Re: smugglers 5 questions regarding enjoyment and such

@niclas, I forgot about those mini adventures, [[wow]] they're cool, and s5 invasion has all new ones. the relationship of the games is rather more complex, since while s2 was a setup for the secession war that also was the plot for s3, 4, and 5 secession, s5 invasion takes the story forward 100 years to deal with the next war.I have recorded reviews for s3 and s5 Secession, which you can find on the audiogames archive, or in the database. S3 probably did have more sounds, but s5 has cooler music and lots more to do so s5 is my game of choice these days, either Secession or invasion, though I haven't played either for a while now and need to reinstall them. I also wonder about the access fixes in NIels baumer's other games, both their gamebook and their zombie survival game, which I played a beta of in 16 before getting married, and which actually has sapi support. I'm not sure about access in s2, since the images arenot actually conv
entional on screen hotspots or file types, and supernova couldn't get anything out of them, also they change position and state for each shop and cover pretty much sale of anything from upgrades to ship parts. i'll also say that s2 probably has the most inconvenient list of trade prices to look up, since you need to find the various goods on a galactic wide column list of doom, then! go and buy from a particular planet, which didn't especially incline me to try the game, very different from others where you could get the information directly on the nav screen. So I'm quite happy missing out on two for the time being. As to which screen reader to use, I've heard that Jaws is less good with s4-5 the Jaws curser doesn't tabulate the informationas well as some other screen readers and a lot of people usually play with nvda rather than Jaws. With supernova the games work extremely well, I've not tried Nvdayet, though I know lots of pe
ople have been very successful in using Nvda in the games, provided you remember  switch screen review modes with the numbpad.

I tryed it with window eyes and NVDA and both worked quite well for me. I think Jaws should be able to handle it as well but I had got experience with NVDA and jaws.

What's the best set up for playing smugglers? I tried playing them sometime either last year or the year prior, but I never had much luck playing them. Is NVDA better than JAWs?

Re: smugglers 5 questions regarding enjoyment and such

Ah okay, i bought the bundle with all games as well. The cool thing is that you don't miss out anything story wise, since all games stand for theier own and are not connected. But maybe I should try the other ones as well. BTW, i heared your review of smugglers 3 a while ago. I had the feeling that smugglers 3 even had more sound effects than the other ones. Are in Invasion the exploration adventures and mini stories all new or are the same ones from the original smugglers 5 still included? That is a feature wich I like as well and to my knowledge no other title of the series offered this mini adventures. I realy have to play it again since it is a shame that I never got so far into the game that I could access the more complex battles,  I ever had ship to ship combat and never experienced attacking space stations or take over a ship, nor do I had a fleed battle so far. So, it seems that a lot of interesting things await me. Ah, maybe smugglers 2 could be made accessible
for certain screen readers. Wouldn't it be possible to label the images in jaws for example? That could be a way of making it playable still.

Re: smugglers 5 questions regarding enjoyment and such

Well I should say I have played all games of the series accept 2, which is not accessible because buying upgrades and such requires clicking on pictures with no labels (it probably could've been fixed at the time the game was worked on but it's a bit late now). S3 was my first back in 2008, which I had great fun with, though the problem with s3 is that the game gets very long winded if you want to win the war, and combatis quite repetitive especially when you need to keep going to buy more torpedos, though then again things like the gladiator games were cool, and s3 had more ship types than any other version (a shame many of them only were miner changes in design and there were no special abilities). Four changed the playing area a lot and really fixed the access, indeed four was inaccessible first off. The main issue with four was that combat was quite repetitive again, and with fewer ship types that made the game less interesting at higher level. fiv
e was the major change since there combat got updated to use the card symbol system, you had environmental events, and! professions like tradersgot boosts at higher levels. My only issue with five is that some professions have more fleshed out games than others and while you can win the war through trading it's a rather long winded process. then again things like planetary raids are very cool and I love the space station battles. Then there is invasion, which changes things up slightly more, especially with the dlc content. A great series all in all.

Re: smugglers 5 questions regarding enjoyment and such

How do you played all games of the smugglers series? I thought not all games are accessible. Yeah, the DLC packs i bought as well. Hmm, sad, user content would be cool, too. However, even without this, the games have so much content.

Re: smugglers 5 questions regarding enjoyment and such

Sadly no user content yet, though there are the dlc packs for invasion that have some unique stories to them. I've enjoyed all the smugglers series, especially mastering the different professions. I particularly like the combat and the environment variations which you can use to your advantage. S5 invasion particularly can be very tough. Hmmm, I really need to install those again and try them out.
