[AZORES-Genealogy] Re: Resendes/Rezendes in Nordeste, Sao Miguel

2012-10-12 Thread EResendes
I have an extensive Family Tree from Faial da Terra on the
Rezendes/Resendes. If you find a link to that family there let me know and
I can see if I have any matches with info.

Hello all and Deb. Unfortunately I do not have any more information on
these people. It was something I extracted at the time when I was helping
someone. But if you have any further requests, please post them. I may have
some from periods further back in time. Nordestinho, Achada, Achadinha,
Faial da Terra, Agua Retorta, and Povoacao, are the places where you will
find an abundance of people named Resendes. Interestingly, despite the many
interrelations with people named Resendes, the name is not as common in
Nordeste until the late 1800's or so. There is one well known (Pimentel)
Resendes family in Nordeste and they are well-to-do. But this is way back
 in the 1600's.

Manuel married Mary/Mae Azevedo in 1919 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in

Manuel died July 5, 1965 in San Leandro, CA.

He was the son of Joseph (Jose?) Last name? and Luduvina (sp?) Rosa de

I have Joao Pacheco married to Rosa de Jesus Sept 26-1878 in Nordeste,
Sao Jorge. Also Jose Pacheco de Resendes married to Ludovina Rosa de
Jesus Aug 28, 1879. Not the same I realize, but just in case someone
made an error you can check on these.

Hi Mary,

I, too, am related to Miguel Pereira de Lemos and Barbara Maria (my 6G
grandparents).

I am related through their daughter Izabel Joaquina de Lemos (b. 1773), who
married Silvestre Machado Teixeira.

I don't have any information on the births, marriage or deaths of Miguel
Sr. and Barbara Maria. I also don't have any information on their parents.
Do you have any of this info?

If so, I would appreciate any information that you could provide.

Thanks!

It is not a burial. It is a marriage.
On the 25 of May 1689 married Gaspar de Braga son of Francisco Raposo and
Isabel Nunes with Maria? Pereira daughter of Francisco Vaz Viegas? and of Maria

[AZORES-Genealogy] Re: PEREIRA FROM SAO JORGE

2012-10-12 Thread Diane
Hi

This is all very exciting. I too have Pereira family from Sao Jorge
-Urzelina. My GGrandfather was Joaquim Machado Pereira (b 1850) - I have a
great photo of him as a youngish man. His father was Christiano Machado
Pereira (born in Rosais 1826 - died Urzelina 1881). Christiano's wives were
two sisters from Urzelina - Vitorina Rosa and Perpetua Rosa. Their mother
was Vitorina de Jesus and her husband from Urzelina: Manuel de Sousa
Machado. Christiano's parents were Felix Jose da Silveira and Maria
Joaquina de Jesus from Rosais. Two or three previous generations were from
Rosais.

I also note that that my 5x GGrandfather's name appears to be Matheus
Pereira de Almeida and he came from Rosais and was married in 1777.

In regard to the change of name mentioned by Ginger, name changes are
sometimes dramatic. Joaquim Machado Pereira changed his name to Anthony
Mitchell when he came to Australia in 1870. We only ever found his original
name because his step-mother had written him letters in 1881 (or had them
written) from Urzelina and I still have them. On his marriage certificate
in 1884 (Sydney) he names his parents as Christian Mitchell and Victoria
Rosa - so at least they were on the right track. Just goes to show how
tricky this business of genealogy can be. The Azorean branch of my family
tree is known as the Mitchells by all the cousins etc...

Does anybody have any of these folk on their tree?

Diane

Thanks for that Hermano. It is a great help. As those paticular records

Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Passports from Sao Jorge

2012-10-12 Thread Diane
Hi Cheri

Thank you for all that information. I have read how the American whaling
industry gave young Azorean men the opportunity of joining a boat and
leaving the islands, thus avoiding mandatory military service at that time.
(circa 1870). As I cannot find any record of his arrival in Australia I
think he was not official.
Is it possible therefore that he would not appear on any ship's list for
leaving or arriving? I will keep looking at those links you sent.

Another clue (maybe) is that he wore a gold earring (I have a photo of him
and this is true) and my family said that this meant that he was working as
a sailor and had gone around the Cape. Do you know anything about that?
