Sinse all those numbers and silly punctuation took time up, and while I'm sure your action points or energy or whatever it was is important to know there must be a better way of displaying. Stats and annoying text in combat is one thing you must pay attention. It tells you when to be a wimp and flee out. I mostly focus on last lines, no matter what happen. I just don't like the cooldown since it takes too long sometimes. The crafting is kinda tricky, and the quests are tricky too, since you don't know where or how to start. but you can get use to it when time goes by. I might make a guide though, but now I'm focussing on clok guide and experimenting epitaph new system, which is awesome but adds some more bugs. The game looks awsome, albeit some of the crafting feels rushed after playing clok, however I just can't find a place to setup my empire at all so I've never got started and trudging around until I'm exhausted trying to find somewhere is just plane depressing. Of course I freeely admit I wasn't in the best frame of mind last night and while I didn't start swearing or being bastardy, I did mention the issue a couple of times in hopes someone could point me in a good direction, I also do seriously! think that is a problem with the game and as a new player it rather puts me off. With epitaph combat just seems spammy because firstly the game insists on printing all the numbers and stats, and secondly I believe the punctuation used is slowing down realspeak daniel, particularly when Epitaph seems to have a comparatively fast combat timer as compared to something like Clok. I've never used tr iggers, but in games like Aardwolf I haven't needed them, sinse I just customize the prompt. I could of course bang the speed of voice up but I don't like doing that too much sinsee it gives me a headache and can severely interfere with atmosphere, plus as I said usually I can find a good medium. I really! think Epitaph needs customizable prompts in battle, particularly sinse the game just chucks battles at you right at the start and so I utterly missed the hint message. Btw, this is actually what puts me off muds, sinse I'd much rather be enjoying the atmosphere and thinking tactically like a battle than having to listen to a synth voice going at machine gun speed and type like a demon while only getting the barest idea of what is happening. I start to get the feeling that soul tower is not enough for some reason. People get places near the soul tower, and what about me? I can't do any shit around there because of many things. Re: Trying To Play Epitaph Online Again @mirage, it wasn't actually the background messages that was the issue, I believe you can set those with options mud_output, it was the battles, sinse all those rand numbers and phrases just seemed to be designed to slow realspeak down and take up time while a hole other bunch of text comes in. This seems to be a night for failing with new muds sinse I just had a major failure with empire for exactly the same reason as when I tried previously, namely no bloody land free that wasn't claimed by someone else, even when I went 50 tyles from a tower of souls, players were generally okay though there wasn't a lot they could do other than suggesting I look at the website map which unfortunately was out, then the developer turned up and complained at me for complaining by pm and told me "if you don't want to play the game don't play it" when I sent him a reply that it was the very fact I did! want to play the game and couldn't find a place to start doing so that was getting on my nurves. So it's just not my night. I keep trying to read what's on my screen, and I get a bunch of "background default normal" messages. In other muds, the only thing you have to do to cut all that out is to set color to "off", but it doesn't seem to be that simple in this one. Has anyone had any luck setting an option to cut all those messages out?The only way to get out of that first combat with the zombie is to flee to the north, barricade the door, and escape out the other door. I got to a four way intersection and went in the only direction that didn't have a locked door, where upon I got jumped on by zombies and ended up in an endless combat where I didn't seem to be able to hit anything or disengage, or go anywhere. it also didn't help that combat in epitaph seems the most spammy I've seen in a mud with reeling off all those numbers, meaning that even asking for help on chat or trying to change the syntax was a pest. I even tried just waiting to die, but that didn't happen either, it was like an endless l oop or something. So, stupid game! I'm not even sure if my character survived the tutorial or not. (I picked the name cassy, sinse I thought a real world name would work, but I think she's being eternally zombie fodder).edit 2: okay I created another char and found out what happened, I missed the hint that told me to disengage, however it seems combat in epitaph is super, super spammy with all those random hnumbers and having to read the stat acronyms, and the fact that either their columnization or the punctuation slows down their speech. Definitely need some combat view customization options there, heck having the numbers displayed the the prompt the way every other mud does it might help.Btw, this is one thing I really dislike about muds, I wish they weren't realtime and you didn't need to muck around with super fast screen reader voices or dicker with the output, and I know the hole real time thing is partly the point but at least in muds like Clok it isn't too bad. Re: Trying To Play Epitaph Online Again I was just suggesting the colour fix as a way of getting what words to type for the quests, not regarding the search bug you mentioned sinse as I said clok and materiamagica both have colour alternatives.Perhaps someone ought to also explain to the admins about playing with punctuation off with a screen reader sinse it'd be far easier to here "I am looking for a peanut (sparkle)" than I am looking for a left bracket peanut right bracket" and in a mud where your often having to listen at speed anything of this sort helps. Another idea, and one which might even be better sinse it'd be faster is to use exclamation marks, sinse I'm fairly sure even with punctuation speaking set to off you could tell where they were by your voice emphasis, ie, "I am looking for a packet of Peanuts! that belonged to my Aunt Maggy!" or whatever, that might work. Also, some of the briefed info is gotten by idling a bit and seeing if the mobs say something that is bracketed, such as the word peanut. I'd suggest talking to the admins here, perhaps both about fixing the error and about some alternative to ascii colour like the ones Clok and Materiamagica have, after all such a fix would also bennifit people using clients that do not display coloured text or people with problems distinguishing colours. There's a major scavanging bug going on, and the only two rooms you can still find loot is the kitchen and the bedroom, other than that, I'm sorry to say but no.
