Re: [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] Improve my sound
what ronnie says...:D except while google is your friend, remember she is watching you :p I have two systems with a touch as the player. The first is a touch coax into an oppo BDP-105D Blu-ray/media processor with balanced analog to an outlaw amp. The 105 has a wonderful digital/analog section. I have a second system at a cabin that might be more relevant to your question. Initially a touch analog rca into an arcam a65 amp. I recently added a Schitt bifrost DAC (about $500USD) between the two, and the sound improvement is night and day (even to these aging ears). I still have the touch analog to one input, and the DAC to another input, so I can A/B to demonstrate the difference to myself, for a smile when one is needed. Two other things to remember/consider: 1) The music you play. Poorly recorded muddy sounding song is still going to sound crappy. I have a high res copy of Derek and the Dominos "Layla" and while the music is one of my fav's, the sound is...meh.. 2) Speakers - IMO the biggest improvement you can make. Especially when you consider most have unique sound color/flavor to them, so find the ones that match what you appeals to you. Example, I was looking for a cheap upgrade of an old pair of klipsch KG1.5's (early 90's vintage, maybe $300 a pair) for my second system. I bought a pair of ELACS, they sounded great. Then A/B'ed them with the klipsch. I returned the ELAC's. Maybe the ELACs were more accurate, but to me they were more "dead". YMMV. Re: [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] BlueSound or Innuos better than a Touch?

If so, I was just saying where money is better spent (IMO). I think the previous comments made a good case for disregarding what any "upgrade" in the streamer source would provide. I was agreeing, but might not have made that clear, sorry. Re: [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] BlueSound or Innuos better than a Touch?
I'm a on a budget audiophile with aging ears, but I have always believed in putting your money in what you hear (speakers, headphones), and anything else that creates the analog signal (turntable, DAC), and allot of the rest comes down to supporting those components (enough power), and minimizing what is added (noise, distortion, color, etc) My main system is a touch into an oppo BDP105D (nice DA section, a $600 upgrade over the 103), I also have a second system with a touch into a Schitt Bifrost D/A (about $600 USD). I have done an A/B of both systems with the DAC's vs touch doing the DAC, and in my aging ears, the difference is significant. The Oppo and Schitt comparison - I couldn't tell. So, I am +1 on the DAC, or those speakers you have been admiring :) Jim Redrum's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=33806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=113335 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/audiophiles
Re: [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] Khadas Tone Board vs Schiit Modi 3 for Transporter

I have a totally unscientific, only semi related observation. I have had a schitt bifrost for about 5 years, that I am running a touch through on my second system. I also am over 60 so my ears aren't what they once were. The A/B difference between the bifrost and the touch dac was significant, very significant. I love it. I also have an Oppo BDP-105D which is a sort of pre/pro, which has an excellent DAC. The 105 was about a $600 upgrade over the 103, mostly due to the dac and balanced analog output. I was thinking of moving the bifrost to my main system, so I A/B'ed the oppo and the bifrost side by side, real time. I really don't think I heard a difference (my older ears). I came to the conclusion I was hearing similar $500 worth of DAC. I think that schiit products are excellent, but have not heard the modi 3. I also no nothing about the transporter, as I have not owned one. So, some random thoughts that might help? Jim Redrum's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=33806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=112817 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/audiophiles
