[AZORES-Genealogy] Marriage record for Ana Bernarda Estalano Nunes Teixeira AND Baptism record for Ana's son, Daniel
As you mention, each of these records are clearly written. On the baptism, Daniel was baptized, and, as is the case in this matter, the father is not mentioned - nor would he be mentioned, unless he comes forward and declares that he is the child's father. There is a separate administrative statement, added - after the fact, to the original baptismal record (usually in the left margin), and a document known as a Legitimacao (Legitimation) is written into a ledger, or section of a ledger, established for that purpose. As for the marriage record, the marriage of Ana Bernarda and Estelano, occured seven years later. It makes no mention of Daniel. If Estalano was the father we will never know - and declares such. Apart from that, Estelano could adopt Daniel if he chooses to, and it can be recorded by the church as a separate record known as a perfiliacao, (adoption), again, normally recorded in a section of its own in the Ledger. That pretty much covers your questions, if I've left anything out or misstated something, I'm sure that someone will point that out. -- For options, such as changing to List, Digest, Abridged, or No Mail (vacation) mode, log into your Google account and visit this group at http://groups.google.com/group/Azores. Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Family Tree Maker
I use both Ancestry and Family Tree Maker. Cheri is correct for the overall, but there are some things to be aware of: * The sync doesn't get everything on ancestry. For example, all of the data associated with documents and headstones does not come down to FTM. If I have text in the translation field on ancestry, it never appears in FTM. * Things change more frequently in the cloud (Ancestry). They are very regularly trying new things. Some things disappear completely. For example, I spent a lot of time tagging faces in pictures only to have the feature, and data, disappear. Better to just describe in notes. * They are constantly breaking the sync feature. This generally corrupts the FTM file. I don't mind as much since my master is always the cloud copy. * As Cheri states, I like owning the data. Should Ancestry disappear or crash, I can continue (with diminished data). Also, I periodically let my subscription expire and turn to free services. It forces me to look elsewhere for a time. I find newspapers and browsing images on familysearch very worthwhile. * This is a big one! If you don't have a subscription with Ancestry, they will not let you view records you have ALREADY attached. This bugs me to no end! They will, however, continue to sell your pictures and records to only subscribers. So, the sync with FTM gives you access to your Ancestry records when not subscribed. * Try the different Ancestry access points (web, iPhone, Android) every now and then. They often screw up security on upgrades and provide free record access for a time. Also, the iPhone (right now) allows individual record purchases for $1.99. Not cheap, butter better than paying for a month for 1 or 2 records. * Some records are FREE no matter you subscription status. No, Ancestry does not make it obvious which records! Anything from the 1940 census, find a grave, billion graves, and many others, are always free. You'll have to develop a list. If you select a premium record, just back up from the prompt to subscribe. Good luck! [AZORES-Genealogy] Sao Sebastiao, PD Parents of Barbara Correia Records from 1661 to 1709
Hi All I am trying to find the marriage of the parents of Barbara Correia. The marriage record below shows on line 12 her father's name as Andre Tsixya (I believe is Teixeira) and her mother is Maria Correia. This record also states that Manuel de Sousa and Barbara Correia are from the parish of Sao Sebastiao. http://culturacores.azores.gov.pt/biblioteca_digital/SMG-PD-SAOSEBASTIAO-C-1 708-1724/SMG-PD-SAOSEBASTIAO-C-1708-1724_item1/P7.html Right side After much searching I found the following baptism in 1671. Fathers name is given as Andre Rodrigues and mother as Maria Correia. I did find the death of Barbara in 1754 and her age was given as 60 years more or less which makes this date off by 13 years. This is the closest I came with the names. http://culturacores.azores.gov.pt/biblioteca_digital/SMG-PD-SAOSEBASTIAO-B-1 663-1685/SMG-PD-SAOSEBASTIAO-B-1663-1685_item1/P77.html Second on left This record is the marriage in 1661 of Andre Rodrigues and Maria Correia. If anyone can figure the date out on this record it would help. Is seems all scrambled up the record before is 9 Jun 1661 and the record after is 11 Jul 1661. http://culturacores.azores.gov.pt/biblioteca_digital/SMG-PD-SAOSEBASTIAO-C-1 650-1677/SMG-PD-SAOSEBASTIAO-C-1650-1677_item1/P63.html Upper right side After much searching of the records I found no other Maria Correia married to and Andre other than Andre Rodrigues (and what I believe is Andre Teixeira in the first record above). I still need to look for any siblings in the baptisms which will be time consuming but perhaps necessary. Three of the four names of Barbara's parents are consistent (Andre and Maria Correia) I am about to write of the marriage record from 1709 as a onetime mistake in writing Teixeira, any thoughts on this? I think you should conclude that Andre Rodrigues has two names, Rodrigues or Teixeira, even if you don't see the Teixeira again. Of course it can be a mistake, but if the records permit, I think you will find it more likely that Teixeira is part of Andre's heritage. I have run into too many cases like this. It looks to me like a line from Santa Maria, where Faleira is more common and perhaps originated. Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Family Tree Maker
Pam, Yes, it comes and goes. For a time, recently, I could view my ancestry sourced records. I thought, wow, they are finally getting a clue!. Then, about two weeks ago, it stopped working again. They are very inconsistent. If I pay to access records, they should remain open to me through their interface. The one that really gets me is that they charge for access to member posted content. I recently found the probate records for my great great grandfather (he died intestate). This has been key since we have no other records indicating his death. The final settlement includes all living children and the children of those that had already passed (if they had heirs). A real boon for researchers! In any case, the records came from FamilySearch and were free. They were NOT indexed and it took me a while of cross referencing to find them (I'm still missing one inventory, but that's another story). So, I post this to Ancestry.com. Anybody who wants to add these records MUST be a paying subscriber. In effect, Ancestry is reselling my work. My results will show up in searches for William Hardin Hickman, but they must pay to see my translation and attach the record. This really burns me! Not only do I not get access to other records, but I must pay to collaborate with other researchers on Ancestry. Makes me mad enough to take my tree private! I really need to find an easy way to post my full tree, with records, for public consumption. Sorry, I get a bit hot about Ancestry.com even though I'm a user. But still they shouldn't restrict you from viewing something that you paid for when you were subscribed. Good luck!
