It depends, specifically it depends on the style of gameplay your going for and how often it needs to calculate changes in state, or how much the server controls vs the client. For the most part you seem familiar with the types of data and updating, so let me elaborate a bit.For the sake of argument, lets say were working with an RTS. Now in an RTS there are a lot of units and events happening simultaneously, so much in fact that it would be impractical for a centralized server to update every unit action across multiple players. So in this case they use whats referred to as Asynchronous Lockstep. What this means is that each machine will hold a simulation of the game on each of the clients, and pass only those things that effect the state of that simulation, for example just clicks or actions by each player. When all the mouse clicks or actions have been received each "cycle", their entered in the simulation, and the next cycle continues. To make sure each simulation stays in sync across multiple clients, they use a sudo-random number, that is a random seed that spits out the same sequence of random numbers every time on each machine to remain deterministic throughout the simulation.Now in the case of a FPS, where each player is an independent entity and thats all each player controls, you can get away with an authoritative server model where the server receives player input. Because of the pace of each game, the time it takes for a server to sent input can take time, so they employ something called "client side prediction", where the game keeps running even if you haven't received an update from the server and "predicts" whats going to happen to maintain the illusion that the game is running smooth. When the packet from the server arrives, it "corrects" any deviations that the client may have made in trying to predict what would happen. Players can often see this as jittering or teleportation with lag in such games.Something very important to keep in mind what it comes to network design, is to never, ever trust the client with game state data. DO NOT ever send things like the players position, health, or damage across the network, because if you do it runs the very real risk that people will spoof the packets to change the games state in unintended ways. Re: Accessibility in video games That is a disappointment for me too. It's unfortunate that all these organisations like BDW, Able Gamers, etc. don't share what knowledge they have. Most of their spokespeople are streamers, which primarily do just that, stream games. If they're streaming, they want people to watch and donate money to them. They might explain how they do one thing or another while playing a game, but most people don't want to sift through an hours long stream that, in the case of Twitch, isn't even archived permanently to find out how to pass a certain thing. Next you have streamers like Brandon Cole, whose done some great things don't get me wrong, but the only reason he's able to play stuff like Diablo or Miles Morales is because he 1: has sighted people in the chat, and 2: has a gamer girlfriend who can help him figure stuff out in person when he's not streaming.Most blind gamers don't have one or both of those things. With these networks getting as large as they are recently, it's just sad no one's committing to write up guides for new players wanting to get into the scene. There's breakdownwalls.net, but all that thing has is a bunch of MK char guides which are written in MK Lingo, so you can't exactly understand what they're on about unless you already know how MK, and fighting games in general work. MK is often among the first fighting games recommended to someone asking about playable games, so the chances someone might not know the fighting game vocabulary is quite high.This is what the mainstream gaming Discord could have been immensely useful for. Even if no one ever wrote guides and stuff, at the very least it could have served as a place where you could ask for help with a game and someone who happened to be there could help you out in person, either through text or voice. As an addendum, if you don't already know about them, Google's protocol buffers are fast and small, so you could send them really quickly.Using them, you also get free parsing too and from strings. You could send them across with something like MessagePack for extra speed. Problem when using the dlclist.xml-file(open iv and gta v) Hello! I'm trying to install the burgershot mod to gta v as this guy does(link here)https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1UFO87uV90ANote: if you watch this, the first part of the video is just the intro, where the guy shows that the mod works. But back to the problem: when he says"copy the last line of dlclist.xml what was in there and then replace it with the text which was given in the readme"or something like that, i get the following error when trying to save( i don't remember the error exactly): Only one bottom item is allowed. What should i do? Make sure you're arming the track, you're on the correct MIDI channel (for some VSTs only produce sound when on channel 1), and I guess make sure effects are not bypassed. Spend a tiny bit of the time you did on coding to find good free sounds, that list in the dev room should be a great starting point, and if you need more you need only ask.It's laziness and an unwillingness to learn, nothing else. It isn't even hard to credit people for their work, you just say the username or website, and put sounds in categories all together so you don't need to list links or filenames for every single one.So much good stuff is out there for the taking, but most people don't even bother looking despite it being right in front of their faces.
