just tried the link again and it says dropbox 500 error. Something went wrong. Don't worry, your files are still safe and the dropboxers have been notified. I've even tried the link with internet explorer and it says that dropbox no longer works with internet explorer because it's an old browser.

Hello there everyone, karate25 here. I've tried the link to get the star conquest soundpack since I thought I'd give it another try, and I keep getting a dropbox 500 error. Is the link bad? I'm coppying and pasting it directly from the forum page. I could also really use some help with getting it installed. So if anyone uses jaws tandom, I would really appreciate someone's help with the installation. I always did like star conquest over miriani not only because of the space combat being much easier when you got the soundpack installed but also because there were more activities to do and they didn't seem so repeditive. I have honestly only tested this pack with VIPMud 2.0. Unfortunately guys, converting about 400 or so triggers and change into these other clients is a ton of work and a real pain in the rear. I'm sure someone could write a script to make the conversion, but it's far beyond my abilities.

Bump, just in case.More advice... if you want the easy path, join the League. They seem to be staff favorites, speaking bluntly. They have damn near everything, and can do pretty much anything. The AEU is the AEU, and the Fringe is neat... but in combat, they hit really hard but accuracy isn't exactly guaranteed, which I personally would avoid.

found the problem. turns out I was using one of the default sounds in the VIP mud sounds folder, which apparently not everyone has. I'd update the links on the previous page, but my DB is currently giving me issues so here's the quick solution.Go into the combat.set file, opened with notepad if you didn't know, and do a word search for TTA. delete that line, and replace it with this.#Trigger {TTA: * contact: *} {#Sub {%1 (%2)};#play {star conquest\ship\misc\boop2.wav}}Relatedly, pretty excited about the new soundpack. this one definitely does not have original sound design.

Something about a subcommand, I can't remember the exact message. And yeah, I have this option turned on, so I am still okay, but this second really may cost sometimes, hehe.Also, there's another error I've encountered, happens when you first move closer to the target in ground combat.I think I can post those errors if it'll be needed.

Out of the space based moos out there, I do think star conquest is one of the best written, with some of the most interesting activities. The one thing I dislike about the game however is that, the majority of the activities require a group. Lol this makes sense, I'm just not a hugely social person so it's awkward.

What's the error message? Sometimes it can be an easy fix. Alternatively, there is a shortened tracking option if in the game you type options general, and I think it's number 12 or 13? It still is more verbose than is necessary, but the direction is at least the first thing spoken before the ship designation.

I am also working on a pack, though due to a few issues it won't be released yet. it's mostly complete though, with mostly all original sound design and completely rewritten scripts to make it easier for individuals to edit it to their liking.Should be out by some time next month.

hello rashid if you still read this topic, you might want to add one very crucial thing into your pack. When doing space combat and tracking something, the message isn't shortened, it doesn't play a sound. I and most other blind people can't gun like that. That's the reason all the other vip soundpacks floating around shorten the tracking message to just the direction and play the three tracking beeps when things move.

There was three files, two folders )one is named scripts and another is named Star Conquest), the second one contains sounds while the first one contains set files. The third file is the pack's set file. Sorry folks, there was my mistake, I copied everything correctly but when was setting up my character, made a mistake in one of those fields. I hate that they're not labeled. I've fixed it now (thankfully I have an example), and the thing works. The only error I am getting now is related to the room.set file. That one I am not really sure how to fix: I am not familiar with this kind of code. But anyways, thanks to everyone who gave an explanation!

If the devs made it correctly, all you should have to do it paste two folders inside your data dir then create your character with the same name as the pack and it should work.

So, you've unzipped the pack. Copy the folder with all the sounds into your sounds folder. Then there should be another folder just named Star Conquest or something similar. Go into that folder and copy and paste all the folders and files in there to whatever you named your star conquest.set folder to. then, the easiest thing is probably to open the .set file that came with the pack and copy and paste all that into your .set file for SC. that should load all the script files that then play your sounds.Installing packs in vipmud is very doable, but very much a pain. that is one area where I wish there were improvements.

So after trying some combat I got an understanding that I definitely need a soundpack. And I tried to install the one for vip, unfortunately, it didn't work. First it wasn't connecting, and now it gives me an error 12006. I copied the folders, I think, correctly, but perhaps not.  So an instruction would be nice. I think I've got a soundpack from db. @nocternous I know this diverges from the topic in question, and as the mod its your responsibility to filter things like this out, but yes, yes if I am foolish enough to leave my door unlocked you can barge in and steal my stuff. You could even call a group of your neighborhood friends over to trash my place if you felt so inclined. Sure, it sucks for me, but ultimately its my fault for leaving it open. This is basically what David did. But anyway, I shouldn't speak of this any more, because we don't need this to turn into an even more protracted argument than it already is.

I'm not familier with the backstory yet, due to my language barrier I'll have to get through the helpfiles several times, and I'm not really sure it will help me at all. I don't wanna sound as if I were whining, but why don't they offer some help, not every person is able to write well, especially if they're brand new to the game and or if their native language is not english. Although I don't know yet what restrictions besides not being able to be a pilot I may have for not having a profile in. Ok, I think I'm done with whining.   Regarding combat, and the need for a soundpack... Yeah, I've experienced that, although I am still able to control the situation, maybe because there weren't too much ships around.

The soundpack will be needed when you enter real space combat..In sc, space combat is a fast, deadly affair. No screen reader can properly read everything. I mean they can but the combat is too fast for it..As in while you listen to the messages, you can be hit and even destroyed.

So, if English is not your native language?  Assume you're going to have issues.  It's a shame, but there it is, plain and simple, and sad but true.  Those who wonder how you write a concept?  Think about your character, that is, the character you're going to play.  Who is he?  What is he?  Where is he in life and where does he hope to be in future?  What are his goals?  In essence, what you're trying to do is condense the entirety of your profile into one sentence.  If you can do that, you should, in theory, be able to write a profile quite easily.  If you can't, then obviously the profile will be that much harder.

I think I am starting to adapt in the game, and yeah there are a lot of nice and friendly people, both ooc (newbie help) and ic. I'm still good without a soundpack, although the history buffer would be nice cause in game you cannot check the channel history, which is obvious, but sometimes is a bit sad.  I think I can handle that one though. I still am not aware of many things, but I am llooking forward to try it! Regarding points... Mm, don't know, I've got more than 20 already, and I registered my char yesterday. Yes, I love salvaging.  Of corse it may be because of my alliance choice, but anyway.

The reason for having you have 25 industry points before submitting a concept is that they feel you need to get used to the game and understand the world and the theme a bit first. It shouldn't take you too long to get 25 industry if you do the stuff given by the cadet officer and the missions on SVC and such. As for the shopping guide, I hear one is in the works again, but I'm not sure. As for updated soundpacks the one on this topic seems to be pretty good.

OK, so I'll probably regret this, but I created a character. Now you need 25 industry points to even submit a concept, which, like, why, they want to force you to do this thing, they won't even let you do it straight off. No, so apparently the last line in policy 7 says that accessibility triggers are OK, so sounds, etc. Basically as long as its not sending shit to the MOO, letting you pack commands into one alias, etc.

hi, about the soundpack, no they probably wouldn't throw a fit. Just try not to mention it in game too often, give a relyable and central download source where people can get it and where you can link them to if they ask, and you'll be fine. About the shopping, this is the reason why people will help you out if you ask them where you can buy item x or where a certain shop is. There used to be shopping guides for all the alliances, but they got removed because the character who put them together rerolled. And I mean, if you really want to buy something remotely there's always the space shopping network, yes this really is a thing, you'll need a holovid to look at it though.

@31  Damn, that's a bit sad. I am trying this game now without a soundpack, and so far I like it, except the thing about profiles: I'm sure if native speakers profiles get rejected from time to time, what'll be with mine.   Also the thing about not being able to have some kind of a shopping network is quite annoying. Even in the 80's people had a possibility to find where the x item is sold, and here or ask or go explore. But who knows, maybe I got used to those types of games where everything is already on your plate.

Nah, the hosts can be completely bipolar at times. I have played for years, and sometimes they are the friendliest people one could imagine, the next, they are making what seems like very arbitrary decisions with very little reasoning or logic behind it. That's not even getting into the whole conversation about certain people always getting involved in the neat plots, or getting the neat stuff. On top of that, it seems like my philosophy on drawing out plotlines that are dividing the playerbase over months or years is in disagreement with them.The game is extremely well-done, and most days I really enjoy it. There are times though when I wonder why I started playing again for sure.

Now I don't know the situation you were in, but asooming you rerolled, you're supposed to play a different character from the one you previously had, not just reviving the same old thing and giving it a new name or description.

@grryfindore,is there any chance you're misinterpreting the text a bit?  All text, as far as I'm concerned, can sound seriously harsh when coming from a screen reader, which is why I'll always hold that listening to audio and reading braille  are never going to be one and the same.  when you listen to something you are at the mercy of whoever or whatever interprets it.  when you read it, you have the flexibility of assigning whatever interpretation you like to it for the most part, unless the writer makes it very clear that there is to be no mistake in their delivery, and even then, you can dial down the severity of certain things.

omg,I like star conquest, believe me I do, the creatures are nice( the feellos?) everything else is designed such that its easy to emmerce your self in RP or to do activitys and feel like they matter some how.The story or the plotline is well layed out.But yes, the hosts are utter dicks,they dont approve the profiles they have approved before, one even told me we would have approved it if you hadnt told us that we had approved it before, lmao?The players are treeted like shites beneath the shoe of the hosts,and all of this makes the experience less enjoyable than what it could have been. and by the shoe comment what I mean is they are rude to the players, what does it take to be polite anyway?So whilst Star conquest is a game I might be tempted to play now and then,the hosts utter impolite attitude plus no help provided or profiles taken under consideration of a player not having english as their first language is what keeps me away.and this new concept sentence is just... what I said at the beginning Grryf

either it's not as difficult as I've always heard, or they've let themselves go a bit, because I deliberately left in something that could have been seen or interpreted as a grammar error just to find out; it was a trivial thing, mind, so they either overlooked it or simply didn't find it to be an issue at all, which honestly makes me happy.  I can now relax my previous stance on SC and get down to playing the thing and, perhaps helping the rest of hte community.

*bump*Ok, for writiing packs in mush, I don't think that one exists.  To the poster who said that you can't pan sounds, that's not true at all.  I knot that clok pack that Sneaky wrote uses it, as well as the alter aeon one.  As for writing profiles, it's not as hard as you think.  Read the sample profiles that will give you a nice start.  Think of it like this:Where was your character born?  What was his early life like?What does he/she do when they're around others?What are his/her goals?You don't have to be so extremely detailed, but put something in so that you have a baseline to jump off from, and go from there.  I think people put way to much thought into writing these discouraged.  Just take your time with it, and come up with something.  For example, I base mine a lot on my own life.  But maybe you want to be different.  But you can think of it like that if th

Ok I know this is an old topic, but I'm trying to get back into star conquest. I found a copy of the soundpack. It says its a .rar archive so I extract it into programfilesx86 and then when I go into vip mud and try to load the star conquest set it says Error cannot find ground combat set. Also any tips on writing a basic profile would be great, since I had a vary hard time doing one, and I felt like no matter what I wrote it wasn't good enough, but then that could be just me I was becoming vary frustrated at that point.P.s. I'm using windows 8

I install it into c:\program files (86)\vipmud, but when I enter into the game, it doesnt load automatically, and I dont get an error or a warning. When I choose load and execute script then I choose star conquest.set, it doesnt load. My mud name is set to star conquest. Please help me with this problem.
