The releasing the storyline in bits with each new update is something i've done for quite a while now, in fact its a lot easier to do that for me as if I try to cram it all into one big 6 to 1 year work fest with out release and feedback, I lose intrest in the project. Having the storyline for both online and offline run along side each other is something that could possibly work, another suggestion I got is to make the offline storyline a sidestory. I'd ideally like to still keep the strawl in as an alien race like in the original project alpha, as one of the cheaf complaints about dmnb was that their were no aliens to battle and hardly any ground combat. I could do something like what the canceled fortune's frontier project was going to do, in that I could write up the beginning for the storyline, and place it online, and then possibly still have an offline mode, however it could be ritten into missions that detail various key points throughout the story. That
 9;d also provide an insentive to have a roleplay atmosphere for online, since players would be contributing to the storyline. The one problem with that idea is doing it like that eliminates any form of structure in the storyline. Unless we possibly set it up in such a way so that the online portion of the game would have a constant and expanding storyline where the galaxy is constantly open to conflict, and an offline mode which would only get new missions baste on importent events that would further the conflict. What's the differents between youtube-dl gui and pontes media downloader?Neither get regular updates, not counting youtube-dl, which is what the programs use in the background.Pontes Media Downloader only lets you download one file at a time, unlike youtube-dl gui.I suppose Pontes media downloader is good from an accessible standpoint, when youtube-dl gui has a few items unlabeled, I'm not sure what they are off the top of my head.Pontes Media downloader crashes for me when I try to download playlists, and last I looked it only supports around 400 sites.video-download.online supports a hell of a lot more sites, asuming they actually work.It all boils down to preference.Yeah I know, I just answered my own question lol.Funny how that happens when you start typing.

You knew that Sams website and things would be taken down, and now, you're showing your power by being the guy who fixed what you, and only you have fucked up in a very harsh way. Because bad attention is better than nothing.You got a lot of great attention then you came back on the forum, and wrote all your apologies. People thought you really had changed. You might actually have changed, I don't know, 
 and really don't care anymore. You tried to get some good attention by writing some geeky security warnings in the off topic room and some great comments in the developers room as well. But then, you wanted more attention and decided to fuck up Sams website for no freaking reason. You thought you would get some good attention again by telling people that you were the powerful guy who fixed everything and made all people happy. You might not have thought about the fact that people got the current point of view, which result in bad attention. Or maybe you thought about this, and bad attention is better than nothing. Some people actually enjoy drama, and constantly want more of it.It's sad that you keep messing things up for yourself. Some people never learn. After this drama, I'll always be skeptical, and I can't take any apologies serious from you anymore, because you have just showed you haven't changed regarding to making drama and trouble.

PM sent, there ya goand for both sides of the coin, agreed but it needs to be a happy medium between the story and the other stuff to do (see my PM for thoughts if it sent properly), IMHO if people power through the game they get bored and give up, if they get stuck at some point, they give up.As an aside, why not release the SP story in chunks or episodes once you finish one part, release it, then release the next part X weeks or days later, and so on till the SP story is done? Just a thought

cool, i look Forward to that. But I would suggest making the sounds optional and making both Sound and text at the same Level. This has an Major Advantage: Those who can't or don't want to use the sounds can rely on the text and enjoy the game at the same Level without loosing anything. This would be great esspecially if there are Hearing impaired persons playing. That's why I think synchronizing both could be great for more than just one disability.

For those of you who have played the demo, I'm trying to hunt down solutions to the issues that have been raised. Could you give me further information on the things that have been mentioned as problems so far:1. Regarding the tooltips, I'm trying to work out an easy solution to this but I might have to engineer something else in its place due to how the glossary keywords are implemented.2. The map and inventory — when those are unlocked through the course of the demo, there should be a button that appears on the sidebar underneath the metres showing your stats (Body, Vigour, Mind, Charm, etc). There's also the Credits, Saves, etc buttons. Do these all appear for you when you "click" on them?3. If they do appear and you can see the map and inventory screens, is it just that your readers don't make the buttons interactive?The more information I can get about these issues the better, unfortunately I don't really know how to test it on my end (I couldn't figure out how to use VoiceOver at all for example!) so I'm trying to work out how your screenreaders actually operate so I can think of a solution to the issues you've mentioned.

Hello...I don't know if this has already been done, but I'm making a topic for any secrets that people might have. I don't have very many, which explains why this topic is not in the articles room. The 1s I do have are that you can get the gravity killer in stage 5-3 by either changing the dials in 18-3 or playing on a higher difficulty. There's also 1 where you can get the jump shoes in 6-3 by going all the way to x coordinate 1000 without activating the landing switch. I'm still trying to find out how to get the magical ball in the standard version, I already have it in the chaos version. Well, that's it from me, at least for now. I'll try to remember more secrets.

Chatter does seem to be picking up lately, there was [this] recent article on Gamasutra for example, among others. It seems Ian Hamiltons been quite busy lately, heh. This also seems to mirror a post last month by frastlin [here] where he was talking with some developers about audio game conventions for accessibility.This seems like a good thing, but part of me wonders if a different approach towards popularizing Audio games more broadly as a genre could help the initiative. Why make the focus purely on integrating accessibility and not exclusive audio based experiences like PapaSangre, which are accessible by default?

A private message would be better, since I no longer have access to the e-mail I registered here with. As for the storyline, i've debated the best way to get around that ishue, as I see both sides of the coin. On one hand, I agree with those who say that the online should at least have something to do with the offline story, instead of just being an audio mud with a buntch of things smushed together. On the other hand, the problem with the storyline approach is that you can't simply take it to online, come up with a story and say go. Mainly because its event baste and limits possibilities for online play. I've been debating intraducing it as a missions system, where you could still rome about the game doing activities but could run into various missions which would further the story, or at least be rellivant to the plot of the game after the offline storyline has ended.

@Danny:Gonna shoot you an email to help with that actually if you care to read it, as the guides don't explain a few little steps.Either way... my worry with the game is you'll railroad us all down the same story path and people will in effect just gear their shit to go and power through the story and forget about the other side of the game.

Brandon, just a tip, lessthan and greaterthan as used in html doesn't work in bb-code. You'll need to use brackets instead. Alfredo, panning works better overall in goldwave. And the nvda addon will announce a lot of the shortcuts you use, such as start and end selection, record, pause, stop, you name it. To pan, first what you need to do is select your start and end with the brackets. Alt+c for effects>stereo>pan. There are a bunch of presets, and luckily, there's a nice left to right preset which is just what you need. Choose it, hit enter, and you're good to go. And always remember as a general rule to always save your raw stuff as wave till you're done with it, by no means should you resave an mp3 file.

Brandon, just a tip, lessthan and greaterthan as used in html doesn't work in bb-code. You'll need to use brackets instead. Alfredo, panning works better overall in goldwave. And the nvda addon will announce a lot of the shortcuts you use, such as start and end selection, record, pause, stop, you name it. To pan, first what you need to do is select your start and end with the brackets. Alt+c for effects>stereo>pan. There are a bunch of presets, and luckily, there's a nice left to right preset which is just what you need. Choose it, hit enter, and you're good to go. And always remember as a general rule to always save your raw stuff as wave till you're done with it, never resave an mp3 file.

Sorry it took me so long to get back to this. If you are still interested in Audacity, I guess I'll put this up for other interested parties, you can use the NVDA navigator object to search for the selection start and end fields. Upon finding them, move the mouse pointer to one of those fields using the NVDA key and the Numpad Divide key. Next, press the NVDA divide key to click on the field. Note: This works on windows 7. On my windows 10 laptop, this doesn't seem to work as well. If anyone has a solution for that issue, let me know. You also have some neat selection options in the edit menu to automate some of the easier tasks.

Oh I think that would be a really good idea. Out of curiosity why did you make the choices regarding the vast coordinate distances? I mean how one second of movement is like 30 units different on an axis.Also one thing I notice, a lot of the objects you can interact with (like the thing in the protagonist's house you can move) don't make sound so finding them is difficult.

Thanks, I looked into indie fund before, kind of feel nervous since I gotta really put everything together.I was talking on a facebook group and he kind of gave the impression that there was this larger community of accessibility game developers, but I think now that they are more about implementing basic accessibility features such as those found in other applications. Also, this community seems still quite small, and mainly restricted to mobile games. I really like what's going on there though with so many games using physical movement of the phone for games.

What they do is they essentially find the path from your current location to the selected exit in the locator menu, and makes a sound effect that travels in that direction to encourage you to follow in it. It uses a special pathfinding technique to avoid collisions.Also, guys, if you're encountering bugs, it would really help if you could give me information about it. This is only my second audio game, but I'm working hard for a commercial release. This game uses the audio engine for sighted gameplay so it's imperative that I'm able to get it more up to speed.I've had to focus on other parts of development and I would appreciate guides or tips. Aaron Baker has generously provided me a lot of advice on how to improve my game and I think additional input would make this work much better. I can't improve if I don't know the issues. Thanks.

The posix server you posted literally is just an exercise in copypasting code. It won't run on windows (pretty obvious by the unistd.h include, and the code is fairly awful at best. Winsock or the basic socket libraries don't get harder with more packets, if you know how to write decent applications. Your socket-handling functions should be written in a networking layer of your game, which other layers and/or modules should be calling to. If you have multiple types of packets, you should have something that can be wrapped up in a struct, consider a union with a packet type and the packet header, or you should have something that can easily build and dump packets into a buffer and then get it back.Network programming is hard, but not really for any of the reasons anyone has mentioned here. It's hard because you need to be very specific about your data, you need to handle a lot of edgecases and it's hard to test in many instances. Depending on what I'm
  doing, I use sockets at a low level or I use boost::asio. Just because the library isn't OOP doesn't mean more programming, nor does it mean you can't easily wrap your own code in objects around it. It's really in how you approach it.I've got a game protocol which works great for multiplayer games. Packets are small, sending of individual clusters is easy and it has a really small overhead. It took me about 12 hours to write and it's about 4.5k lines of code or so, but I can literally plug it in to any game I want because it's a library. it uses posix sockets (and handles winsock too) so it's cross platform. The hardest part was getting the UDP right. Bit manipulation and understanding variable datatypes is going to be your friend. A basic ack packet is 4 bytes, for example. Many commands can be included in that 4 byte payload. I'm trying to make it smaller and may be redesigning the protocol, but for now it's really cool. So
 mething you should also consider if you use UDP is creating a snapshot sort of system so that you can just send deltas of maps and the like. You can easily merge your deltas when to many pile up and just revert back to a basic map with no deltas. This is how I handle sending large maps back and forth. There is also some compression that happens behind the scenes, but really the trick here is the delta system.HTH,

Personally I prefer sticking to the installer for windows, but for linux i'll have to see what I can do. I've got my linux vm up and running, though i'm considering installing ubuntu along side windows if that's at all possible with windows 10 being on this machine to make it easier for me to test, not to mention i'd probably use linux full time if their were enough playable games on it. Anyways, an update. I've got enemies coded, including weapons. Porting them to online shouldn't be too big of a deal, meerly sending triggering events server side that should trigger the enemies spawning client side should be good enough. This means i'm closer to releasing an update now. If I at least finish off some activities and things to do online side, and rap up where i'm at with the storyline now, then I can release the update and let you guys have at it while I continue to work.

Well I still continue to fade in and out of existence, at least as far as the audio games scene is concerned.  As soon as the weather outside started to warm up, life yanked me away from the computer.    I've spent time working on my garden, which now has a 15 foot long section growing potatoes.  I've been growing them each year, but this is their first year in a new location in my yard.  I want to see if the soil in this spot helps them grow better than their traditional spot.  It's still amazing to me that store-bought potatoes tend to go bad after a few weeks in my fridge, but when I harvest my home-grown potatoes each October they don't rot all the way through winter and I'm able to plant them in the spring.  I started to wonder if the refrigeration was what kills my store bought ones, since the ones I grow just sit in a cardboard box in my basement until next planting season, but a nasty disaster proved to me 
 that keeping store bought ones without refrigeration is not the answer.  For a day Jennifer and I could smell this stench of death in the house, and it turned out the store bought potatoes had begun to rot on the shelf in our basement, and the smell had drifted upstairs.  That was unpleasant.    We've been growing raspberry bushes for a few years, and last year I started the long process of cutting and rooting new plants along the fence on one side of our yard.  The goal is to have more raspberries grow each summer, but also to have it become a sort of privacy fence on that side.  The bushes take at least 1 year to grow, so this has been the sort of project where you have to just keep telling yourself that the work will pay off.  Finally this summer I can see the progress since the line of new plants is about a foot tall.  I have, and will have to continue my cutting/rooting efforts this summer too, in order to fill in all of the g
 aps along the fence.    2 years ago the pipe leading to my garden hose froze during the winter without us knowing.  When we tried to water the front garden it ended up flooding one room of our basement and causing a huge headache.  As the relatively lazy person I am, I capped off the broken pipe and figured I would get around to fixing it later in the summer... which never happened.    We have a garden hose on the side of our house too, which turned in to the only one we used after that pipe had split.  There was no urgent need to undertake the whole repair process/cost when we didn't need to use that front hose anyway.  Well this spring when I first turned on the side garden hose, the water pressure seemed low.  I spent several minutes trying to figure out where on earth my hose was kinked until I had that sudden sinking feeling in my stomach... this was similar to what had happened a few years ago!  Sure enough, 
 the side pipe had frozen and split in the winter, and our entire laundry room was flooded.  The worst part about it was that I had a shelf filled with hard drives, power supplies, and other electronics that were all destroyed.  Related to this I had a power supply go bad a few weeks ago (anyone remember the Swamp server going offline?), and without my wall of spares I had to quickly fix it with one yanked from another, less-used computer.    I have replaced the pipe for the side garden hose already, but as it turns out, the pipe to the front hose is a little different.  There is an elbow right where I would need to cut, in order to fix it the same way I fixed the side pipe.  It figures that I bought 2 of everything when I set out to do this repair, believing that the same parts would let me fix both spots.  Receipt is long gone so that was money down the drain.      The roof of my garage has been in bad shape for years and last fall it finally sprang a few leaks that were beyond the usual quick-fix.  The time had come to just tear the whole thing off, except it had already gotten far too cold out.  Since about November my garage has had a huge blue tarp fastened over it to keep the rain out, and I'm still trying to find the time to work on that.  The entire roof has to come off, down to the boards themselves being replaced, and then of course it must be re-shingled.  I expect that to be a solid 2 days worth of work, and probably a few extra just for clean up afterwards.  Yay.    I tend to be the go-to guy for family and friends when things fall apart, so I've had quite a few projects going on outside of my own home.  I've fixed a fence, helped change out plumbing in a bathroom, installed I'd say a dozen light fixtures at my in-laws&#

I've begun updating the SFV Trials with Volume 2 content. This is a slightly slow process, however, as I have to experiment to figure out what all the strings are, but rather than waiting till I get all the characters, I figured I'd release them in a trickle.Completed characters will obviously be the ones that have data in their list, while unfinished one's will have an empty list, but are there as part of my editing template (to make my own life easier). yeah no kidding. This is ridiculous.I've been talking with some other devs in indie dev and it seems like what I'm doing is at least novel. It seems like most accessibility in indie dev right now is just adding the ability to focus/use TTS. It's sufficient for a lot of games but my model is more reliable for navigation, although its not quite done yet (as we all know, rip all testers trying to play my game). Funding would really knock this out of the park though, since it functions procedurally instead of being carefully built in like most accessible games seem to be (outside of some on this site).

Lol those quests are rather nuts! In fairness for me at least I believe the problem with the 50 automations is more that I keep having to go through and reactivate about 50 odd things manually, that goes for automations and boosts. When the game is far enough along that I can essentially play it in the background, set a couple of things running with about two or three jabs, then go off and do something else before coming back in 15 or 20 minutes to set things going again, then I think it will feel less of a slog over all, plus  my progress will probably be much more even as well.

Hmmm, maybe drumming up  support would be helpful? You might want to contact 7-128 software, since they do a lot of work in terms of general disability access and advocacy, likewise perhaps Sander and Richard from the game accessibility sig might have some ideas.Of course there is always kickstarter, though for such a large amount of money for an access project I am not sure how good a solution that would be, as generally speaking accessibility based game projects on kickstarter haven't tended to do as well unless there is a preexisting base of sighted users and a graphical component to appeal to among the general gaming public,  look at  Code 7 as an example.

I did not have an exact reason, to be honest. But I'll gladly admit that I gave Sam quite a lot of time to clear that up. The simple point is, no one would have reported this to him. He didn't even have a good reporting system in place for this kind of thing. He even admitted it to me in a private email that he would do better. In essence, we both learned lessons from this incident. The lesson I learned was to contact him first, then report it; his, I think, was to have better systems in place for this kind of thing. @djlex, you've got nerve for saying that I've got a questionable history when you do yourself. I'd go as far as to say that nearly all of us do have a questionable history on here. I do not expect immediate redemption. I don't expect that to be fast. That'll be slow, and that will come in time. I admit that I made a mistake. A bad choice. It may even be a very bad choice. But I fixed it. If you really think domain transfers can
 't take a month, you've got a seriously fucked up view of the internet. My last domain transfer took nearly two and a half weeks. And that was because I had to unlock my domain, disable WHOIS privacy, retrieve the EPP code, forward that to HostGator, then sit and wait. And the waiting was the longest and most boring part of the entire process. I didn't want Sam to go through that, so I restored his domain to him. And it works just fine now. Without my request, No-IP would probably done nothing unless Sam came up for a very convincing argument to prove his case over mine. I doubt they even read the entire report. I speculate that they actually terminated his services because I indicated that his web site linked to malicious software. It does not mean it would be specifically used on No IP; the fact that it was there is a direct violation of the ToS. If Sam does want our conversation disclosed then I'll happily do it. But since he's said nothing on it, I'

I make one wrong move and you guys act like I murdered, in cold blood, nearly this entire planets population and took the atmosphere with it. Let me tell you about my story regarding this game. I got it for Xbox 360 when it came out. Played 2 weeks, and basically never touched it again, for the same reasons you've outlined. Missions are not doable, there is no way you can go to wherever you want, for example if you want to go to the strip club, golfing, back to your house, it wasn't possible at all do to the fact that:1. You can't auto drive to your destination2. The most important part, to me at least, was that you could not use the first person view cameraWhen the Pc version came out with the FPV camera that changed everything. I could easily take a cab and go to wherever I wanted as long as I had the list of Points of interests on the map. If I couldn't find the door, to a building I'd just do like in real life, walk along the wall till I find it. Keep in mind that this is only possible using the first person view mode. With the trainer and the autodrive, now things are a lo
 t more interesting. You can get in the car, select where you want to go, and auto drive to the destination. Regarding missions, if you're getting this game and you want to do missions, get it for pc. There's unfortunately no way you can do missions and auto drive if you get it for other consoles. Here's where things are great with the pc version. Using the trainer/autodrive, missions are 100% doable. I can't say for all of them, because I haven't tried the ones where you need to fly, but missions on foot or where you need to drive are fun and completely doable. You get in the car, select the map, and the first choice on the map is always the one you need to choose if you want to complete the mission. Overall, the price tag on pc is worth it, but I would not pay $60 for it on other consoles unless you're goal is only to do random killing, and shootouts

So, I'm curious. How playable is this game? I was hoping I could do the story missions. I have played GTA San Andreaus on PS2 and I already had my fare share of random killing, shootouts, whatever.My point is, why is it exciting to just do that with these games over and over? Taxi missions might be cool, and in-game they net you some money, but you guys are paying $60 and are kind of missing the point of the game.Again, I like the fact that in GTA V's story you switch between the characters and can switch between them once they become available, but I don't see the appeal of paying $60 for a mostly unplayable game when it comes to missions. May as well get it on console as you can do random killing on that.

I'm afraid I have never heard of any grants in terms of game accessibility, in the usa or elsewhere. Unfortunately it's just plane not a priority. Even in terms of more general access to information technology, most projects I've heard about have been part of a person's existing degree or masters and undertaken primarily for that reason within a university context, one reason why you occasionally hear about wonderful ideas but things don't always come  as complete since as usual there isn't enough cash in accessibility, quite aside from the fact that the rare occasions something does! get developed it's usually based around marketing an existing product to governmental services at exorbitant price, so  among private individuals and grants to establish that research dont' have a part to play. it's a sad situation, but it's unfortunately the way the world is right now even with respect to general access,
  let alone game access, heck my own phd research in philosophy which is on disability generally has been undertaken, part time, completely financed by me since I was lucky enough to begin  before fees became insane!

So what I have built out is a basic corner detector. Basically what it does is that if a collision suddenly changes as you're walking (such as you traversing along a wall and reaching an opening) it will play a sound. It's kind of buggy right now but this is mainly because the wall detecting sound is a little off anyways.I'm thinking about implementing paths that move audio listeners in a certain direction depending on what entrance you entered the map, but I'm still designing it. What do you think? It would sound like a wind sound that moves in a specific direction.

I am curious, are there any USA grants that are for R&D of accessibility? My game's long term goal is to provide an accessibility model that becomes a standard for virtual navigation, so I think it applies.My job is pretty obviously holding back my full potential on this project so I would like to make it a full time venture but I would need at least 2 years of financial support to complete it...

It's great to hear that sighted people aren't getting much more information.In the puzzle where the visuals says headphones are recommended and some tones are playing, I don't hear much difference when doing the right thing.In the puzzle with the green balls, I managed to solve one light, but that happened without me noticing it, and I have no idea on what I did or what to do. No sounds are heard at all after the puzzle starts.In the puzzle where it says: Half circle growing from right at an imperceivable speed, I can imagine what it looks like, but have no idea on what I can compare this to, so it make any sense. Nothing other than audio studying is happening when moving, turning or tilting the phone.The puzzle: Circle with medium lines radiating outward, this makes no sense to me either. The visual don't give me any clue at all on what to do, and I only hear a tone at the beginning of the puzzle
 .Well, the list of visuals which I either don't understand or which don't make any sense for me at all because I find nothing to compare them to continues. I think my main issue with many of those puzzles is that you're not giving much feedback if you're suddenly doing something right, and not either if you're doing something wrong. So you keep trying, nothing is happening and you don't know if you've even close to do the right thing or not.I really enjoy one of the first puzzles, where you can see, or hear by using Voiceover, that a meter is raising as soon as you're doing something right. This is the kind of feedback I'm asking for.
