Hi Richard, Thank you very much for your help. Is it to much to ask you for his family? I have a Bernardo Pacheco married to a relative of mine and other bernardo Pacheco people from Ribeirinha. There are two named PRIMO PACHECO BERNARDO. The one you state and another one with the same very name, born in 29.OCT.1854 in Ribeirinha, he married to Maria da Trindade Furtado… It is not very unlikely they belong to the same family… I would appreciate any help Eliseu De: azores@googlegroups.com [mailto:azores@googlegroups.com] Em nome de Richard Francis Pimentel Enviada: domingo, 6 de Março de 2011 02:43 Para: azores@googlegroups.com Assunto: RE: [AZORES-Genealogy] Bernardo Pacheco RIBEIRINHA, S. Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Vol III, The descendants of Wlllem Vander Haaeghen aka Guilherme da Silveira
Hi Nancy, I also descend from them on my paternal/maternal side. Have not read the book but the record does not make mention of execution. It reads: Year 1669 On Jan 21 of 1669, died Luzia de Sousa who had been (literally translated) the wife of Pedro da Sylveira Borges. Received the sacrament of penitence, communion and last rights. Is buried in this matrix church in the ? in front of the pulpit nave. Did not make a will. Did not leave perpetuals for after her death. RE: [AZORES-Genealogy] Vol III, The descendants of Wlllem Vander Haaeghen aka Guilherme da Silveira
Thank you both for your insight. It did seem odd that she would have been executed.however, not impossible. I'm glad to know it was just a mistake and since she received the sacraments she was right with her soul...I doubt condemned people were given the last ritesor were they? I remember noting when I read David Gitlitz book, Religion of the Crypto-Jews, that there was a woman from Lages, Pico who was killed by the Inquisition after having been denounced by her son. I don't remember the year without looking it up but that's the reason I thought perhaps Luiza had met such a fate! This document fleshed Guilherme and Margarida out a bit for me..I had recently read a book about the making of textiles in the 13th century and although fiction it had a great deal of historical insights. Guilherme was very involved with this before leaving for the Azores and this book also states that he was a good man. I like that.
