And my tribute to Sir Terry is now up, you can Read it here Apparently other of the fantasybookreview.co.uk reviewers are writing similar as well, which will be good, so Id recommend people keep a watch on the blog over there if theyre interested in more thought about Sir Terry and his writing.

Re: AT LAST, SIR TERRY, WE MUST WALK TOGETHER

That is true violinist, Ive seen him speak and give interviews about his thoughts on death and assisted suicide on several occasions and I always admired his attitude, his humour and his rather self effacing courage. Its actually odd, I recall seeing an interview he gave in about 2004 or so which listed the 50 top fantasy novels of all time where he struck me as a slightly arrogant man, albeit still incredibly witty, he said for example that Tolkien wrote fantasy for the fifties and it is okay for thirteen year old boys but I write for today The difference between that man and the man I saw several years later quietly discussing his impending death and what was clearly for him worse, the possible loss of his faculties was quite evident. Adversity brings out the best in some and the worst in others, and its pretty obvious where Sir Terry fell on that spectrum.

Re: AT LAST, SIR TERRY, WE MUST WALK TOGETHER

A sequence of tweets from his account written by his daughter Rhianna just after his death started withAT LAST, SIR TERRY, WE MUST WALK TOGETHER.then the second,Terry took Deaths arm and followed him through the doors and on to the black desert under the endless night. The third tweet was a link to an obituary notice, followed by the final tweet of his account, which simply read:The End. He is best known for his Discworld series of about 40 volumes. Pratchetts first novel,The Carpet People, was published in 1971, and since his first Discworld novel, The Colour of Magic, was published in 1983, he wrote two books a year on average. His 2011 Discworld novel Snuff was at the time of its release the third-fastest-selling hardback adult-audience novel since records began in the UK, selling 55,000 copies in the first three days.Pratchet
t, who has sold more than 85 million books worldwide in 37 languages, was the UKs best-selling author of the 1990s.A hallmark of his writing was the use of capitalised dialogue without quotation marks, used to indicate the character of Death communicating telepathically into a characters mind. Other characters or types of characters were given similarly distinctive ways of speaking, such as the auditors of reality never having quotation marks, Ankh-Morporkgrocers never using punctuation correctly, and golems capitalising each word in everything they say.Pratchett also made up a new colour, octarine,a fluorescent greenish-yellow-purple, which is the eighth colour in the Discworld spectrum, the colour of magic.Indeed, the number eight itself is regarded in the Discworld as being a magical number; for example, the eighth son of an eighth son will be a wizard, and his ei
ghth son will be a sourcerer (which is one reason why wizards are not allowed to have children). In the U. S., BookShare: has 117 of his books, some in Spanish.BARD has 50 of his books.Including A Slip of the Keyboardby Terry Pratchett and Neil GaimanA collection of essays and other non fiction from Terry Pratchett, spanning the whole of his writing career from his early years to the present day.

Even though we knew it was coming, I still stopped dead in the midst of my day yesterday when I heard. I remember an interview he gave in 2012 where he talked about his impending death, and I think Ive never heard a more sane or courageous confrontation of mortality than what he said then.

Re: AT LAST, SIR TERRY, WE MUST WALK TOGETHER

Yep Phil, as I thought. Though its absolutely pratchetts thing to go out with the Reaperman. I believe I must have read most of his books sinse for a long time they were the only fantasy I could get hold of, indeed the Rnib have done quite a surprising selection including things like his short collection of thoughts on felines the unadulterated cat.I will confess that my first pratchett book, Pyramids which I read when I was twelve I didnt think much to, sinse while I enjoyed the word play I felt the book didnt really know whether it was trying to be a serious fantasy or not, though in fairness by bad luck Id probably started with the single worst of the Discworld novels. Sorcery, my first introduction to Wizards and the colour octerene improved my over all disposition but I still felt the book was a little off place, however by the time Id read equal rights, Lords and ladies, reaperman and above all Soul mu
sic, not to mention the none discworld book Truckers all of which i read before I was 14 I had very much changed my disposition and got where Pratchett was coming from, indeed I still remember being very destracted when I was 15 and taking my English Gcse (all six hours of it), because I was in the middle of Small Gods, (which I still regard as one of the best of Diskworld). Its actually odd, I never counted myself a serious fan of pratchett or of discworld, despite the fact that Ive read so much of his work, I always said Well theyre fun for what they are but even though this wasnt exactly unexpected, and even though in his final book Raising steam (which also serves almost as a celibration of everything Discworld), Pratchett was clearly not a well man, I find myself quite shocked, indeed its rather odd to think that for all I counted pratchetts writing as fun and not serious fantasy, there wont be
any of the like again in the future. So, a sad thing indeed.Btw, Im now reading Pratchetts gnomes trilogy with the idea of writing reviews for fantasybookreview.co.uk. Ive already done a review for The Carpet People, and there are of course lots of other reviews on site for his discworld and other offerings, but great as the Discworld is I do always feel its good to remember that Pratchett was far from a one trick pony, heck he even wrote two honest to gooness science fiction novels, Strata and ark side of the sun, (Dark Side of the sun is particularly awsome).

Re: AT LAST, SIR TERRY, WE MUST WALK TOGETHER

I will say I find myself quite shocked, Ive been reading pratchett off and on sinse I was twelve, and the books have always been there when I wanted some fun, indeed I did a big discworld reread of my own a couple of years ago, and I was even able to read raising steam when it came out last year, which in a way was a nice celibration of everything discworld sinse it featured return visits from so many characters, even short cammios by people like Rincewind and a mention of the witches of Lankre.Tad Williams or martin? [[wow]], that would be a tragedy indeed especially if Martin hasnt finished game of thrones and Tad Williams doesnt give us the Last King of Osten Ard. I actually think I will try Discworld mud, both because it needs a db entry as I know its got some pretty good vii customizations (I was on the wiki and even saw it has text directions for some of the huge cities), and because it would be a nice way of revisiting lots of plac
es from the Mended drumb to Djellibaby, heck Discworld mud has been going longer than any other mud Ive seen, sinse its nearly 25 years old.

This is terrible first robert jordan and now terry pratchett. Thanks again dark Im very sad but glad to know that this happened.
