Are there plans to expand the game in the future? I've beaten it on easy and normal and got bery close to beating it on hard. Some thimgs I'd like like to see in the future include an achievement system, a fillable monster database, maybe different endings depending on what final boss you get and maybe a little more lore on the land. A graveyard for fallen adventurers would be nice, though since we already have a high score system I don't mind its absence so much.

Re: SoundRTS, a real-time strategy audio game

Turns out copying and pasting the lines for s and ctrl s to select all soldiers to the new bindings file fixed it. Maybe it's because the original one still uses that file's definition for SOLDIER. The other issue, where unassigned key groups end up selecting random things, is not really much of a problem, just strange.

Re: PenFriend audio labeller and card games

I've got a penfriend but haven't tried this out, though interestingly enough I do believe there is a company who make braille sleeves etc for games see http://www.64ouncegames.com/ShopCart/ for details (they do have several versions of cards against humanity).  As to the idea generally though, the only major problem I see is that firstly the penfriend does need to be a bit precisely placed to read the label, and secondly that it has an annoying habbit of turning itself off if not used (this is something I've sometimes found a miner pain myself when labelling a lot of cds). If you can get around those two problems things should be okay, though personally being lazy I'd probably check whether 64 oz games have what your looking for first off . I'd actually be interested in some of these myself accept that  at the moment my lady and I aren't really around many people who play those sorts of games much, which is a miner inconvenience, though if this situation changes its something we'd have in mind for the future.

Line 43: See 1.4. Line 51: You've got a / here. Remove it, unless you mean a comment. And same thing as 1.5. Line 59, 68, 70: see 1.6. Lines 69, 71: change getLine to getline.7. Re: About C#. Keys

2019-01-08 Thread AudioGames . net Forum — Developers room : Ethin via Audiogames-reflector

Re: About C#. Keys

WPF. In a game. Seriously? What kind of BS advice is that? When your playing a game you don't want full-on GUI event loops running. You want all of that integrated. If possible, you want the game framework to provide you the tools necessary to draw 2D or 3D GUIs, and you want the framework to allow you to intercept particular events to make those GUIs accessible. You never want to ever start another GUI loop alongside your games update loops. That will hold your update loops until the GUI terminates, which usually never happends until you want to exit a program. WPF was *not* designed to be used that way. No normal GUI system was designed to be used that way, and getting a game framework to meld with a GUI framework that wasn't specifically designed with gaming in mind is only going to give you headaches and rages because your code malfunctions.@Rastislav Kiss, have you ever developed an actual audio game in C#? Clearly not. Here's some actual information that will aid people in developing C# audio game frameworks in any language:* Either use events, signals and slots, or whatever you can to make your game as asynchronous as possible. Try to avoid callbacks; callbacks can get ugly, very, very fast. Then again, events, signals and such can also get ugly really fast, so be careful about nesting them and all that.* Do not, under any circumstance, use a full GUI event loop in your game. Ever. Only do that before the main game loop takes over (i.e. a registration dialog before the game has even been initialized and such). Even then, try to meld that into the game itself. Avoid GUI loops if possible; they complicate things and can really fuck your project up. Modern game frameworks have replacements for GUI loops that are strictly designed to be rendered in a game.* Don't try and divide your code into "windows" and such. That just won't work.* Your game will always have a central method that's usually called 'update()' or something like that. That is your central "event loop", where all the magic happens. Branch out from there. All of this goes for any game being developed in any programming language. Unlike some in this topic, there *are actually* game frameworks for C#. Guys, before you say that there is not something in a particular language, do your homework. A particular place to find game-related stuff are in locations like https://awesome.re, and its links. In particular, pay attention to the various back-end, front-end, and programming language sections of that page. And yes, I, unlike people like Rastislav Kiss, actually do know what I'm talking about regarding developing games in C# and C++; I've made prototypes using game frameworks, and have done a hell of a lot of research on this very topic. I have helped write games in C++ (and then aided in the rewriting of them in Python). I think my knowledge, and references, can be trusted. In C# you do have game frameworks; frameworks like MonoGame, CocosSharp, Duality, and others. In C++, you do, also, have frameworks; in particular, bs::framework, Acid, Allegro, SFML, SDL, and so on.

I did a podcast a long time ago as to how to set up a Raspberry Pi. It was an old version of the Raspberry Pi, but it's still somewhat relevant. Unfortunately, the website where this podcast was hosted is no longer maintained. If you can find a copy of it, I'd say that's a good resource. Otherwise, you might want to check out the raspberryvi.org website.

Hello. As for issues, yep I am aware of that, however that was an issue with the main developer, not administrators. Normally, users wont have any interaction with him in any case. For offline games, I don't think this will unfortunately be possible, however you will be able to play offline using the old client. Games are on the server, however I'm not the developer and maybe something can be done in the future.

Yes, he is. There are certain types of side scrollers that have limited vertical movement as well, and that actually do bring you back in a circle if you don't go out the right exit. There's a term for them, but I don't remember what it is. IT isn't a typical side scroller where the screen just keeps scrolling to the right as you move. Many games have done this since the 90s. That's where all the secret paths, hidden items and stuff can be found.

Now, go download Cheat engine, speed the game up, and see how bad you do.  Used to jumping a little earlier just in case you don’t want to overshoot the spot, well, you can’t now. Jumping time is a lot shorter.  Used to taking your sweet time on some games, I have bad news for you. You have that time divided by two to complete the game.  What I did is I sped up everything. All the games features, all the timers, all the monsters, enemies, everything.  It all moves 100% faster now.  As for my reasons of doing it, it simply has never been done before. Nobody was crazy or stupid enough to speed the game up by two.  It was also a way for me to learn a bit of humility.  You see, when I play an online matches, I rarely lose.  So part of it was me getting bored and saying hey, let’s see how bad am I going to be when it’s all 100% faster.  Finally, as if that wasn’t enough, if I can get 20 on the game moving 100% faster, it means it’s going to be way more easier for me to get 20 at the normal speed

Re: About C#. Keys

Hi there, just to clarify about my speed of development, yes, it is true that I can develop various games in a short time, if I had already all necessary resources. But this is also because I have coded a massive code base, which I can use as a base. For example my BgtKit library. Currently, this project supports C++, C#, Python, android C#, android Java, android Kotlin and I am about to make a version for _javascript_ in short time as well. In every language it supports speaking, playing sounds, more and less good sound positioning, direct or indirect interaction with user through keyboard or touch and some language specific features like encryption and hashing in C# version or string compression in C++ version, those features aren't integrated in all languages yet. Thus when I decide to create a game like RTR, the most important is phase, where I decide program's structure, development then goes very fast. But you need a good code architecture. not just dividing into files, that is good practice, but too weak if applied lonely. You need to use full potential of object oriented programming, only in that case you will end with elegant and readable code. A status variable isn't the right solution, because it forces you to write many conditions and switches, what is an initial signal that something is wrong in your code. You need something more powerful than just a status variable.I have some free time tomorrow, I will try to write out something, may be a simple sidescroller with a main menu and pause screen, or something in style of Operation blacksquare, I will decide with regard to my actual mood. I will write it in C#, so you can see the code hierarchy and understand it. Then I can show you also my similar demo in Python if you want, which is already coded, in that stuff i have put out all my crazyness and tried to supply the power of object oriented programming with capabilities of Python as a dynamically typed language and results seem very interesting to me. Best regardsRastislav

Re: PenFriend audio labeller and card games

Hmm. That's an interesting idea. Never messed with one myself, so can't say that I can give you a good list of pros and cons, though. For now, my current idea is to put the card in a brailled sleeve, then using a larger sleeve to sleeve over the brailled sleeve. It prevents the cards from seeming marked, anyways. The downside is I have to pull the card out of the outer sleeve to read it clearly, though. Then again, this is for TCGs such as magic, but you could use a similar system if you don't mind having bulky cards...Yeah, you know what, your idea already sounds better than mine. Ah well.

Re: getting started with a raspberry py

Well, I thought I'd wait for a while to see if anyone mentioned it, but there is an image that, although it's alpha, I'm using for quite a few things, and it comes out of the box talking. It's called F123 Light and has a few translations in other languages then English, so you'd want to make sure you got the right image. It comes up into a menu, which uses Fenrir for the screen reader, and by default Espeak for tts.It does offer a way to drop to the command line, and will run some graphical programs with Orca, just not the whole desktop at once. It's a nifty mix of both, and it's aim is to be simple to use.The link for it is:http://public.f123.orgThere's a guide that tells you how to use it, and you can get the image onto the sd card in the usual ways either from Linux or windows. You'll want at least a 16 gig sd, I use a 32 because the Canakits I buy come with them.I've got Slackware and Raspbian on two of them both with talking speech, but the F123 Light is the easiest to use. These critters aren't for the faint of heart, but with a little homework before ya start, they can be fun and sometimes even useful... (grin)Hope this helps a little.Take care...Cheereo!

Re: any horror movie fans among us?

Hi.Well I like horror movies, especially zombies, demons, horrible creatures, and all that. I love the show the x-files, I don't particularly like the mythology ones, the monster episodes are the ones I love. I wish it was a little more graphic that would make it more fun to watch. The one that probably scared me to death was patience and it's nasty man-bat thing. heres the original commercial for the episode , though it's a lot more terrifying if you watch the whole thing. The sounds the thing makes and how violent it is is sickening to me.I finally got to watch the exorcist years ago, and I liked it okay. I thought the tv show was pretty ridiculous though. I love the movies dawn of the dead (both versions), I am legend, the exorcist, the shining, orphan, legion, night of the living dead, the birds, day of the dead, and plenty of others.

Re: how to set up raspberry pi out of the box blind

Your best bet would be to do the following1. Install Linux on your master PC, or if you don't have such possibility, virtualise it.2. DOwnload a Rasbbian image or some other system you would like on your PI3. Burn it on your SD card using DD4. Mount your SD card in the linux system like somount /dev/mmcblk1 /mnt/sdcard5. Chroot to your SD card with the following: sudo chroot /mnt/sdcard6. This is the hardest point, you have to configure everything manually, because as far as I'm concerned you don't have access to the rasbbian installer itself. You would need to setup a network connection, and an ssh access. As far as I am concerned, sshd is installed in Rasbbian by default so that should not be a trouble. If you have any other questions, just ask me

That $140 price tag is really appealing. As long as the phone works well, I'm happy. It also supports USB 3.0 which is nice. Does it support USB PD? Can I charge the phone from other devices and charge other devices from the phone?Even if Android Pi is the last official version, I'm sure custom roms will suppport it longer. That's the great thing about Android.

As English users, you will rarely, if at all have to deal with the administration, especially now when somebody leaving games is being handled by the system, so you shouldn't have any issues.

Re: game - gun turrets - side scroller battle royale - coming soon

If you stop making games because of such comments, don't make them. When you develop, you should first do it for yourself, and because you enjoy what you are doing. When you do it that way, you will know how to handle different comments. Sure, we can all be nice on this forum, but that doesn't mean there wont be some other place full of hateful comments towards somebody. It can be a recording, another forum or really anything else. Better to learn how to handle haters when you start, then to be shocked later. You see some hateful comments, you shouldn't lose your motivation, but instead motivate yourself even more to make something better next time. Yes, I fully agree we don't need comments that are not constructive, but that does not mean we will not get them. Somebody might not just be good in English or even simply trolling, you will see such things everywhere. However, by the time you will learn to ignore trolls and accept constructive feedback. It will never be just all nice and well written. World and the Internet is like that. Anyways, back to the original topic, we will see when it comes out how will it be. The guy simply pointed out that the name is incorrect, so the dev admitted so. Connor points out he should change the title, and that's completely right.

Tiflo space, a social network and a gaming client

2019-01-08 Thread AudioGames . net Forum — New releases room : nidza07 via Audiogames-reflector

Tiflo space, a social network and a gaming client

Hi all. It's been quite a while since we announced any news about tiflo space. Well, a completely new client is in beta, so it's quite appropriate to create a completely new topic, which will be kept up to date. I have created a 2 parts demonstration of the new client in beta, the first part running on Windows, while the second runs on Android. Links of both will be at the bottom of this post, but what follows is the translation of the opening of the public beta of the new client written by the developer himself in Russian. We are not offering you the final release of a new cross-platform client yet, but we are announcing the start of its open testing. In this regard, we briefly describe the main aspects of the internal structure of this application.First, as already mentioned, the new client is cross-platform. It currently runs on Windows and Android. For other operating systems, the porting will be done later, and it will not take much time.Secondly, we completely reworked the server-client protocol of the application, as well as its foundation as a whole. Yes, it took a long time, but it was worth it.• The client is now modular and extensible. After api is published, anyone can join the development and improvement of the client.• Client games are also dynamic plug-ins. As before, they are created using four scripting programming languages: Pascal, Basic, Java and C ++. The process of writing new games is maximally simplified. Anyone can also create new games, but only after api documentation has been published.• Game servers, that is, game tables, are no longer tied to who opened them. The game will never fall apart because of someone else's bad Internet. The powers of the gaming table holder are now very symbolic. The one who opened the gaming table can now in essence only nominate participants and start the game. In the event of the departure of the gaming table holder, the management of it will be transferred to some other participant.• The game can no longer be restarted. A started game can be interrupted only for the following reasons:1. A winner, winners and / or losers were identified;2. One or several participants surrendered;3. All participants agreed to a draw.In order to surrender now it is enough just to leave the game.• If someone is thrown out of the game for some reason out of their control, the system will take some time, now it's about 5 minutes, wait for the return of the player who has gone. If a player fails to return within five minutes, a technical defeat will be counted. Depending on the rules of the current game, the playing will either be stopped or continued, but with a changed list of participants.• When playing with participation of rating units (toys), these rating units will be written off at the time of the start of the game, and not at the end, as before, therefore, flight from the game will become completely meaningless. Even if the player escapes from the game, his toys will remain in the general bank, and will go to the remaining participants after the technical defeat of the player who escaped. In the case of a real technical failure, for example, if a user's Internet connection is broken, as mentioned earlier, the system will wait 5 minutes, doing nothing and only after this time will initiate a technical defeat. From now on, we adhere to the following principle:The bad internet of a particular participant is the problem of only one particular participant, but not his rivals. Each of you has 5 minutes to solve your technical problems and return to the rally. If it is impossible to solve this problem, please, no offense, you will be considered a loser. Complaints concerning the flight of players to the administration are no longer accepted and will not be considered. The resolution of such situations is completely and entirely shifted onto the system.• Game settings are now set before the opening of the game table, and after opening they cannot be changed. Thus, if you enter, for example, the “Mile-by-Mile” game, for which the organizer has set the “with lifting of protections” setting, then be sure that it is with the lifting of protections that the game will continue. In the game search dialog you can see all the detailed information for each published game.• All critical game algorithms are now assigned to the main server. We have previously quite successfully fought with cheaters, but in the new client it will become completely impossible to cheat. The main server constantly monitors the accuracy of the information loaded into the client, and this information is correctly distributed to all players.• Significantly improved sound quality in voice chats. To record a voice message, now you should not hold down ctrl + enter, but only ctrl. Thus, press ctrl + enter, release enter, hold ctrl, speak, release ctrl.• In general, the application has become much more stable and faster. So, we have covered the main

@Defender:Here's the pointHow is telling somebody to research something they want to make, in my first post and subsequent postswrong? I agree with Conor. I'm sorry but if you put things out there, you're going to get feedback. You neeed feedback, not a bunch of people ass kissing because they're scared you can't take criticism. That's part of the issue, Defender, is that a new audiogame comes out...and instantly everyone either praises it.or throws a amazingly spectacular hissy fit when they lose their precious shiny toy. Yes, I have thick skin, thanks for pointing that out. Yes, I get other people may not, but if you're on the internet you should not be on the internet with a paper thin skin to start with because you *will* get trolled, shit talked, and worst of all, offended. Oh my God how could people dare to offend you onlline? /sarcasm.

Re: firefight's unbalancing issues

Love the game, love that its actually an FPS instead of a FPS/RPGISH game.  I am wondering tho, are teams still relevant?  What about the level-up system.  It used  to be that you got more money the higher you leveled up, and now that you lose weapons and money when you either log off and or get killed; is their really a point to it?  Why even level up?  A pause command would also be nice, you know so that if a player has to utilize the commode or acquire some beverages and or food.  I still believe the grenade is a great weapon and that players should start with more than 5.  They would still run out if you started them with 10 so they would have to eventually revert to other means of chaos and destruction.  Keep up the great work.

Re: game - gun turrets - side scroller battle royale - coming soon

@10Snarky is right, you said it your self, it's not really needed when the guy is still learning.Criticism isn't the issue. Obviously someone should let him know, it's the way you do it that matters, and I don't know why that simple distinction is so hard for so many people to grasp.Maybe your one of those people who's always had a very thick skin, and that's great for you, but the rest of us get demoralized when multiple people feel the need to act like dicks, regardless of weather they are right or not, especially if we're just learning something and haven't actually fucked anyone over in a serious way.Knowing how to harvest the useful information from comments with lots of pointed bullshit is a great skill, but it comes with time, and it's a two way street as I mentioned. Their is really no need to respond in that manner when the crime is so small, or say the same thing others have already said if you don't have anything meaningful to add.And my comment about discounting the game was more aimed towards post 5.@11You said allot, but what stuck out to me the most was when you said, a linear side scroller with dumb enemies and no replay value. You have no idea if that's what this game will end up being even if it starts out that way at first, but assuming it will is just proving my point, either that or you just have a bias against that type of game, in which case you'll never be satisfied anyway and should have just not posted when you saw side scroller in the topic and that people had already mentioned the misnaming. But your right about trying to stay as constructive as possible with your feedback, that's what has failed to happen, and that's what I'm annoyed about, not the fact that someone said something in the first place.I also agree that devs should not be treated like gods or that we should be content with crap and never try to improve, but by the same token they shouldn't be treated so critically either, especially if they are new, not charging anything, and could potentially make really good games in the future given a friendly environment to learn in, which no, does not mean we shouldn't point out problems in general as that obviously won't help anyone, but does mean we should think before we say shit and consider weather the harshness of our responses really fits the situation.
