Hi.I have a comment for Orko and then a comment for Danny.@Orko:I'm both a Jaws user and a NVDA user, simply because I need to. Jaws is good for some tasks, and NVDA is good for other tasks. Getting Jaws to work with audiogames has always been a huge challenge for developers. That's what all the developers are saying. I'm not a developer, so I don't know what the issue is about. But, you have the choice to use both screenreaders, which will make things much more flexible and easier for you. So, saying that games which don't support Jaws aren't accessible is totally wrong. It is you who choose not to install solutions which makes things work. I'm not saying you should switch to NVDA full time. You can just use NVDA for gaming, and Jaws for everything else. I'm gonna throw this out there.it's something I was discusssing with a few people I was on another game with and figured it'd work well here.It's quite a radical change,but hear me outit means that more credits are gonna get spent and it stops players having billions of credits.Currently, you blow up a ship, somebody dies, they have their ships. That's well and good. That being said I'd like to propose a change from a game I played for ages that had a unique system...First off, you can attack ships/players, but here's the catch. Normally, they don't die, they are reduced to 1 heatlth or hull point, that's it. So, I hear you ask, what's the point of combat? Well given you can now bring XP and skill points to the table and get skill points from blowing shit up.it'd be a safer way o experience combat.Now, here's the twist. Repairs for the smaller ships are in, but you hae to pay for th
 em at a station, and once you pay for repairs you lose all your ship upgrades and have to buy them again, so in efffect your smaller fighters get 'reset'For the bigger ships, the cpital class, you have to buy, or mine, components. No more simply hitting repair and it magically gets fixed, no, you have to have the materials, and if you don't have enough, the repairs stop at that point. Gives you a reason to mine roids.Next part of it is faction related:In the other game characters and factions could be destroyed permanently by being at war, leaders could declare war for any reason but in a war all kills were permanent and irreversible, which made it risky and also a big frogging deal to declare war, you had to know how powerful somebody was.  I do think something like this idea would help ease more people into combat by letting  them in gently  without the fear of losing their stuff.Oh and same for healing, they'd have to
  pay sweet, sweet credits for healing too.@Farhad: No rules to combat outside the safe zone, somebody more than likely wrecked my ship and shot up another corvette, I'm not mad, it's a part of the game you can be attacked at any point in time outside the safe zone. and no, runnin to Danny won't help you, he made his point very, very clear on the server once another player started crying about being attacked outside the safe zone. I'll paraphrase:Danny is not goin oto babysit combat or put in restrictions, if youdon't want to get shot stay out of that system or away from that ship or player.

DannyI tried completely removing the DMPA folder that was inside the Program Files directory and recreated it from the zip file into my hard drive's root directory. Unloaded JAWS and started the game. I got the short start up noise, then nothing. When I restarted JAWS, there was a dialog saying that dmpa had stopped responding.Do you create a log file or something that can show where things are going astray?

Danny, I just thought, where is the best place to put the game's folder, I currently have it in my Program Files folder with all the restrictions UAC adds to that folder. I'm also wondering if something could have gotten corrupted in my attempts to run it and if deleting and re extracting the folder from the zip file I downloaded might help.For games conflicting with JAWS' keyboard hooking, putting JAWS into suspend mode has always resolved the problem in the past. Other than freeing memory I don't know what additional benefit you get by having JAWS unload the synthesizer. I know Freedom Scientific uses that suspend mode for Open Book which has it's own copy of the Eloquence synthesizer.So that I know what I'm looking for, can someone describe in brief what should happen during a normal startup?Thanks!

@orco i'll be honest, i'm not a jaws user but i'm not fanaticly devoted to nvda. Jaws has its uses, and I swair plenty of times at nvda, which is my primary screen reader. I'll see about installing the demo of jaws and trying to work with it with the game, in past when I tested it jaws would read, but I had to constantly pass next key through so it could accept input, i've noticed this behayvure springing up on other games as well. Bgt appears to deal with the problem by using the keyhook function I mentioned. I know that the tolk lib itself will only detect sapi if it sees know screen reader loaded, which is why I suggested disabling it, but since you mentioned the game hangs, that might imply something rong with the sapi support in tolk. Either way, i'll have a look with the demo of jaws as soon as possible and get back to you on the ishue.

@vlad25The only response to your remark that I will make is to quote what Joe Steincamp on the Blind Bargains podcast said and that was that making disparaging remarks about other peoples choice for a screen reader doesn't do anybody any good. While it may be your opinion is that JAWS is a piece of crap. Honestly though, does your injecting that opinion into this conversation accomplish anything positive or useful? That being said, perhaps it would be better for all concerned if you kept such disparaging and unhelpful opinions to yourself. I know that I, for one, don't care what you think of my choice for a screen reader. Except for some conflicts with a few games it works well for me, and I'm happy with it.---Well, now it just hangs after the brief intro noise regardless of whether JAWS is loaded or not. I can't even get the thing to exit gracefully, I have to go into the task manager and terminate it.

In your message you suggested exiting my screen reader and in the past that's been a common response to JAWS users by some developers who didn't feel inclined to correct conflicts with JAWS. Most of them used NVDA which didn't have the problem so it wasn't something they were willing to look at. If I wrongfully mixed you in with that group, please accept my apologies.Upuntil I tried your game, other than conflicts or incompatibilities with the operating system the only time I had problems with games were from games written in BGT. Even so I've made it a habit of suspending JAWS when I play any game unless the game requires a screen reader to be accessible.I will try again but this time I'll unload JAWS from memory to see if that helps. If it does I'll do another test with JAWS, suspend mode can be done two ways, the first disables the TTS voice and keyboard hooking while keeping the synthesizer in memory, the seco
 nd also unloads the synthesizer. So if unloading JAWS helps, I'll see if suspend mode with the synthesizer unloaded helps too.I'd prefer not to have to unload my screen reader if it can be helped. I hope you can understand that it is like a sighted person putting on a blindfold, thus my reluctance to unload it.

@post 695 OK, first off, you are not being singled out for using jaws, so you can knock that off right now. Second off. I indicated in my last post that I had not tested with jaws very much, keyword, very much. That indicates I had tested with jaws, but not very much. I am not a full time jaws user, nore do I have a licance, which makes testing with jaws more difficult. Third off, python is different to bgt. What bgt may have python may not. You can not simply go install_keyhook(); in python with out knowing how to do it, as I indicated I do not know how to do it, nore do I know everything. Jaws is not the only screen reader known to have ishues, window eyes was also reported not working. While we're on the subject, a lot of older games required you to turn off your screen reader or at the very least suggested it because it could interfeer with the operation of the game. It is not descriminating or singling out screen reader users, nore is the game only accessible to sirten t
 ypes of screen readers, i've repatedly mentioned that if their isn't a screen reader running the game is designed to default to sapi.

BGT and JAWS have a conflict with keyboard hooking and putting JAWS into suspend mode clears the conflict. So if there's a conflict here with JAWS, it's not the keyboard hook.And just as another developer is asking English players to pay extra for a translation files so they can play his game in English, which I think is unfair to English speakers, I think it's unfair to require JAWS users do more than the users of other screen readers to use a program.Plus you can't really call a program accessible if it's only accessible for certain screen readers.I was, and still am, looking for some game to waste my time with, I had thought that this game might be a good choice, but not if I'm going to be singled out just because I use JAWS.

@post 690 I haven't tested jaws much with the game, putting it into sleep mode simply stops it from reading anything in the game. I have no idea if their is such thing as a keyhook for python that'll let jaws be used in games but won't cause it to interfeer with the games functions. The best suggestion I can tell you for now is turn off jaws before you load the game, that way tolk will initialize sapi. @everyone else, death match mode now puts players at different pitches for easier tracking as suggested by cuddley, also you should now be able to here other players moving about in the death match mode. I've made a few updates to universe mode, an idal timer to kick off players who haven't done anything with in an hour so that we don't get players who arn't actually their on the who list, also you can no longer capture anything in the sol system.

@Danny: This is more a reminder for you since I appear to be good at that one rofl1. HQA is in the build list on planet but needs finishing off, I'm assuming it's next on the list2. For manual pilot I would honestly like a key for launching and a key for laning, K and L perhaps so I can land in manual pilot, it'll bring up a menu for landing sites for landable ships so I don't have to leave manual pilot to land3. Speaking of landing/being landed.a) Could there be a way to possibly transfer between landing sites without having to launch and land again on planets with more than one landing site, sort of an in atmospheric flight to a new sit e and landing there?B) I know I harped on about this yesteray but the sound of the engines winding down sometimes plays at full volume, sometimes it's muffled, and sometimes it just never plays so can that be changed so it always plays for landing regardless of what you're landi

I use JAWS and already thought of that, so I configured JAWS to go into suspend mode when the game runs so it wouldn't interfere with the game. Made no difference.

@post 686 No, death match mode doesn't work that way. When you log onto it, its basicly like rtr, you run around and kill each other.

@post 683 that means the current screen reader you are using is unable to be used or is unsupported, disabling it before you start the game will enable sapi support. That high pitched ping noise is the sound of moving in the menus.

This game isn't working. I get the intro music and sounds, then instead of a menu, I get nothing. When I press the arrow keys I get a short high pitched ping, and that's it. I hit Alt+F4 to exit, then Windows pops up a message that says dmpa has stopped working, so I choose to close the program.

Greetings all. Sorry I acksadently killed the universe server while in the middle of testing death match mode. Anyways, its back up, and for those who are intrested, their is a death match mode server up at ip 45.56.74.115 port 1240. Its very simple, but you can reload your weapons and shoot other players, reloading is acomplished same way it was on the universe server. Enjoy.

They'll show up as objects on the map on the viewer you can walk towards. Pressing e will move you to that building's first area so you can start exploring.

love this game. don't have time to play it as much as i'd like to. I would like to see more industrias activities though, such as asteroid mining/hauling, salvaging, ans something slightly more oritinal, probe reclaming. basicly, the idea behind probe reclaiming is i asume that humanity is still sending probes into space, to find new systems and things of that nature. so, after a certain amount of time, the probes will run out of charge. kind of simple, go out ot a probe, collect the data from it, then bring the probe back for money.

Greetings all. This update is being released sooner than I anticipated, oeing to the fact I changed up the map loading code from pickle to yaml and thus rendered logins useless with the old version. This update fixes a number of bugs, including. You should no longer get an error when completing a fusion jump. Fixt the bug that would generate a massive error when picking up the battery, surprised that was only reported last version and not a few versions before where the bug existed. I made some patches to my playing sound code, thus you should no longer have the game crashing out on you when someone is for instance firing a gun. At this time I have the death match server up, but oeing to the map changes I mentioned earlyer it needs a new map before I give you all the connection info. @7ro Oh, my bad. I don't check my private messages very offten, i'll get to it as soon as i'm done with this post. @everyone else, factions are now implemented. You can form them and disband them, currently i'm working on the ability to claim the uncharted starsystems for your faction. You will need to be in a faction to participate in the process of claiming your own systems and bringing ships or any other class of space object under your control. In addition, /help and /skillpoints are now implemented. Their is also a /stuck command in case you get stuck outside of the map. Coming up now is the previously mentioned ability to claim and capture systems, and after that, its... buildings. Which can be very easily done.

Once you hit the beacons, the jump nds. What is so hard to learn about that, you just center the sound. It's the exact same as the old salvage minigame.2. Fake? I guess in that case Danny is fake too, and just about every other player who has more than one character. I guess Cudddley is fake, Jake's fake, I'm fake and oh what do you know, Praj is fake too, and..oh, by the way, yeah, every player is fake.3. No, the drive does not need to be changed, you simply need to keep practicing with it and learn and get good at using it. It is insanely simple to pick up, I remmeber you having issues with the manual piloting but you got the hang of that fairly quickly.

Greetings. It would appear that the lag has gone away after I disabled the asteroid loop responsible for destroying asteroids once they had 0 contents. Thus, asteroids will now stay if you have 0 contents on them. Ships are a bit slower now since I was doing more tinkering with them, but i'll be restoring them back as soon as possible. In the meantime, any more lag problems let me know. @farhad, because these for 1, fusion range differs on different classes of ship, and for 2, galactic coordinates are not the same thing as your ships actual in system coordinates. You can not jump from 0 0 0 to 100 100 100 and remain in sol.

@slj You can here other players moving around you, I had it implemented 2 days ago and the same with viewing them on the viewer. @crashmaster This is a request that has been made already, and the answer for fighters getting autopilot is still no. @everyone else, i've fixt the bug that would cause you to see other people's custom ships when selling your own, designing too. I've also fixt up a few more bugs with areas and ships, which means that areas will no longer, however rair at times it would happen, be shifted to someone elses ship, requiring me to run my fix areas procedure. I had the issue when I tried to get the battery in the offline and got that there was an error though the battery did get picked up.This was in last update, another issue I had was when I tried ordering a fighter, the fighter spam on top of the shipyard.I was able after a while to sell it and rebuy it but then the ship dialog kept popping up till I closed the game and restarted, the fighter spam properly though in another location.The reacter in the fighter is just to noisy.I'd imagine that noise to be an outside thing when in flight not inside the fighter itself.Also even though some ships have manual pilot and thats fine for say moving about if you need to, I'd like autopilot so you could get from one place to another,.But maybe I havn't mastered manual pilot yet.

I would love to see full multiplayer features such as the following:You can hear where a player is walking, you can hear a player interact with something, choosing something from the inventory and almost everything other players are doing. I think this is very important when doing teamwork on ships. It would be great if you could do voicechat directly in the game. I have two ideas for that:1. Hold down a key and speak which plays from the players persition like in Survive the wild.2. make a communication system where people could choose a channel, or maybe even cooler, a system for each ship, so people who are on t

This would especially be handy when players are on multiple decks on the same ship.If full multiplayer integration  like this would be added in the future, it would be much easier to help newbies as well. I'm not comparing DeathMatch to other games, but I have realized how awesome and how big a difference it makes, for example in Survive the wild. You know exactly what an other player is doing if you know the sounds, and you are able to help in a much better way.I don't remember if you already can do this, but it is important to be able to track a player, or at leased see where the player exactly is.I have no idea on how difficult it would be to make all this, but I hope this will be considered in the future.

@kyle12 I do know of a bug that'll freeze the game when calling the playsound function that plays dynamic sounds and is used in stuff like when you pick up the battery, but haven't been able to find a fix for it because of no error. @kingzombie Your not the first to report it, tamecki also reported a bug like that. I think I might have a fix for it. @everyone else, i've fixt the major server lag when you'd target someone. Go crazy with combat. In addition, i've added a new change. If you target an object and it is something, like for instance, a fighter and it has an engine sound instead of engine systems, you'll here that engine sound, as well as it rising and falling in pitch as your target maneuvers. ok, this game would be awesome if this turning system wasn't so retarded and when you use auto pilote you can hear your engines. i say, scrap this retarded system and make mouse turning instead, it fits much better to a game like this

Hi guys, since the old domain I was using for map downloads apparently changed ips, i've released the update a little sooner than I would have liked, so you won't have access to the newer first portion of the story, only the stuff you previously had access too in offline. However it does contain a few new things, such as the ability to adjust room and environmental sounds volume in the options menu as requested, and a few bug fixes and changes to the manual piloting. Greetings all. I've got an early prototype of ship upgrades implemented. Their's one thing that needs to be worked out, but this upgrade system will let you select from the systems on the ship that you want to upgrade, and it'll also allow you to enter how much you want them upgraded by, so you don't need to press enter about 1000 times to get things upgraded. Note that you will be charged 1000 credits per 1 unit of which ever system you decide to upgrade.

Greetings all! Have you ever had difficulty targetting and maneuvering at the same time... all because you had to soly rely on coordinates? No more. For both the new gunning minny game, and the manual pilotting minny game, if you press t and target an object, a sound will now play notifying you of that targets position. For the new cruiser coming out, the rail gun is now operational. It packs quite a punch, but its range is still extremely limited. It also uses ammunition that you can very quickly run through, but each round does 200 damage, upgradable to 300 once I finish the upgrade system, the range is 10 being upgradable to 20. Enjoy.
