hi there, my amp has only RCA inputs. will there be an audible difference if I use a XLR to RCA cable instead of the normal RCA ouput ot the transporter? if yes and people out there have tried it. what kind of XLR to RCA cable will I need? read some stuff regarding floating pin #3 and so...? what input sensitivity would my amp need at last to prevent it from damage (heard XLR has more output voltage than RCA)? if the above questions are dumb, please excuse ;) -- truckfighters | Transporter | REDGUM RGASil OCC Silver Interconnects | REDGUM RGi120ENR AMP | REDGUM LS Cable | BW Nautilus 802 D | Live musicians at the end of my room! truckfighters's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=7852 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=37321 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/audiophiles

Re: [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] This Is An Improvement
People, I'm sorry in advance, but it doesn't make any sense. There cannot be HUGE difference between two good digital sources (if one has very high jitter it doesn't deserve to be called good). SB is a good one. The mentioned transport that reportedly sounds better - who knows, but I opt to assume it's good either. There can be slight, very slight difference, but if you experience something severe one of your components simply flawed, or at least doesn't work as advertised. -- 325xi simaudio nova cdp simaudio moon i-5 revel performa m20 on skylan stands via acoustic zen matrix reference ii and acoustic zen satori sb3 audioengine 5 325xi's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=5661 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=37251 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/audiophiles

Maybe because Mr. Lavry wants his product that way or for Pro use only just like Balanced Audio Technology (BAT)of Vic Kochenko. I would tend to think it is because Mr Lavry wants it that way. Or because he agrees that balanced is better for his intended customers. I am amazed that so many audiophile products still use RCA connectors. They are cheap, and understood, but they sure leave a lot to be desired. Everything in my recording studio is balanced. I ran my SB to Benchmark to my amp using balanced, and my Transporter is connected to my amp using balanced. A proper balanced pre-amp or amp will cost a little more than one using unbalanced, RCA jacks. Could add a tube to the circuit, etc. But audiophile gear is typically not price sensitive to $10 in parts, or $100 in retail pricing. -- Pat http://www.pfarrell.com/music/slimserver/slimsoftware.html ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/audiophiles

Re: [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] Transporter: the better output? RCA to RCA / XLR to RCA ? Difference?
The Transporters internal circuitry combines the two phases of the balanced XLR output in order to create the unbalanced RCA output. It doesn't use the cheap and easy solution of only using one of the two phases like some equipment. As a result, I'd stay with the unbalanced RCA's in your case. And no, it's not a dumb question, it's a perfectly reasonable thing to ask! Re: [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] Know anything about the Micromega Duo.pro2 ?
I haven't heard the specific unit in question, but the Micromega gear did get some very positive reviews, so it would be worth a close listen! The only thing I would watch out for is that some of their gear used touch membrane switches to control the functions. Re: [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] Seperate iTunes Library
You can create a second iTunes library without problem! On a Macintosh (and I guess it's quite the same on a PC), just press and hold the alt key during the lauching of iTunes : the software will then ask you if you want to use your current library (mp3 one in your case), create a new one, or choose between severals (not your case at this moment). So, you just have to ask for a new iTunes library, to call it loseless library for example, and to convert all the CDs you want, on your internal or external hard disk, it doesn't matter. Of course, if you want to reaccess to your previous mp3 music, just relaunch iTunes pressing the alt key and so on... -- Gilor Gilor's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=12390 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=37232 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/audiophiles

325xi wrote: There cannot be HUGE difference between two good digital sources... Actually you highlight one of my pet peeves about modern audiophilia - the ever present hyperbole. It is really annoying to hear people incessantly talk about massive differences between things like cables, even to the point of calling certain things unlistenable. Now I'm hardly in the camp that claims there are no differences between electronics and other audio equipment. I think the analog outputs of my SB3 sound pretty dang good for a $300 device. But I was willing to spend the extra cash to run mine through an external Lavry DA-10 DAC. The differences are certainly present but hardly huge - a bit smoother, a little more depth and extension. Some might prefer another DAC, some might not be able to justify the cost and some might not even notice. But there is nothing about this or any similar scenario that could justify the over-the-top verbiage that some seem prone to. However, something tells me that my wish for some verbal moderation in this area is probably going to yield about the same results as expecting world peace tomorrow. -- mlsstl mlsstl's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=9598 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=37251 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/audiophiles
