Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Terceira marriage records... how to find?
A recommendation; Joao just finished obtaining records for me as well. The first steps in breaking through my current brick wall. He found exactly what I requested and was extremely quick getting my records. I thought it would be slower, like those of us in Oklahoma. I got a packet today, but have yet to open my mail. ( Not home long enough. My son also wrote from boot camp. It's a great day for mail.) I tried for months to do it myself and got very lost, who went where with what name. I highly recommend Joao Ventura. Robin Lebo On Jun 4, 2012, at 22:24, Steve Wright cswrigh...@gmail.com wrote: I totally agree with Celeste. He has found lots for us. [AZORES-Genealogy] how to verify
On the Neps website I think I've found a good possibility, my great grandfathers name was Joseph Pine who you've helped me with before and we have always believed he was from Cedros we believe his last name was Pinheiro and from his marriage cert to my great grandmother his parents names are listed as Joseph(no last name) and Louise silveira. from my, grandma I know Joseph Pine had a sister named francis. So on Neps I found a listing for a Jose Pinheiro with his parents listed as Jose Da Rosa Pinheiro and Luisa Emilia Da Silveira. they had a son Jose born 1893 and a daughter named Francisca B in 1897. But my problem is I have very little to compare this to to verify these names, can you give me some suggestions on how and where to look? [AZORES-Genealogy] Ancestry's family finder type DNA test
I was solicited by ancestry.com for a free DNA test that may be similar to the FTDNA family finder. They had to send me a new kit because of inconclusive results. Those results are just in. No surprise really--61% Scandinavian (I assume that's my Scotish and Irish), 32% Southern European (my Portuguese) and 7% uncertain. The matches that it proposes seem mostly on the Scandinavian side. Has anyone else on this list tested there? I don't suppose there is any way to link with the Azores DNA project (where my GEDCOM is listed). I tested originally with FTDNA but did not get info on the current Family Finder sale. I did this one because it was FREE of course. Not sure if I should also do the FTDNA test. Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Ancestry's family finder type DNA test
Hi Mary, We have a couple of expressions. You get what you pay for. And You can't get something for nothing. Was this the DNA test that Ancestry was giving out for free last November? And they started to get the results in April? You're not getting any results on Ancestry because there are like 3 Portuguese people there. There's over 300 on Family Tree DNA. 92 of them have done Family Finder. So you can attempt to match only 3 people on Ancestry or the 90 of us on Family Tree DNA (FTDNA). Inconclusive results. Interesting. I don't know who Ancestry has over there, but I know who Family Tree DNA has on their advisory board. Drs. Michael Hammer, Bruce Walsh, Doron Behar, Thomas Krahn, and more. You can read a little blurb on them here: http://goo.gl/mtycZ These men teach and are doing research in genetics. They are up on the latest and conform to the current standards. Family Tree DNA was the first DNA testing company devoted exclusive to genealogists. They still are. They don't have a publishing branch or an image scanning branch or other ventures that would make them spread thin. They are exclusively DNA. That is their sole focus. Because they were the first, they are also the largest. If you are trying to find cousins and make connections, you need to go with a large database. Size matters in this case. If it's in your budget, I'd do the Family Finder with Family Tree DNA. This current sale of $179 is as low as I've seen it go. You'll get results over there and lots of matches as well. I still have coupons too. Just email me directly at gfscherim at gmail.com and I'll send you over a coupon.
