[SlimDevices: Audiophiles] Firmware 83?

The change log suggests that there is Firmware 83 avaialble for the

I've used SBS 7.5 and 7.5 embedded but I don't get prompted to update
my Transporter firmware. When I force a firmware update it's still
returns Firmware 80 in the info. What am I missing?

Re: [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] Antipodal filtering

2010-01-06 Thread MadScientist

I've had the capacity to upsample via my Meridian G68 processor for many
years and quite frankly I can't hear any improvement. My limited
exposure to apodising algorithms suggest that there may be something to
gain. I had hoped that Meridian would have made their famous filters
avaailable for my G68 but that seems to be taking forever. Apodising
via SG may be just as good an option for a long term listening test.

To avoid having to tinker with SG every 5 min and annoy other familily
users, SC modifications should only apply apodising to the 24/96 players
(Transporter in may case) and preferably to 16/44 files. I would be
extremely gratful for suggestions (or the code) from the programmers out
there as to how best to implement this? Pretty please.

This sounds like the the problem I had with my Transporter. Although I

case of back for an exchange which eventually happened.

I wouldn't place too much store in any online hearing test. Their
validity is depenedent upon the equipment you are using to reproduce the
various frequencies. If you do use your main system be careful not to
crank up the volume in order to hear the higher frequecies as it's very
easy to fry your tweaters.

Re: [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] Transporter woes

well. The analogue output into my headphone amp is the biggest

I take that back! My retailer (Ripcaster.co.uk) were a major part of
the problem. After I reported the fault with my unit, they insisted
that they had no more Transporters in stock and the fastest route would
be a swap via Logitech European Customer services. When this was
clearly was not going to be a speedy option, I asked Ripcaster to take
responsibility and send me a replacement unit when new stock arrived.
They agreed and asked me to hang to the defective unit so they could do
a swap in one delivery.

At least a week went by – nothing. I phoned Ripcaster and was informed
they were still awaiting stock.Their web site showed ‘in stock’ and
I began to suspect I was being stonewalled. The following day, I
emailed a sales enquiry under a different name. I got a rapid reply
‘Yes, we have black Transporters in stock’.A few minutes later I
phoned Ripcaster and asked if they were able to sort my problem.
‘Sorry, no Transporters in stock yet – we’re chasing the distributer and
will let you know’. I immediately cancelled my order and asked them to
collect the defective unit which they agreed to do.About 30 min
later I got an email : ‘The new stock we’ve been waiting for is arriving
shortly and we can now do the exchange’.

Draw you owns conclusions from that! What a way to treat a customer
who has spent £1000 on a product.

In their favour, I will say that Ripcaster, when forced into a course
of action, act very efficiently. However, I’m singularly unimpressed
with their after sales service.

[SlimDevices: Audiophiles] Transporter woes

2009-05-07 Thread MadScientist

After taking delivery of a faulty Transporter (badly distorted analog
output), I’m finding trying to get a replacement a highly frustrating
experience.

The retailer from whom I bought the unit, having no more stock
themselves, decided that the fastest route would be to organise a
straight swap via the Logitech European customer services.
Unfortunately wrong! After several days I was contacted by Logitech
with the following request. I was to send them proof of purchase in the
form of the original receipt (copies or pdfs unacceptable). I was then
to organise collection and shipping of the unit from the UK to
Switzerland (which they would pay for). The unit would then be tested
and at their discretion they would either repair or replace it. By
their own admission this process was going to take at least 2-3 weeks.

Sorry, but I’m not prepared to jump through these hoops and I want a
new unit. The retailer (who are doing their best and with whom I have
no complaints) are now trying to get hold of another Transporter in
order to organise a simultaneous collection/delivery. However, since
the distribution of Transporters to the UK can best be described as
eccentric (considered choice of words here), I feel that nothing is
going to happen quickly.

I hope my experience isn't typical.

Wow! What a difference! After a whole day rearranging furniture, I have
now achieved something I never thought possible. The sound is sublime,
detailed, powerful, full of life, capturing all the nuances of the
original performance. Some tracks, recorded well (the Stones track,
Love in Vain from Let it Bleed is a good example), are just
unbelieveable - I can (I know this sounds dead corny, but its true)
close my eyes and Mick, Keith and the boys, still in their 20s, are
playing there just for me! I have never heard anything like this - even
from a system costing over £300,000 I once sat and listened to that had
so many tubes in the multiple amps that the owner listened to it in his
vest in a vain attempt to keep cool.

So, you have to re-arrange the furniture for the Transporter to sound
better than the SB3!

Sorry, but this sounds like a load of audiophile b*ks to me!
