[SlimDevices: Audiophiles] Re: How do I stop my Transporter from trying to connect to Slimserver when PC is off?

When the 'Waking up Slimserver ' sign is displayed, press the left

connect to Squeeze network, just connect and Sign Off, the whole unit
 will then be turned off.

That's the only solution I have come up with so far.

Previously my SB3 would make a few attempts to connect to Slimserver
and then give up and show a blank screen, but the Transporter doesn't
and just keeps on trying to connect often days after it was last on!

I hardly ever listen to Squeezenetwork and that is a long winded way of
resolving this problem.

Does anybody else have any ideas??

[SlimDevices: Audiophiles] How do I stop my Transporter from trying to connect to Slimserver when PC is off?

2006-12-04 Thread Warren

Title says it all really

My SB3 does not do this but whenever my PC off my Transporter (from
standby) keeps showing an error message unable to connect to
Slimserver every few minutes and it is annoying because it sits below
our TV!

I have looked for a setting within Slimserver and player settings to
change the TP's behaviour when the PC is off but can't find anything.

Hopefully there is something I can do to change this behaviour and any
advice/pointers would be very much appreciated..

2006-12-04 Thread Warren

Tried that!

It's already in standby and when I power down my PC the error messages
start to appear and pressing the power button has no effect.

The only way I can stop this from happening is to log on to
squeezenetwork before powering down my PC and then the Transporter
remains in standby until I hit the power button again.

Paul from Progressive announced on this forum that he was taking all UK
pre-orders and I therefore placed my order with him.

Therefore this forum is the precise place to vent one's frustration at
the lack of support and news especially as they are proud to
represent Slim in the UK !

I would definatley have ordered directly from SD had I realised the
delay would be so long and these posts should help anybody else in the
UK decide where to place their order.

Another week passes with still no sign of my Transporter or an
anticipated delivery date

It's now 12 weeks since I placed my pre-order - has anybody in the UK
received a Transporter ordered via the UK distributor or a reseller?

I ordered my Transporter from Progressive because they were offering a
free Squeezebox with pre-orders although I have noticed that some of
the UK resellers have not mirrored this offer.

I placed my order on 2nd August

Often the best way is to see how many turn up on ebay. I looked for a

The fact that not many people are selling them is a good indicator.
We'll see if any Transporters turn up!

With the 30-day Satisfaction Guarantee I don't think we'll be seeing
any on Ebay for some time!

I ordered mine from Progressive in the UK after reading this thread:

Must admit had I known that I would have had to wait 3 or 4 weeks until
direct orders were fulfilled then I would have ordered from
SD

Well the person I spoke to at Progressive stated that they had not
received any Transporters yet.

It would therefore appear that SD are shipping those orders placed
direct ahead of those via overseas distributors, which is frustrating
because if I had of placed my order with SD direct my Transporter would
have been delivered by now.

Does anyone know when the first shipments of Transporters are due to hit

I placed my pre-order with Progressive back in July and am 13th on list
- would be good to have an estimated date

Thanks for making such a meaningful contribution to the thread and
responding to my first post!

I carried out blind listening of both and must admit I was amazed at
how much better my old CD player was, (comparing CD to FLAC) but having
read back through the posts on this site I see that the sound of a SB3
is comparable to a budget CD player so it's no surprise really.

I guess it explains why so many squeezebox owners have modified their
units and have seen dramatic improvements in sound quality, hence the
introduction of the Transporter.

However I suspect benh's SB3 could well sound better than the Arcam 10
because the function of the DAVE module was to provide surround sound.

[SlimDevices: Audiophiles] Re: SB3 DAC vs Arcam Alpha 10 DAC

2006-09-14 Thread Warren

I have a similar set up to you Arcam Alpha 10 integrated amp plus Arcam
P25 power amp which are bi-amped and drive Monitor Audio Studio 20se
speakers.

I do not have the DAVE module fitted but I guess you must do if the amp
comtains a dac. I am not sure which dac the DAVE module had, but when
comparing my SB3 with my 8 years old Arcam Alpha 9 CD player (dcs ring
dac) there really is no contest and the elderly CD player is
significantly superior!

The plan is to relegate the SB3 to the kitchen and I've placed a
pre-order for a Transporter - hope it lives up to the hype!
