RE: [AZORES-Genealogy] Rhode Isalnd records online

2011-01-12 Thread Steven McNamara
I am trying to find a marriage from 1920-1925. Joseph S. Viera and Mary
Angel Rebello from New Bedford. I couldn't find any record of them getting
married in New Bedford or at the State vital records in Boston. I assume
they may have gotten married in a different state. Maybe Rhode Island since
it is so close. I noticed the marriage records only go up to 1915. Does
anyone know how I could check for the 1920's? (His parents lived in
Brooklyn, New York. So they may have gone there? I just don't know)

Thanks,

Steven

I take my husband along, who loves to read books, and he sits and
guards my computer and other stuff...plus we have a great vacation
together. We are Catholic but he read the whole Book of Mormon, given
to him by some wonderful visiting students while we were there for 4
days the last time and found it most interesting.

Emails: No listing for the Gmail one. Both Comcast.net (no email/vacation
mode) AND the Yahoo.com (digest mode) emails are on the list.

Dick Eastman addresses the fact that the lock needs to be on a brace or it
can be slipped off.

[AZORES-Genealogy] "The Voyage to Brazil" by Anthony Barcellos.

2011-01-12 Thread Katharine
Dear fellow Azorean descendants,

I wanted to share a short-story by a virtual amigo of Azorean-
Californian descent, Tony Barcellos, re an ancestor of his emigrating
(by boat) to Brazil in the mid-19th century, that was just posted
today on the Azores' Comunidades blog. It's an excerpt from a novel
that is currently under consideration for publication; I hope you
enjoy it as much as I did. I also hope some of you will consider
writing up some of your own family stories for possible submission to
the Azores Comunidades blog, or other outlets.

"Dear Dairy [sic] - The Voyage to Brazil" (1/2) -- Anthony Barcellos

&
(2/2)

Some of you may especially enjoy reading of the main character's
resourcefulness and mechanical skills in repairing the ship's
workings. I also wonder how similar the author's description is to my
own great-grandfather's experiences during his seafaring years in the
mid-1800s, and our family's crossing the Atlantic from Flores to the
US in the 1870s.

Happy reading! Katharine.

Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Laptop Security at the Library - Dick Eastman article

2011-01-12 Thread Kathy Cardoza
Just to chime in with my two cents worth here ..

Sometimes I tend to think that everyone in a genealogy library is like me
.. honest, focused on their own work, and wouldn't take anything from
another person if it fell in their lap. BUT, that is not the case. There have
been instances at the FHL in Salt Lake City and certainly at other libraries,
where individuals and/or groups of thieves have come into the library with the
express purpose of stealing unattended laptops, purses, digital cameras, etc.
They look just like us so that they blend in. They don't have beady, little
piggy eyes, vampire fangs, wear "wife beater" shirts, or whatever your image of
a thief is. If you leave your equipment laying around, someone like that very
well may grab it and pack it out as their own.

My personal solution is to wear a little vest that holds my money, ID, etc. as
well as my phone and digital camera. Fanny packs work well, too. My laptop is
secured via a security cable and lock.

Just don't take for granted that that sweet looking little old lady sitting
next to you is not a thief. Be safe or be sorry.

[AZORES-Genealogy] Poss. email addy problem

2011-01-12 Thread Sandy
Cheri, I deleted my google email (gmail.com) account a long time ago because I
never used it. Can you change the email address to plumsweet...@comcast.net or
Yahoo.Com?  I can't seem to add another email address at the place that is
supposed to allow it.
I wanted to make a comment about the laptop lock for public places. It looks
like unless there's a brace welded to the leg at the top of the table leg, all
a thief would have to do is close the laptop & slide the cable down the table
leg & go. I take my laptop & purse with me to the bathroom or a book shelf.
It's a shame it's impossible to trust everyone any longer. My disabilities keep
me home now but I still keep an eye on my laptop. So small & easy to slip away
with a friend of a friend visiting, etc. Sigh, like I said it's a sad
commentary on society that we can't trust everyone any longer. Take care.
Thanks, Sandy  PS let me know if I need to re-do my gmail acct. or get a new
one in order to post on this google group. When I tried to make an additional
email address I got a msg. that said the plumsweet...@gmail.com was already
established. I didn't have to sign in either so I know it should be active.
