Part of the problem is that we get used to a non-flat response, and flat then seems a little lifeless. Personally I adjust for a flat response down to ~18Hz (bottom end of my sub) and then add a little EQ to give a gentle lift of ~2dB at 10kHz for a bit of air... Re: [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] I would like some HDMI info
The TV handshakes with the HTR. The HTR sends out a handshake request to the TV, and the TV responds. If the device cannot receive the protocol it is being asked to receive it basically says so back to the device trying to send the protocol. Your TV cannot receive DD so it tells the HTR not to send it. Simples :) Chris :) -- Stratmangler There is no element of personal attack in my response. Re: [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] I would like some HDMI info
yes but the edid handshake is usually buggy :-/ Apearently pski's TV can not tell the htr that i don't speak dolby or the htr does not care. also a display device such as a TV or projector is suposed to send info abouts it prefered resolution and avaible resolutions options back to the source this is not always working either, but that is moot nowadays when ecerything supports every possible res. Mnyb;633589 Wrote: This is correct a good example is My own Meridian speakers they use the quite mundane classic seas 6,5 pp drivers for bass and midrange, this driver sounds good ,I had it before in for example a pair smaller Thiel speakers I owned in the 90's 1,2 ? or what was it, but it is not super expensive (I also had that driver in a pair of Opus3 speakers). But implementation is miles apart, The Meridian speakers uses 2 of them in 2,5 way active digital crossover design and is also digitally crossed over to my subwofer at 50Hz . My old Thiels was a passive first order filter bass reflex design, this really put high demands on the drivers. same driver is probably a an oversimplification as these can be ordered in different configurations if you are a speaker manufacturer you may want a slightly different fs or some TS parameter different than the off the shelf unit etc. (that is the interesting thing with auditechnology drivers as they offer these flexunits so that even diy people can have a customized application specific drivers) Having an OEM specific driver is simply a matter of volume. I can design a transducer from scratch to any design specification that someone would want (allowable by the physics) and the cost of a typical 6.5 midwoofer is in the $15 range (qty 1000). The high-end loudspeaker market is all about small volume though and most don't have the in-house engineering to design a transducer. These are the thoughts of What Hi-Fi (I know you can't take what they say as read!) They are relatively unfussy about positioning, sounding weightiest close to a rear wall. But we're happy to trade some of that substance for the improved stereo imaging and cleaner midrange gained by moving them 20cm or so into the room. -- tank121 tank121's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=17169 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=85319 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/audiophiles

I have just checked this and I am able to play both 24/192 and 24/176 but the files are transcoded to 96 and 88 respectively. The latter are the frequencies shown as input by my Tact Audio TCS3. When I click on the particular track for info it seems that the 192 track is being converted to FLAC but at a much lower bit rate, about 786 which is what I would get with 16/44 files. Well if you're committed to the speakers without having heard them in your own home, at least wait till the room's furnished and play around with them before you commit to stands or even more wall mounts. Try the different listening positions you have speculated here about. Get some cheap height adjustable stands. Take care not to damage the speakers - they may sound dreadful and you may wish to sell them. This is going to be my plan of action 1) Speaker cable is here - Chord rumour 2 x 4 metre runs (might be able to sell some depending on placement.) 2) Order speakers tomorrow 3) See if anyone on here can lend me some stands who lives locally (but will need a particular type to accommodate the menuets. 4) Order the thick carpet and thick underlay. 5) Decorator is in 1 week today. 6) AV stand will be delivered http://www.gecko-furniture.co.uk/ProductRanges/Sapphire/sapphire.html 7) Get thick lined curtains fitted. 8) Install kit 9) Test with stands and the table. (sitting at far end of room) 10) Play around with stands 11) Get two volunteers to hold speakers at level of the brackets (5ft) 12) Decide !
