, the accumulation of wealth.This is not to say that there are not things to do. In fact, some have told me there are almost too many things to do, and distraction can be an 
 issue, as they look for one thing, and are teased by something else to go get, and then something else, and can forget what they set out to look for.To that I say, keep your eye on the immediate goal, but be aware there is always things to do, places to see, bots to learn things from and converse with, and something else to go onto next.
