@26 you seem to be a bit mixed up, so I'll try to help here. If you're talking about NAT it's usually in the context of a router, yes, in which case you also get a firewall. It's just how things go.@25 I agree with all of your points and perhaps I wasn't very clear. I understand that NAT is separate from a filter, but generally your firewall is multipurpose. Yes, you should indeed have your services locked down, but security works in layers, like an onion. Just because my services are locked down doesn't mean it's still not a good idea to put a firewall up. It's literally about slowing down an attacker. Is it the one and only line of defense? Certainly not, but it's -a- line which is worth keeping in mind.

So why shouldn't blind people not get used to it as well?Survive the wild does have full 3D movement, and this is the first game with real 3D movement I have tried. No, you don't have a compass at the beginning, because you don't have a compass in real life. You are using your surroundings to see where you are. STW is a very difficult game which takes time to get used to. This is the first game where I have felt fully freedom by climbing in trees, jumping in full 3D and really get punnished if I failed the jump.

@Dj clue, welcome to the forum. Perhaps some more information about the problem might be helpful here. Eg, which version of windows your using?[ a-t ]I actually wonder myself, given that you say you can detect no networks if it is a hardware rather than a software problem,  I suspect if it was something like over zealous security measures you'd be able to detect current networks, but not to connect to them. Some brands of laptop have a wireless switch which you can use to disable all wireless capabilities. It's handy if your going on an aeroplane. I would look around for something like that, perhaps ask someone to check the and back of your laptop, usually they also come with a light which is on when wireless connectivity is possible. hth.@Ethin, double posting is sometimes unavoidable, especially if a person has a dodgy connection and the page had to load more than once, I've done it myself quite accidently. Try it! I had the same mindset, but honestly I haven't even interacted with the players at all, just been catching and training pokemon. The gyms are tough, and training really does make a difference, or it has so far at least. One thing about it though, the commands are kinda hard to get used too, but you can alias them in your client to make things easier.

@sorressean, As Sebby has said, NAT and firewalls are two entirely independent things. You can have NAT with no firewall, or you can have a firewall with no NAT. NAT is usually set-up at the router level, and while you can set up firewalls at the router level, it's most likely going to be set-up at the host level, not the router one.

anyone heard of pokemon fusion?

I've been playing this for a while, and it's fun! It's a muck, which I'd never usually consider but I figured it was pokemon themed so why not, and it's far better than I thought it'd be. It seems to have a fully coded battle and capture system, as well as breeding, gyms, and trainer battles/trades. Although roleplay is enforced and there are fusions between pokemon and trainers, I haven't messed around with any of that, I've just been battling wild pokemon and leveling up my starter. From what I've seen of the areas, the descriptions are nicely written, but like I said I haven't been playing for long at all so I don't know much about the game. Just thought I'd mention it and see if anyone here has given it a shot. I almost didn't, because of the enforced roleplay, but so far it's a lot of fun and I haven't been bothered with that. Just had to write a description and bio, but that was easy enough.

I have also seen the sound cutting off in the setup play screen. Also, I think some of the coins are placed too far away from the ramps, so it makes it that you drop before you even get there. This can even happen while you're going top speed, but usually its when you're not up to top speed, could they spawn based on distance and how fast you're going, so you could actually collect them?It's only a problem usually until you get up to speed on a faster bike, sometimes even top speed on a slower bike isn't enough.

I agree, I may have considered buying it, but now that it's over a thousand dollars, there's no way in hell that I'd buy it. I don't think Leacy nor Jaws are worth anywhere near the price that they're sold at, so I would probably just get the Division of Blind Services to buy me a copy. Unless you have a lot of money, I would strongly recommend you not waste your time with the product, and especially not for a game like q9.

Exactly how ideal are we talking? Because ideal would be a full page with sufficient pressure sensitivity to use an on-screen keyboard when necessary. Exactly what OS, software, etc additional features are available pales in comparison to having more than one line.But if we're focusing on things that will happen without the intervention of the supernatural, then yeah, let me connect it to whatever mainstream device and use it to edit text documents. I don't want internet on my notebook. A calculator wouldn't hurt, I guess, but meh.

Fun game and idea. Been playing it now for a few days and like it. I didn't particularly care for the slog it was to get from level 1 to 15 though, when I got my first gun. I found that it was pretty boring and really hard to make it through those levels. Not that it's worth anything, but might I suggest adding in either some lower level guns for those levels, instead of the knife or making it to where the progression from 1 to 15 isn't so drawn out?Pretty fun though. I feel incredibly stupid right now.I just realized why I was still having issues with the game freezing and such. When I extracted the new version, I placed it in the directory where the old version had been previously. However, I also moved the old version into a different folder, just in case I encountered any showstopping bugs.Well, the desktop shortcut I created manually was still pointing to the old version. I most likely never would have realized this if I hadn't finally decided to get rid of the old version. Lo and behold, my shortcut didn't launch, I realized my mistake, and could have smacked myself for the sheer duh factor. So, let me actually play the new version and then see what I have to say about it. Because in my quick test I just performed, it did tell me how many coins I collected. So sorry about reporting that. I could just edit my earlier post, but I'm really not a fan of doing that. It seems disingenuous.

Your ideal Braille display

There are so many choices in the Braille display community.  I'm just curious for my own sake what you look for in a Braille display.  If you could craft the perfect device for yourself, what features would you or would you not include?  I ask this after reading many things about different models, and seeing how certain series offer different features than others.I, myself, only use Braille displays as a peripheral with light notetaking capabilities.  If the device can connect to Bluetooth devices and function as a display and do it well, you have my attention.  If this device can do basic notetaking operations, such as reading and writing MS Word documents (.doc, .docx, RTF, etc), then we're in business.  Where I think I lose interest is in units that utilize OS's based off of Android.  Furthermore, I'd rather send emails, listen to music, and browse the web on my phone or tablet versus on my Braille device.  As p
 reviously stated, I'm more of a "use Braille as a monitor" type of guy.  Why would I go to a buffet if I'm just looking for one plate of food?  There is nothing wrong at all with Braille displays integrated with Android OS, it's just not suitable for my taste.So what unit do I own, then?  Baum USA's VarioUltra 40 was the closest thing I could've gotten to my preferred hardware and capabilities in a Braille device.  The keyboard layout was appealing to me, the form factor is slim and light, and it can pair up to four Bluetooth devices and one USB device.  The drawbacks?  Not being able to save in .doc or .docx file types.  I know I said above being able to read and write in those file types would be ideal for my perfect unit, but the other qualities outweighed the drawbacks for me, so I decided to pull the strings and go for this display.I went through a series of devices over the past 15 years. 
  First up was the original Braillenote from HumanWare.  I don't remember enough about it to give a great analysis and opinion, but I do know from memory it got the job done.  Next up was a PacMate from Freedom Scientific.  Can anyone say junk?  Nothing but problems and issues from day 1.  I was not impressed, but the school district had purchased it at the time and I had no other choice.  Then I went to the Braillenote Apex from HumanWare.  Is it me, or did the Apex (and the Braillenote series in general) become the golden standard for students enrolled in K-12 schools?  Everyone I knew in school had a Braillenote Apex.  I guess it was the hottest display of the decade, and no other display became popular enough to compete with the Apex.  That isn't to say the unit wasn't good, in fact, it was great for what it was meant for -- notetaking and everyday tasks.  What deterred me from keeping mine was the horrid clean
 ing services HumanWare provided.  The dots became worn and weak after 9 months of usage.  Granted, I was irresponsible and didn't clean it myself, but I almost would 100% expect it to be returned to full firmness.  Instead, it was returned in much the same condition I sent it in.Now I'm working on the Ultra.  Outside of a shorter battery life and the inability to write .doc files, it's the perfect unit.So, where do you all fall in the spectrum?  I'm interested to know what tastes are out there, especially since this day in age Braille isn't as ubiquitous as it used to be.  What do you look for in OS, what tasks it can do, form factor, keyboard style, how many cells, etc?Thanks,Luke

Mainstream console games which required special attachments include Duck Hunt (requires light gun), Mario Paint (requires SNES Mouse), ... come to think of it, those are the only examples I can think of ottomh.Don't have a mouse? Haven't learned how to use a mouse? Buy tiny netbooks because you don't expect to ever need a mouse? I suppose you can do what I did and start duck Hunt just to watch the ducks fly away repeatedly. At least Swamp is playable without a mouse, if far less elegantly.having said that... does jaws still do the thing where you can move the mouse with keyboard commands? I couldn't find that when i last checked last year. But in older versions of jaws, you could move the mouse (I think with alt+shift+arrows), and adjust the increment via the insert+space options. I don't know how that interacts with Swamp (but considering that I used it in VB programs before, I'dn't be surprised if it did _something_), and 
 I remember trying it with Java 6 but I don't recall the results.

Open AL for handle better sound positioning could help. And a GUI for menus works great too. Maybe instead of a recorded voice for announcing the scores you use the android's speech library, forcing the current voice to speak instead. Still having a lot of fun in this game, tomorrow i'll be playing with my friends to see how the multiplayer system works.

I looked in the forum, and there was a lot of talk about making a guide for RE 6, but apparently nothing ever got completed, because I never found a post with a finished guide.  I saw two recordings of the first chapter, but that was all, and there was no explanation to go with it, just the game itself.  Unless I just didn't see it.  Also, the only version I see is on Steam.  Is this version still playable?  If there is, indeed, a completed guide, please let me know.  The two recordings I saw were cool, but don't help, because there's no actual explanation to go along with the recording.  Thanks.As far as adventure games, which of the Telltale Games are actually ones that can be completed?

SoLoud for audio processing, it has filter and other things and you can implement more on it and it is under zlib license2. bullet, which is the most powerfull physics engine and GTA IV and GTA V use it, and many games and robot simulators use it3. ode, another physics library, but it is not as mutch powerfull and fast as bulleti wish these can help you about audio and physics

So, the version number that the Braille Plus shows me when it powers on makes me think that this may very well have been a Beta. 16.01.20 DEV is similar to the way that APH showed official update revisions for the device, minus the DEV part. I'm gonna try to reach out to them directly and find out if they simply have a way of getting the latest stable version of their software back on the device... Right now, I need a word processor capable of handling Braille a heck of a lot more than I need a last-minute beta.

Ghorthalon has already said that this game will not have missions, but maybe if it goes open source at some point then it might happen. At the moment the game is enjoyable and sounds great, but I find I only play it for 10 minutes or so because there's nothing really motivating me to keep trying in that way where you suddenly look at the time and find you've been playing for two hours. The arcade game, hang on, where you got on a mock up of a real superbike with a screen on the handlebars, and banked it to turn was one of my favourites as a kid. It was like cyclepath in that once you crash it's game over, but it had stages that started off quite short but got longer and longer. I never beat it, but I had some good runs, and the fact that you complete individual stages gave you a sense of triumph and achievement, and a moment to gather yourself for the next stage. I really think that sort of thing would give cyclepath more playability. Like distance stages, or collec
 t so many coins in a certain time or whatever. It'd give you something to tick off, and I think that sense of progresss is a hugely important aspect of gameplay. I appreciate Ghorthalon is busy ironing out bugs, so this isn't a suggestion, merely wishful thinking.

I may have to do that at some point if I get the urge to play any of the BSC titles badly enough. It's looking like that might be the only option.Yes, as far as I can tell, this issue got worse when the Creator's update came out. On the anniversary update, it took a bunch of fiddling, but I did eventually get them all to run. As I said, I really don't know what exactly the final piece of the puzzle was that got them working. Oddly enough, on that machine, Hunter was the only game that gave me a lot of problems. It would often freeze, or the sounds would randomly stop playing. On this computer, Hunter works great, but the rest, including Classic Pipe and Classic Troopanum, do not.

Back in the 70s, every Sunday morning I could be found listening to Kasey Kasum's American Top 40 on the radio. This was a program that counted down the top 40 songs of the week based on record sales and radio air time.Lately, I've found that there are some oldies radio stations that play those old AT40 programs from the 70s. Oh it adds things like multiple clipboards, a global contacts directory, internet radio, and bookmarks that not only remember the page but a specific location on the page, and other stuff.They're nice to have if you want them, I just think it's a bit over priced.And except for Q9, the games module is almost pointless.

Is this behaviour exclusive to the Creator's update? There's a similar discussion going on over at blind-gamers. It doesn't look too good. Clearly the games have not changed.If you know VMWare you can whip yourself up an XP machine and then turn down the audio latency. Yeah it's painful, but it's a one-time setup and all this nonsense goes away.

For your first question: yes, you can do that. BGT's vectors contain a lot of this functionality, though. Saying v3=v1+v2 is equivalent to saying v3.x = v1.x+v2.x; v3.y=v1.y+v2.y; v3.z=v1.xz+v2.zIf I understand your second question correctly, that's where you'd use the trig functions.

I am having the same problem. Hunter works okay, though there is an odd error message when finishing a normal game (though not a random adventure) however pipe 2 and troopanum 2 I am having no luck, I get the dam error message. I've also tried all the things Turtlepower mentioned and none of them did any good. It's a shame I'd love to get pipe 2 and troop 2 working,  also rather odd considering that these are literally the only! games I've had trouble running on windows 10. superliam, Kitchinsinc, the Esp pinball titles, all are absolutely fine.

resident evil 6 is pretty doable, you need some patience for completing some of the puzzles. but overall, the game is pretty much playable. there is an objective locater that you can use by pressing the L2 button or the left trigger button on a controller or the Q button on the PC that will instantly direct you to the objective.as for the menus and such, you can look somewhere else in the forum. they've done several recordings and even lists the menus for the game.

I must say I have been enjoying this mud. Oh, I'm the individual who didn't realize that chat still logs you as a guest even while logged into a character for what ever reason I didn't think that through. LOL!!! @CAE,I've created a script that I want to contain all of my math functions that are going to be used across the code.  I want to be able to call the math functions from anywhere else in the code and just plug in the relevant parameters.  I don't want to have to repeat code.  For example, I've created a function that will convert radians to degrees, and one to convert degrees to radians.  I'm going to need ones to add, subtract, multiply and divide vectors, and one that will calculate the magnitude of vectors.  If I remember correctly, the formula is A^2+B^2 = C^2 for 2d, and A^2+B^2+C^2 for 3d magnitude calculations.  I want to be able to make these calculations on the fly, so I need to figure out a way to make it so that they will take values from any vector.  In other words, I want the functions to be generic and able to perform calculations on any vector I pass it as a parameter.  For example, like this, magnitud
 e calculation:float GetMag(vector){return mag = square_root(vector.A*A+B*B+C*C);}Then, in other code I can just say:GetMag(velocity), or GetMag(direction), GetMag(Whatever), etc.  I should be able to do the same with the other arithmetic operations as well, like float Add(vector), float sub(vector), etc.  Am I doing that correctly, or is there a different way to implement that?Next question.  I have implemented the ability for the player to choos the angle of his shot...anywhere from 0 degrees straight ahead to 90 degrees to the right, and from 270 degrees to the left, through 359 degrees back to straight ahead.  So let's say as a player I want a shot of 25 degrees...not straight ahead, but not directly diagonally, or maybe I want a sharper angle across the grid, say 75 degrees...not directly straight to the right, but more than diagonally.  So once I choose, how do I then have the ball move at that actual angle
 ?  Let's say I'm mad because you just scored on me, so now I want you to have to run your ass off for the ball, so let's say I choose 75 degrees.  A 45-degree angle, or 0.78552 radians, would be a 1:1 ratio, x to y movement.  With a 75-degree angle, or 1.3092 radians, the ball would move more along x than y, but would still move on both axes.  Having both of those numbers, what is the best way of incorporating that into a vector to tell the ball to move at that angle, and have it calculate exactly how much to move along x and y to accomplish that?  Thanks.JLove

Leasey is a set of scripts for JAWS that add a bunch of features and tools to JAWS as well as providing a controlled environment for computer beginners to help them learn to use their computers. As the beginner advances, the controlled environment can be switched off when it is no longer needed, yet all the added features and tools remain.I made the mistake of buying it, because for what it is, it's way over priced.I uninstalled it long ago and just use JAWS without it.AS far as the rumor of making the games module a stand alone product, I haven't heard that and seriously doubt that will ever happen.Even if it was made a stand alone product, I doubt there would be many buyers. One reason would be that most of what's in it is freely available elsewhere, for example it has all of the Spoonbill Blind Gamers games, the RS games client, most of Jim Kitchen's games, and Park Boss.The games that are exclusive, not available anywhere 
 else, most are written in BGT so there's the BGT & JAWS keyboard hooking conflict, and you can't get around that problem by using another screen reader like NVDA because the games are written using the JAWS API instead of the standard accessibility API that works with any screen reader, so if you are unlucky enough to be bitten by the keyboard hooking conflict most of the exclusive games are unusable. The only exclusive game that would be at all usable would be Q9 and that's because it was an outside acquisition rather than something written specifically for Hartgen.

I have been trying to figure that out for a while. All I know is that somewhere there is a massive memory leak. BGT is 32 bit, so after 3 or 4 gigs don't know which, the program will crash, and my thing that makes sure the server is always running is forced to restart it.

So, though it's against my better judgement, I figure I'll post here. Maybe it's a chance for me to speak clearly. Mostly, as some of you knew when you saw my name, about the status of clones. There are different types of clones. There are clones of a game where someone honestly takes there time and spends hours and hours coding the game. But the clone that is always talked about here is code steeling clones. I'm not gonna go to deep into it because I don't want to start any drama though I will say this topic has been going extremely well  So. It actually all starts with survive the wild. In this long chain of games stw, redspot, ultrapower, tk, all these games, there very base is survive the wild. In this line of games, I was the one who figured out how to use the network object in BGT to make good online games. Doubtless others knew how it worked, but no one
  really acted with it. So I made survive the wild's base, you could just create an account, log in and walk around the map, that was it. Mason at that time wanted to create ultrapower. So, I trusted him with survive the wild's base. So ultrapower was made. Over a year or so, some drama in between, both stw and ultrapower flourished. Then, threw a pretty complicated series of events, ultrapower's code was stolen. That code was used to make dazafio mordal or how ever you spell it, BTB, all that stuff. So once ultrapower died, me and mason got together and decided to make a new fps sence we lost ultrapower, and we called it redspot. After a while however, ivan the developer of TK, managed to hack into both mine and mason's system's and steel a lot of code. This includes stw, redspot, all this stuff. He used redspots base, to make TK then just added features to it. So in short that's the entire line. No doubt complicated etc, but that's pretty much wha
 t happened. But this is the undermined thing. When people who know what happened say cloned, we don't mean someone sat down and wrote there own copy of our game with it's features. We mean the source code to our game was stolen, and used to write another game. So now the time I put into writing redspot, is being used to make ivan money for TK. I'm not saying all of this to try to start drama or anything, just to make sure that people know what happened. I must say it is not a pleasant experience watching people enjoy TK, knowing in my mind that the reason TK exists in the first place is that redspots source was stolen from me. Say you spent 2 months working on this excellent presentation for school. You did it honestly, you worked really hard on it, you even spent money to purchase books and information to complete your amazing presentation. But then, the night before you are to present it, your house is broken into and your presentation is stolen by another kid in cl
 ass. The kid who stole it worked threw the night to modify it to his personal liking, then went to school, presented it, and got the fame of the class. And you are sitting there, watching it be presented by someone other than you, knowing that you spent the time making it. That would not feel very good would it. That's how I feel. That's how I have felt for about a year now. The killer, that DM game, btb, all however distantly using my codebase. Especially the killer. And I'm not even speaking for mason here, who got his ultrapower code and other game code stolen, that was also used to make BTB, and other such games. I don't expect you guys to care much. You see a working game and you enjoy it. I understand that. Why should you care about the games origin if it's there for you to enjoy. But for anyone who does care, that's what happened. I just saw this topic as a Spam? to hopefully be at least a little bit heard.

Honestly, that's a matter of getting used to. At first, I also thought mouse is going to be a problem when playing Swamp, well, it wasn't. I even enjoy playing Daitona now a days. So, is it possible to make a game that amazes everyone? Well, judging by my experiences, no. Even on Swamp, we had a big difference in performance between those who play using the mouse, and those who doesn't. And Rastislav presented good reasons for us to want to use a mouse when playing the survival aspect of the game.Not trying to offend anyone, but its just that it can be a bit frustrating to the developer's end having to adapt the game when there's no real reason for that. And we don't want to halt Rastislav's motivation to work on the game, do we? Best regards, Haramir.

Leasey is a set of scripts for JAWS that add a bunch of features and tools to JAWS as well as providing a controlled environment for computer beginners to help them learn to use their computers. As the beginner advances, the controlled environment can be switched off when it is no longer needed, yet all the added features and tools remain.I made the mistake of buying it, because for what it is, it's way over priced.I uninstalled it long ago and just use JAWS without it.

That's my only problem with Phillip and Blastbay. He makes some great games. That's for sure. However, Instead of making Q9 freeware (so that everyone can enjoy it), he says "Oh, I know what I'll do. I'll just give Hartjen Consultancy the right to make my game even more expensive!"

I have to agree with afrim though. I could get a 200 dollar tablet and an Orbit Reader 20 and the cost is still not even close to 5000 dollars.It's great that Hims is jumping ship from Windows CE to Android though.

Has anyone done a guide on how to work with Resident Evil or any of the others that you listed?  I assume that Jaws will not work with any of the menus in any of them, and once you get into the actual gameplay, I suspect it's impossible to get it to work at all.I have the patience to complete it if I know what I'm doing and if I know that it is actually genuinely possible to accomplish that goal.JLove

You got quite a lot of point there, boomstick. Area level range usually include remort too, and so far we can't actually tell besides "consider" how tough thhey are, which sometimes can be untrusworthy. Quests are sorta like that, some at least, and that's why we usually do it only whenwe're ready and have stuff prepared.
