Re: screen reader friendly software for sound settings

If you do Google Search, try writing Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Surround 5.1 Pro. That is the exact model name, I've checked it out again in card's control panel.I'm using NVDA, and Creative Control Panel is preinstalled with drivers and other software that I'm not using. You will find it in a start menu. I've put it on the desktop though, to get to it more quickly. I'm not sure which driver is the latest one, I'm using the one that was updated to support Windows 8, and works fine for me here on Windows 10 64-bit.The only thing that I hate about this driver is that all my sound settings get messed up every time when I update windows to a newer insider build or new major update, but thankfully that is easily fixable by resetting and reconfiguring settings in Creative Control Panel. This card has a large round button at the top that is used for volume control or toggling mute on and off. It's not that large, so it's portable.

Re: screen reader friendly software for sound settings

Thank you for the recomendation. I found the X-fi 5.1 sound card as pro version.  Luckyly it seems to be available as new and it is very cheap with about 40 € here in Germany. Should I be careful with updates to it's software so the accessibility is not crushed or don't the updates break anything? And what is the difference between the main software and the control panel and where I can find the control panel, so I get the accessible experience emidiately? With wich screen reader are You using it and on wich system?

Re: screen reader friendly software for sound settings

According to such experiences, I'm glad that I'm still using good old Creative SB X-FI 5.1 Pro external USB sound card. It's Creative control panel is is at least totally accessible, allowing me to switch effects, reset card settings, and even turn on microphone output which works much better than "Listen to this device" option in Windows record properties because there's no latency at all. I've purchased this card in 2012 for around 100 dollars or 600 croatian kunas over here, and it's durability seams to be nice as it hit the ground accidentaly many times and it's still alive and working well. It's simply awesome, especially can be awesome for gaming because it's a sound card made primarily for gaming purposes. My Logitech G430 Headset, which clames to be for gaming as well, however, doesn't have accessible interface, so I'm using Microsoft drivers with which I don't have full control of headset's features, unfortunately.A friend of mine has recently purchased external sound card as well, I can't remember manufacturer name. It's settings are inaccessible with regular keyboard navigation, and hard to get with object navigation. The only thing that is accessible with the keyboard are page tabs and OK/Cancel buttons, which sucks.

Re: screen reader friendly software for sound settings

Well the realtech controlers I use on the systems just are not accessible and the latest drivers for realtech cards seem to have broken the launcher so it doesn't run so good luck configuring it.THe latest windows drivers without the older realtech ones are not broken but cause sound to come out really horribly. If you are lucky and don't have dts and a few other things, a lot of sound settings could be in your control panel or like with my creative the main software sucks but its control panel is fine.

It could even be a Hardware device if there is something usable for us wich can control Sound Settings and emulate surround Sound and such. Do you know a Hardware device for PC's perhaps? In Terms of Software, I saw razer sorround wich can work with every headphone but I don't know how accessible that is.

Re: screen reader friendly software for sound settings

I tryed it with the OCR, but there was nothing usefull to get out of the software. So if anyone knows programs for sound settings in general, wich aren't bount to a specific headset and wich are screen reader friendly, I would appreciate it. Maybe even an EQ wich can simulate surround sound virtually. It should be an alternative to the windows standard, maybe with more settings as well.

Re: screen reader friendly software for sound settings

I know my G930s have completely inaccessible software. OCR only shows remaining battery time, which is useful, but not to adjust the EQ and stuff of that nature. Having been given a download to some older software for it, which is accessible, it broke the hell out of my profiles, and everything turned to mute the mic. The volume wheel muted the mic, the three G keys muted the mic, and the mute muted the mic, it was odd, also the surround sound quit working as well.

Re: screen reader friendly software for sound settings

I am using mainly JAWS and NVDA. Hmm, haven't thought to try the OCR. That could work. I tryed Jaws Cursor, the object Navigation in NVDA and the arrow keys as well as tab and shift tab to navigate, but the Reader said nothing so as if the Screen would be completely empty. Even the command to read the Screen brought no result. But OCR is something I could try.
