Re: [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] Stabilizing the SB3
lets assume you didn't like the direction the thread was going from your replies. I used the simple expedient of clamping the sb3 by its rear foot to a vibration sink made from a sheet of 18mm mdf 6mm rubber sheet and a 6mm granite placemat with felt feet. Yes it makes the unit sound better by a small but obvious ammount more a question of resolution than out right more bass or treble. As to why this should work my guess is that its stopping vibration getting in rather than getting rid of vibs produced by the sb3. I expect that the unit was not correctly calibrated [though it had been dealer installed]. I've used the deq ...just feed it via the digital input and do the correction by hand rather than letting the units limited brain do it. you can get some extremely good results from it ...in fact you can get anything near for even double the cost. It does reduce the gain, but even when I compensate that in the analog domain (at the preamp stage) the overall result is not as good (even without applying any room correction or EQ) compared to a straigth WAV streaming. Yes, I have used the passive out for quite some time. Just a second order filter after the AKM dac's. I have also new clock and new PSU for the dac's. These tweak's makes the behringer a very nice unit. Next up is to replace the sample rate converter (CS8420) with a better one. The 8420 gets the hikkup now and then, and passes on a distorted signal. Sounds like putting a blanket over the speakers :) http://www.dcx2496.fr/en/news_en.php I bet you can do the passive out in the transporter. But what comes after the transporter? Re: [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] Transporter vs. Denon's new WiFi line
You are comparing a music streamer (Transporter) that has minimial receiver-like functions with an AV receiver (Denon) that happens to have some minimal music-streamer-like functions. It's not a meaningful either/or comparison. I would suggest getting the right receiver for your needs, ignoring any network streaming functions they might have, because, not to put too fine a point on it, they all rather suck at it. By the same token, if you need the functions of a true surround AV receiver, you can discount Transporter's ability to function as a multi-input DAC, because it's really not meant to be a receiver for your DVD player, satellite, etc. Transporter's inputs are intended for using it as a high-end DAC in a 2-channel system. Long story short: get the right receiver and then, if cost constrained, go ahead and downgrade Transporter to an SB3 if you want. But you will be very sad if you go to only having the Denon's built-in streaming. PS: as a receiver I think the Denon's specs look quite good, and in fact I would have gone with one in my own system except that my cabinets were too shallow. -- seanadams seanadams's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=3 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=40078 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/audiophiles
