Greetings Group,

I'm curious if anyone else has been reading this book. Like many of us I
descend from Guilherme and Margarida through 3 of his children due to cousin
marriages so I like to read whatever I can find about the family. This has
information that was new to me and while I do see some definite problems
with some dates that absolutely can't be right my reason for writing now has
to do with an odd wording on page 64. Up until this entry the deaths are
stated deceased but then for D. Luzia de Sousa born around 1619 and
executed on 1-31-1669. I found it odd that of all the previous entries
this was the first with that wording. I went to her obit on the CCA site
...it's legible however, my Portuguese isn't good enough for nuance or any
interpretation other than what I clearly understand. Was she executed or is
this just an anomaly in his writing? CCASao Jorge...Topo obits 1633,
page .042 left side.

Thanks for any insight,

Hi Richard,

Thank you very much for your help. Is it to much to ask you for his family?
I have a Bernardo Pacheco married to a relative of mine and other bernardo
Pacheco people from Ribeirinha. There are two named PRIMO PACHECO BERNARDO.
The one you state and another one with the same very name, born in
29.OCT.1854 in Ribeirinha, he married to Maria da Trindade Furtado…

It is not very unlikely they belong to the same family…

I would appreciate any help

I have a copy of both records if you need them.

As far as I can tell they are not related

Hi Nancy,

I also descend from them on my paternal/maternal side. Have not read the
book but the record does not make mention of execution.

It reads: Year 1669
On Jan 21 of 1669, died Luzia de Sousa who had been (literally translated)
the wife of Pedro da Sylveira Borges. Received the sacrament of penitence,
communion and last rights. Is buried in this matrix church in the ? in
front of the pulpit nave. Did not make a will. Did not leave perpetuals
for after her death.

 Dear Kathy,

I don't know if this will help but I translated the file with Google

 Hope that helps.

I have uploaded Vol III of the history of Flemish people in the Azores by
André Claeys onto the Azores GenWeb site. This book details the descendants
of Wlllem Vander Haaeghen aka Guilherme da Silveira. It can be found here:
 http://homepage.mac.com/kmacardoza/Genealogy/Flemish_history.html

If you are interested in these descendants, this could be a valuable
resource for you! As with the other books Mr. Claeys has shared, this is
entirely written in the Dutch language. But, if you are interested, it can
be translated and even searched for names you are interested in.

The document itself seems to indicate this to be a typo; reason being that

2011-03-06 Thread nancy jean baptiste

Thank you both for your insight. It did seem odd that she would have been
executed.however, not impossible. I'm glad to know it was just a mistake
and since she received the sacraments she was right with her soul...I doubt
condemned people were given the last ritesor were they? I remember noting
when I read David Gitlitz book, Religion of the Crypto-Jews, that there was a
woman from Lages, Pico who was killed by the Inquisition after having been
denounced by her son. I don't remember the year without looking it up but
that's the reason I thought perhaps Luiza had met such a fate!

This document fleshed Guilherme and Margarida out a bit for me..I had
recently read a book about the making of textiles in the 13th century and
although fiction it had a great deal of historical insights. Guilherme was very
involved with this before leaving for the Azores and this book also states that
he was a good man. I like that.

Thanks again,
Nancy

Thanks Rick. I have looked for the parents marriage 3 times. I even went
way back, more than I should from the first child being born. I will go back
over the sibling's baptismal records see if there is something about
them coming from somewhere else. Thank you for your help. I wish I could read
speak the language. It sure would make things easier. I can read dates
a few words. Thank heavens for dictionaries people like you willing to
help. Take care.

You have done a good job in reading the document. I cannot see any
indication that his parents are from another parish, in fact the document says
natives and residing in the parish. You may just want to look for some
siblings to make sure they agree with this document.
Sometimes you are so intent in looking for a document you overlook what
you are looking for. I would also go back and look some more for the marriage
of the parents. I went back to a roll of film 5 times because I was not
comfortable with the marriage I found and then I found the right one which
was exactly in the year I thought it would be. A name was hyphenated which
made it look like another name.

I am trying to find the marriage record or baptismal records for the
parents of Manoel Silveira Goulart. I have attached his baptismal
record,(Manoel's)from Castelo Branco, Faial. I have looked at the films that
should have
the parents marriage baptisms but I am not finding them. I was wondering
if they were born in a different parish or even a different island. I am
not good with translating but can usually figure out of the parents or
grandparents were from a different parish. I was wondering if someone on the
list could help me.

From the baptismal record for Manoel I have that he was baptized on 13
June 1874, Santa Catharina parish in Castelo Branco. He was born on the 9th
of June.

His parents were Jose Silveira Goulart Maria Clementina.

His grandparents were Joaquim Jose Goulart Maria Luiza, Jose Pereira
Pinheiro Maria Clementina.

His Godparents were Manoel Jose Machado his wife Maria Gloria ( a
paternal Aunt).

If anyone could help me with this I would really appreciate it. This is
for a friend of mine.

Thanks,

Sherry

The Uminho site still hasn't added those records.Does anyone know

Thank you,
