Re: new cell phone recommendations

@joshknnd1982, yeah Tracfone offers the 6S, 6S Plus, and the 7, which is where I have my current cell service through, and the 6S runs only like $180. I have a couple other friends recommending I go with an IPhone as well, and since it's mostly going to be just for calling and texting (not planning any gaming or anything like that), I'm leaning that way for now.@BlindNinja, and you just nailed the reason why I'm only leaning IPhone and not already slapping down the bucks for one, I'm not needing wireless earbuds and would prefer a traditional headphone jack. Thanks to you both for your thoughts, it definitely gives me plenty to consider.

new cell phone recommendations

I'm looking to buy a new phone from Tracfone to replace my ancient smartphone that's pretty much run out of any internal storage for just upgrading built-in apps. I'm looking for suggestions. I want to be able to answer incoming calls via voice, I find it takes me too long to try and explore the screen on my current phone to answer incoming calls before it stops ringing, and my current phone can barely transcribe my voice into sms's due to lack of storage space. Otherwise as far as camera or any of the other accessory-type items, those really don't matter too much to me. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

maximize window using AutoHotKey

I wasn't sure if this belonged here or in the developer room, since it does involve a scripting question. I'm creating hotkey assignments for various programs using AutoHotKey, and I want my scripts to also make sure that the newly launched program is maximized. I've tried reading over the instructions for scripting, but for the life of me I just don't get how to accomplish the window maximizing (most likely because I'm a particularly bad programmer/scripter). I also would've asked this question of the AutoHotKey forums, but unfortunately they use those nasty capsha things for account creation and they set up an admin address for blind people to be helped in creating accounts, but I never got a response. If anybody around here uses AutoHotKey, I'd greatly appreciate any help you can offer in figuring out this. Thanks in advance.

NVDA Weather Plus problems

I think the last version of the Weather Plus add-on that worked for me was 4.7 or something like that. I've gotten each update, yet none have functioned, I've even tried uninstalling, going into my appdata folder to make sure the Weather Plus subfolder was cleared from the NVDA add-ons, then reinstalled the add-on. Whenever I try to go into the preferences to set the city, all the add-on does is make a noise, but no dialogue pops up for me to enter the city, and obviously pressing NVDA+w tells me I need to set the city first. Anybody else having this problem and maybe know of a fix? Thanks.

Re: hd cloning

I finally got the new ssd installed this morning, and after some tinkering between EaseUs TotalBackup (doesn't work with NVDA at all as far as I could tell) and Macrium Reflect 7 Free, I was finally able to get Reflect to work with an old copy of Window-Eyes I still had installed on this machine. Thirtty minutes later, everything was transferred over, and I double-checked to make sure the partitions were correctly aligned. Even with an al-cheapo ssd that can read at best 470mbps, replacing my Western Digital 1tb Black drive has cut a good 15 seconds off my boot times, and so far games seem to be loading faster as well. If I weren't getting ready to build a new gaming machine, I might have put an even better ssd in this older gaming machine with a much higher read rate. Just thought I'd update the thread incase anybody else comes stumbling across it.

Feel free to Google the topic and see all of the relevant articles from legit computer advice sources, PCMag naming one I found, maybe then you could offer an informed opinion on the topic here that might be of help. As I've said, there are  software titles I've found that do exactly what I'm talking about, I was just looking for opinions from people that might have used those pieces of software with NVDA successfully or not. Titles like Macrium Reflect, EaseUs TotalBackup, and who knows what else all offer this, though my experience before with EaseUs was that it wasn't very friendly. If you've used any such piece of software successfully or not, then by all means I'm interested to hear what you may have to contribute. But if your goal is simply to lecture me on the differences between the two types of drives nand inaccurate statements on how what I'm trying to do is impossible, which doesn't answer my question at all, then by all means have a nice life.

I'm planning out a new pc build, and thought I'd ask this question to see what you folks thought. The motherboard I'm looking at has to m.2 slots that operate in PCIE Gen 3 x4 mode using SATA III  or NVME. I'm wondering if it would be best to invest in two separate 500gb NVME ssd drives, one for the os and one to install games and other apps on, or if I should get just one 500gb ssd and install everything on just the one drive? Does installing apps onto separate drives from the os drive improve throughput and reduce bottlenecking, especially with m.2 NVME drives, or would this be a waste of 170 bucks? I've tried Googling and haven't found anything about this being done with M.2 NVME drives, only with a mix of drives as an upgrade on older computers. O.O Glad to post motherboard and drive specs, if anybody thinks that would be useful.

Yeah, after looking back at some of the previous posts on this subject, fortunately a friend still had the 16.1 setup. Once I installed it and installed the Kodi screen reader, poof, it worked. I couldn't figure out how to add an add-on source for a few add-ons, but I was able to find the zip versions of the add-ons and install them manually. Shame the more new version seems rather cranky, but I never got the beeps after installing the screen reader on 17.1.

vm'ing Vinux

2016-03-12 Thread AudioGames . net ForumOff-topic room : jsymes via Audiogames-reflector

vm'ing Vinux

I've only recently gotten into using VMWare Workstation Player, so I could test Windows 10 without dumping my Windows 7. I've wanted to try some flavor of Linux for quite some time, but also didn't want to rid myself of the Windows I've used forever. I'm going to try and create a vm for Vinux 5.0 64-bit, but I need some advice, as the process for setting up Linux seems to be a bit different than the process for my Windows vm. First, when VMWare asks me what guest os I'm installing, I obviously choose Linux, then it gives me a list of some 50+ different flavors of Linux, I'm guessing I pick the Ybuntu 64-bit, since Vinux is just a modified version of that os? The hardware options seem pretty straight-forward, and I assign 2 of my 4 cores and 4gb of my 8gb ram, but I'm not sure if 20gb hd space is enough or not, the Windows vm defaulted to 60gb. When I've got all the VMWare settings correct and the Vinux launches, it asks me if I want to
erase the drive and install Vinux. Since I'm vm'ing, how exactly do I answer this, especially since I don't want my entire hd wiped and Windows blown away. I'm also trying to find any keyboard commands list for once I get things up and running, since this is my first experience with using any flavor of Linux and don't know how to control the screen reader and such things. I tried looking for some of these answers on the Vinux wiki and faqs, but a lot of the info that's there is for 4.0 and not 5.0, and really doesn't go into much about Vinux for newbies, or vm'ing for that matter. Be greatful for anything helpful that can be offered by any experienced Vinux user, thanks in advance.

Ive discovered Google Now, but I can only seem to get it running when in the Google app, even though Ive read its supposed to work on all screens, so Im guessing there must be a setting somewhere I havent yet been able to find. I did come across one problem this mrning that bugs me, Im trying to raise my media volume, because TalkBack is jus

How do I adjust a slider control like this up? Blasted things set at 45%, Id like it a touch higher, but none of the tapping or swiping Ive done towards the right seems to raise it.

Re: touch screen phones

So far, the only buttons Ive noticed that arent reading correctly, and this seems like a really huge, stupid problem to me, is the back, home, and recent apps buttons at the bottom. Sometimes I can find the home button just by guessing, but I never seem to find either of the other two. Fortunately Im getting used to the gestures for those three functions pretty quickly. Theres an accept call gesture? I figured there had to be an easier way than trying voice commands or hunting for the button.

Ive tried pressing the very bottom left corner to hopefully activate the back button, but I must not be lined up with it quite right when Ive tried. :$

Re: touch screen phones

Well, so far, I have mixed results and a load of questions. Im at least starting to get the hang of the gestures and things, especially since I almost can never seem to find the back button by touch to explore. Still wish I could feel honest-to-goodness real keys being pressed and hear them click though, but thats what I get for being so old-fashioned. I will say, the custom LG keyboard does leave something to be desired, definitely doesnt act like the default Android keyboard I heard in the various podcasts Id found on Android 4.4, including a couple LG devices, go figure.

I just hope my girlfriends happy, shes the one that suggested I get a blasted cellphone. Shes sighted, so she doesnt necessarily realize how difficult things she does without a second thought can be.

Re: Accessible email client

Thanks, Ill keep that tip in mind. Im actually kinda surprised Im not getting nagged by that active content message you mentioned earlier in the thread. When I tinkered with it a bit a few weeks ago, it was nagging me too, but when I was toying with it this morning, no nags. Not sure how I got so lucky like that.

Re: touch screen phones

Thanks, that actually does help a lot. A friend also directed me to a couple sites that do podcasts specializing in accessible products, and they had a couple podcasts on Android 4.4 with TalkBack for download, which is the version of Android my phone has. A sighted friend will be helping me set it up when it gets here and getting TalkBack running. I also came across Google Now, which should help making placing calls and doing other tasks easier too. Im actually kinda getting excited. As I start to tinker with it more, if I come across anything more specific to ask about, Ill post here.

touch screens

Well, somebody as old fashioned as myself has finally broken down and decided to get a cellphone. Problem is all of my options appear to be Android touch screen devices. Im quite nervous, as Ive never used a touch screen for anything before. Ill have sighted help activating and setting up Google TalkBack, but Im still unsure about the touch screen aspect. Can any of you old hands give me some guidance, tips, etc. that might help make the transition to using touch screen phones easier? Thanks.

Re: Accessible email client

Heres something Ive been sort of working on. Im still using Outlook XP on two of my three machines, but it doesnt work well here on my Windows 7 machine. Ive put ThunderBird on, and so far Im just not impressed, though maybe part of that could be an issue with the Window-Eyes script. But whatever I use, it must be able to import my saved messages from Outlook XP, I just dont have time right now to download client after client and test, tinker, or anything, too many things going on at once thatre just more important.

Re: talking windows pe four 64 bit installation of windows now available.

Ok, I just stumbled across this thread, and Im rather interested in how I use the Elloquence isos. Ive got three versions of Windows that I need to install on various machines, all three of which I have the dvds for, Windows XP Pro 32-bit, Windows 7 Home Premium x64, and Windows 10 Home x64. What exactly do I need to do to get this working with these three os? Thanks.

Thanks! This puts the XP reinstall higher on my todo list, and the other two on my future projects list!

Re: Accessible email client

Yeah, I tried the more recent version of Windows Live Mail, and I couldnt hardly make heads nor tails of it. I really do need to spend more time with Thunderbird, I did a bit of poking around and discovered there were some interface tweaks ASquared recommened for their app to work best with it I wasnt aware of before, so perhaps itll work better later. I agree about the inbox thing though, I always had my Outlook set to drop me straight into the inbox upon startup. Then again, from the way the treeview looks, a separate inbox might be created for each account, making that impractical, and considering, once I actually feel comfortable using Thunderbird, Ill have at least three pop3 accounts delivering mail into this client, perhaps more.
