Let's try this email again. Came back saying it couldn't go thru...

Hello Mike and Adair,

Mike, Adair and I are on each other's tree hoping to one day find a =20
connection. She and I actually met on Facebook and I recommended she =20
connect with the google group and here we are. I came across her =20
Great-Grandfather (Henry Borba) I hope I have his name correct Adair. =20
Anyhow, no connection as of yet.

Fonte Bastardo is on the island of Terceira so we're at least close =20
but I'm not sure of any connection.

I see Louis Borba in your tree born in Willows, CA. My other =20
Portuguese line (Bettencourt) owned a dairy in Willows in the late =20
1920's or 30's.

Are you located in California yourself? If so, Northern or Southern?

PS: Are you on Facebook too?

Hi Eliseu,
Though my family is predominently from the southern part of S. Miguel,
I also have several links to Ribeira Grande and Nordeste. One of these
is a person named Jacinto Pacheco de Barbosa who married a woman named
Angelica Rosa do Espirito Santo Tavares on 19-Aug-1799 (NS da Graca-
Porto Formoso). Jacinto is descended from the very prominent "Barbosa
da Silva" family - specifically, Tome Barbosa da Silva. (Source:
R.Rodrigues - Genealogias das ilhas de S. Miguel e Santa Maria). If
you have access to the referenced publication, Jacinto is listed in
Vol. 1, Pg 296. If you need more info let me know.

You are correct, Francisco Espinosa e Betencourt is listed as the son
of Francisco Pires Machado and his wife Dona Joana in this record.
Just as a point of order, however, the name "Pires" on this record is
spelled with an "s" at the end.

The text is dubious: Francisco is surely son of Francisco, but it's not clear
if Joana was only his father's wife or his mother. And I have doubts if the
surname was Espinoza or Espinola. Looks like Espinoza, but Espindola
Bettencourt is a common combination.
