When my NVDA reads those characters it would for example say "chinese letter chinese letter" or "japanese letter japanese letter japanese letter". Interesting that some people's synthesisers don't read anything at all.

I still feel like post 4 was a bit strongly-worded against something which wasn't clear he didn't want from post 1, but he explains it better in post 4 so obviously it's established now.

I understand our opinions are not going to influence the choice of mods, but since we're having this discussion I agree with post 31. I've got nothing against ironcross, but I do remember several instances where he lost it in a way that a moderator really never should. Plus he can be a bit immature and antagonising at times, which again is fine but not really something that I think a moderator should be (although Liam is also like that sometimes and that didn't disqualify him). From what I remember Munawar has always seemed like a reasonable person, and he definitely has a reputation having been a well-known developer here for a long time.

@Jayde ok that makes sense I guess, but I don't think this is apparent from your first post, at least not to me. What I got is you're not supposed to help someone with their application by for example giving them advice on how to solve your test problem, but not that you're not supposed to post that you think someone who haven't stated that they've applied might make a good mod. This would have been my first instinct to do as well which is why I was surprised when I read post 4.

Re: preparation regarding copyright

Ok it's a bit far back in this discussion now but going back to my original statement and jayde's response:I actually don't know much about liam and what he has developed, but from what he's posted it it doesn't seem like this is an issue from a developer's perspective, but rather a personal moral issue. If I'm wrong please correct me. Also, by that same logic of scaring away developers, couldn't this discussion of cracking down on games with copyrighted sounds also do that? They might just decide that if people seem so strict on this, it might not be worth the hassle to develop an audio game. At the very least it doesn't seem any less likely than them being scared off by the audio described stuff. Also, this thing of us having agreed to the rules and only now complaining isn't true. Most of us have disagreed with that rule from the very beginning because of this possibility, and left it alone after the mods agreed that the things we were concerned about were a bit of a gray area and they essentially conceded to leave it alone.I'm also not convinced that your slippery slope argument that talking about audio described stuff leads to all kinds of other piracy is valid. The things you mentioned are distinct phenomena, and it is very much possible to crack down on some of them while leaving others. And lastly, you keep calling it stealing to bolster your argument, but piracy and stealing are two very different things. Consider this, why is stealing wrong? The way I see it, it deprives someone else of what you have taken. Let's say you steal something from someone who created it, it not only deprives them of the payment they would have gotten for it, but also of the item itself that they put their work into, and consequently they can never get payment for that item. Piracy only possibly deprives that creator of money they could have made for that sale, assuming the pirate would have bought it if they didn't have another option, which isn't always the case. So even though both might be wrong, they really aren't comparable, so please stop calling it stealing, because it really isn't.Actually, with regards to audio described content, where it isn't possible to legally obtain it, obtaining it illegally has no negative impact on anyone what so ever as the fact that there is no legal route to get it means there are no lost sales. I mean we do have a netflix subscription, so they get that money anyway even though a lot of their content is not available in south africa. So what does anyone lose if I get it somewhere for free?

Re: Announcing new additional admin

Actually, what difference does it make to be an admin versus a mod? I know mods can't unrestrict, and in that sense it's good to have jayde as he's more active then the other two, especially arqmeister who rarely if ever unrestricts people. So what damage can he do as an admin that he couldn't already as a mod?As for ironcross and ethen as mods, are you serious? Nothing against either of them, but I wouldn't say they're moderator material. I also wish aprone would come back. In general I think dark was also a good admin, barring one major mistake, and a few other decisions I didn't really agree with. There are a few other people I think could make good mods, like defender (who apparently doesn't want to) and cae_jones (who used to be very active but doesn't seem to be anymore).

Re: preparation regarding copyright

Jayde, can you please explain what exactly it is you think would happen if you left that audio described topic alone? If the site getting a complaint from the company is the issue, then why not take action when that happens? Like so many others have said, it's not likely to happen because it's just audio, so very few people would be interested in it, and companies most likely don't care. But in the unlikely event someone did, they could complain and you could act accordingly, problem solved. What is the worst that could happen if you only acted after a complaint? Also, how exactly would seeing a topic about audio description discourage developers? I see this argument being thrown around to justify a lot of things lately, almost like developers are some kind of hypersensitive creatures that will run away the moment they spot something they might not like. Think about it rationally, this forum has a very strong stance about protecting games, and it's something that virtually everyone agrees with, and several examples in the forum's history can attest to this. So if you were a developer, can you give me an actual reason why a single topic about illegal audio described content would put you off? And do you have any evidence that this either has or would happen? As in heard from any developer that was unhappy, or literally anything concrete?

I also don't understand this. Like others have pointed out, the odds of you guys getting any trouble over a few links to audio described content are very slim if not nonexistant. Even if you do end up getting contacted, you could just remove the links that are a problem then. I really don't see a need to do this preemptively, why try to solve a problem that doesn't exist? It's like taking antibiotics because you heard there might be an infection going around, if there isn't really a need for it you just end up doing more harm than good. If so many other sites with a lot more reason to be targeted are still fine, why would this site be any different? I just really don't get the reasoning here.

Agreed with deleting inactive accounts that have 0 posts. In order to get unrestricted you must have made at least one post in the intro topic, so if an account has 0 posts for 6 months they are probably not going to be used. If banning an account would affect someone who made another account because they forgot a password, then it's maybe not the best option.

Rule 3 in its current form will probably lead to lots of arguments as to what is considered illegal. E.G., some people thinking that the movie vault movies are illegal, and others don't. So maybe just restrict it to audiogame cracks to avoid this, I'm sure that has near universal support as being bad.Apparently unlike many other people I'm fine with rule 8, it makes sense especially the example jayde gave of someone causing trouble everytime their warning expires. And it does have the requirements that several moderators must agree, which should help. I'm less sure about rule 6 though, but I don't feel like arguing about it at the moment, I'll might make a proper post about it later.
