@Guitarman, I'd not exactly describe Banks stuff as hard, not in terms of "hard sf based on science" more towards the speculative end in some places very much about the philosophy and artistry, though they are a difficult read. I'd also not exactly dismiss Frank herbert as "not bad but not very good" he's an author with problems it is true, but his stuff does have a very unique quality and are classics for a good reason, they're books every sf fan should read at some point, and I don't just speak of his Dune series, sinse his Pandora books are good too (heck that was what the Avatar film was based on although they totally mangled the idea). Actually I think the pandora sequence, or at least those I've read of it have been better in some ways than the dune stuff, particularly in beauty and style. I wouldn't recommend discworld if someone is looking for sf specifically, but Terry Pratchett did actually write science
  fiction himself, Dark side of the sun and strata. Strata is almost a dry run for discworld sinse it features a disc shaped planet, but is very unique in many ways, Dark side of the sun however is my favourite of those. It's rather in the Larry Niven school of writing, lots of big, colourful concepts and ideas dealt with in a very quick rush with adventurous characters, but good for all that. Actually niven's own stuff isn't bad, it's light hearted and very pyrotechnic. Rainbow mars I'd particularly recommend along with the four time travel stories that preceed it, basically about the idea that a hole bunch of sf stories about Mars including those of Heinlein, C S Lewis and H G Wells are true in different realities and possible to reach by time machine. Though they are more cyberpunk than space fiction, I can also highly! recommend Tad Williams otherland series, City of golden shadow, rivers of blue fire, mountain of black glass and sea of silve
 r light.  Slightly similar to William Gibson's neuromancer, but with a far more literary focus, about online worlds created online and the internet. Definitely science fiction, though not with space, then again Tad Williams, like George R R martin is someone I would just recommend intrinsically on principle to anyone.

It works on IE8 on XP? That's surprising, though a good thing where you're concerned. Of course you have iOS, so it doesn't have to matter.I still have a BrailleNote I wouldn't mind seeing play these. Then again, I think that's asking a bit much nowadays; it's just about good enough to browse non-_javascript_ pages and FTP sites, so about the level of compatibility of IE6.Check the refurb store.  Your Mac could be a few hundred quid cheaper if you catch a lucky break.

I also play on Clok, but, I'm looking for a mud which is heavily crafting oriented and not a pvp mud.  I don't know if such a thing exists, but, if by some rare chance there is one, please pass it along.  I played wayfar, and still do from time to time, but, like Dark, I find it less fun once the colony is all built.  Last time I was on there, you could not really do anything much with your citizens, so, that took away from the fun for me.  If I'm honest, the older I get, the less violence I want to see.  I just want to cook, build things, plant things, work with animals, ... boring stuff like that.

Hi, there is no problem with the special door. How ever, there is a problem with doors made with custom, sounds. Which means if you put a custom sound on a door it won't play next time you start the game.

That's personally my problem with Avilon. They say it's super craft oriented, great rp, but all I saw in the half a month or so I was on there was pvp, 'u want help with er class' and stuff about gemquests (also pvp). SO yeah there's rp, but all of it seems to be in one way or another conflict oriented, which sucks. Anyways, have you tried out empire mud?

Hey all, just thought i'd drop in and say that i've redesigned dmnb's error checker. If an error happens on the server, it should notify me, but hopefully keep the server running to disrupt game playing as little as possible. I won't know how effective it is until an error pops up, but while I work on the errors, this should not interrupt your gameplaying, so it is now safe to return to whatever you were doing. Also i've fixt invasions and battle for your life missions, so have at it, and fight until you've had enough.

Hi. Interesting why nobody didn't paid attention on this title and didn't posted about here.A  blind legend achieved the goal and it's already near completion. I am one of the testers and I must say it will be interesting experience for all of you. Maybe I expected something more from the gameplay, especially from the combat mechanics but it's great still.I am already testing the beta version which is in french but soon there will be english version available for testing.

emm, hehehe, well, i not sure is this the bug, this is just for example: i want to make the map like a house , first , i put the wall at 10 0 , then i put the special door at 9  0,  , then i make its destination is 11 0, i set the waiting time is  500  , then, i make other door at 11 0 , and its destination is 9 0, then i set  its waiting time is 500,  when i enter  the door at 9 0 , its teleport me to 11 0, and then suddanly its teleport me back to 9 0 and teleport me again to 11 0, and keep go onwell, hehehehe, i hope you fix it

For those who are wondering, I don't mind going to ITunes for some of my books, but I only have $50 in my ITunes account at this time. So, getting it from bard or bookshare is my first choices for books that I don't know if I will like. LOL. Anyway, so many books to try to read to see if I will like. This field is so vast, it seems. I guess I should start reading to see what ones I like to get back with everyone here so that I can get more tailored lists to my likeing. LOL. Is there a pandora for books. I sort of liked the pandora radio app on IOS and wish that there was something like that for books. Oh yes, bard is back up for now.

I usually get hit with really high numbers of tough enemies that I have to escape and, often, I don't, which is sad. Firefox accessibility is the main reason I wouldn't consider Linux at the moment. It's still way too brittle and unpredictable.Windows 10 gathers a lot of information, though most of it is through the mandatory collection when the assistant is enabled (US only). This and most other privacy options can be switched off, except for diagnostics tracking and telemetry, which can only be disabled through Group Policy. Unacceptable, IMO. As noted above the situation is currently reversable on Win7/8/8.1.

I've fixed the oasis bug, as for the free heals I'll have to take a look at that, the item condesing thing has been suggested alot, I considered adding it while I was coding the inventory thing but couldn't implement it well enough so I'll be reviewing it soon as for your plant lore idea, sounds good.As for the traders, I will be fixing guards soon because they are usually weaker than the trader and in the future with armor and npcs having weapons all human npcs will be buffed, but I have no plans for level scaling.its possible to find any kind of weapon any time, the previous looting system before inventories went in just ran in the weapon generator until it got a weapon strong enough to fit its criteria like how the elite shops work however you can find great weapons at any time.Coal is useless atm aside from selling it, in the future when towns are overhauled it could have many uses, even being the currency of a to
 wn.there are definitely plans to let the player sell all his stuff, but It may take a day or two to implement, I wont be adding players choice for the price, the merchants or people you are selling to will say what they will pay for it based on their pricelevel, so a rip-off merchant will pay less for your stuff, however in certain regions they'll pay more for certain stuff and less for others, plus in the future I'll be adding a barter skill that effects both buying and selling, the toll gates will be updated in the future too, I'm not a fan of how they work and the fact they are unavoidable.Thanks for all the suggestions though, keep em coming, especially when I'm looking for bugs, I run through all the bug reports on this thread and on reddit before I release a build@mata, plant bug is now fixed. negative max hp sucks, but I did once get a +30xp plant, ate loads of them and ended up leveling enough times to max my herbalist skill.@K
 eyisfull, yup the wastes are out to get you! you generally want to avoid any region above level 3 or anything with titans or hellzones, aside from that you should be ok, only when you are a powerful mutant or have a super strong weapon would I ever risk titan regions or hellzones or level 9 regions.Scrap master is kind of broken atm, it worked up until inventory went into the game and allowed you to combine weapons, will be fixing it soonAs for storms I agree though, have nerfed them a bit in the newest update.

Hay.The downloads folder doesn't have bariors.It does; however; have zip bombs that sound like electricity.They tend to follow you around, so just use your knife to get wrid of them.They do have a range of about 3 or so.That means you'll have to jump right as you hear one of them.If you can land with the sound of the bomb in the center of your head phones/speakers, you should have no problem taking these guies out.Hope this helps...Later!

Accessible Linux Games

Can anyone tell me which of the games in the BSD games collection are accessible?  The only ones I can think of are Adventure, quiz, pom, and arithmetic.  Except that the minus sign was never spoken in arithmetic--maybe that was my choice of screenreader.  Also, has anyone tried Net Toe?  It's a tic tac toe game that runs on the console.  Are there any other games?  I just did a quick search and found GNOME MUD and tin tin++.  Also, has anyone tried running games under WINE?  I am leaning toward Debian for my next computer, because it is the only accessible Linux distro which I am aware of that isn't a live system.  Those are great for keeping on hand in case your main system gets messed up.  Or for learning and demonstration purposes.  I would like to be able to build a targeted system, without having to remove a ton of stuff that I don't need.

That demo is still up, here.I haven't made another one because Libaudioverse is substantially the same, though less tinny in real-world configurations.  The difference with Libaudioverse is primarily performance, stability, and a much more sane API.  I think OpenALSoft has better vertical, but I'm not able to look at or use his algorithms: doing so would make Libaudioverse permanently GPL and strip me of my ability to offer commercial licenses.  I've about matched the reverb quality, and I support (and have the potential to support) a bunch of other stuff related to synthesis, i.e. instrument design.  Keep in mind that this is a pre-release Libaudioverse, we're still at least weeks away from me declaring 0.8.And to answer the other question I've been getting: Libaudioverse is the only piece of this that doesn't run on Mac and Linux to my knowledge, but it wi
 ll in the future.  Not the immediate future, though.

For example I was fighting, and was doing fine. I was only taking like 5 to 15 damage and my regeneration perk was keeping the actual hp loss to a minimum, and then out of the blue I got hit for like 80 damage twice and died. I'm not sure how damage is calculated, but I propse a dice rolling system. You could even extend this to player weapons. For example instead of having a weapon that does 6 damage it might do 3d3 damage. Enemy attacks would probably depend on the enemy's level and hp; for example sandmen might do 9d4 damage while the goliath titans would do something like 30d100 or so. Just a thought. You could even make it a perk to see the enemy's damage roll, but that might be too op.

hay guys i modified my weapon to have damage of 10 and you still have to be careful of the ones that can kill that are powerful cause i found out very easy that even though i have that much dammage on my weapon if you miss them one time you are gone. so that is why i think this game is so awesome cause even though you have a weapon that is that strong  you can still get killed even at a low level as well so i think this game is for me the best game going out there because it is so worth the challenge. so keep up the good work waistlander love your game

You can play soundrts on linux access invaders and text adventures and gamebooks and muds on linux but that's about it.Oh and all linux distros are accessible all of them carry orca. But if you want a distro with access all setup get sonar linux the installer talks and everything is setup. But whatever distro you get ubuntu, debian, archlinux, vinux, sonar linux all have orca so whatever distro you choose has accessibility.Hth.

@keyisfull, the fight pit bug has been reported alot recently, but to reiterate, most of the stuff in towns is and has been screwed for a while, I'm avoiding towns like the plague because any changes made to them will be pointless when I do the big town overhaul in the semi-near future.the damage done by an enemy depends on their strength, they may have weak moments but generally they will hit their strength level of damage, also enemies can score hefty criticals on you that you might want to avoid, I don't think I want to overhaul damage anytime soon cause I think the system works alright as it is, though combat will be changed soon, such as the player not always going first, the ability to disarm and the ability to stun ect.@Catfish, [[wow]], powerful weapon! and thanks I try to keep it challenging but its still a challenge (scuse the pun) to keep it challenging when the player gets op as hell, not sure if any of you have met mirror mutants yet in your ga

Well that's not exactly true, sometimes its down to desktop, so like I tried mint 16 with cinamon and no accessibility at all, even though there was a universal access menu, none of the stuff would work. So I can see a bit and I have a Ruby so i can look at the menu if something goes wrong and orca don't come up at keypress. Yeah none, none of the stuff and cinamon dev don't get a shit. whatevs, now if you did mint 16 with mate, then you should be good.

So it's high time I replied. So with stw, I can have no way of knowing then the server and/or damien pendleton will apear again. I know that there moving houses, and doing that, then getting internet access can take a while. He gave me a lot shorter time when he told me, but hey, there moving house, anything could happen. If it's not up soon though I will send a message to him about it. I agree this downtime is terible. About itnoring help messages, it's not my point to try to ignore them. I probably do more than I should and i'm sorry. The thing is, I have like 30 different people wanting to host an stw server, but the problem is, I barily know any of them. They say they can host but well first I had a host that was working just fine, I need to get my maps and stuff from damien before even considering switching to another host which I don't really want to happen, see, switching hosts 20 times on an online game will start annoying both the players and me, 
 it's a lot of work, and I have to put a lot of trust in the person that is hosting for me. As for damien, I know he's moving house, and I know that can take half a month sometime. I will see if I can get some sort of an update soon, however.

MOO database is also a thought, which has its own language, but with the right core (like mine), you dont really have to program at all, unless you want to, just start building. Its designed to do a lot of space and futuristic already.

Looks like most if not all of it can still be disabled through task scheduler at least. Still, as you said, unacceptable and way too inconvenient. Also Win10 still has some new processes running that I can't find any way to disable short of actually deleting the files, and it just seems a bit slower than 8.1. So yeah, I'll be sticking with this for the foreseeable future.
