skipping numbers in bgt's random generator
skipping numbers in bgt's random generator I want to allow numbers 1 through 6, not allow 7, but also allow 8. How would I write this line? Also, how would I write a line that allows numbers 1 through 6, skips 7, and allows 8 through 10? Basically eliminating 7 from the list. Re: Is There an Adapter For This I’d probably be using this adapter mostly for my blogs, so I’d be using it with my iPhone. I’m pretty sure they have adapters like that for the iPhone, although I wonder if it would be better to get something that hooks into the lightning port or if it would be better to get something that hooks into the headphone jack. Re: Configuring NVDA Remote Server
Re: Configuring NVDA Remote Server Maybe your host doesn't let you run ports under that account? Some providers, such as seedbox providers, will limit the ports you can open, or worse if you're a namecheap shared hosting customer with SSH or any cpanel websight packages, don't let you open any ports unless you talk to the hosting provider. Assuming you are on a host that lets you run public ports and nothing's running on the port you chose, NVDA server should just run when you run the main file. I think I had to run it in screen to run it in the background. One other thing to check is the paths in your config file: Make sure the current user has proper permissions for whatever paths you used, if you edited those. Re: A software in development to enable deeper communication It's an anonymous electronic pen pal, essentially. But instead of writing a letter freeform, you'll be asked preprogrammed questions (which you can skip if you want) and the answers will be used to construct the letter, I assume that's where the AI part comes in.It seems like an interesting way to learn more about people with drastically different lives, but with most of the icebreaking already taken care of for you. It could brighten your day when you get a new letter from someone you've grown a connection with, or it could help get your stress out sorta like a journal entry but this way you know someone is listening. The low grasp of English from the developers isn't super promising though (if the questions are difficult to understand it will also be harder to answer them) and I see the encryption concerns, but honestly as a non famous person I'm not that worried about people specifically seeking to read my inane self centered ramblings anyway. I assume this app is going to need a minimum of personally identifying info, so I'm not too concerned about that angle either... And it's up to you how in depth you want to get with the other person as well.I can see this being more popular among older folks, but honestly allot of blind people are pretty isolated regardless of age, and I think something like this could have a positive impact on their mental health. That said, with TT, Skype, and various forms of text chat, it's easier than ever to speak to someone on the other side of the world. And for people that have no difficulty starting up a conversation this may not be as useful do to the slowness.I think the novelty of the medium alone is pretty interesting though, as most of this generation or even the last probably never did the pen pal thing in school. Re: Making a Vintage Sounding TTS Voice I wanted to throw out a question for anyone who might have some ideas. I'm trying to figure out how best to transition between phones in an utterance. A phone is a single sound, not necessarily the same as a letter, that you can say in a given language. The list of phones recognized by the synthesizer at the moment can be found at:http://blastbay.com/blastvox/documents/ … oneset.txtAs input, I take a list of phones. For each phone I also specify a duration in seconds. Now, I am trying to figure out how to transition between the phones. At the moment I start halfway through the current phone and begin transitioning into the next. This works for some vowels but is very bad for other types of sounds. I was thinking of having a static duration for phone transitions, and begin transitioning to the next phone once the entire duration of the current phone has elapsed. So if you have two phones which are both 100 milliseconds in length and I have a transition time between phones of 20 milliseconds, it would play the entire 100 milliseconds of the first phone, then over the next 20 milliseconds it would transition from the first to the second phone, and then it would play the remaining 80 milliseconds of the last phone. This gets a bit more complex when we have diphthongs such as in the word I, but I could possibly take the remainder of the phone after the transition from the prior one and do the diphthong transition there. Does anyone have any thoughts on this idea, or perhaps a completely different approach?Kind regards,Philip Bennefall URL: https://forum.audiogames.net/post/406243/#p406243 -- Audiogames-reflector mailing list Audiogames-reflector@sabahattin-gucukoglu.com https://sabahattin-gucukoglu.com/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/audiogames-reflector

dark's complete guide to new horizons
dark's complete guide to new horizons IntroductionWelcome to New Horizons, the latest game from Freeman69, and the first ever audio space trading and combat game to be played completely in real time. Influenced heavily by the pc classic elite the game is a complex space simulation in which you fly around a massive galaxy of 1 systems, trade goods, mine asteroids and nebulae, and ultimately try to make enough cash to raise your rank from harmless to elite. The game has a few place holder, line drawing style graphics, but primarily the gameplay comes entirely from sound, which of course makes it completely accessible, as well as lots of fun.Unfortunately, while the game is one of the most sincerely addictive we’ve seen in audio for some time, it also has a fairly serious learning curve, and that’s where this guide comes in, to explain details of the game’s mechanics, what the sounds mean, how to make cash and hopefully how not to get blown up to often. The game uses the tolk library, so will output to Sapi, nvdA Jaws, System access or supernova, though note that if playing with NVdA you have to turn off the “interrupt speech for typed character’s option” to avoid interrupting the game’s announcements when you use navigation keys. Keys for the game are simple and will be detailed here for reference, though note that a keys list can be found in the game’s documentation, and of course you can always change the keys for yourself in the main menu.W or up arrow: move up in menus, increase your ship’s speed.S or down arrow: Move down in menus, decrease your ship’s speed. A or left arrow: go back in menus, turn your ship left. D or right arrow: turn your ship to the right. E: eject a cargo container from your hold. Note that they will be ejected in the order you last picked them up. F: Activate your auto pilot, press twice to reactivate if you’ve turned your ship. I: fire your laser, hold down for continuous fire. P: when in space generate a hyperspace field in front of your ship to take you to the next system, when on a location such as a planet, land.Spacebar or enter: accept in menus, activate pause menu when in flight.X: exit key for menus, hitting this several times will exit the game. F3:switch between Sapi and screen reader mode. F5: Turn off radar1: Space, the final frontier. The first thing to say about the game, is that space has two dimensions, not three or four or more, just two. This means that effectively, the game view is first person. Your ship can fly in any of the four cardinal directions; north, south, east or west, and many angles in between. Because it is a spaceship, your ship will move forward at an increasing speed between one and ten, you can control how fast your ship moves with the s or w keys, and can turn left or right with the d and a keys. how quickly your ship turns, as well as its speed of movement will depend upon what model ship you have. For example the cobra with a speed of 1 will go one unit per second for each speed rating, thus meaning it moves at 10 units per second at speed ten, while the trader ship worm only moves at a speed of 0.6 meaning its nearly half as slow as the cobra. The game takes place in a well populated star cluster of ten thousand star systems. Each system likely has a star, such as a neutron star, dwarf, medium, giant or supergiant, and usually a freeport trade station, but will also contain one or more planets, and maybe other locations like asteroid belts, nebulae or gas giants (known as Jovians). 1.1: locations. Space contains two sorts of things. Large astronomical locations such as stars, planets, space stations etc, and small objects like ships, asteroids and free floating cargo containers. You will be told about any major stellar locations in your vicinity for example “free port ahead” or “Teran primary left.” You can also hit the r key to give you distance information about the range of whatever location is in front of you, and will be told its distance, for example “dwarf 1.” To move to a location such as a planetoid or dwarf star (needed to refuel), just centre it (check your on track with the r key and keep going, you’ll be told when your entering the location, for example if your flying to a free port station, you’ll be told “entering docking field”, while if your flying to a planet your told “entering atmosphere. All locations in the game, even planets can be entered and flown across (though be careful when flying into stars), this is because all locations are effectively (from a 2d perspective; completely circular, even asteroid belts. If you find yourself stuck in the atmosphere of a planet or inside an asteroid field and want to get out quickly, turn your ship until you hear the indicator beep for “shortest path to the edge” (find this in the audio indicators menu.As a certain guide to the galaxy said Space is big. Re: New Horizons, space combat and trading game
Re: New Horizons, space combat and trading game @Ironcross, snap turns would imho make the game a bit too easy, one thing I rather like is having to always maneuver to keep the enemy in view, changing my speed as I go on, actually that's one thing I really like in the game, how it makes you feel like your actually piloting a ship, and manoeuvrability counts, I like the idea of shields though, indeed some more defensive upgrades would be nice.I'd be interested myself to see some different weapons to make combat choices change, for example say there was a high damage beam which had a really narrow focus, or missiles that went on straight lines from relative positions to your ship, or how about some close vs long range weapons.Combat still remains really fun, but with my gecko with a military laser and hull regeneration I'm at a point now where basically I park in as high a danger rating system as I like, (preferably nine or ten), pick off anyone who comes for me and continue grabbing loot until my hold is full, then have to run off and sell it. Oh, and btw, grabbing/distroying cargo is also a good way to keep the sky a bit clearer and keep the appearence of enemies to something manageable.I am currently on 800 kills and expect to hit elite rank soon, though its going to take a while before I have enough cash to afford to buy a moon of my own .Btw, have jut slightly updated the guide again. The forum wouldn't let me add subheadings at different levels for the different parts so I just added bog standard headings, still that should hopefully make the guide easier to navigate. Really big. You just won't believe how vastly, hugely, mind-bogglingly big it is. This means trying to fly

Re: A software in development to enable deeper communication Hi.I don't really understand what this app is supposed to do. Couldn't you just text or facetime or facebook messenger or whatever else? I read post 1 several times, and I can't figure why I would be interested in an app when there are so many alternatives that sound les complicated besides. It sounds like a slow and awkward way to communicate with people, in my opinion this company should focus on something else, something more useful. Configuring NVDA Remote Server Hi all,I'm having issues getting the NVDA Remote Server running on Debian 9. I followed the instructions, but I can't connect to it. Non-described shows with good narration?
Non-described shows with good narration? We should have a central location with a list of shows that have narration by a designated narrator. I say this because thee are some shows out there, ike Mythbusters, that have good narration and no description. It's worth noting for this list, the show must have narration. Shows without narration that can be followed will be a list for another topic. Re: What is a Man?
Re: What is a Man? What is a man?I guess not me.See, you see these advertisers, the studies, the people who idk, portray men as self-centered and competitive, ya know... fast cars and guns and bar room brawls, stronger, taller, dominant, but none of those describe me. I think way too much and try to see myself as equal to everyone else. It doesn't surprise me when a female is physically stronger than me, because I know several that are. Well? They work out rigorously and I don't, choosing to write long, wordy, emotional stories and code games instead. If you ask me, gender roles are some of the most limiting, damaging things in today's society. Telling someone how they aught to be because of what gender they are is... illogical to me. Maybe there was once a time where it made sense, but even then it would and could never be a 100% fits all thing. A warrior? A protector? A hunter? Me? Bwahahaha! My sister would probably be better equipped to do those things at this point. Gender roles especially in today's society literally just exist to try to make things be what they are not and end up holding things back. I see myself as no better than a woman because of her gender. That's stupid. At the same time I don't think they should be treated any differently because of it. Like I don't condone sexual harassment, but on the opposite side of the coin, I don't think it's my duty to protect women or treat them special because they're women. Again, that's stupid. We're all human, and there's no reason to define how someone should live their life and or be treated by others because of a chromosome. And for this reason, those advertisers can continue pumping out material, the feminists can continue writing, the NRA can continue roaring and sticking out their hairy chests, but I don't hear any of them. I have never felt the need to demean women for being women, and I don't intend to start now. I have never felt the need to live like a "man", and again, I don't intend to start now. So may your words fall on deaf ears.
Oh, and btw, grabbing/distroying cargo is also a good way to keep the sky a bit clearer and keep the appearence of enemies to something manageable.I am currently on 800 kills and expect to hit elite rank soon, though its going to take a while before I have enough cash to afford to buy a moon of my own . Re: Elite Dangerous: Distant Worlds 2 Expedition has begun! As reported by [polygon]:The ranks of the expedition have grown to over 13,000 players since launch just a few days ago and after passing through lovely sights like the Lagoon and Cinnabar Moth Nebulas are expected to reach their first waypoint: The Omega Nebula. The Nebula is home to thousands of independant contractors who work at the Omega Mining Factility, the only place your likely to find anything resembling a drink for thousands of lightyears. So far there have been quite a few rough scrapes, with the deathtoll hitting 54 ships in The View, which is unprecedented with the previous record being 11 accidents. The well known Fuel Rats have also been kept busy offering fuel to wayward and stranded pilots, and a new faction is making the scene: The Hull Seals. This new group of fleet mechanics have come along to offer emergency repairs to badly damaged ships in the convoy, with over 120 calls so far. Looks like alot of the third party API's and tools are located [here] and [here], it seems that players are tapping into a rather verbose Player Journal log file the game streams out to a JSON file when logging events, the log output types with descriptions are listed [here], though may be a bit out of date. Some of them even include TTS for NPC and player chat.Looks like the Player Journal covers things like docking, location, supercruise states, landings, damage, shield state, interdiction states, detailed scan data, and a host of other functions. Hm, the location data is event specific to startup or take off though, not much on orientation or current state data like nearby ships, current status, etc. Lets see here...Seems the more up to date 3.0 Player Journal documentation can be found in [this] thread, direct links [here] and [here]. Looks like players regularly make requests for changes to the journal to get more feedback from the game, asking they post requested features in the bug or suggestion sections of the Elite Dangerous forums, such as [here].Edit: According to the newer documentation there seems to be a few functions added that could be useful, like ModuleInfo which shows what modules are installed and what the power distribution currently is. There's also apparently a new logfile called Status.json that regularly updates with the ships current state, including altitude, latitude, longitude, and heading. As reported by [polygon]:The ranks of the expedition have grown to over 13,000 players since launch just a few days ago and after passing through lovely sights like the Lagoon and Cinnabar Both Nebulas are expected to reach their first waypoint: The Omega Nebula. Re: fighting game creation in motion
Re: fighting game creation in motion Smoothgunner, correct me if I am wrong, but would this be a fan game and be free? If it were paid, you would have to juggle massive licensing costs, which I don't think would be possible. I'm assuming that this would be a fan game, so I will go from that perspective. Now, before I go on to my want list, the internet Smash player within me requests Waluigi (he has to get into one game) and Geno. But other than that:1. Mario, if we're talking Nintendo mascots. Also having Link, Samus, people from Smash brothers.2. Lyn from Fire Emblem: the Blazing Blade. Be interested what her moveset could be.3. Any character from ARMS, such as Spring Man, Ribbon Girl, or Master Mummy.4. Master Hand.I second all the Marvel characters Dragomier stated earlier. And finally, two joke characters:1. any block from Tetris. Iconic knows no bounds. and[q~.][q~.]2. Guile's theme. ChatMUD Opens its Doors ChatMUD is a social MUD (not a game) where people can talk, build, hang out, and anyone can request a programmer's bit via the progbits channel. There's not a lot to say about it, there is a chatpack for MUSHclient, don't know if there is one for VIP or not. There are lots of socials, and people generally act silly and have a good time. The connection info is: chatmud.com port . Optionally, there is an SSL port on 7443.I discovered this little gem a few weeks back sort of accidentally while trawling through TMC. It had no connection info at the time, so I got curious... and I found said info. The opening has kicked off as of today (Friday, January 18, 2019). Re: A software in development to enable deeper communication
Re: A software in development to enable deeper communication I tend to shy away from a project touting AI as the main reason for using it, because AI has become a buzz word over the years and many projects nowadays use "AI" for places where it's not necessary, just to say they're using "AI."In this case, I think a simple template model will do just fine. Where an actual AI would come into play would be if eventually you could just tell the program to write a letter for you without you going through a series of questions, and nowadays since ANNs can easily be run (if not trained) on phones because of the great hardware, this is possible to pull off if you engage the AI in online learning.@2: I think it's too early for OP to answer your questions; they did mention that they are still at the drawing board on the thing and development hasn't even started.I'm interested to see what comes of this. I remember there was a company at MWC at 4YFN in February that was doing something similar to you along the emotional capture lines, but I don't remember the name of the organization and if they even got funded. So it might be worthwhile to look around and find them. These sorts of experiments are pretty awesome and I'm intrigued by your company's willingness to explore new ideas. Good luck! Re: New Horizons, space combat and trading game
Re: New Horizons, space combat and trading game OK, I retract my statement about buying armor. I still would only do it if combat is my goal though, with staying alive, as long as you have fuel, and know to use the skip drive, you're good. Staying out of bodies which can mass lock you is also very important. But yeah, you can sit there with a military laser and pick off a guy in a high danger sector, causing his cargo to go everywhere, then a bunch of scavengers come in, you pick them off, start collecting the cargo, and even more come in. Eventually, you'll have to beat it out of there, because your armor will fail and you'll get beat down, but while it lasts, its a sweet bit of fun. I also love the sound of the stuff flying past you when you blow a ship. Also, that loud thunk sound, I wonder what that is. I think its the item smashing into your hull, but I can't be sure.I used to play Starfleet Command III when my vision was a bit better. One thing that game had was the HET (high energy turn). It was basically a way to bring your ship about, or anywhere within that arc from relative 0 to relative 180 degrees. It had a long cooldown, but it was strategically important sometimes when your weapons were exhausted. In that game, your weapons each had firing arcs, and you had different hardpoints on your ship. You could retrofit it however you liked, given the credits, as long as what you were doing was within the spec of the kind of thing the hardpoint could accept. So normally, you'd try to be frugal about your use of the phasers and so on. You'd face theh enemy, fire, turn, fire, etc. You also had torpedos on fore an daft. The idea is to keep turning, so that you don't exhaust that weapon or weapons on that end of the ship, and also to keep your shield impact to a minimum, spreading out the fire you've taken to all the shields, rather than sustained damage to your one shield. Much better to have something like 82% or thereabouts all the way around your ship than like 53% somewhere, then like 92% here, 78% here, 86% here, etc. The high energy turn would let you come about on an enemy, exposing your torpedo banks to him and letting you fire. I feel that's what this game needs, a way to quickly come about, but at a cost. a cooldown for sure, but also a bit of hull strain. Technically, since is no atmosphere in space, that would be a bit unrealistic, but it needs some way to be used, but not abused. some problems I must address with a specific fps by the anme of firefi well, over the last week of ff, I have noticed two things. these are: bigman, and sebrebivente. I will now address my problems with each of these two players. first of all I have nothing in person against the players but I do have things against their playing styles which they are refusing to change after several messages. bigman uses a rifle constantly even from about 40 tiles away making him one of the most annoying players to attack dew to the extensive range of his weapons. he also jumps around, a lot, and uses syringes when on low health. sebrebivente, he goes in just like any other player. what he doesn't do is stay in. he'll go in, hit them a few times, get hit a few times himself and then run run run run run run run run run run run run run run run making him the most impossible thing to hit you could possibly imagine. well there you go, if someone could like, either do something about them or give me some strategies to help me in the tedious task of killing them, my thanks. Re: fighting game creation in motion
Re: fighting game creation in motion Another thing that came to mind:If you are putting characters from other games into your game, they have to compete with their originals. And they will most likely lose this comparison because you/your friend are a single person instead of a whole company with a quality assurance department and stuff. So besides you won't ever be able to charge money for your game if you're including trademarks from other companies you also are quite likely to disapoint all the fans you wanted to please in the first place. Re: bladed fury, anyone tried it? Hi.I am still stuck on the roof with the archers.I pass through the first wave just fine with one healing item. I kill the guy who comes up, then I have a short cutscene with another way of arrows after that. But I get killed imediately, these things seam to be something like an insta kill obstacle.I am not really sure on what I need to do to get out of this erria.Any tips?Greetings Moritz. Re: fighting game creation in motion
Re: fighting game creation in motion Hi,probably an unpopular opinion here:I was a big fan of brawlers, especially the Tekken series. But I like them for their gameplay, not necessarely for the characters. So just make it not just a button-mashing nightmare and keep every character interessting with flaws, advantages and unique play styles and I will love it.Don't just put tons of interchangeable characters into it who all feel the same. And I don't like the idea of a weird melting pot for every trademark brand out there. I'd rather have a game with unique characters we can get to know than a poor fan-fiction game-adaptation.Edit:Kenshira beat me on this URL: https://forum.audiogames.net/post/406172/#p406172 -- Audiogames-reflector mailing list Audiogames-reflector@sabahattin-gucukoglu.com https://sabahattin-gucukoglu.com/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/audiogames-reflector
