I recommend at least four or five other clans in your tribe so that you don’t have to give them too much stuff when they inevitably fight over what they want, but you can still have enough allies during raids or tribal war. King of dragon pass question and an idea Hey all,I still didn't manage to finish the long game of king of dragon pass, though thinking of getting into six ages for a little cultural difference. Question is: Is it good to have a larger tribe opposed to a smaller one, or should i just band together with the minimal three? I think its three. When i want to get all my neighbours to a tribe moot they have so many demands that i can not meet them all. My last game ended when i angered the stormbull, uroxi are a hardy bunch. They just sacked my clan like... Like a storm.Just as i'm writing this an other question popped in to my mind, do we have somewhere a comprehensive all encomppassing lore stuff for glorantha? The world got me interested. My main question is what the hell happened to Humakt during the age of darkness? I think that's what you call the age when the gods retreat from chaos. You can not awake him during clan creation.And my idea is: I'm planning to do a narrative, book-like lp of kodp just for fun, like the saga just filled in with my own comments, like an orlanthi's diary or something. Would anyone be interested? Sadly my best friends are not really into kodp, one of them says that if she wants to read, she reads a book, and the other is just, well, lazy to play. If you figure out how, I'm probably not the only one who would like to know. I've yet to go to Dwarf Valley, but I did find the Dragonewt Wilds, which are bloody hard to find, let me tell you. I'm trying to explore all the map of king of dragon pass just because why not and anyway it is an achievement, which i love collecting, but i am having a problem. If you're familiar with the map you know what's to the northeast of your tula. Damned trolls! Cragspider always holds my men captive. Is it random or should i just abandon that corner of the map? Getting annoyed by that witch troll woman. As a side note, i weakened them to the point where once they raided me after a summons of evil ritual with 5 normal trolls and nothing else. I'd suspect there was something else going on in that game.It's also not a great idea to antagonize any of the ancient enemies if you can avoid it. The Dragonewts are just easy to upset because they have land nearby you can explore, which is a bad idea most of the time, but especially if you're hostile to them. Re: King of dragon pass question I've not tried keeping thralls, though I remember it's listed as supposedly one of the harder options, along with playing a war clan.with feuds, I've found it's generally better to keep one hated rival whom you can send your warriors to pound on or steel cattle from occasionally, just for the sake of giving your warriors something to do, but otherwise make peace with everybody. I’m not sure keeping thrills lowers your reputation; the one play-through I did where I kept thrills, I freed them after a rebellion almost broke out. As for feuds, having too many of them as your neighbors is a bad idea, since those neighbors are the ones you might want to form a tribe with. The problem is, everytime I try to do anything with the Steam client it just frustrates the hell out of me with it's inconsistent, inaccessible cruddiness, heck, last time I couldn't even log in on the website, let alone run the crappy client.I'll try steam if there is absolutely, completely, and totally no other way of getting a game, but as it is the less I have to use the thing the happier I'll be. Oh and yes I have heard of the mythical chromium powered beta that is supposed to make things so much easier but which is utterly impossible to access without sighted assistance, so no access for me. if it ever actually becomes usable that will be a good thing, but as it is, the less I use this crappy piece of software, much less I am forced to support the gang of money hungry access blind morons who run the thing, the better.Now, ranting about steams stupidity aside, is there any other way or anywhere else I could get the six ages soundttrack?Edit: Okay despite my best efforts I tried to login to the steam website and buy the soundtrack including a password reset. This has buggered steam completely. I guess the reason Sixx Ages is so hard on beginners is that there are fewer resources at the start of the game. In KODP you start with a decently sized herd of cattle most of the time, a reasonable amount of goods and the like. In SIx Ages one has to be a spendthrift and prioritize what needs doing the most for example, while giving gifts to the neightbours is a good idea, increasing food production by building shrines is more important in the early stage--sweet talk the neighbours once your own people have enough to eat. King of dragon pass was awesome but on occasion the layout could become a little bit cumbersome. From a long time player of king of dragon pass, six ages took a bit of time to get used to. It seems to be harder on beginners then it’s predecessor, and there’s a bit of a learning curve involved with this one as well, which personally I feel actually adds to the game. The one thing I have with six ages is that it’s kind of hard to tell when you’re doing things right until something presents itself in the story. I just kept getting trade routes, trying to get richer, performing rituals, and eventually things started to happen. It’s worth the effort if you ask me. Patience is key. I totally agree on the fantastic work Asharp has done, especially because access fixes continued right through the release cycle. KoDP was one of the games that convinced me to get into Ios in 2012, and I never regretted it, six ages I do need to get into properly. In terms of other systems access, the problem as i understand it, is that the pc version of Kodp was released a long while ago in about 2003 or so, this means retro engineering the game to include readable text would be far harder than making an accessible game from scratch. On the plus side, as I understand it, updates on Ios continue and that is true for the next six ages game too, indeed I really ought to take the time to get into six ages myself and finish the game, and maybe play KoDP again, since I certainly haven't seen all the game has to offer and have plenty of acheivements yet to earn.Btw, You probably know already, but the KoDP map is actually quite manageable, look at my guide in the articles room for details. I look back now and realise that they went out of there way to insure that there games could be played by us, with the accessibility of six ages being a testament to this. One of the very few frustrations I had with king of dragon pass was the map. In six ages, this was no more. Not only that, but they put image discriptions in many of the Seens.That, and these games are perhaps the best that I have ever actually played in terms of world Building and story. On another note, how did accessability come about in king of dragon pass? And does it work with screenreaders on the computer like nvda. It's very hard to see this when you're just looking at individual ones with no idea how the visual works. So Cragspider's territory extends into the hex you clicked on, basically, and the reason is that you're not scrolled to a part of the map where you can find other areas. THe only thing I can say is that the map scrolls in all four directions, and if you keep running into them it's likely you aren't moving it. To do so, just put your cursor on a hex and then swipe up or down or left or right with three fingers. THis is definitely one area where Six Ages improves on the experience, and I too wish that they could port the exploration logic back to the first game. I usually just want to discover as much of the map as quickly as possible, but I give prioritgy to tula exploration because that gives you the four tradeable resources. So keep exploring your teritory until you find iron, clay, gems and ivery, that should give your crafters a boost and other clans will want to trade with you so bonus goods in the early game. To quickly reveal much of the map, just set your cross to any unknown hex you find. I've never had issues with running into the trolls multiple times, though I've never seen any scinarios where you could get the trolls to stop being so damned annoying, even if they're not my ancient enemy. Personally though, I often just set the trolls up as hostile from the start, since any other enemy attacks are pretty overpowered (e.G. beast folk invasion, or the flud that destroys about half of all your stuff). LOL) So far, though, my exploration luck isn't the best, mostly because I keep blundering into the troll witch's territory, which seems to be quite large. So, which part of the map should I stay away from? I wish that promising never to go there again would cause that area of the map to be marked in some way that VoiceOver could read. So, has anyone else had this problem? Also, any interesting stories from KODP would make for interesting reading, if anyone wants to share. Remember, the point in Kodp is not to conquer all your enemies (which you can't do anyway), but to live in peace, or at least comparative peace with everyone around you, trolls, elves etc included. You can have a couple of enemies, like your ancestral enemy and maybe a feuding clan or two to pound on occasionally, but its wise to play as fairly as you can with everyone. As to how to specifically avoid bad endings, well usually you don't get one without quite a bit of warning, so when someone turns up telling you slaughter is coming, time to start giving gifts and trying build some bridges before they burn. hth. They just make certain events easier, and allow you to pick options you couldn't otherwise. They appear randomly, so it's worth checking your nobles every few years. Good luck. For more info see the db page or try out the podcast by some idiot called dark .@Nightmare, glad you've not given up on the game. Unfortunately at the moment only the Ios version is accessible. The Pc version was made in about the year 2000 and would need a complete rewrite to be accessible (plus it's years behind the Ios version in terms of content). There is also an android port of the Ios version, though last I heard the accessibility on that was none existant thanks to the scuzzy company who did the port.For exploration see my guide to the map in the articles room which should give you an idea of how to explore. At least a shrine to Venga is almost a necessity if your going to explore and not get slaughtered, though also don' t be afraid to try exploring your tula from time to time since you can find good stuff there.Btw Nightmare, you might consider not bothering with the quote message function when replying. There's nothing wrong with it, but as most people use screen readers, reading through their own message twice can be a little time consuming, this is why the usual practice when addressing one's remarks to another forum user is to just use an at sign and the name as I have done here.I'd recommend myself just using the quick reply box at the bottom of the topic then hitting the submit button. The palacade is particularly good against horse spawn, and a watch tower can let you spot attacks more quickly. diplomatically, the point of the game is actually to get on with the other clans, n ot to beat them into the ground. Usually what I do is try to make peace with as many clans as possible, but leave one feud open with a neighbor to have somebody for my warriors to practice on or for the odd cattle raid. You can also increase your chances of rading successfully by choosing the ice demons as your ancestral enemy and then raiding in winter, though as I said raiding should be done sparingly, especially as there are plenty of other none human enemies out there to trouble you, indeed generally your philosophy should be to make peace as much as possible but be ready for war.Hero quests are the most difficult thing in the game and make getting the ten year ring a problem, for those I'd actually suggest checking the wiki to see which choices are possible. The easiest hero quests imho are making of the storm tribe and ernalda feeds the tribe, actually the one with uralda the cow goddess is imho one of the hardest. You can increase the success of a heroquest by having 7 different gods represented on the ring, and by having a representative of the trickster god, also by performing them in storm season and if necessary, asking other clans to help with magic. I will confess I have been known to cheat a little with hero quests and do a save and restore when going for the ten year ring to let me try again, though mostly this isn't necessary . hope some of this helps. kodp is one of these with sort of a double learning curve. You spend a long while trying to learn to play, and then get discouraged when you find you need to spend even longer learning to play well and succeed, but it is well worth it. Agreed on that King of dragon pass is an exceptional game with extremely good accessibility, though I will warn that if your new to navigating the interface can be rather interesting. You can find out more here on the King of dragon pass database page which also includes a link to a getting started podcast by, well me, which was intended to cover some of the things you need to get used to in Kodp both in terms of gameplay and in terms of the interface. for first time Vo users though, there textual games that are easier to navigate. The choiceofgames and hosted games titles for example, also A dark room it's sequel The ensign, not to mention the similar game nano empire, indeed I'd strongly recommend adr and it's sequel just on rpg grounds. There is also the extremely good time crest as well as several other real time story based games that might be fun to try out, though timecrest is probably the most rpg like.Lastly, There are also the adventure to fate games, which have extremely good vo support, but again navigation can be somewhat interesting, and I'm not sure how vo support is going currently with some of the updates to the interface. I am not sure if the text is on the link to the treasure itself or part of the vo hints that are read as an extra (rather the way that your party's statistics are read). Which screen was this on? The treasures mainly get shown on things like the trading screen or sometimes on the clan info screen. Still it's not a big deal, just try the quest again. @Dan C, I always thought the idea in heroquests was" sticking to the legends, though frequently even then you might have to take an unintended path, and getting lost in the realm of the gods is rather interesting, albeit fairly difficult to come back from if you end up in the wrong place.Btw, if anyone has ever read Shadowplay, the second book in the Shadowmarch quartette by Tad Williams, that actually features a trip to what looks suspiciously like the world of the dead and meeting with that worlds' gods very much resembles the Kodp heroquests. Sometimes it's easy to forget that the legends are simply guidelines, not rules . Don't be afraid to try a different option depending on who you send on the quest, you never know what could happen. For the chaos people, as a hint Orlanthe's brother, the bull god orox really! doesn't like chaos . It's actually something you need to consider, since encounters with chaos people can be very destructive indeed. If your reputation is at %100, king, then you know it's time for a tribe.You will get an encounter which tells you when it's time to make a tribe. Founding a tribe isn't actually a matter of alliances (though those really help), you'll find out when you start the process, be prepared for lots of bargaining . As to heroquests, Making of the storm tribe and ernalda feeds the tribe are the two easiest imho, steer clear of the sundefender quest and the euralda and the cow's quest (the cow goddess's quest is a real pest).One quest you will have to perform to finish the short game is orlanthe and Duroga. You start out with knolidge of this one so no need for extra sacrifices to Orlanthe (that was a mistake I made in one game). Generally the first thing to do in the game is reorganize the ring. it's usually a good idea to try and get ring member for each statistic such as bargaining, combat, custom etc, I tend to think of these ministers . It's also a good idea to have 7 gods represented if you can, but if the choice is having 7 gods or a crappier person who will be expert in some aspect of clan life, I usually go with expertees over religion. Also bare in mind though that there are occasions when either a clan member doesn't know about a specific thing, or will just give a flippent answer (especially if they're a worshipper of the trickster god). While I agree with Zcline that turning back at the sight of misfortune is a bad idea, at the same time th e game can become rather depressing if you have constant disaster and nothing goes right. if your forming a though your probably on the right track, just remember you cant' please everyone, and also remember that you don't necessarily have to go to be of the tribe first time around, especially if you have an inexperienced chief, after all time is generally on your side. Also, if your playing the short game after being king you'll need to complete three heroquests in 10 years which is a difficult task, especially if your chief isn't up to things, so you might want to wait and let your clan expand amd grow a bit, and your ring get some experience first. Re: KODP, aka, King of dragon pass. I've avoided commenting on this until now, but I will just say that restarting if you run into difficult luck like this is not really a great idea. A lot of the fun of the game is figuring out how to survive despite awkward circumstances, and things like chief selection not being ideal definitely happen a lot in the game world.Also, if you've just picked your tribes name, you are not even halfway through the process. It can easily take a year, as it's a massive undertaking.Finally, I will just say that the more clans you have, the harder it is to please everyone. In theory it's possible to get seven or eight in a tribe, but I would imagine it will not last long, as there will be much squabbling and infighting. Tribes are very unusual to the people of the storm, and constant changes expected. I finally completed the storm tribe quest and even picked my tribes name, only it still says I am in a clan not a tribe.also my chief died and to be honest I have not got a good enough replacement, well not one who worships orlanth anyway so I might restart. Questing is not easy, indeed you might want to wait until your ring have some experience and generally higher stats as well as putting points into the quest, also as I said make sure you have both the details and the secrets before attempting a quest, check the lore screen if your unsure. I will say questing is one of the hardest parts in the game, since even if you take all the right steps it can still go wrong as success is based on so many different things. I do remember though my first game I had an awesome guy (who was also my chief), who worshipped humact, tried the humact quest, got lost in the caverns of the dead but made it back, became a worshipper of Orlanth then rose to become king of the hole tribe, got a magic sword artefaand smashed his way through the horse spawn, then died at the age of 79. He rocked! One thing I will say about Kodp is it sort of has a double learning curve. You begin and you go wha! this game is d am complex! then you take in all the info and have a grip in the game, but then you find your not succeeding. It's only after that point when you recognize your mistakes and try again that you can really start to succeed, indeed you might have to abandon your first game or indeed might meet a sticky end, but that's okay, Kodp is one of these games that takes time, practice, preparation and luck. Re: KODP, aka, King of dragon pass. o dear,if the storm tribe quest is 1 of the easy quests I think I am in for a rough ride as I have failed it 3 times.because I am trying to form a tribe does the amount of alliances matter? at the moment I have 3, also my reputation is at 94%.I have to say though, the quests are really confusing and I find it discouraging to attempt it again at the moment..so at this time I am just learning new blessings, building shrines and raiding a lot. o and I have listened to dark's pod cast again in case I have missed information.like I say though, if I eventually can get to grips and understand the questing system I might actually be able to progress in the game. The game will choose generally the quester who has the best chance of success, both relating to their stats and which god they worship, you can choose a different person by selecting them before the quest with the usual choose person dialogue you get similar to performing an expedition, but usually the only time to do that is say when your best quester is a ring member or is off doing something else. Bare in mind that hero quests don't always succeed even when you have done everything right. You can increase your chances by firstly making sure you have all! of the secrets and knolidge of the quest and secondly good preparation. putting points into questing, having a ring representing 7 different gods, having worshippers or asking other clans to help you in the quest, plus there is a treasure that contributes to quest success as well, however all of that doesn't necessarily mean you'll succeed every time, though I will say a little surprised if you failed at making of the storm tribe quest as generally that is an easier quest your more likely to succeed with.
