[AZORES-Genealogy] Re: marraige records

2012-10-24 Thread Kirsgen
HI...The new google groups throw me off a little, as I have been bad
about checking in this year. For the person(s) with a Moniz/Lindinha
connection though, just wanted to say that I have a similar name grouping.
My Lucinda Augusta Moniz was b. 1851 in Sao Miguel, spent some years in HI
and d. in Santa Clara Co., CA in 1918. Her father, per family as well as
her dc was Mr. Lindinha. There is a fellow on Ancestry, an Allen Rapoza
with Moniz Lindinha line too. I am told that Lindinha is an unusual name,
so I wanted to mention this here, in this thread.

[AZORES-Genealogy] Re: Minta surname from Flores Island - derivation?

2012-10-24 Thread Steve
On paper I'm reviewing all the implications of changing Minta to Pimentel
Ramos on top of the intermarriages. It seems like a Portuguese Peyton Place
in 3D. I'm understanding more fully the family stories of relatives living
near and with each other.

As Katharine says, fascinating. And slow going for the beginner.

Eric, thanks for the Rose Jacinta Minta obituary, which I missed (forgot to
try Minto spelling). Yes, I do have husband Joseph and Rose Minta in my
tree (with photo), but the obit filled out Rose's family.

The passenger and whaling ships are a real find, thanks Richard and Eric.
On Ancestry.com hadn't showed up in the comprehensive searches (or results
are buried), but produce good results in specific database searches.

Cheri,

Here are the DNA kits that I own. They are from DNA LifePrint. They
are endorsed by John Walsh from the show America's Most Wanted. As for the
age, they are about 10 years old still in their original boxes. One box has
been opened but the swab is still factory sealed, as is the vile tube with

Hi Paul G,

It's kinda like having a generic gasket for your car which you take into
the dealership. The dealership will want to use their own gasket, even
though yours might work.

One of us admins will announce on the list when FTDNA starts their Holiday
Sale. Usually it's in December through Dec. 31st. Once in a while they
start it a little early in November.

[AZORES-Genealogy] Second marriage records

2012-10-24 Thread Diane

Good morning/evening

I think that the second marriage record of my 5xGGrandfather Mathias
Pereira de Almeida does not contain the names of his parents - only the
bride's. I can see the word viuvo for widower but not his parents.Would
this be common if the person has been previously married? Also, her
mother's first name is indistinct something de Sao Joao?

It also seems that a lot of women must have died quite early in the
marriages as several of my male ancestors now have rapid second marriages.
Would that be due maybe to death in childbirth in those days???

Looks like the mice have been at this book, I looked up the next few pages
and the dates seem to be Sept 1777.

would be grateful for some clarification if possible.

Yes if 2nd marriage they won't list his parents, sometimes they will list the
name of his first wife (Most of the time) and sometimes they will only say he
was a widower. You will have to find first marriage to see who his parents are.

There is not an inherent PDF limitation on size. I've gone over 2,000 pages
