We plan to address these complaints in future titles by increasing the difficulty through additional challenges and ways to fail/lose, and by developing longer games with greater replay value.

Re: Announcing the release of Grail to the Thief

@Foralltoplay, glad you like the voice. Im not really an actor my main training is as a mostly classical tenor (though I also like commic songs and characters), but I do enjoy voice acting, and am willing to try most things. Im obviously English, and can have a stab at accents if needed, generally just let me know what you fancy and Ill have a stab at it.I dont have anymore demos of my speech but Heres a small archive of me singing which includes MAster of the House from Les Miserables, which is sort of a commic character song and rather more spoken than sung so should give you an idea of what Id be like playing a scummy character, though bare in mind these were recorded in a professional studio and not with my Rowland voice recorder. As to Turtlepowers comments on gameplay, while I did get the idea of emulating Cyoa, its a mistake to assume that Cyoa automatically
equals an easy game. Choiceofgames have specialized in producing a scripting language which lets people create very complex choice based text adventures, as well as marketing their own, for an idea of the level of complexity go to the make your own games page and check out something like Zombie exodus, theyre also available on Ios and other platforms as well (I play them on Ios myself). It is true they are text, but I do love the way theyve used a percentile stats system to create difficulty in Cyoa, without recourse to really obscure open door with cat type of puzzles like the ones that occur in usual interactive fiction. I dont agree with Turtlepower about the fighting, unless your specificaly designing an rpg or have some sort of fun mechanic for fighting like the Insult sword fights from Secret of Monkey Island, but it wouldve been nice if your decisions had at least a
little cost to them, sinse the fact that there was no jeopardy or chance to lose really took the tention out of several situations, indeed when I first played I tried to pick logical choices, then when I played a second time I tried to deliberately lose, wandering into Arthurs throne room and demanding the Grail which I fully expected to result in Hank losing his head, while it was humerous he didnt I was in a sense a tad disappointed. Glad to hear the next game will be a little less unloseable.

Re: Announcing the release of Grail to the Thief

I suppose if the game had been more difficult overall, the lack of fighting wouldnt have been a deal breaker. As it is, though, I could have used a little excitement in the form of a nice battle, complete with some of the punch lines that were the games strong point. The other reason I brought up sword fighting in regards to this particular game is because I feel that, in those times, people were always patrolling and guarding their treasures. Maybe thats stereotypical, but it does seem to me that they put up a lot less of a fight than they would have if it had happened in real life.

Re: Announcing the release of Grail to the Thief

Well, I bought this game about a week ago, and, while I like the voice acting, and think that aspect of the game was very well done, the gameplay itself was frustratingly easy. There was no real way to lose, for one thing. I would also think that there would have to be some fighting involved. I mean, the grail was a sacred artifact. King Arthur should have scrutinized Hank much more carefully before allowing him to just grab it. Why werent there any guards around? In the time it took for Teddy to power up the time travel device, Hank should have either had 10 swords stuck in him, or should have been defending himself against such attack.I dont want to say that the game was bad. It wasnt. But I hope that future titles have a greater depth and complexity. If this first game was simply to gauge interest, and maybe future titles will be progressively harder, I can understand that. I just thought, text adventure, this is going to be complex. Also, yes, it did take me about a half an hour to beat it, maybe even less. So a save feature wouldnt really be necessary.

Lol Slj, that is true, maybe we should just not have said anything about this virus and let anyone who tries to get a pirated copy get their just deserts .Actually the fact that there claims to be a cracked key when no key is required is sort of amusing in itself. @Foralltoplay, glad you like the page. I actually am rather sorry we didnt do more to promote the kickstarter campaign on the front of site or add the game earlier, god knows what happened there, but hopefully now there is a db page with links to download the demos, to the youtube trailers and extra info itll help get the word out, personally, I enjoyed what Ive seen of the game thus far, although I didnt like the feeling that there seemed to be no way to lose the game and no choice that ended in disaster, even when i wandered around specifically being a git (not difficult given
Hanks rather amusing attitude to trying to blend in with historical settings). Stil, the acting is extremely good and the interface was both very responsive and extremely easy to get the hang of, Ill be interested to see where Hank Crank winds up next.Btw, if you need a spare voice actor, Id be glad to help and you wouldnt need to pay me either. Hey everyone! I hate to bump an inactive thread, but it has come to our attention that a pirated version of our game is floating around, claiming to contain the full game download + crack key. However, our game does not use copy protection, and the crack key is in fact a virus. Though we do not condone piracy, we realize some people are going to pirate out game and we want to remind you to be careful of what you download and make sure you are running up to date anti-virus software.

Hi!Sounds interesting. Makes me wonder, though, if we could maybe get some specs which would help us decide whether or not to buy. Here are some questions that come to mind:1. Will there be a demo at some point?2. How long does a playthrough take? I know this may be modified by skill but some average would be great.3. Is there any replay value?4. You write that it is implemented via a conversation tree. Does that mean one could brute-force his or her way through, or are there real puzzles that go beyond mechanically trying every option? It is supposed to emulate the feel of oldschool text adventures. Well in those it was possible to get stuck and the experience certainly transcended traversing conversation trees. So Im excited to know how the puzzle part factors in.5. Can progress be saved? Thanks and kind regards,EG

Re: Announcing the release of Grail to the Thief

1. There are Windows, Mac and Linux demos available for download on IndieDB: http://www.indiedb.com/games/grail-to-t … /downloads. Alternatively, you can play the demo through a web browser if you have the Unity Player browser plug-in enabled: http://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/646113.2. On average, a playthrough will take about 45 minutes, though some have completed the game in 30 minutes.3. The game is worth playing through at least 2-3 times because of the branching dialogue. If you only play through once you wont get to hear all the dialogue and you will miss some of the jokes.4. Yes, you can technically brute force your way through the game. The game is inspired by old-school text adventures but plays more like a choose-your-own-adventure book. There are items that you will need to progress in the game - if you dont have these items, your character will have to leave the area and find the item before returning to that area.5. Progress cannot be saved due to limitations with the software used to develop the game, but because of the short length of the game the lack of save feature isnt a huge deal.Let us know if you have any other questions.
