Re: Retroarch is now accessible

@ashleygrobler04: There are Homebrew games, but those are probably not accessible. Retroarch is for playing emulated games from older game consoles, pretty much. So, you'll need to get one that is more easily played, like a fighting game. Of course, I recommend Dissidia Final Fantasy for the PSP but that's just me. Others may recommend Mortal Kombat, or Tekken, or something like that. The most legal way is to have your game console "dump" the game onto an SD Card or USB drive for you to play on your computer; sighted assistance will be required.

Re: Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons

There may be spoilers but I just finished the game and still raw from it:Spoiler cats begin right meow:#+begin_spoilersThis has been one of the most emotional games I've ever experienced. And I *live* that you describe the controls, because oh my goodness do they matter for the ending! I think this has been the only game that has gotten me to cry. I mean, there were only like 5 tears in total, but not even devastating music like Mooncake make me cry that much. We *need* more games like this. In an age of games that practically make carnage humorous, the reality and humanity of this game is so refreshing, so wholesome, so great! It's so amazing to feel like a game *matters* for once, and isn't just some time waster or agenda-pusher and stuff. I mean, there were some spiritual elements, but its better than having the character find some "unknown well of strength that he never knew he had" or some such plot device. Again, we need more games like this. Games that make us feel something more than "ahh yeah beat the boss now what?" and all the empty, meaningless emptiness that so many games result in. I'm not saying they're bad, I just think that this one is so, so much better, so much more real, and so much more helpful in this time of division.I mean, look at how the characters worked together! Look at how they didn't even do combat until late in the game. Look at how they *saved* people! Do we get that in any modern game? Do we get that in any audio game? This shows that game developers *can* make more wholesome experiences than "kill everyone," or "kill them zombies," or "kill the big bad boss and upturn the whole universe to your ends." I cannot stress enough the importance of this; games should encourage good things: working together, settling things through the mind and not just through killing things, and killing only when necessary. Why can't we have those kinds of games?I hope that this story urges gamers to demand more from the games they play, whether they have a "filter" to divide their game characters from themselves or not. And I hope it encourages game developers to create wholesome content that gives people humanity, love for others, creativity, puzzle-solving and logic, and peace. Again, thank you, @NortheasternGorilla, for this amazing, game-changing, and beautiful story.#+end_spoilersSo yeah, its an amazing story, and everyone should listen to it.

Yeah, I just use PPSSPP with Lion on Windows now, but use Retroarch on Mac.Also, to navigate the story mode field, I just arrow around until I hear a different sound, reminds me of some ledge sounds in audio games, and usually pressing A on one tells me with Lion what it is. I've not heard of the R button thing before.

Re: General fighting game banter

Okay, coming to this thread a bit late. In Dissidia, to get the pre-match character dialog based on the matchup, set battle cutscenes to long, in the options menu. I have a menu guide in the accessible-retro-games section of my site.Speaking of Dissida, even though I've tried MK11, admittedly using Stadia because I only have a 240 GB hard dirve, I just don't get what the hype is. I mean, its just another MK game. I don't know, maybe Superblindman and I are just two different gamers. He seems more casual, whereas I enjoy more things to do in games than just kill kill kill, mash buttons and maybe learn what a few things do. I mean, even the tutorial, which has little tones for button input which isn't explained or anything but blind people have like, super hearing so they like, automatically like, know like, what the sound like, means like, right? Right?I still love dissidia, much more than any other game I've come across. The chase mechanic, the need to depleet BRV before HP to do more damage, wall rushes, pounding opponents against walls in a sound fasion that makes sense to me, a pretty much one on one meaning for sound and action, racing your opponent to get an ex-core, and the ex-bursts! And let's not even get started on the actually wholesome story, where good clearly wins, and there isn't just like one good person and then everyone else is like, some shade of slightly good but not really. Do we *need* that kind of shadow and darkness in this time that we deal with now? I mean, shouldn't we be putting good things into our minds, and not just filling ourselves with more blood, more needless violence, and for not much of a good reason than to "unwind"? Becuase really, things things do effect you. Games are effective at setting at least your current mode. I'm not saying there isn't violence in Dissidia, but it's not... Murder. It's not wripping limbs off audibly, stabbing with such intent to kill and cuase aweful pain, well for the heros at least, as so much of MK11. And as far as my small mind, which I will readily admit wasn't taught to think critically much at all during school, can tell, there are no huge retcons that turn previously good characters, Sindel, into awful ones, Sindel is now basically a female Shao Khan.So yeah, there's my advertizement for Dissidia, a pretty clean, fun, smaller sized but much more content-filled game than even MK11.

If you're jailbroken, that's great. But I'm not, because I just have to have the latest public beta OS, lol. Also, yeah, I've had the "info not correct" problem, and newer updates seem to fix this, for me. About signing, AltStore re-signs apps in the background, as long as your computer is on and not with the lid closed, so you don't have to worry about that. That's the whole point of AltStore, well besides being an alternative App Store. As for it taking a longer process, yes. You're right, and I think that'll deter many blind people who want some easy fix for playing Pokemon. But if you really want third-party apps not on Apple's restrictive App Store, you may find that taking one hour to get this done provides many more hours of fun!

Well, I'll make a tutorial for that then. Basically, it involves getting AltStore, then signing up for the Patreon and getting the beta, bugging the developer about accessibility using this issue:https://github.com/rileytestut/AltStore/issues/145signing up for one of the AltStore sources, like Sidia repositories, getting PPSSPP from there, tweaking the PPSSPP INI configuration file, and figuring out which joystick presses get you to the game. And yes, it supports game controllers. I have the Game Vice controller, which basically makes my phone look like a large PSP. If you're on iOS 13, you can also use PS4 and Xbox One controllers, too. So it's a pretty long process, but it shouldn't take more than a few hours at most. Also, you can copy your game save data across from PC to phone, and phone to PC… Assuming you have a way to access iCloud Drive or OneDrive or something. Anyone still interested?

I'm learning more about the attack names, as well as strategy, through the Dissidia Discord. This should be in version 1.8.6 if everything is good, and curious users can check out the nightly builds in a day or two if you'd like to check it out. Log message:Includes fixes for accessibility in ozone and gui themes, support for SAPI and auto-packages. Experimental nvda support coded, but turned off.

Re: Looking for a new mud to play

Yeah, missions usually aren't too hard, just try to not kill mobs until your mission is to do so, or you'll probably be waiting a good 20 minutes for them to respawn. It's not hard once you get the hang of it, and even for me, coming back after like, a year of not playing, it hasn't been hard getting into the hang of things. Regarding the universes, there are Fanfiction novelizations of, at least, Chrono Trigger, FF6, and FF7. I'm not sure about FF5 though, or Secret of Mana.

Wow, so much I have to learn. I actually completed a few missions from FF7 yesterday, so I feel good about that. I used the news channel thing to find out about a few of them, and that… Regennisis organization for some of them too. This missions are so memorable, I mean, I've never had to dress up as a girl in any other game to help complete a mission and oh my gosh am I still wearing that dress? Oh no! Lol! And that comment Arith's mom made before we left for the mansion… I still have to get more shells for the RoboCook, but I could see finishing that today.

Jayde, I didn't know about the FF5 area, I'll take a look again. Really, when I complain about something, it usually means I want to love it so badly, but there's either things, like that FF5 area, that I don't know about, or that I see so much good in it. Believe me, I spent, like, maybe a week on UOSS, and loved my time there, just so many mobs to kill and that's it, and that's what, it felt like, so many missions were. That said, I'll definitely try it again. I just hope I can remember all the aliases I set up for it, lol.

Should I post my Dissidia Final Fantasy topic in OT because I desperately want more blind people to know about it, play it, and love it? What about new releases? These are new topics after all, shouldn't we post all of our new topics there too? And developers, too, we can't let them go without reading our topics, which we have painstakingly created. Re: Looking for a new mud to play

My big problem with Squaresoft is that when you get to level, say, 25 or so, and you go through the Chrono Trigger story, you find that bike dude. And he tells you to kill over 9000 robots. What? Over 9000? This machine must be malfunctioning! Yeah, more like 90 or so. Lol. But yeah, you go all down that road, killing bots, and you get to the end, and… Oh hey, um, there's like, 10 more to kill but… They're not there. So you look around, no bots. So you ask on chat, and it turns out that you have to just wait for the mobs to respawn in order to kill more of them because what kind of an end to a quest would it be if you could actually end it in one go? But don't worry, there are like, five other worlds to explore hehe, you won't get bored here…My main problem with all that is that if you are focused on an objective, like killing all 90 of those bots because an arbitrarily large number is a great way to waste a person's time enough for it to feel like a good quest or mission. And don't think about how there is no other story content going on while you kill and kill and wait, just make this counter reach 90! Right meow! Oh, you ran out of enemies? Well hurry up and wait!Ugh, I can't wait until End of time:http://eotmud.comis fully accessible, the overworked map still needs work. I hope it feels more fully fleshed out and professional than a lot of other MUD's I've played so far. Still gotta try Erion though. Maybe that one will be good enough.

The Ex-burst can be used without worry of inputting the buttons when you reach level 15. You can customize your character to add that. If enough people become interested, I'll do a tutorial about that. Also, when you join the Discord, you can download a "tournament pack" which contains a save file, 100% completed and customized, so you don't have to activate any ex-burst command assist or anything. You can customize the characters further, if you want, of course.@KenshiraTheTrinity I'd love to see how good you are at the game.

Dissidia Final Fantasy: a Final Fantasy game we can all enjoy

2020-03-23 Thread AudioGames . net ForumGeneral Game Discussion : devinprater via Audiogames-reflector

Dissidia Final Fantasy: a Final Fantasy game we can all enjoy

With the Final Fantasy 7 remake coming, I thought I'd bring focus to the Final Fantasy fighting game, called Dissidia. In it, you have the main character and rival of the first ten, or in DuoDecim's case, 12, Final Fantasy games, in one world, fighting for the gods of order and chaos. It is more than just a fighting game, however. It does have an "arcade" mode, or simple battles, but also has a story mode, RPG type story mode, ways to unlock new characters, stages, and battle music, and even a way to listen to all of the music in the game. Characters gain experience after each battle. When enough experience is collected for a character, that character levels up, gaining the ability to use new attacks.Speaking of attacks, there are three slots, three for ground, three for air, for both HP (hitpoints), and BRV (bravery) attacks, Bravery used to lower opponents' defense. This allows characters to be customized greatly, meaning that a character can be made into your personal play style.Even in combat, the game is more than just a fighting game. One can send a foe flying, then chase the opponent, attacking further for even more damage, or to weaken their defense further. Ex-cores can be gathered as they appear on the battle field to raise a character's ex-gauge, and when full, a character can enter a mode of even more power, with the ability to unleash a devastating attack on the opponent, possibly winning the match. These games were originally released for the PSP (Playstation Portable), but can be emulated perfectly on a computer, using PPSSPP with screen reader's OCR and online play, or Retroarch with its accessibility and OCR.The gameplay is 3D, with characters able to do ground and air combat. All characters have different move sets, voices, stories, and play styles, but the controls are the same. Original Dissidia has an accessible story mode, but less characters, and is not widely played online. Dissidia DuoDecim has more characters, and is played online in the Discord community of Dissidia, but its story mode is not accessible, however can be played with astronomical patience, determination, and luck. Both games' game play is similar, however. For text notes on playing the game, see:https://github.com/devinprater/accessib … es-list.mdFor a Youtube video tutorial:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4XFFAVvdk3U&t=1213sAnd if you want to join a Discord for talking about Dissidia, finding online matches, and all that, go to:https://discordapp.com/invite/a44rneCEdit: Sorry, tried launching Narrator and pressed Control + Enter, posting the post prematurely.

Great news! We *can* play Dissidia, at least 012, online! Join the Dissidia Discord for more info. It involves installing Zero Tier One, a networking program, connecting to their server with it, and, when ready for a match, adding their IP address to PPSSPP's networking settings, in this case we'd have to edit the PPSSPP.ini file. But I got it all set up in a good 5 minutes, so it's not hard at all. There's a zip file you can download with their standard PPSSPP version, with a 100% completed Dissidia DuoDecim save file, meaning we get all maxed out characters without having to go through story mode, and a file with directions. You have to have the ROM yourself though. Discord link:https://discordapp.com/invite/a44rneCAbout ZeroTier, just use the CLI. On Windows, you have to run it as administrator, on Mac and Linux, you may have to use sudo.zerotier join 8056c2e21c01To join the server, then if you want to host, run the ad hoc server EXE, and get your IP fromzerotier-cli get 8056c2e21c01 ip4and put that into your PPSSPP.ini file, in tournament_pack\ppsspp\memstick\PSP\SYSTEMIf you want to fight some one else, or a group battle, put the host's IP in the PPSSPP.ini file. Also, change the PPSSPP's Mac address. To do that, open PPSSPP, and using OCR, go to Settings, Networking, and press enter on Change MAC Address. It sounds harder than it is. Believe me, if I can do it, you can to! There's a zip file you can download with their standard PPSSPP version, with a 100% completed Dissidia DuoDecim save file, meaning we get all maxed out characters without having to go through story mode, and a file with directions. You have to have the ROM yourself though. Discord link:https://discordapp.com/invite/a44rneC

@366: The thing I was blathering about was that if you don't change it, on PPSSPP, your name is PPSSPP. You can change that in PPSSPP's INI file, I think I've written about that, somewhere… before starting the game for the first time, and it'll have that already filled in. I began playing DFF before then, though, so yeah, I'm PPSSPPDevin there, lol.

@Nocturnus: Don't forget about audio books, typewriters, s and Siri. Yes, I agree that teaching more blind people to code would be great. However, not everyone can code well, and that will need to be stated, because many blind people who feel confident in using computers, like me, will think that they can just intuit how to make a game, and it really can be hard even grasping how the process of coding is done, keeping up with everything that is going on in a program, and finding freaking good utilities, especially on Windows, for making a blind programmer's life as easy as possible, while still leaving the actual code up to the programmer. And I don't mean GUI game creators either, those take too long to fiddle with.

This is why I don't really play audio games anymore. Even Manamon 2 got boring, to me. Dissidia Final Fantasy is an actual fighting game, which we don't even have, just hack and slash. It's an RPG, with a great story mode and everything. Of course, I doubt I'll sway anyone to play who doesn't already enjoy it, but whatever. I do hope, actually, that audio games do disappear in the future, swallowed up into just regular games that are accessible and have great audio as well. I'm tired of the same thing all the time. Shooting, hacking and slashing, it gets boring after a few years.

When I got PPSSPP working on it, getting the app through unofficial means, it ran perfectly on my iPhone X R, even in its unoptimized way, not using JIT.

Re: Flarestar FREE and introducing Blind Quest, a new audiogame RPG!

I mean, do we know that this will be an epic quest? We can't see the code, so how can we even know now? Really, let's just not buy this blind game, if we feel that it is overusing blind, or milking the "blind" stereotype for all that it is worth. In closed source terms, all we can do to send a message to the developers that this is unacceptable is to not buy low quality games. I know, I know, it's hard. Believe me, we've moved on to trying to beat video games because audio games are so few, and just look at Manamon Two for a great view of what happens when new games come out. But for these "blind" games, I submit that we should not buy it, as Souls of Levia has hopefully taught us that even audio games, for us blind people, can be of dreadful quality, and how a game presents itself is usually how it turns out, low quality trailer, cliche name, and a developer who doesn't fix bugs on older games, and who, indeed, has not update the Mac versions of their games, when they've had *years* to do so. We should not stand for this, and should not award such behavior with sales.

Re: Retroarch is now accessible

Retroarch, for now, only is accessible on Windows, Mac, and Linux. However, you can use some original emulators, like PPSSPP. If they are inaccessible, like PPSSPP, you can simply open the downloaded ISO file using PPSSPP from your phone's files app.
