Re: good muds
Re: good muds Moderation! Welcome snowcat to the forum. This part of the forum is for announcing newly released games, so I will move this topic to general game discussion where such questions usually go. As regards muds, well if you check the database on the front of site, you will find several descriptions for muds, (go to where it says search database and select muds as the genre). There are lots of muds, albeit none with a soundpack like alter, however there are many others that have unique gameplay and style, indeed you might also want to check This topic where someone recently asked about muds.At the moment I'm playing avalon rpg, which I'm finding very good with the different activities, unique combat and extremely complex world, it's not a hack n slash like alter but there is lots to do. There is also the very combat orientated and random aardwolf, the extremely well put to gether and realistic clok (which probably has some of the best wilderness I've seen), the detailed and roleplay intensive Diskworld, and the highly complex and very large materiamagica. Six dragons is rather quiet in terms of players but has a nice crafting system and selection of races, while frandom is more like an ongoing interactive fiction than a mud with many quests and different things to explore and do.I've also heard good things about Lost souls, though haven't tried that one.Getting away from standard medeival fantasy, there are several muds in space like Prometheus, which is continually updated and has very dedicated staff, the extremely player vs player miriani, wayfare1444 where you are in charge of a space colony and must do lots of building and crafting and exploring, and the rather unique flux world which is set on an alien planet and again all about the exploration.I've also heard good things about the zombi themed epita ff, though not played it. Most of these muds have pages in the database where you can find more information, or have players and topics on the forum. Really, there is a lot by way of muds, so perhaps some idea of what sort of thing you fancy might be nice, combat, exploring, fighting other players, doing quests, role playing or whatever.@Mirage, I'd say Aardwolf is a little more combat orientated than alter, and somewhat more structured, with one quest for each area and lots of random "kill this monster" type of quests, indeed while there are a few secondary activities in Aardwolf like laser tag, they tend to still be very combat heavy. Aardwolf I also found rather complex with the equipping and stat balancing which is less my thing and why I didn't continue with my char, though obviously this is something people vary on. Materiamagica is harder to get into than Alter I think, and also rather less structured, I've hea rd the combat can get really! complex with different skills etc, though in the newbie areas I tried it wasn't so bad. I think they're making the game rather more newbie friendly than when I tried, sinse finding the quests etc was something of a pain when I played, particularly given the massive! size of the world.I actually need to try mm again and see if I can get further into the game now lots of the less friendly stuff has been ironed out. Re: What is a TV anyway?
Re: What is a TV anyway? That actually does sound pretty cool, I've heard of such but getting the full description is good. I find it a little odd that it can't reccord though, sinse while the system isn't half as sophisticated, my parents have had a sky package that came with a tv and hard drive for years (though it doesn't speak, use the internet or search), indeed on the few occasions I actually want to watch something on tv I just ask my parents to bang it on the tv's harddrive and watch it when I visit. indeed on some very naughty occasions my parents have hooked up a dvd writer and recorded disks, (a nice way to get episodes of classic doctor who), which I definitely think the fat cats would not approve of, even though that's eaxactly what everyone did with their video cassette recorders back in the day. Oh well, sinse when have I ever cared about what the fat cats want anyway? . The only reason i don't consider something like this or the Apple tv myself is simply that there isn't that much on tv I really want to watch, indeed I haven't had a tv license now for years, I mostly just watch stuff on dvd instead (I'm watching the series Angel at the moment),.I could see myself switching to an online service in the future for watching tv series, but there just isn't enough on broadcast tv to really make me want to bother with the thing, indeed it's quite ironic that the more channels we seem to have the less good stuff there is to watch, which really! makes me feel like an old fart sinse I can remember the days when tvs came with just four channels, bbc 1, bbc 2, Itv and Channel 4 .Then again, when we did get sky, Sky1 was pretty amazing, what with round th e clock simpsons, and other cool stuff like startrek, Highlander and the X files . Re: What Race would it be good to date as a blind person
Re: What Race would it be good to date as a blind person I suspect the "white girls in a sighted environment" hurstseth mentions in post 12 were in a school, and as Cae said, secondary school is a very nasty place. I've been in the sighted environment at a university and met lots of girls and found things %100 different in terms of acceptance and interests and everything else.I think Gean said it best, while Cae is right environment and culture and group dynamics are bad things, in terms of the pure ratial characteristics I've pretty much encountered a variety from everyone. If we're just talking about girls, some of the most violent, sadistic and down right nasty people I've ever encountered in my life were a combination of caucasian, west indian, and half east indian, and yet I've met ladies from all of these genetic groups subsequently and found wonderful examples of all of them.Actually, it has surprised me that I've ended up finding that my soul mate is a blind person, but again as Mirage said, when it works, it works, and there really isn't a way of explaining why. Indeed, if I've learnt anything from where I am now it is that the hole "Dating" malarchy is just as stupid and sexist and ridiculous as I always thought it was, and is no substitute for just forming friendships with people of your preferd gender and seeing what happens. Re: samtupy camlorn audio wrapper usage
Re: samtupy camlorn audio wrapper usage yes but, then you get the headaches of an online game, and that's almost worse. Now you have large technical challenges and an ongoing, never-ending need for social moderation and whatnot...just sell it and don't care, because the people who would pay a monthly fee for the game will buy your offline one, and the people who won't will pirate your offline one but at least they're playing it, and you really only want to go to MMO world if it's a labor of love and you're willing to deal with the difficulties of it for an indefinite future. I don't know if you've done a game or not, but if you haven't then I suggest holding off on online stuff; it's at least twice as hard as the offline equivalent of the same game, possibly more depending on what you're doing, and the ratio of time to money is much worse than an offline game would be.As for C++, sorry if I'm rantish. I find that most people think that C++ is synonymous with programmer and go try to learn it for that reason. They inevitably bounce off it hard and leave. I see this pattern over and over, coupled with the belief that choosing C++ when C++ is not necessary somehow gains you something in terms of productivity for anything but niche projects. Consequently my I should stop now detector doesn't detect. I'll let you know when I convince myself that this is a bad thing, at least in regards to this specific issue. Re: Wondering if Tracktor DJ is accessible Yes, Serato Dj definitely works on windows. I have it on my windows7 laptop as a backup, but my primary machine is my mac. As for DJay2, I haven't tryed that software with any of my hardware yet, but I do stick with serato because with DJay Original, I have to have my hands on my mac more than my dj gear because the scrolling/brows features on the hardware respond quite slowly while using the software. Perhaps that was fixed in DJay 2? As for serato, I can quickly turn the scrolling knob and get from letter A to D in a few seconds in my library. Like I've said above, I'm more than happy to post tutorials and things on my particular setup and such. Re: Audio Enhancements on OEM computers
Re: Audio Enhancements on OEM computers This was one of the most annoying things about experimenting with moving back to Windows from OS X for me: the bloody driver interfaces. They're all mega-forcewear, inaccessible monstrosities a lot of the time. Realtek, especially. So you find yourself picking motherboards and sound cards that aren't using Realtek's software. For what faults Macs have, having device controls and sound hardware drivers be generic enough to be managed through an operating system component, which is accessible, is one of its virtues. The Windows drivers are acceptable, but they lack such basic features as mixer controls and working DirectSound, so that you end up reinstalling the vendor's rubbish, sooner or later. And I must confess that the interest for the idea shown when I was looking for sounds was a nice surprise to us.Now its time to make the project alive. Talking about my upcomming game Tornado machine Everything starts with a game called ace Combat.I was talking with Haramir when them commented about a game that his friend was playing, and i think: hmm, why not creating a game like this? Seems a good idea. For about 1 year i programmed some projects in bgt, just for practisse, that i never released to the public. I planned to make it secretly, but when Haramir asked for sounds, i noticed that some people become interested on the game. Now, i come with a list of questions that i want to know from you:-How you wish to test the game? I preffer on a unic server that the players may interact with others, but i fear that the distance between countries may lag the data transmission a bit. What you think about have your game information such weapons and achievements saved at a file that the game sends to the server? The advantage is that you don't need to worry about connecting to different servers if i release the server program when the game becomes st able.Well, thats all. Re: samtupy camlorn audio wrapper usage The abundance of third-party libraries and the amount of game development resources for sighted developers was something that I found quite nice about c++ as well. Yeah, the learning curve is much much steeper, and if I can't handle it, I have no problems trying something else. You're right about the fact that any DRM scheme I could come up with is crackable, which is why I think if I ever sell games, it'd be multiplayer/online-based to avoid all the headaches. Griff! Fantasy Sidescrolling Platformer Hey everyone, for those interested in fun sidescrolling platformers. there's a new game called Griff I wanted to share with you. This game is a lot like Spyro the Dragon. Play as Griff, a young and brave winged lion. Griff's father is a winged lion, like him, but his mother and brother are both Griffons. Teleport to other fantasy realms with mythologies of Greece, China, Egypt, India and more. Griff has a nice quick pace, with no scanning or scouting. Instead using 3D sounds and indicators with a convenient learn sounds menu. Run, jump, glide and fight fantasy creatures. Gameplay is somewhat like Q9 meets Spyro the Dragon and Mario.Griff has a special weapon. The Midas Gloves. When you punch enemies, they solidify into gold. When you punch them again, they shatter and become gold pieces to collect! Griff has wings, you can glide anytime!Click here for TrailerClick here to purchase full game for only $14.99This game was finished in the summer technically. Re: rasberry pie for the blind and or visually impaired
Re: rasberry pie for the blind and or visually impaired I recently went from a Banana Pi to a Raspberry Pi 2, so I believe I can help you with this. I don't know which operating system you want, but I do know that Raspbian has SSH enabled immediately after setup. Something to keep in mind though, I've found Raspbian to be extremely bloated. The image alone is about 4 GB because it has desktop GUI software, the Wolfram Engine, LibreOffice, and tons of other things a person who runs headless probably isn't ever going to use. With that being said though, all of that can easily be removed. No matter which OS you choose, once you have the image, you can go here and use this program to copy it to your card. Once that's done, connect your pi to ethernet and power, wait a few seconds, and you should be able to SSH into it and go from there. What is a TV anyway?
What is a TV anyway? I just bought a Samsung UN50JU7100FXZA 50 inch LED accessible TV.Holy crap! This isn't a TV, it's a damned computer with tuners, a big monitor, and speakers. What makes this TV accessible is that it has a text to speech system that reads to me all of the TV's menu and settings options as well as external information such as information about TV shows from the electronic program guide.Once it knows what each of the channels is, Discovery, History, ABC, NBC, etc., it can download program guides from the Internet, and it will read it to me when I use it. That will make it easy to know what's currently on and what's coming up.It also has the ability to be controlled by vocal phrases, like, "tune to" or "volume up", etc. What would be really cool, once I get all the channels set up is if I could say "tune to history channel" and it searched my channel line up for the History channel and tuned to it, no need to remember channel numbers any more. What would be even neater, though I'm not expecting it, is if I could say "tune to Shark Tank" and it searched the program guide for Shark Tank and if it was on, tuned to it.If I hooked up a USB hard drive to it, the TV has the ability to record scheduled TV programs to it for viewing at a later, more convenient time. Unfortunately that feature is disabled in the US and Canada. Rats! I'll bet I have the lawyers paid by the motion picture and music industry association to thank for that. Otherwise, I can't think of any logical reason why recording programs for watching later shouldn't work just because I live in the US or Canada. Normally, I'm not inclined to hack things because everytime there's an update to the device, you have to redo the hack, but the ability to record programs for later viewing is such a useful feature that I'll be watching for a hack to reenable itThe TV ca n be hooked up to the Internet for streaming services like Netflix, Amazon Instant Video, YouTube, Pandora, and others. It also has a web browser in it! I don't expect to be using any of those, but I will have it hooked up to the Internet so it can get the program guides.I'm not sure I like the remote for the new TV. The remote for the old TV had nice, well defined, raised, and rubberized buttons that were easy to find and use. The new remote's buttons are small, designed to blend into the remote, and made of the same material, making them not so easy to find and use. For that reason, I plan to see how much voice command can do to minimize the need to use the remote. One thing that I thought was interesting. My old TV has a 46 inch screen, my new TV's screen is 50 Inches, and yet the old TV weighs more than the new TV does. There is a lot to explore here, it should keep me out of mischief for a while. Re: What Race would it be good to date as a blind person Everyone can be judgmental; and probably for good reason if the first thing you see about someone is their race. In fact, don't you think you're being a bit judgmental yourself? You're here on a forum asking for advice about which race of girls you should date, because you believe white people to be judgmental; so aren't you judging them?Damn, I used the word judgemental way too much in that post, but I think you get what I'm saying. Re: What Race would it be good to date as a blind person
Re: What Race would it be good to date as a blind person I think using race or culture is a very poor way to judge a person because in both you'll find people that are truly wonderful people and people who you wouldn't want to meet anywhere much less in a dark alley at night. If you have to judge someone, judge them by the way they act.For the most part, I've found most people of a variety of races and cultures to be very nice and considerate of other people, generally, unplesent, unfriendly, or judgemental people seem to be the exception. From my own experience I wouldn't want to deny myself of knowing some of my friends by choosing to shun a race or culture. I'd prefer to decide if I want to associate with someone based on the kind of person they show themselves to be. Re: What Race would it be good to date as a blind person Lol, I do agree with everyone here, @hhurstseth404. Really, if a girl's judgin you, it's got nothin to do with their race, it's just because they're a set-you-downer, so not the right one. The right one doesn't need to be of any race, but just needs to love you for who you are. And yes while it is true some! common white girls are judgemental, not all of them are. There are still plenty of nice girls out there *ask my friends* that won't even think of setting you off just because you're blind. Re: New audiogame: Space Encounter available for PC and Mac!
Re: New audiogame: Space Encounter available for PC and Mac! This post is going to be very long, be warned. The following is to be taken as constructive critasism. Don't expect it to be the best review ever written, its the first one I actually tried to write. so, I have a few points which I must address, which doesn't really give this game any positiv feedback.firstly.The difficulty factor does not encreese at all as you go up levels. Its simply another of those games where you basically need to target and fire, and sometimes avoid shots, but that's about it. The enemies have no differences to them at all from what I've noticed. So far, I've played to the retillien area and I've always noticed the same pattern with all enemies. Basically they randomly move around the screen and occasionally shoot at you. That is all their doing and it becomes quite predictable after a time. Also, the enemies don't have any different stats e.G. their health is always more or less the same, and their patterns are all the same. There is also, quite frankly, no description for enemies. If I here something like "Senshent bio asteroids", I can at least get a vaig immage of what they should be. but if I here something like "Retillien stormtroopers," I just can't form any immage in my mind that would describe them. The game interceptor from vallient galaxy did a wonderful job with this. It has a timeline leeding up to the galaxie's current state of war, a description of different races as well as humerous descriptions of different cargo in their game "traders of known space," planet text, system descs and other things. There is no variaty to the levels. The only thing that actually changes is the level name. Ship quantity, ship patterns, and how many are on the screen at once never changes. The other only thing that changes is the background music, and even that only has a selection of tracks which are all assigned to m any levels at once. e.G. when fighting near a nebula The areas seem completely random without any real point to them. When I here the words "campagne," I expect a storyline or plot. I'd expect enemies to be able to hide in the nebula and then having a group of them on the screen at once. Or maybe your targetting sollution being jammed because of the nebula's interfearance. In the big planet belt you could have evacuation ships which you should at all costs not hit. They would pass from one side of the screen to the other. Shooting one would result in its distruction and you losing points, possibly even rank. This brings me to rank. Rank doesn't seem to do anything in this game. I unlocked the expert pilot rank and it didn't change anything. I still had the same ships to choose from, and I also couldn't select different weapons, even though the game description states that you can actually choose your weapons. When it comes to weapons and you say you could choose them, I'd expect a variaty of weapons with different advantages and disadvantages. e.G. the pulse cannon could have a large hitting area but would do little damage. Or missiles could do trommendus damage on a wide area but would take very long to get there, which would give an enemy plenty of time to avoid. I could think of more given time but that's about it.Also when it comes to weapons, there's a really easy way to fire very fast but not have your weapons overload on you. Simply hit space bar at just under the maximum speed, and you can shoot away without anything happening. This makes the game even easyer than it is even without using this. And yes, I have actually not used it in later levels. All in all, I kind of regret buying this game. For its pricetag, I have to agree with the rest of the complainers that its very overpriced for what it offers. In the end, to anyone who is thinking about buying this game, I wouldn't recommend it, or at least waiting for more content to be added. Re: samtupy camlorn audio wrapper usage
Re: samtupy camlorn audio wrapper usage So this is my opinion on the situation. It is long, and you can take it or leave it as you choose. But you specifically asked, and C++ is one of the things I share my opinion on at any opportunity.Yes, C++11 is still bad, Though it's at least better. I'll give it that much. If you stay in the realm of smart pointers, use std::array and std::vector instead of the raw C types, declare all destructors to be virtual, and avoid template overuse, you're kind of sort of okay. But not really great. Do note that most tutorials do not teach you the C++11 way to do things, mostly because people don't rewrite after they wrote it in 2000 and still get the good Google rankings.C is simple. C is very simple. Simplicity is the point of C. But this doesn't mean easy. The problem with C is that you can't effectively abstract over anything. You can make some sort of list of ints, but good luck using that code on lists of mobs, at least without going into void pointer land or way overusing the preprocessor. You'll end up coding your own inheritance and basically duplicating huge chunks of what C++ gives you, and you have to manually manage the lifetime of everything without any help whatsoever.C++ fixes this at a cost. Libaudioverse quite simply wouldn't be possible to write in C, so much so in fact that I actually spent a week rewriting and converting it to C++11. C++ gives you abstraction. But these abstractions are all designed around being efficient and producing code that would be as fast as if you'd hand-written it at the lowest level possible, and lots of them were originally developed in a time when we had so little ram and CPU that compilers could do almost nothing for you. So you end up with the ability to write at a rather high level, believe it or not, but there's a million and one ways to make things fragile, or crash outright, or cause the compiler to give you cryptic error messages that tell you nothing except that there is a problem somewhere. And you sometimes have to hold something like ten times more information in your head as compared to the more "modern" languages. If you avoid most of the features, you can use it like C with classes, and generally that's what I do; I do use templates and stuff, but I think very hard before deciding to do that. Libaudioverse has less than 10 templates, to give you some idea. Templates in C++ are an entire second language that you mix with "normal" C++, in a way, and semantically they're actually closer to Haskell than anything. Most libraries written specifically for a C++ audience love their templates. This is where I get to confess that I have considered doing games in C++. I've been using it for 3 years now, mostly because I don't have a choice for the projects I want to do, and I know how to steer clear of all the gaping maws to C++ hell at this point. If you know how to steer clear of the gaping maws to C++ hell, it's actually an okay language, and you're right: no one will ever reverse engineer it, though breaking your DRM is still possible. C++ is the language of sighted gaming, and so you can find all sorts of libraries and stuff that cater to C++ first (Box2D comes to mind here, and the fact that it's C++ first is very obvious if you try it in Python). The standard library, what exists of it, is generally very well done. C++11 gives us the next best thing to a garbage collector, and if you bring in Boost you can get cross-platform networking and a bunch of other goodies. Disregarding anything about the language, the one major downside that I keep running into from time to time is the completely abysmal support for unicode, but other than that the gaming landscape is pretty okay. I 9;ll be doing C++ wrappers over the Libaudioverse C API at some point, if only because C++ is the most game-centric language in sighted land. But setting up all these libraries is tricky at best, as you have discovered already. But this is after 3 years of intense programming in it, I'd still have Libaudioverse in C if it weren't for C++11 because pre-C++11 is not by any stretch of the imagination okay, and honestly I'd have to say that learning C++ to a degree where I think you need to be to get a job in it is probably harder than learning to write games in the first place. The thing about code protection is this. You are not going to do anything at all that I can't get off the internet faster and easier than decompiling and reverse engineering your code for it. Everything you are going to do in your game has been done before. Hundreds or thousands of times. Your network protocol can be cracked even in C++, just by getting some packet sniffing software. Your DRM can be cracked by someone determined, as all they have to do is patch your DRM's assembly to return true when it's asked if it can be authorized. Re: Bokurano Daibouken 3 : secondary topic
Re: Bokurano Daibouken 3 : secondary topic Keep your distance and use the rope. I would generally try to run toward the right end of the room--maybe even pick up the riceballs before fighting--but that's dangerous if you don't have any room to retreat if they get too close. (It might help to try and level up some more, if you haven't already. I don't remember which is the quickest way to level up in stage 1, but if you press e after killing something, the last item in the menu should have two numbers: one is the enemy's level, the other is how much experience you got for defeating it.) Possible bavisoft changes An interesting development.https://whois.icann.org/en/lookup?name=bavisoft.coma pair of what would appear, without actual testing, to be valid email addresses. There's still no actual bavisoft.com website, but the domain appears active, so this may be worth a shot. Re: Any good tutorials for Reaper and ReaAccess out there? Hi,There are a couple of tutorials over at:http://cucat.org/cavicasts/2011/It's an index page, so you'll have to scroll down until you see the ones about reaper. You could also use your screen readers find command to search for reaper, and find the files you're interested in.I hope this helps. rasberry pie for the blind and or visually impaired
rasberry pie for the blind and or visually impaired Hello, I was wondering if anyone knew where to get started with a rasberry pie being visually-impaired. I want to basically download an image, put it onto the rasberry pie somehow without any keyboard, mouse, or monitor connected to the rasberry pie, and then just be able to connect the rasberry to my router and ssh into it whenever I want to control it. Thanks for any help. Re: What Race would it be good to date as a blind person
Re: What Race would it be good to date as a blind person Replace "race" with "culture", and you might have more meaningful trends. Especially since that let's us subdivide more. The stereotypical judgmental gaggle of high schoolers playing the game of thrones by finding something nasty to say about whoever isn't present at the time (or sometimes when they are present, if they dare to refuse to play along)? Ew, no... except sometimes people get swept up in subcultures like that out of a sense of preservation (I know because I've had two separate bullies tell me this... one as an apology, the other as a "friendly warning", but also, if you think about it, how many people are in this because they're judgmental jerks at heart, and how many got caught in the "join us or be crushed" incentive trap??). Does that culture have anything to do with race? Not really. It tries to devour everyone who gets near it, it s pawns in places where any nicer culture is either crushed or not allowed to grow (insert comparison between highschool and prison here).I can't tell if, in distinguishing "Spanish" from "white", you mean people from Spain or people from Latin America, but I guess it's worth noting that there's a lot more catholic influence at work in both than anywhere I've been. (I will add, though, that one of the people in my previous parenthetical was catholic... although I think he was more trying to get into Zen rather than being especially devout. Most Catholics I've met have been on the "more likable than average" side, whether it was the girl at the Math and Science school who was some manner of Taikwando champion trying to research treatments for MS, or the (former?) choirboy who was the only other person from my original school to go to the Math and Science school, or the German physics/astronomy teacher at the Math and sci--OK , maybe Catholicism isn't the biggest filter, here.)What you want is a filter. Those are hard to come by if you're stuck in someplace that's relatively "normal" (Whatever "normal" means). Standard suggestions are focusing on activities or groups you enjoy and could see a perspective partner enjoying--clubs, meetups, sports, dance, whatever. But we've had someone here get a pretty bad result there, too, so... add more, stronger filters, I guess.(Disclaimer: has no friends, might not be the best person to give advice. ) URL: http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.php?pid=239285#p239285 ___ Audiogames-reflector mailing list Audiogames-reflector@sabahattin-gucukoglu.com https://sabahattin-gucukoglu.com/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/audiogames-reflector
