Re: Live streem questions

Well this is frustrating. You mentioned that you had already downloaded vcredist_x86 and 64 awhile ago? I'm not sure if you would need to install the versions I linked to specifically or not. Their FAQ also suggests installing the [DirectX End-User Runtimes (june 2010)], others also suggest [.Net 4.7 Framework]. Or you could try downloading the zip version of OBS Classic which comes with a 32 bit and 64 bit version, and see if the 32 bit version works. You could also try the [OBS Support Forums].

Re: I'm kind of concerned about the culture surrounding usability

Its not an unfair argument to make, there's been an increase in stem cell and organ fabrication research lately but its still a ways off. There's been more recent genetic [research] wherein they can knockout the gene's for the heart in a host organism, in this case a pig, and inject human gene's in its place to grow a human heart in said pig for transplatation. The rational for this being that we kill animals for food anyways, so why not grow replacement organs in them, such as eye's for example. Needless to say this seems really ethically uncomfortable, how much human could you have in an animal before it isn't an animal anymore, and at whatf point are we just putting a literal pigs face on human grown sacrifices? Its like the Island meets Charlotte's Web.

It seems like the sighted people most capable of contributing reason that it would be more efficient to focus on curing blindness than doing anything for existing blind people. Explicitly.   I already forgot why that seemed like a relevant reply, but I'm sure it must have been relevant enough if I started typing it.

Re: graphics in computers science

My own paint tool [BrushTone] has braille display support, though by neccessity the exact level of detail is somewhat abstracted and you can only view one horizontal row at a time based on the cursors position. It also includes a few other components like [Peter Meijers] image to sound rendering for getting a general view of a particular region, and tones for the RGBA values of individual pixels. I've come across a few other tools like [TactileView] that seems to focus a bit more on the braille aspect, [SVGDraw01], and [BlindPaint].Generally you can approach graphics in a mathematical way, starting with the window resolution and geometrically placing objects based on their dimensions within the bounds of the window. For example a
window thats 640x480 with 32x32 tiles can fit 300 tiles, 20 per horizontal row with 15 rows.

Re: graphics in computers science

What kinds of graphics do you mean? Braille displays are mostly good only for text. In theory, they can be used for more complicated things, or to show more formatting information, but in practice, that doesn't happen much, especially given the space limitations. IMO, there are ways to make most visual elements accessible, though not necessarily practically ATM.

Re: I'm kind of concerned about the culture surrounding usability

Ahoy there.Erm,brad mate, I have been lurking around reading upon this thread/topic and I haven't seen daigonite imply that you/blind people are pathetic,or they aren't productive or they can't do shite. So perhaps you may want to reread stuff again and understand.what daigonite and others have been talking about are the accessibility standards that are setup for websites and applications to make them accessible. and the attitude of the people towards developers and the way they behave towards them in asking to implement accessibility in their apps/websites.@daigonite, what brad and others have been getting at is perhaps because of your using tab to navigate comment. Most visually impaired or blind people use arrow keys plus the specific shortcuts their screenreader comes with to skip passed the stuff they don't want or to get directly to the stuff they want to read. I.E the last post on this topic. to get there, I'd press e
to get to the quick reply edit field, press shift h twice to go to the last post. I would not need to tab from the top of the page to the bottom.Getting back on topic though,I am nither a developer nor a accessibility tester, but I have known quite a few times where people have been outright rude in the way they ask for accessibility, generally demanding. Sure there are rules and the like in the US at least that some must comply with, but what people must keep in mind is rules only go so far. If you want stuff done,be polite and make your request because it is indeed a thing you are asking for,in some cases significant time investment from the developers to make their apps accessible.Certain standards too,are indeed backwards and some I don't really see the sense of, but what I believe is these standards are carried on because this is what these people know about and would rather not update themselves. Why go to the effort, after all. Plus the money making aspe
ct of course. Many blind organization instead of just! focusing on improvement for improvements sake, focus on the $$ to be made along with. I get that you need to make cash too, and all such nice stuff, but what I have always wondered is When are companys and others likely to embrace accessibility more wholeheartedly, where you charge $500 to $2000 just to work on accessibility,or where you charge a lot less to do the same.Slightly off topic again, but I believe if the companys did not have to shell out around $3000 to just employ a visually impaired/ blind person (Looking at you VFO products) the unemployment rate of blind individuals would improve. This is not to say that costly products are only one reason and that other reasons don't exist, but it is one of the factors why organizations may Bork at employing visually impaired people.Grryf

Yep. Email, alt-tags, alerts, popups, a line somewhere that tells you how many unread messages you have... any of these would do. Although, I wonder if the occasional disabling of the PM system indicates that making these sorts of changes would be less straightforward than we'd think.

Greetings all. Todays changes are as follows. You can now sell ships you own, either built with the designer or baught. However, this applys to newly baught ships only. And i've finished some more work on the designer. Now its possible to build rooms onboard your own custom ship, though, this can be a bit tricky to get used too at first.

And well, if you're a person who doesn't like Samsung's Experience UI/Touchwiz interface (even if using a "custom launcher...")I am now rocking the LG K20 Plus , which is sister to the LG Stylo 3 Plus .What a fine phone both of those are!

I assume in this case Avangate is probably just a payment processor, and has nothing to do with the actual product, and can't provide support. Of course if something happened like you made a payment and never received anything at all, or what you received was substantially different from what was advertised, they may be able to contact the seller on your behalf, and failing that, issue a refund and possibly stop processing payments for them. In other words, it could well be that contacting Avangate about this issue might be akin to buying a game from VGStorm, paying with PayPal, then contacting PayPal because your hard drive crashed and you lost your registration key.

Clone CD might actually be accessible, I've never tried to use it myself. I based my comments that it was probably inaccessible on Another Elaborate Bytes program that I have actually tried called Clone DVD which was inaccessible.Starforce caused so many problems that the developers of one game I played called Darkstar One ended up releasing a patch to the game that removed Starforce. I don't recall if it added a different brand of DRM but think not.

Re: Three-D Velocity With Server Update

Hi guys,So, I recently got back to trying the story mode of TDV. And I have a question for those among you, who play the game with a joystick, or something else then the keyboard. My problem is, that I can't make the plain fly straight ahead. It always turns a bit to the left or to the right. Only a little bit though, but it still does it. That is especially anoying, when I am trying to land. I mean, playing this game with a joystick has definitely it's advantages, since you can move way faster. So, my question is: Do you have the same problem? And can you remap the buttons on the joystick? IN every other way, playing with a joystick is a lot of fun. You can do stuff like barrol rolls and the split S really fast.

Re: What is the first thing I need to do in private detective school.

As for Nero, well technically, a .nrg file is pretty much a .img file but for cd's. IN other words, if you had an android sd card and some partitions were not viewable by your computer with explorer, than dd-ing the card, aka making a .img file, would bypass that and make a byte-for-byte image of the card anyway. That's great, but here's the problem. Starforce is not just encryption, it's rootkitted drm. Even though Nero may make an exact rom copy of the image, it still is probably not suited to create one protected with drm. Which is a shame, as Nero is accessible. But we could probably get someone sighted to read the windows of the disk cloner or help make an nvda addon.

Re: What is the first thing I need to do in private detective school.

The problem with Starforce is that it's a rootkit. Starforce is to game disks as Sony Rootkit was to cd's some cd's pre2007. I e, Sony knew it would be a system vulnerability, by forcing covert Rootkit installers to install without authorization when the cd rom was inserted, and once installed, caused your system kernel to watch closely which processes were running, and kill any that were detected as trying to copy the cd rom media. The system kernel was also programmed to hide the fact that Rootkit processes were actually running, so they were running completely behind the scenes, as is the case with all devices these days. Think about it. There are no mp3 players, just general purpose computers programmed to act as such. I e, they are using Rootkits to take a general purpose computer designed to run any program, and programming it to only run the processes appropriate for the device in question. The thing with that is, it's totally understandable for applianc
es and small devices to have that. Where it does not belong, is cd's. Rootkitted cd roms couldn't even play on all players because not all of them had a decoder. It got so bad that some artists said to hell with the rootkitted cd's and advised anyone who was having trouble playing their purchased cd's to download their songs on the network that was then known as Napster. So, with that background out of the way, you now know essentially what Starforce does to your system. It's not just a drm system. It's a system to surrender your general purpose computer to. So it's no surprise that attempting to crack it could end up breaking your cd rom drivers. Hmm, could that also be why Starforce games had trouble with plug-n-play external cd drives?

Re: CodeFactory Eloquence

@TrajectoryIt probably was, I've always been visually impaired throughout my whole life, but until 2010 when I started losing my vision, my vision was good enough that my primary form of transportation was my bicycle, and reading mainstream books wasn't an issue. The first version of the Software Passport user interface was written in Visual Basic 6, In 2011 it was scrapped and a more modern looking Software Passport user interface which was also written in Visual Basic 6 was rolled out. Then in 2012 the whole Visual Basic 6 user interface was scrapped and a whole new user interface was written in C/C++.Digital River kept Software Passport / Armadillo going for two more years after I left due to contractual obligations, but as soon as those contracts expired Software Passport / Armadillo was killed as a product.Armadillo's creator tried to reaquire Armadillo back from Digital River, but was turned down with a comment from a director saying
, "I'll be damned if I'll sell one of our products to a former employee."So the story ends. Digital River acquired Silicon Realms thinking they could use Armadillo to lock vendors into one of their ecommerce platforms, but bad marketing, bad decisions, and the mistake of continuing to sell the key generator source code doomed their idea from the very beginning. We tried to convince them of all of that but they knew everything and ignored us.All they succeded in doing was to take a fine product, destroy it with a bunch of pointless and bloated "marketing enhancements", then kill it.If that's a typical example of how they operate, it makes me wonder how they manage to stay in business.

Re: TextSpaced sci-fi text-based MMO

Hi Soul Keeper,Glad you like the weapon crafting. There was indeed a bug that has now been solved, if you can file a bug we can look to get the parts returned to you or a credit compensation; which ever you prefer. In terms of damage it really depends what you are going for. Anti-Matter is of course very good but doesn't have any lingering effects as some of the other damage types. For example biogenic damage can cause effects that can last weeks and arc damage can cause damage across battle turns. We will look to making level a more consistent term, but the scoreboards should use the same as what is shown in the stats pages. The next division starts at 20 so you may have just crossed the threshold and your division will be updated within 24 hours, but we will check to make sure.

Are things automatically tagged to be sold if you don't have a weapon crafting module yet? Also, my stats page says I'm level 21, but I'm still in led division. I've noticed that the term level seems to be a bit ambiguous sometimes -- the score boards seem to use it to refer to highest skill, while the stats page calculates i
t by adding all skills together -- so which one does the division ranks use?[[wow]], a bunch of new books got added, guess I should try to collect them all again.Thanks.

Re: Help with rooting an android device?

actually, you won't need a rooted device  Unless you're willing to flash a custom ROM. other than that, just flash your ROM with odin, and you're all set. note that if you're willing to install twrp, you can do it without root, then install super SU from within twrp. Oh and for the bootloop, flash twrp with odin, then load it, go to the reset section, and do a full wipe. Then it's time for flashing a new ROM, which also needs to be done with odin. You can ask google for further help, there are a hell lot of instructions and manuals out there

I love this new weapon crafting thing, but, honestly, damage types looks really unbalanced. Why would you ever want anything other than antimatter? Rarity isn't an excuse when it's really only a matter of time before every high end player is flying around with full antimatter armaments because there doesn't seem to be anything better (The comparisons table lists antimatter as being very good against both shields and hull, when the highest rating on any other damage type is good, and even then,, only against one thing, not both). It'd be a lot nicer and balanced if there was a reason why you'd want to use other things over antimatter.

The new lifeform was explained in Tekken 4... basically a fusion of the devil gene and Ogre's DNA, presumably something that would make Heihachi himself stronger... and that boss philosophy is different in this game, since Kazumi is playable, just not in her devil form.

@Orko yeah, I thought it made sense.I had a license for Armadillo (which I never really used). I remember getting a ticket response from a visually impaired guy when I raised an accessibility related enquiry, and I'm assuming now that it was probably you. Access wise, I found that the Armadillo interface itself was always okay, but if the Software Passport gui was useable with Jaws I never got the hang of it.Then when the final version came out, I found that more access issues had cropped up. I raised a ticket and got a phone call from someone at Silicon Realms promicing to investigate. After that I never heard back and I'd imagine it died shortly thereafter.I thought it was a pretty kool product.

Re: I'm kind of concerned about the culture surrounding usability

@Daigonite Honestly, my thoughts for this were more focused on goal 2 as I was picturing general UI stuff. The current project that at least has been publicly seen thus far really doesn't need it that much. I was just thinking more long term is all. As for Talkback, if you're missing settings, I'm probably missing them too. LOL!!! It is a pain, I'd agree. It really could benefit from some improvements on it's own. Honestly, when/if you do get into general navigation of UI there are many ways by which navigation is done. The tab key and it's modifiers are one such route, but on the internet for example, using certain key presses that let us move by commonly used HTML objects, such as h for headings. Now, this one is for way later down the line, but just some fun information is that with different multiple navigation methods, some parts of programs can be quickly accessed. Audacity comes to mind as an example. Using the NVDA navigator object, it is poss
ible to examine multiple parts of the screen at once. There is honestly a lot more to consider when playing with UI standards in general. Like I said, it's something to look at when you get your time back. The NVDA manual is a good read.

Re: I'm kind of concerned about the culture surrounding usability

Listen, I understand the importance of knowing how using a screen reader, but I don't think you understand the point I'm trying to make. The screen reader is one point of the entire accessibility model. Screen readers themselves have very little to do with the problem with implementing accessibility in technology, outside of a few limitations they might have. Rather, the problem is implementation. This is NOT something that can be fixed by just learning how to study how to use a screen reader. Sure, it can help, but considering that my work has nothing to do with configuring UIs at the moment but rather developing audio navigation models and extending audio-game style accessibility into the mainstream, I would say that it is NOT worth my time at this moment in time. The problem I tried to bring up with this thread is the fact that UX designers take advantage of the fact that currently, implementation of standards is not consistent and at a lower rate than eve
r, so they have made a business model to capitalize on this, which may cause a serious monopolization as well as discourage further development. Furthermore, they don't challenge current standards that might actually contribute towards this implementation problem. For example, because of the growing number of people who know how to program, it's far less likely that many foreign-built applications will have accessibility built in, due to different education standards. How can learning how to use a screen reader actually help this situation? This is the question that you have to ask yourselves. While it might be personally appealing for me to understand what you might experience as a blind person, you should think more about what is actually helpful to the situation - as opposed to using precious time that I need to do fixing bugs, promoting my project and trying to build momentum for improving audio models in gaming - which has almost nothing to do with screen
readers and represents uncharted territory outside of audiogames. People already can slap on a screen reader support for many games but that doesn't make them accessible. But actually making a model that commercially shows that it's possible? That would blow the movement in a completely different direction. Not to mention that such a model likely has a wide amount of potential commercial applications that may not even have anything to do with disability. This is comparable to having a project manager learn how to code because it's important to the project. However, it's not their role to program, so they are effectively wasting their time - despite the fact that it might make them slightly more capable at their job. The "harm" that you claim doesn't exist comes from the waste of time resources that I could be using to make a project that blows people's faces off from how professionally made it is. The "benefit" is meager since
I wouldn't even be affecting how screen readers work, nor would building a project that focuses on a screen reader particularly impress many people. You say it would require a few hours at most to configure and learn, but this does not take into account the fact that 1) techinical issues may arise that may easily increase this time, and 2) most blind people do receive some training on how to use one, thus reducing the time YOU might need to learn how to use one. Even outside of that, a few hours can easily eat up most of a day of development time, which I have been trying to get almost every inch out of in the last few weeks after interest in the project has grown. I currently work full time, so a "few hours a day" would eat up almost all of my development time for this project. Before you say it, the discussion here at least provides me useful insight. Finally, I do not agree that a few hours is all that's needed to grow proficient since I have used NVDA f

If you're implying I should use it for a few hours a day until I grow proficient, you clearly have no idea how tight my current time schedule is, nor why I'm pushing 70 hours a week to begin with. That's not to say that I shouldn't ever sit down to work with one. Indeed part of the reason why I got involved was because I would like to use one in the future, but software that I use is not compatible and screen readers slow down my production time so much that I'm not able to efficiently keep on schedule - something that I think probably affects blind utilitization as well. Hi,Checking the github page, there have been people making a lot of updates recently, and some of them got merged with the master branch. While I am uncertain which one, it looks like one of the people making updates might have accidentally removed the freecreds from the stats command. I still, however, propose an extension of the command to let you show specific stats, or even just being able to type commands at the > prompt, like:>hungerYour hunger: 1/100>freecredsYour freecreds: 10.>exp, or >xpyour experience: 10/20etc.
