[AZORES-Genealogy] Re: Cemetery on death record listed - but cemetery says not buried there
Isabella, there may be another reason you have difficulty finding the burial site of an ancestor at a cemetery in the Azores. I've been told (whether true or not) that the burial sites are recycled after 7 years, upon which the bones of the original individual are gathered up and placed in an ossuary (stone container). The next question is Where are all the ossuaries stored? I know that there are some folks from the Azores in this group. If a few of them would like to clarify the factual circumstances of this policy, I'm sure that the rest of us would greatly appreciate their input. -- For options, such as changing to List, Digest, Abridged, or No Mail (vacation) mode, log into your Google account and visit this group at http://groups.google.com/group/Azores. [AZORES-Genealogy] Backing up data works
I have been having problems with my laptop the last couple of weeks. It was acting slow and giving me problems navigating in programs. Friday morning when I sat down with my large coffee and turned it on I could not open my programs. I ran virus checks and still nothing. I took it to Best Buy and the Geek squad checked it out and told me that the hard drive was going and I had a corrupted operating system . I considered getting it repaired for $250+ and decided to get a new one. I was not happy because I really did not want to go to Windows 8 and just the work in setting up a new computer is a pain. Most of Friday I spent shopping and got a nice Lenovo laptop So at 7:00 pm last night I plugged in in and started to figure things out my first priority was to get my data from my back up loaded. I have been using a daily backup on an external hard drive and successfully loaded my files especially my genealogy files that I have invested countless days creating. Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Backing up data works
Rick, HP just had a sale last week on their Windows 7 computers - I don't now if it is still going on in case anyone else is interested. They must have some understanding to be able to still offer 7 on some of their computers because no one else does as far as I know. I did not want a Windows 8 so I ordered a Windows 7 laptop from them a few months back and I am very happy with it because I can still use my FTM 16 as I installed a 32/64 program for it. RE: [AZORES-Genealogy] Backing up data works
I considered ordering on line but I could not get on the net and I was not going to wait more than a few days for a replacement and also order something sight unseen over the telephone. I have just too many things I need to do every day. All my programs are up to date so it was no problem there. I am finding windows 8 easier than when I first experienced it last year on my Dads computer. RE: [AZORES-Genealogy] Backing up data works
Always a good reminder to back up your data. I've been doing it today, too.In regards Windows 7, seems to me it would be no problem to buy any new computer and then buy Windows 7 and install it. It might be more expensive that way, since 7 or 8 always comes free with the system, but if 8 stinks that much, maybe it's worth the extra.Doug da Rocha HolmesSacramento, CaliforniaPico Terceira Genealogist916-550-1618www.dholmes.com Original Message On Sat, Jun 22, 2013 at 4:51 PM, Richard Francis Pimentel rfrancispimen...@comcast.net wrote: I have been having problems with my laptop the last couple of weeks. I know there is a big fix for a lot of what people don't like about it coming this fall but I have reached the point now where I have learned to work with it and make it look familiar. [AZORES-Genealogy] Dates Prior to 1752
Dick Eastman has a link to an article on dates prior to 1752 which can cause confusion if you are not aware of the changes made that year in the British Commonwealth (yes we were a part of the British Commonwealth at that time). Link to Dick Eastman: http://blog.eogn.com/eastmans_online_genealogy/2013/06/significant-issue-wit h-ancestrycoms-massachusetts-vital-records.html My question is: were the church records in the Acores effected by any changes like this? I can't see transcribing them wrong because all the records I have viewed have the date written out instead of using just numbers. If you are working with records where the date is written 2/10/46 it could be actually 2 December 1746 Rick Richard Francis Pimentel Spring, TX Formerly of Epping, New Hampshire -- For options, such as changing to List, Digest, Abridged, or No Mail (vacation) mode, log into your Google account and visit this group at http://groups.google.com/group/Azores.
