HI, My family are also from Sao Miguel, Ribeira Grande area. I can't find any information on them so far, except they left in 1895 from Ponta Delgada, on the SS Braunfels Jacintho Rapozo, and Maria Augusta with one daughter Mary. RE: [AZORES-Genealogy] The Trip they took
Bob, I grew up in Merced, CA and my great grandparents immigrated from the Azores. I was fortunate to have known them and they lived into my high school years. Francisco Jorge arrived in Boston, MA and traveled by train to Merced, CA in the late 1800's. Leopoldina Freitas arrived through NYC (Ellis Island) twenty years later as Francisco sent for her. He traveled with her and a traveling companion by train from NYC to Merced, CA. Merced has railroad passenger service through the Santa Fe Railroad. The route stops in Bakersfield to the south and does not continue to Los Angeles. The route does continue north to Martinez, CA and connects with railroads that went through major midwest cities (Chicago) and eventually to the East. Click on Ponta Delgada on the next screen Click on 1894-1896 to see that book. Start wading through it, looking for your family. If you find it and need help, copy the URL and post it to the list. [AZORES-Genealogy] Re: Muniz brothers from Sao Roque,Mi ? Azores.
Hi Maria, I cant thankyou enough for your reply. Its so great to finaly find some details of the arrival of Portuguse people to Australia. Francisco J Muniz was a store keeper and miner at Smythesdale and i do know of members of the Muniz family buried at Creswick. I do know that Francisco had shares in a gold mine. I do know that Manuel Carreiro Muniz died in Creswick in 1882, his wife was Louisa Sims. In April there is a gathering of Pioneer family desendants at Smythesdale Botanical Gardens, it is to celebrate 150 years since families arrived and settled into the area. I hope to meet up with people that may be related. I do know that there is a living Muiz in the area who is a member of the historical society that will be there on the day. I would like to contact you by email to compare notes. Thankyou so much, Best Wishes Chris On Mar 24, 7:35 am, Maria Lima maria.lima...@gmail.com wrote: Chris: My husband also had two brothers that were on the Water Lily in 1853 from Azores to Australia.
