[AZORES-Genealogy] RE: Translation of a letter

Is there anyone on this list that can translate a handwritten letter? I found 
it in my Grandmother’s things.  The writing is good, but I am not getting a 
good translation from the translation sites.   I have scanned the letter and 
sent it to you personally, if you will let me know your email address.  It is 
written in Portuguese.

[AZORES-Genealogy] Abbreviations

Please keep abbreviations to a minimum. When in doubt, spell it out.

We have list members whose first language is not English. They run your
message through online translations. If you are using the cutesy
abbreviations and typing "idk" for "I don't know" or what have you, they
have no idea what is going on. If they are a potential cousin, they won't
be contacting you, as your messages do not make sense and the online
translators don't know the American slang acronyms. So, please, spell
things out and keep abbreviations to those that have been standard for a
couple of hundred years (Apr is April, for example).

The date is 10 May 1777. Yes the record before is 1799 and the record on the 
reverse side of the page is 1800.  I would guess the record was discovered 
missing and was entered in the next available page.

Hello,

Something is not right.  The left hand page indicates a birth and baptism 
record from 1799...the record of interest on the right hand side, indicates a 
birth and baptism in 1777.  Given that many of the pages are loose in this 
book, I would say that either the page was inserted in the wrong place, or the 
recorder made a typo.  Regardless, I cannot fully make out the mothers name.  
I've been looking for the marriage of Gaspar de Medeiros.

Hello,

Something is not right.  The left hand page indicates a birth and baptism 
record from 1799...the record of interest on the right hand side, indicates a 
birth and baptism in 1777.  Given that many of the pages are loose in this 
book, I would say that either the page was inserted in the wrong place, or the 
recorder made a typo.  Regardless, I cannot fully make out the mothers name.  
I've been looking for the marriage of Gaspar de Medeiros.

[AZORES-Genealogy] What is in a name?

While searching for children of one of my great grandparents I found some 
records that I am questioning. Two records that I've confirmed list the 
parents as Francisco de Andrade born in Santa Barbara, Santa Maria & 
Antonia de Sacramento born in Assuncao, Santa Maria, but they are 18 years 
apart and three others that list the parents as *Antonio Francisco* (one 
has the last name as de Andrade) & Antonia de Sacramento. I have yet to 
find Francisco's baptismo record, that is on my to-do list. If it turns out 
that he was born Antonio Francisco de Andrade would there be a reason for *not 
*using his given name?
